Taylor: Would still be in Miami if Parcells had left earlier

Jason Taylor was just on a teleconference call with the South Florida media and the question that I was eager to get an answer to was his thoughts on the timing of the Bill Parcells decision to step back from the absolute power spot in Miami.

Parcells considered stepping back from his job as executive vice president of football operations prior to the start of training camp. He ultimately decided to do it just prior to the regular-season.

But what if Parcells had done it six months ago ... when the decision on Taylor was made by the Dolphins, that decision not to offer the outside linebacker a contract.

Would Taylor still be with Miami if Parcells had left earlier?

"I think that horse is already dead," Taylor said moments ago. "If you had to hold my hand over the fire and forced me to give you an answer I would have to say yes."

I asked Taylor what he thought of that timing?

"Pretty ironic," he said.

Taylor will get a reception at sold out Sun Life Stadium. He played for the Dolphins for a dozen season and he now plays for a bitter division rival. Chances of the reaction to him approaching indifference are not good.

But which one will it be? Cheers? Or Jeers?

"I have no idea to be honest," Taylor said. " I would expect because I play for the Jets, they won't be very happy. It's their home opener and they're Dolphins fans so I would expect ... oh, hell, maybe I hope it's just mixed. Whatever. Obviously everyone wants to be cheered but I understand I'm the road team and the bitter rival so I wouldn't be surprised to hear boos."

Taylor is nursing an elbow injury. It doesn't sound like that will keep him out of the game.

"I got nicked last week, but I'll be fine," he said. "You guys been around long enough to know whatever hurts I won't tell you about and it'll always feel better when it stops hurting."

Speaking of how fans react to the opposition, I asked Rex Ryan today if he has a message for the fans which he greeted with the one-finger salute at an MMA event during the offseason.

"Oh, no, absolutely not," he said carefully.

That's not exactly the gasbag answer I wanted from the bigger-than-life coach. So I asked him if, following his Hard Knocks declaration that, "We know we're better than you," in facing everyone, he believes the Jets are better than the Dolphins.

"I believe we're better than any team we play, I've never gone into any game not thinking we're going to win or the team I coach wouldn't win," Ryan said. "I always believe we're going to win. Now are we go undefeated or 15-1, no that's not going to happen. But my attitude is that we are going to be better, that we are going to win, every game, 100 percent of the game throughout my life, I expect we're going to win."

As for Miami coach Tony Sparano, he had a one-liner or two in his press conference today. He was asked what Miami's strategy is considering Darrelle Revis is out for the game -- something the Jets are confirming.

"I don't think Revis is out," Sparano said. "I'll believe it when I see. Brett Favre retired. You guys told me that was official. When I get out there, then we'll see. Right now we're preparing as if he's going to play. If he does not play, then we'll make our plans accordingly."

i noticed tony mcdaniel said he wants a new contract with more money from the fins. i watched him the last 2 games and he misses alot of tackles and doesn't give 100%,taking plays off. he's lucky he is playing. better keep his mouth shut and show some production. charles grant and marques douglas were alot better but older vets.

I wonder what Jason Taylor is doing today....

I hope we get an JT update today.

Good one bobby.
Where are all of the Jets fans at?

anyone see Mike Mayock on the NFL Network break down the Miami Team Def from this past weekend vs Min? it was a beautiful break down of excellent team def!

Taylor soils himself wearing a Jets uniform...let him retire a Jet in disgrace...

to be honest, i'm booing JT from my couch sunday evening! he's one of them now

im sure there will be a JT day sometime down the road. i will cheer my appreciation then

Im glad channing is back! cant wait to see him team with dansby! let me see:aj edds=hurt,so we dont know if he can play or not at this level? micah john=ps, if he was so good some team would've claimed
him or at least be one of the 53? dobbins= has been getting chewed up by guard and centers for
2 games and the vikes game was horrible! wiffed on at least 3 plays in the backfield and carpenter plays more than him,j allen has more tackles in 1 gm than he does 2! carpenter=decent in pass coverage but really nothing in the run game and a second or two from making a tackle(meaning other are beating him to the punch)! CHANNING CROWDER ALL DAY OVER THIS GUYS! we will be much better as a defense with him! why the hell you think we havent seen the 2man dline 5lb sets we heard so much about during training camp! when channing come back you got instant pressure up the middle with him dansby blitzing and starks at the nose! ppl wake up and recognize the talent he has vs the other guys on the team! it will show!

run taylor's way all day, by the 4th quarter he'll be done.
id rather have Parcells and what he has done for this franchise in 2 years then what Taylor did in his 10 years.

Carpenter made a game saving tackle on 3rd down at the goal line late in Min! excellent technique in shedding off the block, meeting Peterson(a beast) in the hole and standing him up for the rest of his team to finish it off. w/that said, nice to have Crowder back... but imma give Carpenter some props!

Alert, jason taylor was seen going to the rest room 6 minutes ago .

Jason Taylor is now a non-story as far as I'm concerned. He plays for the enemy. I'm really not interested in anything Jason Taylor these days. I couldn't care less what type of response he gets from the fans on Sunday. He's in an enemy uniform now and it's the hated Jets. His time will come when he's welcomed to the ring of honour and ultimately the Hall of Fame.

Worried about this game. I think it's going to be a close one and I think the Jets D is going to keep it close. I'm worried the Jets are getting their confidence back and that Sanchez may just do enough to pull things out.

Dophin 4 life,
What yo wrote puts the greatest spin on what I posted this 8 AM regarding our Defense...

I have been a loyal Fin-Fan since 1970. I've seen the best and worst from this organization, and am confident this franchise is on a rebound of biblical proportions. The D is young and peaking faster than any unit I've ever seen. It's like they all have some sort of Czonka mentality.
Offensively, we suffered too many rediculous off season injuries to our line, and thus a slew of (last second) player improvisions. No wonder the offense (and Henne) is being reigned in. The pocket seems to break down one or two clicks too soon in far too many instances. But that will improve every single week...trust me.
So for the next couple of games we might only need to score 14 or 15 points to win. It looks just as good in the win column as a 37 to 10 victory. Especially if the meat-wagon is loaded with jet wreakage...

Yea i agree he made nice stop there but where else has he factored in the run game! he's played good in short time here much props to him!! dobbins supposed to be run stopper and not living up to it now! we got to guys doing the job of one! when channing is back these guys can go to their primary roles (packages to take advantage of their skills)! give me channing all day

D4Life73- I think you should go back and watch the Vikings game, and your opinion of Carpenter will change a little. Watch what Carpenter did around the goal line, and on short yardage situations, he was great. We were getting tremendous pressure on Farve, go back and watch, Farve is probably the best Qb, in the NFL at feeling the rush, and making a little move to avoid the pressure, but except for a couple of situations where we could not get the correct personel in the game, the pressure was good. As far as Micah Johnson goes, my opinion on him is that he was my favorite player in the preseason, sure the jury is out on him, and the fact is that he isn't polished enough to get on the field yet, but to my eyes he sure looked the part in the action I saw.

Dolphins4life, I think Carpenter has played well since here, especially on ST play. Out STs needed improvement and he has been a big help there. I look forward to seeing Crowder back though, ive always defendes him and now I will see if he is as good as i think he is with some outstanding talent around him

Im not down on carpenter at all. i think he's done ok but im pissed with the ppl saying dobbins is better than channing! dobbins looks like as faster akin so far in 2 games

Patrick Turner signed off the practice squad and active for sunday vs Mia...lol

No way is Dobbins better then Channing! I hope i dont eat my words here BUT I look forward to Channig next to Dansby.

Maria,

Thanks for the update...there is nothing i love more then jets news on a Dolphins blog.

Please update continously through out the day....every half hour on the hour.

Thanks.

WHY NOT US!!!!

Alert 2 , jason taylor was seen coming out of the rest room

Alert 3 , long was seen working hard getting ready for the game .

I think you guys are nuts about Channing Crowder. He's let us down time and time again. It's pretty obvious we haven't missed him the last two weeks. Even if the guy was reliable on the field, which he's not, he can't stay healthy. I think it's a mistake just to GIVE him his job back. I'm not saying the other guys we have are any better, I just don't see Crowder as being an upgrade. I don't know how this guy gets a free pass after last year, when he was just as bad at tackling as guys like Porter, Torbor and Wilson. I'd be interested to see what it would take to get A J Hawk out of Green Bay. The team has soured on him and I think it's mostly about the type of defence they are now playing under Capers. I think Hawk would fit in well here and if he's too expensive, I hope to God we draft Crowder's replacement next year.

Craig M, Channing Crowder was in a tough spot last year, he tried to do too much and cover others assignments. Fact is we have a better run defense in there with Channing. Fact is when he went down last year teams numbers went up against us. Cant argue with numbers. Again, give the man a chance with Dansby and better talent around him and i think your going to find Crowder is a darn good football player

Alert 4 , long was seen punching the heavy pag at the training camp very hard with al ot of anger .

Its funny JT is now playing for the team whose fans he called trash and the Giants fans the class of New York. I hope he gets smashed in the mouth Sunday. He is now a Jet and should be treated like one.

Alert , jack long was seen eating a buffalo to get stronger for the jets .

ppl wake up and recognize the talent he has vs the other guys on the team! it will show!

Posted by: Dolphins4Life73 | September 23, 2010 at 10:47 AM

Wake Up?

Sorry, I've been watching him for 5 years now and I'm just coming out of a Crowder induced coma.

Dansby and Dobbins 2-0, the record don't LIE!

Channing Crowder riding the pine and the excercise bikes. Don't get me wrong, he looks good doing it, good technique and posture sitting the bench!

Odin, i value your opinion but you will be proven wrong on channing, wondering where has this guy been all this time! i was wrong about us keeping white and im still here to take whatever from whoever about that but like bobby12 said and i've been screaming is the man was trying to do porter and akin job not to mention his! now with faster more hungrier guy around him he can focus solely on being a mlb! now if he dont do this i will be the first to say he's garbage! not since zack has he been paired with a mlb even close to what dansby bring! misi and wake have already made you forfget about porter and jt as players, not to mention this defense seems to fit everybody involved one way or the other! i like the coverage sean smith showed on shanicoe on last play hope
to see more of that!

WHEN I WENT TO nfl.com today i noticed no news about the dolphins for days now ,and this the way i like it;

1-noNEWS ABOUT DOLPHINS ARRESTS .
2-NO DOLPHIN PLAYER SHOUTING HIS MOUTH.
3-NO NEWS ABOUT INJURED PLAYERS .

THE WAY TUNA LOVES IT .PLAYERS PLAY,COACHES COACH ,GOD FATHER (TUNA ) WATCHES .

we will sneak on the jets .

ALOCO SHOULD BE MY NAME ...MARIA ONLY FOR ALERTS

Alert 8, crowder is planning to shave tonight ,

If you guys want to get pumped up about Koa Misi and how awesome he has played, go watch this video:

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-playbook/09000d5d81abfc91/Playbook-Rookies-making-plays

Shows how bullish strong he really is. Amazing. Listen to Mayock's comment about us even drafting Misi, what it speaks of Koa.

Ironic...it was Jason Taylor who said that the jets have the dumbest chant. That goes a long way with me. Also, am I the only one out there who isn't buying the whole "sancha the ladies man" thing?

Crowder has been injured Evey season for the past 4. He's only been in the league 6. The last time he played a full season Nick Saban, God Forbid, was the Coach!!!!
Do any of you guys know what chronic means(and I'm not talking about something you smoke)?
Get real guys. A chronically injured vet, with ONE, I repeat **ONE** decent season(08)out of 6.
Even if he was as good as you guys think he is, he simply can't be counted on. He was drafted in 05 and his last full season was 06, HELLO!!!!

I'm not saying that Dobbins or Carpenter are the Final Solution for the Brady's and the Sanchez's(I think Micah Johnson is), But I am saying that the chronically inured Crowder is the living epitome, the prototypical definition of what Bill Parcells and the Trifecta calls a PROGRESS STOPPER!

1 good season out of 6, often injured, mister day late and a dollar short, etc, etc.

C'mon Man!!!!

ALoco- Thank yo for the goat head recipe, I have a lambs head that I will substitute.

Armando, why not a report on how the jets plan on covering our recievers Sunday? This is a big story line for this game. considering 1 Grevious Revis is out, 2 their dead beat dad can't cover Marshall(didn't Marshall burn him for 18 catches in a game?) What do you think the prop planes will try and do to stop the pass attack(besides the obvious blitz, and hope Cameron continues to run wildcat plays when we are driving)

bootang, beautiful video and also i saw carenter play and dansby play vs peterson .nice .

crowder can work as mail boy for the team .buying lunches ,deliver mail, buy drinks and drive the players home at night .

Dolphin4life,

I value your opinion as well. I live for debating with knowledgable Dolphins fans. We don't have to fight and argue just to debate. We can debate to debate, I learn from it.
Just like you being wrong about White, I was even more wrong about Jason Allen, so I don't pretend to know everything. I have however been guilty of strongly overstating my case sometimes-LOL.
We can have differing opinions, it's fine. Me and Bobbyd12 have had disagreements, but we don't fight about it. Though we have ragged each other a time or two after one or the other was proven right or wrong, but all in good fun.
Just like you say Misi and Wake have made us forget about those other two guys, Dansby, Dobbins and Carpenter have made me forget about Crowder.
Just the fact that we're debating which ILB's to start after opening 2-0 is a good thing.
In some twisted alternate universe, we could be deabting on whether or not to Fire Cam Camoron after his 3rd season as head coach-YIKES!

Bootang- The playbook breakdown of the defense against the Vikes was great. What it shows is that we are playing TEAM defense.I just watched the breakdown, and it really backs the argument that Carpenter has done a good job. He hilighted the play on the goal line where AP cut back because Langford had plugged the gap, and Carpenter shook his man, and made a very athletic tackle that showed his quickness, and strength.

ODIN AND Dolphin4life are not fighting even if all ingredients are here to help them to fight .i am out of biz .

the yellow eyes

dansby didn't rush too fast like a donkey to block peterson ,he looked at him like a hawk then he ran at him w/the right speed and davis came to help ...........good thing we got ready of the pizza guy who coached the dl last year .

It's crazy how good our defense is when you think about the fact we don't have AJ Edds (though Carpenter assumed that role) Philip Merling, Channing Crowder, and this past week minus Jared Odrick.

My take on Crowder is let's wait and see. I agree with those that said he was trying to fill gaps left by lousy players around him last few years (Akin Ayodele). But, I also remember seeing Crowder wiff on tackles and be out of place and missing tackles, etc.

I happen to think Crowder was the best returning LB we had, but, he's hurt frequently, which is getting troubling. If he plays well and stays healthy for the rest of the season, then he might live up to the money he was paid.

BUT, if he gets hurt again (or is consistently out of place) then we got to cut him quick! I'm willing to give the guy a chance though 'cause right now he's the best we have (besides Dansby).

Dear Mrs. Soiled Bottom,

I hate to bother you this time of day knowing that All My Children is on.

However, it's seems we have a crisis of Biblical proportions here at the Blog.

It seems as though Mr. Armando "Celebrity Mogul" Salguero is a bit "short staffed" lately.

Between waxing and washing the Vette, scheduling guests for his show and making coffee and Ginn runs, it seems that Jeff and David can't catch a break to save their lives, let alone "ghost write" articles for the blog.

I know, I know, I digress Mrs. Bottoms I apologize. The point is, I drew the short straw, so I'm the one that has to ask.

Would you mind putting on a fresh pot of coffee and getting that "kid" of yours out of bed? It is afternoon already and we need him here at the blog.

PS: Mrs. Bottoms, a little heads up, you might want too have a can of air freshener on hand before you open that basement door.

mike nolan has done wonders with the defense and the players are excited to play this attacking style. now only if our offense can get excited. for some reason'after our 1st drive the offense was "put on ice" for the remainder of the game. i'd like to see a complete effort, win or lose, on both sides of the ball.

Mike Nolan so far is the MVP of this team. BY FAR!

guys, lets wait before we give the store to nolan .

the stock market seems fishy to me ,it never goes down any more .

Taylor is washed up...lets just worry about beating the jets instead of worrying about Taylors feelings !

Aloco,

Don't give up quite so easily.

Don't tell anyone(wink, wink), but I really am fighting with Dolphins 4 life.
This is just my "set up" for the "psyche out" you see. Yeah, that's what it is.

I'm disarming him with my charm so to speak, you know. Yes, yes indeed, it works eveytime.

I lull him to sleep with gracious accomadating banter, then I move in for the kill.

Am intellectual "Sucker Punch" if you will.

PS: Aloco, you think we can focus all this Jason Traitor fueled hate into those Yellow eyes?
You know, a sort of Homemade Haarpy Ray to shoot down them prop planes?

ValHalla Baby!!!!

Me,

Taylor is washed up

Well then, I guess it's time to "hang him out to dry".

Actually, I'm hoping that Channing Crowder does shut up his haysayers and plays a helluva game Sunday Night. He should be inspired by the play of Jason Allen and the heat from the young linebackers chomping at the bit for his job. With Dansby next to him, and the rrest of the defense playing lights-out, there are no more excuses! I hope he is "challenged" by all of this to impress everyone with a pro-bowl caliber performance against the Jets because we do have guys that have shown they can replace him like Carpenter. It's put up or shut up time Channing!

Tracy,

I've been called a lot of things in my life, but a "haysayer"? That's definitely a first.

I don't think Crowder will play this Sunday.

Somebody posted earlier in the week about John Offerdahls groin injury. Repeated attempts to come back to soon eventually led to an early end to his career.

Groin injuries take a long time to heal and thet're notoriously easy to re-injure. In this day an age, medical staffs are well aware of this, so I don't think he gets clearence, at least not this week.

Then again, if he were to come back Sunday and re-injure it?

Crowder! Crowder! Crowder! Crowder!

Maria/ALOCO,

Thinks for my JT updates......

I don't know what I would do without my fix.

WHY NOT US!!!!!
