MINNEAPOLIS -- A victory today?

More than making the Dolphins 2-0 and keeping them in first place in the AFC East no matter what happens elsewhere in the NFL, it would catapult this team we know so much and yet so little about into a state of legitimacy.

Miami beats the team that went to the NFC title game a year ago and you have to believe that is a pretty good team.

Some keys to the game:

Inactives: Chad Pennington is the No. 3 QB. Why is that interesting? He was the No. 2 QB last week. All this means is the Dolphins are allowing themselves the option of using Tyler Thigpen as a spread option QB today. The other Miami inactives are Roberto Wallace, Nolan Carroll, Channing Crowder, Jared Odrick, Ikaika Alama-Francis, Lydon Murtha and Jermey Parnell.

Jake Long versus Jared Allen: I do not expect a shutout by Long. It's hard to expect that when the guy opposing him is a classic 4-3 DE of the highest order. Allen is stud. He's strong, he's quick, he's experienced and he's always seemingly motivated, meaning he doesn't take plays off. Long is similarly a stud. Today will measure exactly how healthy Long is following that knee injury in the preseason finale.

Brandon Marshall's day: I am sitting here two hours before the game and not many playes are on the field yet. Marshall is on the field. He's warming up his hips. He's practicing catching all sorts of passes -- over his head, too low, one-handed, Scene interesting perhaps only to me: Marshall is not catching those passes from Chad Henne. He's catching them from a trainer type. Henne is on the field about 20 yards away and he's throwing passes and working with Davone Bess. Fact is Henne has spoken more with former Dolphins WR Greg Camarillo on the field the past 30 minutes than he has with Marshall. Interesting.

[Update: Marshall eventually finished his regimen and came over to where Henne and Bess were working out routes and started working with them, too.]

Henne versus Brett Favre: It cannot be a blowout here, folks. We cannot have Favre throwing three TDs and 1 INT and have Henne deliver a stat line like he did last week -- zero TDs, zero INTs -- and expect the Dolphins to win. If you have not read it yet, I wrote my Sunday column on Henne and the message the Dolphins give him over, and over and over. It can be something of a confusing message, if you ask me because the Dolphins want Henne to do two things that aren't necessarily opposites -- throw TDs and not throw INTS. To throw TDs, you see, you almost always have to live with some interceptions. The Dolphins have drilled Hennes so much on not throwing INTs, it makes me wonder if he can be a big TD passer anytime in the future.

Alrightie, that's quite a bit to digest before the live blog begins at kickoff. Come back here for all the pregame updates. And let's meet in the comments section for the live blog.

Hey, I am a Packer fan...Packers will win the Superbowl this year...but today I root for the Dolphins.....

Well said, Craig.

I never deny a person their opinion, but damn Bill seems to NEVER have a single good thing to say about this team (supposedly HIS team)... I have often wondered if he was a fan or just someone who needed someone to talk to.

I mean no disrespect Bill, Really I don't. Just remember we are all concerned about our teams weaknesses, we just choose to praise their strengths. If for any other reason then to help our fellow fans stay up.

Please don't take this wrong, I don't mean it to be.

Bill's predictions (or mine, or yours) have no affect on the outcome of the game. Let's lighten up, guys! Plus, if (when?) the Phins win, we can give 'im hell!

the good days for favre are over .it got to be, he can't keep winning .

retirement plans ,any one .

i predicted a win last week, its only the 2nd week. so that makes no sense either craig

So JimB, why come on to a Dolphins blog. Have they not invented that technology yet for your beloved team?

I don't know what makes you guys think the Vikings are that great. The Saints showed the blueprint last week on how on how to beat the Vikings. Their offence under Favre looked very ordinary and there is no question that their secondary today will be vulnerable. The key for victory is to contain AP. I don't think Favre can beat us on his own any more.

Agree with you there Craig contain AP, and make Farve throw. I also don't put much stock in what teams have done last year or the year before. Piere Thomas had 71 yards rushing on them last week and Bush added 14 more so we will continue to attempt to run the ball since it is our biggest strength; thing is we want a balanced attack so it comes down to when we call the runs, passes, wildcat etc.

We all need to understand that this game will be incredibly hard. The Dolphins are facing one of the greatest QB's in history,a RB who's in the top 2 and this Vikings team went to the NFC Championship game last season but to say the Dolphins dont have ANY chance to win is just ludicrous.

Miami have a chance to win but the Vikings are favourites.

GO FINS!!!

Hit Favre hard and often!

Bill, I can't archive your comments from last week but I'm pretty sure you were down on the team before AND after the game. There's got to be more fun to life than being down on this team every week. I know it's a while sonce we've really done anything but I truly believe this team is heading in the right direction. WE have some good young players on defence and I really like Nolan. Henne has potential. At some point, probably under a different co-ordinator we need to take the handcuffs off and let this guy show his natural ability.

exactly phinswin, thank you. im hoping for a fins win today just as much or more than everyone else. its a prediction, been wrong before and ill be wrong again. lets hope its today fellas

Mando,

Good Gonzo reporting. Blogging is a close to Gonzo as we have ever gotten. Felt like I was there. Keep up the good work.

Bill,

At least save the negativity for weekdays.

It's Showtime Dawg cheer for the Dolphins today.

and i do think they have a chance, like i said to have a shot they have to get turnovers. vikes defense only gave up 14 to the saints in new orleans

when the dolphins run they should run behind long and incognito, and straight at Allen so that when Henne does a play action Allen may hesitate just for 1 moment giving henne time to throw

Bill sounds like Esiason.

Major killjoys.

Speaking of kill, KILL FARVE!!!!

craig i predicted a 19-17 win last week. i was wrong and said i didnt think we would have a pass rush. i was right on about the fins taking the lead and then sitting on it and making it come down to last few mins . that should refresh. today for the record i said i think ap has to big of a game and vikes win 27-17. what was your score on game?

ok odinseye fair enough, gameday lets gooooooooooooo. i have ton of passion for this team so ill warn u late in games if they make mistakes i get pissed and have to vent to fellow fans on here. like others do

I don't believe AP will be successful running against us. We will have lots of run blitzes. Since their two db's are out and their offense is finding itself I honestly believe we have a chance.

Bill you said....and I quote "The Vikes will run AP all over us today. No chance unless we get turnovers". Does that sound like someone who is confident in their team? What makes you think AP will beat us today? How did he do against the Saints last week? What about Buffalo's three-pronged running attack? How did they do? I think you need to give this defence some credit. I'm not saying Minnesota is Buffalo but the defence came up big last week and the blueprint on how to beat the Vikings has been shown. I just don't get why you don't think we're capable of playing big again today. What am I missing?

Internet is slow here, folks. So please bear with me on the posting of my comments.

Is Starks starting at DE?

Who said that?

dan marino just said ; ( no chance fins will win ) in cbs .

will see mr Bacala.

Let's get it on!!!

comparing bills to ap is a joke. and ap was running great, vikes just quit giving ball to him. didnt say we arent, said we need turnovers which would mean we are playing big. whats your score prediction

its fine mando. get r done.

Ok I'll check in at halftime, but for now I am going upstairs, get my drink on and sit back and wait for kick off; think I'll watch steelers and titans during commercials.

If Dan doesn't like our chances it makes me more confident we'll win today. When was the last time Dan was right? There's a reason he has a nice cushy job with CBS and isn't in a front office somewhere.

craig score?

So Starks is at end and Soliai at NT? Omar 1, Armando 0.

I'm off to defend my own turf 1 lone Phin fan in a sea of Minnesota Purple. At least it's my bar so if things are going south I can 86 the whole lot! Not to worry, they will suffer, and I will take their cash. Go Phins!!!

Here comes the MIAMI POUND MACHINE!!

Oh one final thing; don't listen to the analysts just ask Bo; Bo knows football

and im very scared of what camarillo could do to us today

Marino doesn't want to seem like a Homer so his opinion is not important to us

Where r those tv links? Game was supposed to be on locally now idk wtf???

odinseye,

Soliai starts at NT and Starks will be at DE

Interesting...

no score from craig, figures

Peterson will get his yards. We just got to keep him under a 100.

Hey foolio, you can send the link to me via email, rctabor@comcast.net Thank you

Phins 27
Vikes 24

U Hurd it Hurr Fust!

Hey foolio, you can send the link to me via email too, ljraymond@gmail.com Thank you

Win or Lose, we need a good showing. its an NFC game. not the end of the world if they lose.. I have a feeling, todays gonna be a great day!!

MR742, GO TO MY POST AT 11;36 for the link to see the game

Bill,

I will give you that....about Camarillo. He worries me a bit too. But I don't see him as a game changer. I do see him as a guy who can bail Favre out and extend drives. I expect him to look for him lots today. He might even get to 100 yards.

I'm not much on predicting scores Bill because I don't know what the game plan is for today. As I said we need to contain AP. I'm confident if we do that and we challenge the Minnesota secondary we will win. So you want a score?.....how about 24-20 Miami.

Enjoy the game boys....

Mando, question. Alama-Francis playing today?

Dolphins are well represented here today. Lots of Dolphins fans in the house.

Henne said Dan Marino has been ``guiding me on throwing catchable balls to the running backs and knowing who your receiver is to throw different balls. Dan is always saying, `When in doubt, `Let it fly!'

Solia starting at NT the week we face AP.

There are a lot of variables, but our run D aint the same with Solia at Nose.

Big Money, Big Money, NO Whammy's!!!!

nope

is hartline even on the team anymore, man i miss camarillo

sent the link to you guys...say hello when you get there :)

CraigM, odinseye,

Guys like Bill (and that other Packers idiot) exist. They are contrarians. I doubt even Bill wants to be that way, but that's how his mind works.

As long as there are more on here like us, emotionally pushing the team along, I think we'll get our point across.

And yes, it DOES help a team win if they know their fans are diehard soldiers for them. Ask Pittsburgh, even the Packers idiot, and they'll all tell you, fan passion is better to play for!

So Randy Starks slated to start at RE. As you know he told me during the week that he hasn't worked anywhere but NT since training camp.

So much for telling the truth.

Also, Bill has a point to be worried since Minn has gone 14-2 at home.

it doesn't work foolio74,WTF

come on miami!!! man im excited. this game could go a long way to tell us who we are. need a solid offensive performance. GO PHINS!!!

Here comes the MIAMI POUND MACHINE!!

anyone got a good link?

Ike Francis Again??
