Taylor: Would still be in Miami if Parcells had left earlier

Jason Taylor was just on a teleconference call with the South Florida media and the question that I was eager to get an answer to was his thoughts on the timing of the Bill Parcells decision to step back from the absolute power spot in Miami.

Parcells considered stepping back from his job as executive vice president of football operations prior to the start of training camp. He ultimately decided to do it just prior to the regular-season.

But what if Parcells had done it six months ago ... when the decision on Taylor was made by the Dolphins, that decision not to offer the outside linebacker a contract.

Would Taylor still be with Miami if Parcells had left earlier?

"I think that horse is already dead," Taylor said moments ago. "If you had to hold my hand over the fire and forced me to give you an answer I would have to say yes."

I asked Taylor what he thought of that timing?

"Pretty ironic," he said.

Taylor will get a reception at sold out Sun Life Stadium. He played for the Dolphins for a dozen season and he now plays for a bitter division rival. Chances of the reaction to him approaching indifference are not good.

But which one will it be? Cheers? Or Jeers?

"I have no idea to be honest," Taylor said. " I would expect because I play for the Jets, they won't be very happy. It's their home opener and they're Dolphins fans so I would expect ... oh, hell, maybe I hope it's just mixed. Whatever. Obviously everyone wants to be cheered but I understand I'm the road team and the bitter rival so I wouldn't be surprised to hear boos."

Taylor is nursing an elbow injury. It doesn't sound like that will keep him out of the game.

"I got nicked last week, but I'll be fine," he said. "You guys been around long enough to know whatever hurts I won't tell you about and it'll always feel better when it stops hurting."

Speaking of how fans react to the opposition, I asked Rex Ryan today if he has a message for the fans which he greeted with the one-finger salute at an MMA event during the offseason.

"Oh, no, absolutely not," he said carefully.

That's not exactly the gasbag answer I wanted from the bigger-than-life coach. So I asked him if, following his Hard Knocks declaration that, "We know we're better than you," in facing everyone, he believes the Jets are better than the Dolphins.

"I believe we're better than any team we play, I've never gone into any game not thinking we're going to win or the team I coach wouldn't win," Ryan said. "I always believe we're going to win. Now are we go undefeated or 15-1, no that's not going to happen. But my attitude is that we are going to be better, that we are going to win, every game, 100 percent of the game throughout my life, I expect we're going to win."

As for Miami coach Tony Sparano, he had a one-liner or two in his press conference today. He was asked what Miami's strategy is considering Darrelle Revis is out for the game -- something the Jets are confirming.

"I don't think Revis is out," Sparano said. "I'll believe it when I see. Brett Favre retired. You guys told me that was official. When I get out there, then we'll see. Right now we're preparing as if he's going to play. If he does not play, then we'll make our plans accordingly."

OH,MY GOD,OH MY GO ...JT TRYING TO TURN THE PEOPLE ON BP THE TUNA ,NO SHAME,NO SHAME .

JT is the scottie pippen of the dolphins minus the rings! the only teams he beast-up in were division games! always showed up for indy pats bills and wets! the rest of the time he was decent at best! saban did get the defensive player of the year award for JT but other than that what? average at best! i would have asked JT do you really think you can beat long after watching him maul jared allen? i would also want to know how you look yourself in the mirror after all the stuff you use to say about the wets and now you play for them? and for kick ask low key mr humble LT how it feels to play for loud mouth rex after crying bout pats being unprofessional? all these pros full of shizt!!!!!!!!

Trade Channing Crowder now before it's to late. We MIGHT be able to get a 7th rounder for him if nobody sees him embarrass himself and the Dolphins anymore this season.

Here's the facts: Dobbins is a better run stuffer and Carpenters better all around. Especially in coverage.

If you guys remember correctly Gerbil Wilson wasn't the only guy getting toatsed in coverage last year. Crowder can't cover a wet spot on a white sheet.

As far as run support? Crowder is MISTER day late and a dollar short, not Dobbins.

And to boot, we got a ROOKIE on the practice squad that plays better.

If all that ain't enough for you people, add in all Chowderz injuries and missed games!

That my friends is: "NUFF SAID"!

sometimes being humble goes a long way... I really hope the defense sees the comments sexy rexy made and tear into them like never before. Just reinforces my beliefs the Jets are a bunch of frauds.

Jerry, worried about a hobbling Revis? Yeah, I know the guy is good, but one-legged? I take Marshall in that match-up.

Why will we win? Because we are tougher than the Jets. We proved that last year. For once, I think the Jets were made to play a Dan Henning offense. They are an aggressive defense, so how do you counter that? Hit them in their teeth where it hurts. That's what happened last year. They couldn't stop us.

Difference between last year's Jets and this year's is L.T., Cromartie and J.T. We handled L.T. when he was a Charger (frankly, I'm thankful we're not facing Thomas Jones, he was a real beast). Cromartie is a worry to me. J.T.'s gonna get his feelings hurt.

Difference between last year's Dolphins and this year's...MIKE NOLAN! Nuff said, point taken, a loss is almost inconceivable.

We have to pummel the Jets 2ce! Full strength, no excuses! If we only won 2 games this year it should be the jets!!!!

Armando you are in idiot
feed the wolf cant wait for sun
go fins stinking stinking jt jets

Traitor comes across as a huge whinny baby. Parcells did well to treat himn like a punk. We have a young team, and Taylor is not the type of leader you want around a young team. He was once, but not now. Hard knocks made him look like a buffoon, consantly late, getting ripped on by rookies who got cut. Part of this game is constanly trying to get better, we recognizwd this wasn't going to happen with htis pre-madonna here. Let him rot in the swamp!
That sideshow striptease hooker on SportsNation just picked the jets to beat the Phins. I'm sure she was paid large by her big brother company(espn) to say that.

as for Jason he deserves all the boos he hears and he'll deserve all the cheers still too, though i doubt there will be many... I'd be jeering

Taylor will always be a favorite but in the green I can't do anything but passionately hope he fails. I would prefer that he retire a Dolphin after this year. Go Fins.

Also, Jerry, weren't you on here last week saying we'd lose to the Vikes? Keep it up man, if you pick us to lose every game you gotta be right sometime. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

DC, good post, but Baltimore handled Cromartie all night, so can we!!!!! KILL THE JETS!!!

Dobbins and Carpenter do look nice and we have AJ Edds and Micah Johnson next year... I'd have to agree and unload Crowder for a 3rd

Odin if Ginn got a 5th Crowder def worth atleast 4th

So go be a Jet Taylor... and if you want sympathy, it's in the dictionary between shinola and syphilis.

WOW! SWEET! AWESOME! I can't even make sentences, I'm speechless!!!!

AT LAST,WE HAVE A TEAM......A TEAM .......A TEAM .TUNA'A DOING.

NOT ONE SELFISH PLAYER SUCKING ALL THE LIGHTS OUR ,GOD RIDDEN .

Chowder is worth a late 5th rounder.

redsky, you're right, they did. But he has history with Brandon (I kinda hope Revis covers him instead of Cromartie). Brandon got him a couple of times, but there was one game where he totally shut Brandon down (hopefully Brandon will avenge himself from that time).

But, here we are talking about passing when we all know Dan Henning is the OC, and that could only mean two things: Ronnie handoff, Ricky handoff. Sigh.

plunkett was the qb

Jeff, hell yes!!! If I had made 40 million in my career and could play elsewhere for a bit less, I wouldn't go to a team that I've hated my entire career and who's fans didnt even want me their.. He's a sellout who did it cuz his primadonna feelings were hurt and I hope he is boo'd out-of-town!! And fans, do it soon cuz Jake, Ronnie

ESPN.com
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Darrelle Revis was not on the practice field for the New York Jets, and later coach Rex Ryan said he will not play Sunday against the Dolphins.

My wife was completely infatuated with Taylor

ODIN, you trippin bigg time about
dobbins!!! Dobbins missed of all ppl ol ass brett farve one on one for a sack! not to mention every play espn showed of dobbins when peterson had the ball he not only was getting blowed up by the guards but he also missed AP for a tfl, and on the goal line stop he clearly over ran the play that came right up his hole! thank god for dansby! and carpenter has been decent in coverage but him and dobbins arent filling up the stat sheet! CANT WAIT TO GET CHANNING BACK IN THE MIDDLE and let these backups be what they are BACKUPS!!

but even she hates him now.. Mando, time to move on bud!!

LT is a huge downgrade from Thomas Jones their offense last year was run and LT isn't worrying anyone.

Traitor said he though he would still be a dolphin had Parcell stepped down sooner than he did makes me laugh. It was a thing just like last year where he was asked to wait until after the draft (to see if they could make trade like they did) he didn't want to chance it he decided to leave; case closed.

Parcell had nothing to do with it his production and Joey Porter's production had everything to do with it; late in games (and in Porter's case early in games) they were getting run all over, and looked old and tired, add in the fact they were holding Cam Wake back, then we get Misi now everyone is like Jason who, Joey who.

I don't know if anyone has said this already but, in the case of JT staying had Parcells stepped down earlier, thank God Parcells waited!

I second that opinion NY

BeerPhin,

I agree with you that he'll be worth AT LEAST as much as Ginn.

I was just overstating and exagerating as usual-LOL!

Compared to what we got, I don't like ANYTHING about Crowder. Well, actually I think it's kinda of kool that he looks like that thing from the Predator movie ;)

NYScott, you have a way to drive your point in such nice way .

JT HAS NO SHAME,BP SIGNED HIM LAST YEAR THEN HE LET HIM GO THIS YEAR ...BIG DEAL,HE'S NOT MARINO .

Has anyone noticed that we are tied with the wets in team rushing yards?

Another factor in how bad dobbins was sunday is the fact that j allen had 11 tackles in the game! if dobbins is where he's supposed to be and such a sure talckler when he is in position, there is no way allen tackle total should be this high unless the wr he is covering is straight dogging him the whole game and that clearly hasnt been the case

I wish he wasn't playing. this is going to be a weird moment seeing him playing against us. I am in MA so he would't hear me cheer or not. But I have a tough time Booing him, because i still do not think his heart wears Jet green. I don't know, it just sucks.

whatever, taylor is a jet now. went to a bitter rival - the ultimate no-no. doesn't matter how long he played in miami. he left twice, thinks he's entitled and got a dose of humility. parcells isn't innocent in the whole thing either. I;m glad he's gone too.

And I'm not bashing JT in any way by saying that. The simple fact of the matter is that JT was only going to play one or two more years at the most. He's aging and we're not in the position to make a superbowl run. This is the best time to get guys like Misi and Wake some valuable game experience. At this point in his career JT would have been a progress stopper.

So the Jets are the best team for him to play on. They've stated over and over that they're going to the superbowl so now JT will get that ring he was never able to get in Miami. :)

Thank you Jason for all you did for the Dolphins. I will never forget the times you buried Brady in the turf nor will I forget the dedication you showed as a Miami Dolphin and as a member of the Miami and southern FLA community.

BUT, you are a Jet now and even though I won't be able to boo you in person I will be booing you very loudly from home. I hope the Dolphins kick the crap out of your classless windbag lead team and I hope Jake Long reintroduces you to the Sun Life stadium turf early and often.

Dolphin 4 life,

Ive seen every game Dobbins has played in multiple times. I would almost agree with your assessment except for the fact that Dobbins job is to free up the mike-Dansby. Crowder wouldn't be the Mike anymore and he's even worse at the other spot.

Well there's one other reason I will disagree with you. I've watched every game that Crowder has played for the Dolphins as well, multiple times. Over and Over again, slo mo included.

No comparison, Dobbins ain't Superman, but he doesn't have to be, to be better than Crowder!

I will always love Jason Taylor. He played his ass off for us and got dissed. Not his fault.

GET OFF OF HIS NUTSACK PLEASE WHO GIVES A CRAP ABOUT THIS LOSER JET!!!!! IF you write one more thing about him im gonna scream he is gone plain and simple GONE!!!!!!! I HOPE HE SUCKS AND RONNIE AND RICKY TRUCK HIS SORRY a##!

Dear JT,

I've been a season tix holder for years, and regardless of whether we should blame Parcell for you not being here doesn't take away the fact that you opted to sleep with the enemy. It was classless. After criticizing the opponent, you just don't sign with them just to prove a point or to win a championship. Kudos to Marino for never doing that.

In fact, let me remind you of the facts: The Fins asked you to wait - that they would address your situation after the draft - you opted to go running to the Jets.

Whether we liked it or not, the fact that the Big Tuna didn't rush into offering you a contract and you deciding to sign with the enemy was the best thing that could have happened to our Fins. The rookies or younger guys would have never had the opportunity to develop the way they've developed. Perhaps, the Trifecta would have never drafted Koa Misi. As it turns out, it was the best decision for us.

BTW, did I mention we're 2-0... Go Fins!

PS I would never respect you for once complaining that the team needed a leader when you were a 10-year veteran. Dude, it's like me complaining that my house lacks a man of the house.

WHY DO PEOPLE HERE KEEP SAYING HE DIDN'T GET AN OFFJASON TRAITOR GOT AN OFFER AND DECLINED!!!!

TONIGHT ON NFL CHANNEL........DOLPHINS VS MIN AT 9,15 PM OR 2;15 AM.........NO JT CRAP

Just wanted to let you guys know that there are many members of the NY media bashing Ryan for saying they would bench Edwards for the game and now backing off of that statement.

On mike and the Mad Dog (a popular NYC radio show) the host was saying that it just shows the lack of maturity from the coach on down. He played a part of Ryans conference where Rex said that all of the facts weren't in yet and they weren't sure if everything that was said was true. He scoffed at that and asked if the Jets were now calling the arresting police officer a liar when he said that Braylon had a blood alcohol level of 1.6!

Not every New Yorker is a pompous jerk. Most of us actually have class and use our brains. Unfortunately it's the idiots who get all the press. And you guys from FLA should know that scenario if you've ever watched an episode of cops!

Mando, what's up with the posts? I mention that the Fins are wearing orange jerseys and want the fans to do the same and you put it in a post. I tease you about your man-crush with JT and you put it in a post! Stop it! You're scaring me!
Parcells treated JT just like he did Ricky. Handed him a post-it note with a number written on it. That was the contract offer. Ricky liked his and agreed to stay with the Fins. Jason Taylor wondered why they weren't negotiating with his agent and wanted to negotiate the price, so he declined, thinking it was a joke. Bill wadded the note up and threw it away. Props to Parcells for being an environmentalist and not wasting paper on long drawn-out contracts.
These are the things you write about when the team is about to play one of the most important games we've had in the last ten years? We're sitting at the top of our division at 2-0 about to play the over-hyped self-described super bowl wannabe with all their pomp and bravado and noise, and this is what you write about? Your radio program may be affecting your brain! You gotta get one of Home's metal hats cause them radio waves have you confused!r

Now you're reaching! You're pretending you know what everyones assignment was on every play. STOP IT, your embarrassing yourself.

The fact is, every time a defense plays against Chris Johnson and or Adrian Peterson, the defensive backs tackle totals go way up.

Nice try, now give it a rest. Crowder SUCKS!!!!

JT what are you doing it that Green Slime jersey when you could have been playing for the hometown Dolphins, were you out in the sun too long during offseason??!! Now you're going to get booed with the rest of the Jests!!! Go Miami give the JEsts another SMACKDOWN like you did the hapless bills and vikes! Give alittle extra smackdown to Sancheese and JT so they will wish they were playing for a Winner and not the New Yawk losing Jests.

Lastly to Jason Taylor. The whole thing about the fans booing you comes down to this, and it's exactly like you said when you left, IT'S JUST BUSINESS. So no offense.

Is it possible one day to have an article in the Miami Herald without talking about Shula, Marino, Saban, JT, Thomas, or any other guy that was part of the organization in the past!!!...... It's 2010 talk about the guys who wear the uniform today!! Players like Misi, Odrick, Wake, Henne, Polite (19-19 on first down attempts) PLEASE ENOUGH WITH LIVING IN THE PAST!!!!!!!

Odin, I also have to disagree on your assessment of Crowder. he is clearly an upgrade over Dobbins. Crowder would have made the plays Dobbins missed. Clearly the Dolphins coaching staff is not completely sold on Dobbins either because Carpenter is getting some serious action.

They just announced on NFL live that Revis WON'T be traveling to Miami with the team.

I don't think the Jets can announce that and then have him play because of league rules. Anyone have an answer on the rules side of this?

Really dolphins4life, odinseye is right. Dobbins is doing a pretty good job IMO. I think regardless who plays, both him and Crowder will see time this season, so we all better hope they got their acts together.

NYScott, that's Rex being Rex. Low-class.

Prediction

Bess will light up the Jets

Prediction

Armando tweets during game will be heavy on the JT and low on the Schemes.

JT is a Jimmy Johnson clone, a phony in the mold of Nick Saban and NJ douchefinfan, who cares what he says.

Mark in Toronto, agree with u on this one. Crowder is a better player then Dobbins, tried to do to much by himself last year and i believe will thrive with Dansby next to him. We are in the minority here but i want to see Crowder back in there

After Week 1, all I heard was how Buffalo played us close and what a terrible team they were gonna be this year. Week 2 and it was about how the Vikes are in dissarray and Favre doesn't have enough WRs. Now, we're close to our third game and we're already hearing excuses from the Jets. Will Edwards and Revis play or won't they? When is the sports media gonna latch onto the fact that these Dolphins may be good? Once we beat the Jets and then the Pats, we get a Bye week before we see the Cheeseheads in Green Bay. Maybe then, we'll get some respect! Go Fins!y

Incognito will greet jt with a chop block.

NyScott, Revis isnt playing and will be lucky if he comes back by Minn game.
