Taylor: Would still be in Miami if Parcells had left earlier

Jason Taylor was just on a teleconference call with the South Florida media and the question that I was eager to get an answer to was his thoughts on the timing of the Bill Parcells decision to step back from the absolute power spot in Miami.

Parcells considered stepping back from his job as executive vice president of football operations prior to the start of training camp. He ultimately decided to do it just prior to the regular-season.

But what if Parcells had done it six months ago ... when the decision on Taylor was made by the Dolphins, that decision not to offer the outside linebacker a contract.

Would Taylor still be with Miami if Parcells had left earlier?

"I think that horse is already dead," Taylor said moments ago. "If you had to hold my hand over the fire and forced me to give you an answer I would have to say yes."

I asked Taylor what he thought of that timing?

"Pretty ironic," he said.

Taylor will get a reception at sold out Sun Life Stadium. He played for the Dolphins for a dozen season and he now plays for a bitter division rival. Chances of the reaction to him approaching indifference are not good.

But which one will it be? Cheers? Or Jeers?

"I have no idea to be honest," Taylor said. " I would expect because I play for the Jets, they won't be very happy. It's their home opener and they're Dolphins fans so I would expect ... oh, hell, maybe I hope it's just mixed. Whatever. Obviously everyone wants to be cheered but I understand I'm the road team and the bitter rival so I wouldn't be surprised to hear boos."

Taylor is nursing an elbow injury. It doesn't sound like that will keep him out of the game.

"I got nicked last week, but I'll be fine," he said. "You guys been around long enough to know whatever hurts I won't tell you about and it'll always feel better when it stops hurting."

Speaking of how fans react to the opposition, I asked Rex Ryan today if he has a message for the fans which he greeted with the one-finger salute at an MMA event during the offseason.

"Oh, no, absolutely not," he said carefully.

That's not exactly the gasbag answer I wanted from the bigger-than-life coach. So I asked him if, following his Hard Knocks declaration that, "We know we're better than you," in facing everyone, he believes the Jets are better than the Dolphins.

"I believe we're better than any team we play, I've never gone into any game not thinking we're going to win or the team I coach wouldn't win," Ryan said. "I always believe we're going to win. Now are we go undefeated or 15-1, no that's not going to happen. But my attitude is that we are going to be better, that we are going to win, every game, 100 percent of the game throughout my life, I expect we're going to win."

As for Miami coach Tony Sparano, he had a one-liner or two in his press conference today. He was asked what Miami's strategy is considering Darrelle Revis is out for the game -- something the Jets are confirming.

"I don't think Revis is out," Sparano said. "I'll believe it when I see. Brett Favre retired. You guys told me that was official. When I get out there, then we'll see. Right now we're preparing as if he's going to play. If he does not play, then we'll make our plans accordingly."

You are quite the foody.....Me I just eat to live.

I am sure the blog would much rather here about ur food exploits

I would rather talk about how ineffective JT will be against Jake Long.

Jared Allen is twice the player JT is. So I expect him to have half the game Jared Allen had. And contrary to what some may write...his game was less than OUTSTANDING.

long got the best of Jarred allen for sure .he will eat jason alive for dinner .

Thats what i'm talking bout....I also look for wake to dominate...2 sacks and a QB strip before the half. Thats my prediction.

AT last, the tough team that tuna wants is here to stay ,after only 2 years and a few month every team hates to face us .

i love how after teling sperano rex declared revis out on sunday. sperano said ill believe it when i see it! untill then were preparing as if hes starting. ( thats great thinking) revis maybe out but we will expect him anyways.

jets crash land!!
BlackBox records failure in the QB
position and lack of an island to defend a victorious landing...

odin, Apache/Cherokee and part Cuban! Now shut up! The Yankees are playing!

I am just trying it out finatic

MJZ, Plunkett is the right guy! PERIOD. ...,

missed a lot while eating and flirting elsewhere, since Hot Ashley was busy with cuban menace, that DEVIL!!!!

Should JT be cheered? Hell no. But he has done alot for this orginazation and doesnt deserve to be booed. If anything dont single him out and boo the entire jets. Miami wins by the same score last week. 14-10

guys dont laugh but Where and How did Hot Ashley started? is she fiction or non? help me out.... and i keep reading about meatball subs. lol.

odin, Apache/Cherokee and part Cuban! Now shut up! The Yankees are playing!

WOW! You are a grumpy old b a s t a r d. You shut up!

PS: The Yankees suck worse the wex and the wets-Bwhaa ha ha ha!!!!

Inside College Football is doing an interview with Denard Robinson right now.

They're saying he's the early favorite for the Heisman.

Whud I tell Ya'll!!!!

Whud I say!!!!

Michigan! Michigan! Michigan! Michigan!

The Cuban Menace describes Hot Ashley in detail. Her lineage, what type of job, etc etc. He swears she's real.

Others say she has a valve stem and only gets blown up on the weekend.

Is she fiction or non? Your guess is as good as mine.

I know if she e-mails me those pics in the specific poses I've asked for, I'll be a believer!

Why is this even relevant to the game Sunday night? Jason Taylor is old news in Miami just like Joey Porter. If I'm not mistaken, Koa Misi has a sack, and a fumble recovered for a touchdown in his first two games as a rookie. Not too shabby. Cameron Wake also has two sacks; why can't we talk about the team we have in place. Let the Jets talk about Jason Taylor. If Miami knows anything about him, we'll run off tackle underneath him all night long. I used to hate watching him defend against the run.

Edds is the future at that spot

I know all I need to know about football.
Talk about something we don't know like futbol.

odin, Yankees still best team in baseball history, i'm busy. Will only respond to Hot Ashley! Bye!

Despite running the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds at Penn State Pro Day, Wake was an undrafted free agent......................

During the past two seasons for the BC Lions, Wake had 39 sacks.

4.55 at 260lbs.-DAMN!

Avg. 20 sacks a season-DAMN!

Sanchez = The DAMNED!!!!

This Is Our House!!!!

Redsky if you'll be my Lone Ranger I'll be your Tonto-Hot Ashley.

I guessed Plunkett back on Page 1

Armando, you better start sharpening your pencils for your next great article about Jason Taylor, ex-Dolphin. Cause I'm sure inquiring minds are gonna want to know what it was like getting booed in a place where you played for 12 years and getting your butt whooped by Jake Long all day! Yep! Better get those pencils ready for your next man-crush blog about JT!

The Yankees ARE history just like you.

Now regale us with Spanish American War Stories

Hey thanks for Taylor loser fins fans. We will enjoy beating you on Sunday nite in your home stadium. Taylor finally got some class and went to a great organization instead of that pansy outfit in Miami Gardens. I will be there as well as many Jet fans since you pussycats cannot sell out. Thanks again Dullfans!

Waterboy, if Thigpen is in the game 1 of 2 bad things happened...Henne was mauled, or Henne stunk it up. Either way, we'd be screwed that game, and from then on. I thin k Henne has received mixed messages from our coaching staff.."we got you Marshall, but be care and don't lose the game, son."

Jets run the ball at least as good as we do, and they turned Sanchez loose. yeah, the Pats aren't great on D (who would of thought we'd say that now?) but the jets are missing their best defender and Jenkins, and Cromartie holds. What better time than NOW to see what we actually have with this new offense? Throw it early and often, it will open up the run game, and with Jenkins out, the Jests will fold like the bullies they think they are.

I predict the mere presence of Jason Traitor will work the sold out crowd into a hatred fueled frenzy!

Sanchez will have to burn timeouts as the crowd taunts the traitor while he's on the sideline.

Katina you better pack the kids some sack lunches cause I got a feeling their gonna have problems with their lunch money this week.

I wanna go to a Britney Spears concert.
I with the gay green team.
I like hot dogs without the bun.

Deal! Hot Ashley! My NY best to Michael!

Excellent IMA Writer, that makes 2 of you!

Bill please do me.

The game sold out yesterday doucheBag!

Class? I thought it was a s s they were trying to get. That poor, sweet, Hot Reporter knows what NY City Scumbags like you consider classy.

Hey wasn't that you guys that were sexually assaulting your own female fans in your own classy GIANTS Stadium?

Class act, top to bottom, speaking of bottom has Braylon sobered up yet? Lucky he didn't mow you down on your way home from the soup kitchen LOSER!

If you weren't so pathetic Bill, you'd be hilarious.

SanCheezeBag = The Damned!!!!

odin, i love you!

goodnight all, god bless you and your families....oh, yeah, and the dolphins too!

Dear God,

Now I lay me down to sleep.

Knowing soon the jets we'll sweep.

Never say die to the beast named Wake.

For soon it's Sanchez's soul he takes.

Odin.. You know Denard is the man! Let's just hope the Def. doesn't screw it up for our Boy! This is what the Blue has needed since Henne, Hart, Long, Manningham, etc. I feel hope again! Go Blue!

No need to yell. when you yell it makes it actually harder for a viewer or listener to understand your message.

Jeff Ireland said numerous times that JT did not have an offer, and the team was not going to offer him anything until they made the decision.

Sold Out and I got 4 tickets for it. I'm really excited. My first time in Miami and first time at a Dolphins game. Now no offense and I love the Dolphins but are the fans down there real fans? Are they knowledgable and passionate? I mean I know a lot of you on the blog are awesome but at the game itself? I am 20 mins outside Philly. I hate the Eagles but their fans are the best in my opinion. Granted they are also the biggest fair weather fans ever but they get nasty, loud and make it a tough place to play. What about Miami? I watch games on tv and remember when Miami played the Eagles on Monday football and they owned the joint. Same as last years Miami vs Jets Monday nighter.

Oh yeah and btw F jt. Armando has some sort of secret man crush on him or something. Dude is a fraud.

Definition of a Fraud - someone is a fake and not true to what they portray themselves as.

He hated the jets so much he goes ring chasing with them. I wish him a miserable ending to his career. I really do. Zach could of went to the Pats but he refused to. He was a stand up guy and he could of went ring chasing with the Pats but instead went Dallas.

there are plenty of loyal dolphins players who can do charity work in miami. jt always wanted the spotlight of hollywood, i guess broadway will due. i don't want him back ever. i wish the dolphins had enough balls to never welcome him back. the probably will unfortunately. he has crapped on us twice now and there are still fans of his?? i burned one of my JT shirts when he went to the skins, i burned everything else i have with him on it the day he signed with the jets. he is a has been and a traitor who deserves zero respect. no self respecting dolphin would ever sign with the jets. marino flat out said he never would. he is a legend. i'd bet there are plenty of other who never would even take a call. if i were a player i'd fire my agent if he took a call from the jets.anyone who wears those pukey green and white uni's are scum. i have season tickets to pitt games, revis was one of my all time favorites, he is dead to me now. i have a former student who signed with the jets but has since been cut. dead to me. you wear the green i hope you go down. i was glad when revis pulled his hammy, i hope it causes him great pain all season long. i was glad jt hurt his elbow. i hope jake long snaps him arm off. i have respect for 31 teams, love for one and pure hatred for one. hate is a very strong but also the absolute appropriate word to describe my feelings about the jets, the players, coaches and fans. i'd have an outsider rumble with jets fans if i could. if anyone doesn't like it, i could care less.

I would SO love to see a blog about actual football, not the frickin' gossip rag about what someone FEELS. I think the Herald sports pretty much lost relevance (at least IMHO) when Jason Cole left for Yahoo.

Oops. Not just the Herald sports, the Dolphins coverage in particular.

Jaison......I couldn't agree more with what you said.Ihate Jason Taylor and anyone else on the Jets....and especially their fans.
Hate may be a strong word, but I love to hate for some reason.

Considering who he's playing for, he won't get a warm reception.

Where the heck has Home been?

It's called "business!" Unfortuneately, like our "Republic," we now have to face the "fact" that it is only about the "power elite," not about "we the people" if it really ever were in the first place(America was called "the great experiment," by our forefathers, remember)?

good man Jason Taylor. Rare in NFL or any sport for that matter. Bad uniform. But we might respect the enemy's best soldier but we have to do what we have to do. Put him down on his back hard, just as any attacking defensive line would deserve. He's the enemy.
(Dolphins offered him nothing. Perhaps its not his fault, but he still has to take his Jake Long medicine)

where it said dolphins must offer mr dancer a contract ?

With these comments we now know Jason Taylor is the reason why Jason Taylor in no longer with the Dolphins. To use Parcells as his scape goat JT tells me his ego is what kept him from returning to the Dolphins. While many point to JT's charity work as an example of his kindness and humility, Jason Taylor is anything but humble in the club house and feels he must receive the diva treatment 110% of the time.

i heard that the infield dirt at the stadium will be covered on sunday night. is this true?? can anyone confirm this?

Jason Taylor will get the love and cheers before the game but during the game, it's our offense's responsibility to keep him off balance and put him on his butt. The Dolphins decided to go younger with Cameron Wake and Koa Misi and the Jets decided to pay a humongous amount more for his services than the Dolphins thought he was worth. The Jets will run the smack, produce melodrama, and get all the pregame sports press in their favor, but the younger Dolphins, who have been disrespected, get the job done and win, and will always be disrespected.

"gheesh all the hate for JT is silly.

He was a great player for the Dolphins.

Can anyone on here honestly say if the Jets called you up and offered you a million dollars to come work for them you would turn it down?

Posted by: jeff | September 22, 2010 at 04:02 PM "

Agreed Jeff. I think a bunch of fans on here became fans ove the last couple of seasons and were not around when JT was in his prime.

Listen, I was one of the folks saying we should let JT go. He is obviously past his prime and it makes me laugh that he has to play major minutes with the Jets because Pace was injured. But the truth is that, in his prime as a Dolphin, JT was GREAT and will go into the HOF 5 years after he retires. I will boo Sunday night, but with all my heart, I appreciate his time and effort as a Dolphin and look forward to him retiring a Dolphin.

everyone has said "you learn from your mistakes" which i happen to believe. henne hasn't been allowed to use his skill set because the coaches are so afraid of a mistake. this translates to arrested development of the QB especially with his confidence level. bad things can happen when the opponent knows you won't throw(2 crucial fumbles late vs. vikes). is a fumble any different from a INT? a mistake (turnover) is a mistake. please take the handcuffs off the offense to make it easier on them. you can't play football afraid to make a mistake!

I have been a loyal Fin-Fan since 1970. I've seen the best and worst from this organization, and am confident this franchise is on a rebound of biblical proportions. The D is young and peaking faster than any unit I've ever seen. It's like they all have some sort of Czonka mentality.
Offensively, we suffered too many rediculous off season injuries to our line, and thus a slew of (last second) player improvisions. No wonder the offense (and Henne) is being reigned in. The pocket seems to break down one or two clicks too soon in far too many instances. But that will improve every single week...trust me.
So for the next couple of games we might only need to score 14 or 15 points to win. It looks just as good in the win column as a 37 to 10 victory. Especially if the meat-wagon is loaded with jet wreakage...

Cheers from when introduced. After that, nothing....he is the opponent. After the game is over, I will always support Jason for what he gave to our team. His Jersey should hang in the stadium one day. Thanks, Jason.

beerndrums, "where the heck has Home been". Does anyone really care?? here is 5 5 5 possibilities though.
1. KKK blog
2. HAARP blog
3. Hiding under his bed
4. Guantanamo Bay for being Anti-American
5. Counting his gold coins

I am so sick of hearing about jason taylor and his back and forth answers. What a premadonna this guy is. Now he doesn't like Parcells again. BLAH BLAH BLAH! This guy will say anything he thinks people want to hear. He is a piece of crap Jet so who cares what the hell he has to say. He must of gone to the Brett Farve school of media relations. I'm a Miami Dolphin fan so screw anyone who would be vile enough to wear the jets uniform!!!!!

From what I'm hearing, our Defense is currently ranked 5th in the NFL. Our Offence, 28th!
Last year, we lost games because we couldn't stop anyone from scoring and our Offence looked fine. With the addition of Brandon Marshall, hopes were for a more potent Offence from OC Dan Henning. Instead, things have regressed.
If Henning wants to keep his job, he needs to take the cuffs off of Chad Henne. He's stifling the growth of our young QB and it's only a matter of time before his "Run-Run-Run" philosophy costs us a win.
Unleash the Beast! Feed the Wolf! Go Fins!

Finally went back and watched the first two games again. Have to say that the few times we faced the hurry up, we looked LOST. Completely lost. We made Trent Edwards look like Jim Kelly in the k-gun days, and Favre got us with 12 men on the field twice in a three snap span. We MUST address this, because good teams will notice this and take advantage. Given our substitution packages, teams are going to use the hurry up a lot against us.
