« Breaking down the Dolphins vs. Jets | Main | Jets lead Dolphins 7-0 going to 2nd quarter »

Live blog of Dolphins versus Jets starts here

I'm at the stadium and we're up and running for the live blog that begins around game time tonight. [Update: The Jets have announced at 7 p.m. this evening that Braylon Edwards, arrested for DWI earlier in the week, will be benched for the first quarter tonight verus the Dolphins.]

In other news, let me tell you the sod that was put down to cover the Marlins infield looks better than just having the actual dirt. It is an improvement. But is it perfect? Nope.

There are brown (not important) and uneven (very important) patches, particularly from the sideline to the near hashmark around the two-yard-line near the Jets sideline. There is one area that seems lower than the rest. Having said that, I still think the players will prefer this treatment of the field than having to play in the dirt.

I'm here nearly three hours before kickoff and the conditioning and weight training coaches are putting tight end Mickey Shuler Jr. through conditioning drills. That doesn't suggest he's playing. That suggests the team isin't thrilled with his conditioning and wants to get him ready.

As most of you will watch this game on television, let me tell you what to expect:

NBC's Football Night in America preview will include a Bob Costas interview with both Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez. Shockingly, both defend the Jets image.

Costas: Are you comfortable with the team’s image? The profile is much higher than it would otherwise be because the cameras followed you through training camp. Your coach is a charismatic guy with more than a little bit of bravado about him. So this is a team, which really hasn’t had that much success, but has a pretty high national profile.

Sanchez: That’s part of playing in this market, part of being a New York Jet. We love wearing that logo. It’s really important to us to represent that logo the right way. With the freedoms Rex gives us, be smart about what we do, on and off the field.

Costas: You’re a glamorous single guy playing a glamour position in New York City. (Sanchez laughs). There’s a lot of people who want you, in addition to putting up wins, they want you to be a certain kind of personality. You comfortable with that?

Sanchez: I’ve got to be me. I’ve learned that you don’t get those opportunities outside of this building without playing good football. That’s one of the best things Rex has told me about handling anything outside of this building. Just be yourself. Be the guy we drafted, No. 5 overall. Be our leader. And protect the team with what you say, how you act and what you do on the field.

[BLOG NOTE; Come back in a few and I'll give you the update on inactives and anything else that is happening out here in Orangeville.]

[Final Update: The inactives are John Jerry, Jared Odrick, Mickey Shuler Jr., Ikaika Alama-Francis, Marlon Moore, Patrick Brown, and Tyler Thigpen as the No. 3 QB.]

It was our defense that failed us. 23 points would have been enough if we had a good defense. We could never stop Snachez.

Are you kidding me!!! Not one throw to BMarsh from the ten yard line??? Henne and or Henning are horrible...whomever called that series of plays should be fired!!!

I've never seen us outplay a team so much, but lose by eight. I hope that the ref that made the phantom leading with the helmet tackle by Clemons in the first quarter has someone hit him in the head with a helmet so he realizes what that actually is, cause it wasn't that play.

I think most people agree that Henning has to be fired. He is just not doing the job. The pass plays called tonight can be called by any OC. The thing that killed us is not the plays he didn't call but the ones he did (wildcat). Can we start a petition? Haha. We won't consistently win with that guy in charge of the offense.

We all have to remember something... we went toe to toe w/ a team that is picked by many to go to the Super Bowl. Big mistakes by Allen down the stretch, but I like the fact that the Fins were in it to the end. Just got to play a little smarter, but I think they have a good chance to get into the playoffs.

Give Henne a break. He didn't lose the game... threw for over 300, only 1 INT and that was at the very end, and two TD passes. The secondary needs to not get beat deep as often. But they lost to a very good team.

When Collinsworth said Henning was a DCs dream, he was rigth - for the opposing team's DC.

This is complete BS, i want hennings head on a plater. let this sink in guys...just think of how big fat Rex's grin is right now..oh yeah, and his mouth

Fire Dan Henning. I challenge Herald reporters to write a story on his horrible play calling.

WEAK display by the coaching staff tonight (on all sides)...but I suspect we'll hear the same propaganda. At some point a reporter has to step up and tell them to stop feeding the public BS there are a few us of us who would appreciate it because we don't live in Miami and won't be buying tickets. As for the J-E-T-S....wow, what a weak team (sorry guys...Sanchez is terrible) to be leading the division...which says little for the Fins and Pats. Give it to the Steelers I'd say!

henning is not the blame we live and we learn all i know is were 2-1 and we finally realized the wildcat is dead all 7 lives of it but we got a new beast in brandon marshall henne played well he made like 3 mistakes but were good a loss is a loss but we got this

mando...forward this to miami's FO..
petition to fire henning and hire a chimp that could call better plays.
1. Cowkila

That sure was some beatdown, eh? Ohhhhh that scary orange. Happy Halloween ladies! Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
J-E-T-S, Jets!
J-E-T-S, Jets!
J-E-T-S, Jets!

Where is all the smack the Fin fans were talking all week?
You got smacked, and bitched up.

wow franco...that way G A Y, G A Y, G A Y

All this talk about an aggressive defense. What a joke. Sanchez was given all night to pick us apart. I think it was Michaels who said the Dolphins refused to get beat by the running game of the Jets. Mission accomplished as you let Sanchez slice up this defense like he was some sort of Superstar. Will someone please wake up the DC and remind him we are supposed to attack and not play bend, oh but break a number of times. Same ole defense, just a new day.

This team, and it's coaches seem unable to seize the moment and focus on those two or three situations where we could have put them away. Every time we had them on the ropes we let them off.

A pic by Langford sure would have been nice.

Fire the Special Teams coach as well.

This is disgusting.

It just feels like we will never be an elite team again. With Parcells now gone we dont even have hope for the future

thats the last time you crappy jets get lucky this year. you jets are done, you did nothing impressive tonught

Pin this loss squarely on Dan Henning. Wasted an entire series when we had momentum by throwing 3 straight times. We knew this would be a game we could win with a running game. Henne was great but he is not equipped to win a game by himself. Thought Nolan would dial up a win at the end but he cannot do it every week.

Yeah...special teams is all around horrible. They must think special teams really means talent off of the short bus

Henning had a second down on the two yard line and called two passes. If you can't run 2 yards on 2 plays you shouldn't be playing. We should have had 3 picks we dropped. They tried to limit Sanchez from losing the game. Henne is a much better QB than Sanchez.

The wildcat after we are moving the ball and have all the momentum is ridiculous. We did everything we could to lose this game. We are a better team but the only thing that matters is the final score. If our D-lineman catches the ball that was softly placed into his hands we win this game. We have the ball down by 1 with a few minutes left in great field position. When he dropped it I said oh no here comes the big play and now we are going to lose.

Take away 3 big plays and we win this game by 2 touchdowns. We moved up and down the field and then called stupid plays at the wrong times.

I have to agree with everyone here. Henning killed us with terrible situational offensive calls. The wildcat is just not a good play call when the QB is humming down the field.

Also, in addition to the Loss, Rex Ryan's icing of Jason Taylor with Gatorade at the end of the game showed how classless the Jets organization is. You just don't do that, not only is it the 3rd game of the season, but you are giving a Gatorade shower to a player who has been dear to Miami Fans for his whole career. Showed so much disrespect. Don't worry the Jets will blow it one way or the other.

As for the Dolphins, some better play calls, a few what would have been game changing defensive plays, this game was all ours and this team showed alot of heart hanging in there- if it weren't for their offensive coach we would be celebrating a Win over the stinkn' Jets.

remember henning didnt come up wit the wildcat it was david lee our qb coach henning is a good coach but he does not have complete cotrol

I don't care who's idea the Wildcat is, I just know it's a bad one. It doesn't surprise anyone anymore. Give it up already. Goodnight.

Boy we better be able to run v. NE next week.

the wildcat was cool when we had chad p with his weak arm and gimp as our number 1 target now we got henne wit a cannon and brandon the beast let them make plays bess fasano and hartline can contribute very well
