Will Allen not happy to be on IR - understandably

Will Allen is on injured reserve. And he's not very happy about it.

Allen, out on injured reserve for the second consecutive season, has told multiple sources how unhappy and displeased he is with the fact the Dolphins decided to effectively shut him down for the 2010 season and not hold a roster spot open for him until he could return to full health.

That timetable for Allen returning to full health was initially reported as the first game of the season but the truth is Allen isn't ready now. Multiple sources are saying he would more likely be ready to contribute in the Miami secondary by the start of October or the Oct. 4 game against New England.

The Dolphins decided against holding a roster spot open for Allen, privately telling The Herald's Jeff Darlington there were too many uncertainties with that timetable. Publicly, the club has shown no desire to explain its thinking on placing Allen on injured reserve.

"I'm not going to get into the specific reasons why we did any of these things," Coach Tony Sparano said this week when asked the reason for Allen being shelved. "But it's something that had to be done right now."

Allen disagrees, according to those close to him. In the days following his Aug. 11 arthroscopic surgery, Allen felt like he had turned the corner on the injury that forced him to miss all of the 2009 season. Yes, he had passed his physical and was practicing at the start of training camp, but he didn't feel quite right.

He felt right following the latest surgery and all he wanted, I am told, was a couple of weeks to prove that on the field.

He will not get that chance.

So why is this even a topic?

Well, the Dolphins have had issues in the secondary, and particularly at cornerback, this preseason. Sean Smith struggled. Jason Allen, often dismissed as only a special teams player after being selected in the 2006 first round, showed more promise than in the past.

And although Jason Allen wasn't stellar, himself giving up scoring plays in the preseason, he displaced Smith as the starter for the regular-season opener at Buffalo on Sunday. Sparano confirmed that Monday.

"The decision hasn't been made all the way," Allen said Monday. "But I'm preparing like I'm the starter. That's how I always prepare and this week is no different."

There is nothing here that suggests benching Smith for Allen is the wrong decision. That is a coaching decision and Sparano and his staff know better than anyone, certainly better than me, which players they have confidence in starting.

But the question that lingers is why the rush to discard Will Allen? Sure, there is uncertainty about his return to health. But tell me what is guaranteed in today's NFL, anyway?

Why not hold the roster spot open for a week or two just in case the Allen prognosis turns from a question mark to an exclamation point? And if that question mark lingers, then the Dolphins could put Allen in IR and move on.

The Dolphins, silent on the matter, might argue that roster spots are precious and they cannot hold any spot open for Allen. Really?

So the waiver wire additions of Joe Reitz, Robert Rose, Jermey Parnell and Clifton Geathers were all that important? Do these unproven, untested guys come with no uncertainty?

Are they all more likely to contribute to the Dolphins this season than Will Allen would once he got fully healthy?

And, yes, I know it is uncertain Allen would reach 100 percent health regardless of what sources are saying. But one must admit it is uncertain the young untested guys taking up the roster spots will ever help the Dolphins in any way, either.

We'll see how it works out.

don't you guys have to work? maybe you're at work or on an obama plan!

whoops! sorry! i'm retired and can stay up 24/7.....I'm not the one to dictate anyone's bedtime. I apologoze!

This Is Upsetting, Forget Cornerback....we Still Need Weapons To Throw The Ball To. Ravens Got Boldin, We Got Marshall. They Got 1000 Yard Derrick Mason And Tj (whi We Could Have Signed For Less Than A Million)...we Got.....nobody. I Dont Believe, With As Much As I Love Hartline, That His Preaseason Drops Or His And Bess Inability To Score Or Bess Fumbles Can Be Avoided. Again, We Are In Trouble, And The Brass Wont Do Anything About It.
Jets Signing Revis Hurts Also, I Thought He Would Be Stubborn. Damn.

Im Also Going To Say This. We Get Vincent Jackson, We Become A Playoff Team. We Wouldve Gor Tj For Much Less But We Didnt. We Get Matt Jones Or Clayton Or Bryant (if Healthy) And We May Be A Playoff Team. Right Now We Are Not Even Close.

It will definitely be interesting to see what our team looks like now that it really counts. i'd be lying if i said i wasnt concerned about the gauntlet we face from weeks 2 through 9.

Putting Will Allen On Ir Os Pure : We Are Pissed At U For Not Rehabing Correctly And U Are Not Part Of This Team. And U Better Believe We Needed Him, Especially This Year. THIS SECONDARY NEEDS PICKS!

Wow you guys are negative. We have a good strong young team and Will Allen is over 30 and his knee looks like it isn't going to heel properly. Can't cling on to the past, so they manned up and moved on. These guys have upgraded the team massively over the summer and we need to give a chance to see how things go.

We win on Sunday by 20 points. Go Phins.

Buffalo D-backs will shut #7 down, Get #10 ready!

London Fin said Miami wins by 20-haaaaaahaaaaa. Be lucky to score 13

I'll share that comment saying "miami will be alright and great" WHEN...Mr Chad Henne shows me he IS our future..I sure as heck hope so but he has a lot of proving to do still... everyone is talking only about our D and stuff..you all know Henne still needs to prove he IS our guy!

And i do agree that we should have taken one of those WR's that were out there..Jackson was a long shot for any team because there is a lot of nfl red tape to cut through before he is even allowed to get traded this year...but there are others that could add WR depth to our team, but it seems baltimore and others planned better than our guys. And im not completely slamming our FO, they did some great things this yeat...but they didnt go that extra mile like some other teams did. Like i said earlier...we are 1 WR injury away from really hurting our season, and if Henne strugles...were forked

you people need to calm down. the reason we have so many LBs on our team is because Mike Nolan has a million blitz schemes and needs to have fresh guys rushing in or covering TEs on every down. it will be a rotating system with the starters playing 70% and the other guys subbing them in every 3-4 downs.

In Surtain situations we should put in Patrick Surtain.

The only joy I take out of this discussion is knowning that a month from now I will be shoving crow down alot of your fickle throats.

Nobody gave a damn about Grant when we signed him. Nobody gave a damn about the dude from the jets when we signed him. Now everybody is crying because thier cut.

Did they do something special in PRE-SEASON that i didn't know about that has all this cause for concern? Did anybody?

Apperantly not because everytime I came on this blog the talk was about how much we SUCKED during pre-season.

So the coach and the GM cut some scrubs who didn't perform up to your level of expectaction (you said it yourself, sucked in preason). and now the sky is falling.....please.

Some of you have already come to your senses, and for that i applaud you. No sarcasm. No double talk. You realize we haven't played a SINGLE MEANINGFUL DOWN.

Others have decided to go down with the ship and i respect that as well. just be prepared to eat you written words during the season

Or i guess you can just change your user name.

Consider White and Merling were both 2nd rounders and Turner was a 3rd rounder. Then consider how valuable those choices are. I'm sure we could go on with other failed picks as well.

Bottom line is, this FO has wasted some serious draft choices!! What a disgrace!! Now consider all the hype Parcels and Ireland came with and the fact that they've had 3 years to develop a great team. But it seems as if they take 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

I'm sure Jerry Jones and Bill Belichek knew this fault about Parcels and are probably laughing at us because of it. Can't anybody help this team become elite...or are we just jinxed!!??

Aqua1, be careful. The Parcells'disciples will be all over you.Lol!

You realize you just said you get joy out of shoving things down other men's throats.

You just love it then when Edwards shoves billy's willy down yours this weekend.

You do realize that we lost our starting QB and RB last year and still with 3 weeks to go in the season our playoff destiny was in our hands. OUR HANDS. The players chocked down the strech with a blow out loss to buffalo and then spotting 20 points to their next 2 opponets.

We are close man. Hang in there.

I'm still scratching my head over the Pat White pick. Scratching my head with letting go Martin for Nalbone. Scratching my head over the Camarillo trade (apparently this Sapp dude is one of the worst cover corners, according to a website I was on the other day). Scratching my head about the Jake Long injury (WTF was he doing on the field). Scratching my head over the Carpenter signing (Another first round bust). Scratching my head about Jason Allen being a starting corner again (OK, Smith has sucked this offseason, but is this the best guy we have to replace him??). Scratching my head over the constant reshuffling of the o-line (How can they have any kind of chemistry?). I'll stop scratching, it's starting to hurt. They must know what they're doing. I hope.

Who hath spoken against the Trifecta?

Is this not blasphemy against the word of PARCELL"S

What a disgrace indeed. Taking a 1-15 laughing stock to division champs.

With all the hype we should have won 2 Super Bowls by now.

Woe is me, Woe is me.

Missing on draft picks sucks. Guess what pal everybody does. Most fans, at least the ones that don't wear panties knows this. Boo Hoo Hoo!
A disgrace? I'll tell you what's a disgrace, the way Shula was "retired" that's a disgrace. Replacing a legend like Shula with douche that does extends commercials and looks like an idiot on survivor.
A disgrace? How about the way Marino was "retired"?
How about having a pornstache run your team into the ground on the arm of Fiedler, that's a disgrace.
Passing on Bree's, signing Culpepper and then fielding a team with QB's Cleo Lemon and John Beck's a disgrace.
A f_cking disgrace indeed. You want to talk about missing on draft picks? How about Clammed Chowder and the whole Ginn Family.

I'll tell you what a disgrace is. Having Lions fans laughing at you for wearing your Dolphin jersey.

You can bet your a s s they won't be laughing at me this Sunday, and I'll be proudly wearing my Jersey.

I think the trifecta is showing a lot of indecision and second-guessing themselves these days. Last years draft picks falling by the wayside and getting rid of players like Anderson that have seemed to do everything asked of them for no-name cast offs that couldn't make other teams? Everyone thought the trifecta was so smart because of the turnaround that happened in 2008. That wasn't the trifecta that did that, that was Pennington. He led and willed that team to the playoffs. The trifecta was the beneficiary of his talent and leadership.

Yeah it was all Pennington.

Did we use the Wildcat that season? I can't remember?

He looked like the consumate Pro in the playoff game against Baltimore. I guess he must have run out of will huh?

Oh well, maybe another 10 missed draft picks and we can find the next Pennington.

Can't they have just put him on the PUP list??? I've decided to stop thinking about what this season might be like, cuz I'm done reading all these negative things about this team. I would have done so many things differently, but I have no power, now I'm going to sit back and HOPE for the best come Sunday.

We missed on the White pick, that one was a head scratcher for me two.

The fact is we drafted White for the wildcat. We needed the wildcat because the team they inherited was F_ucking atrocious.

Big deal, we got Thigpen cheap and White couldn't even carry his jockstrap. I'm done whining about White and that wasted pick.

We wasted the Turner pick wah wah wah! So F_ucking what, we drafted Hartline, signed Marshall and "found" Bess, Moore and Wallace, ALL of which are head and shoulders above what Turner will ever be.

WTF? I can just see Tony's presser: Well we lost today, but, ah, you see that White Pick two years ago, yeah that really hurt us......and don't forget that Wilson signing...yeah again guys...I just don't know whar we were thinking...............

Been listening to your show for about 2 hrs now. Do you guys ever talk Dolphin football? Do you ever mention Dolphin football as filler conversation? Have you ever heard of Dolphin Football? Do you klnow we have a game this week? Its on Sunday, 1 PM!

The Bears gave a kings ransom for Cutler and stunk it up all season with Int after Int.

Vernon Gholston will be starting for the wets.

The Bills went out and signed Torbor to start at LB.

We signed Marshall and Dansby and picked up Dobbins for chaep, but lets all cry about wasted draf picks from two drafts ago.

I agree with your sentiments but I'm afraid your wasting your time. Armando doesn't "visit" any Dolphins blogs either.

Oh and PS: Yes I've had way to much coffee already this morning. Must be that new Colombian Blend. It goes really well with severe cases of ADHD.

Pennington didn't lose the game vs the Ravens. The o-line sucked, our QB was running for his life. That one wasn't on Pennington. Henne wouldn't of been much better. Besides, the Ravens "D" was giving everybody a hard time that year, so to blame Pennington doesn't make sense. Don't buy it odinseye, sorry.

Besides, 2008 was a bit of a fluke. The Dolphins did play well, but the easy schedule and a few breaks really helped. Sure I was happy they won, but last year was a reminder the Dolphins are not there yet. And until this regime makes the team win 1 playoff game, they haven't accomplished anything. And that's a fact.

i am shell shocked like everyone else but we got a game to play in 5 days. i was at the bills game last year and witness firsthand the ambush. look,we have the better team but the bills are tough at home. they have weapons like their backs, evans, spiller, parish etc. we need to take the handcuffs off our offense, let them go all out 100% and see what we're made of. lets use our weapons this year;shotgun with 4 wideouts and see if we can get some td's! we kept the bills in the game last year and they bit us;lets not play for FG's.

Have you ever heard the phrase: Don't mess up a good story with the facts-LOL?

Seriously, I was going overboard to make my point. Good call. It wasn't just Pennington that got us that division title. It was one unsung hero after another all season long. Plus we led the league in turn overs. Big stat.

One thing you have to respect about the trifecta is that they will play tje best player no matter where they were drafted or where they came from.

Good point greg z. I would go as far as saying the Bills game is a must win for the Dolphins. Facing Minnesota, the Jets and the Patriots afterwards, a loss in Buffalo and we could easily start 0-4. At that point, kiss the season good bye.

Point taken. But its gotten worse...now i have to hear about Revis and the Pats. Plus more down talking about Jasen Allen. No wonder these sheep don't respect the Fins. If your mind is weak this crap can brain wash you

Are they going to fix this fccking iphone app or just let it continue to suck for the whole year? I wish there was a way to get my money back.

we watched jason allen in camp for several days. he outplayed sean smith who got burnt daily in practice. im shocked but pleasantly suprised the coach recognized this fact and decided to correct it by moving jason allen to a starter. maybe we will play the best people. only regret was we didnt keep nate ness;he looked better than clemons.

I'm not anti or pro trifecta. But as a fan, I think I have a right to question some decisions. And I always tell people, show me results. I don't care what Parcells did before, I want to see him make the Dolphins a winner. And until he does, he hasn't proved anything. Jimmy Johnson had won 2 SB's, and look what he did. Nick Saban had an impressive track record, he was supposed to be the next Bill Belicheik. Look what he did. So until we start winning, I'm not going to say everything Parcells does turns into gold. Sure he's made a lot of good calls, like Jake Long, Kendall Langford, Randy Starks, Devone Bess, etc etc... But he also made a lot of bad decisions, and right now we're at 7-9. Anything under 9-7 this year is a failure in my book. This is a big year for the Trifecta because the owner wants results, just like me. With the highest payroll in the NFL, another 7-9 or 8-8 just doesn't cut it. And it won't cut it for Ross either. He's expecting a SB. What's Parcells going to tell him if we finish 7-9 again? Give me another 3 years? Ross has a good friend named Carl Peterson, and if the Dolphins fail again this year, that's the end of the Parcells era. He'll run away from Florida just like Johnson and Saban did. And we'll be back to square one.

more cuts to come after the buffalo game." coach spazano says."..

Pistol, Phone app working great for me. just delete the app and then reload it from I Tunes. works fine after that

All of the things you said only prove that we need stability. A new coach means a new regime wich means new players which means...like you said back at square 1. BTW whats wrong with another 3 years? That makse 6 years total. I don't know how old you are, but 5 years used to be the standard just to build a consistent winner. a playoff caliber team. So really, whats wrong with another 3 years?

Still listening to the show.

Are there any Dolphins fans that live in Florida? Every one that calls in wants to talk about another team or puts down the Fins...

I'm in B'more and that Sht never happens on thier radio station. It's all about purple and black or its about nothing.

kris, it doesn't take 6 years to build a playoff caliber team. Please... In fact, there's no other league where turnarounds are quicker than the NFL. You want proof? Who won the SB last year? How good were the Saints before last year? The last 4 teams remaining in the playoffs last year were the Saints, the Vikings, the Colts and the Jets. The only one out of those 4 that have been a constant power house for the last 5 years would be the Colts. That's it. And that's because they have the best QB in the NFL. That's a FACT. And besides, if I'm the owner and I have the highest payroll in the league, I would want results. Or else you become like the Washington Redskins, spending money like crazy to get little results.

And to answer you're other question, I'm 48 years old. Not sure what that has to do with anything but whatever..

jon gruden just arrived down to m.i.a... dolphins vehicle seen leaving the private area tarmac.

I think around time for nfl is 3 years ,if it was 6 years as kris said the tuna and co won't be be fired this year absent of a playoff app .

You miss read my comments. or perhaps i didn't communicate them clearly. I meant a perrnial winner. a team that is a lock to make the playoffs year in and year out and you only re-load as opposed to re-building. Like the Pats, The Colts, and the Pack.

Its intresting you chose the Saints as an example because they had a great 2006 (NFC Championship game loss to Da Bears) followed by an 8-8 in 07 and an 7-9 in 08. followed by the SB in 2010.

Guess you would have written them off to and fired Sean Peyton, labeled reggie bush a bust and drew brees a one hit wonder. after 2, count them 2 less than stellar seasons after going to the NFC championship game in 06.

My point. You can't fire every one after 3 years. building a CONSISTENT winner is like "novacane, just give it time".

If I offended you with the age question I apologize, that wasn't my intent. But the fact that you want instant sucess made me think of you as a immature thinker.

Speaking of wasted money, apparently the Redskins are in trading talks with the Tennessee Titans about guess who? Fat Albert H himself. Way to go Dan Snyder...LOL!

kris, go nibble on some soft shell and ziiiiip it!...nobody cares on what kind of fan you claim to be...lol

kris, don't worry, I didn't feel offended, and I know that's not what you meant. And I'm happy you brought the Saints as an example. You mention they had a "great" 2006. So something to build on. When did we have our "great" season? When did we have something to build on? I surely don't remember. And please spare me the 2008 season. Most of those guys are gone anyway. Pennington isnot our starter anymore, both our corners from that year are gone, Porter is gone, Ginn is gone, Martin is gone, Satele is gone, etc etc... I'll tell you what, if the Dolphins have that kind of season, the one the Saints had in 2006, I'll be the first one here to say we're on to something. But I'm still waiting... and hoping.

However you guys slice and dice it, you can not deny going into the first game

1) SemiRookie FS
2) Rookie OLB
3) Rookie DE
4) Second year Corner that got burned last year almost every game
5) Jason Allen
6) Converted DE to NT

The only proven players on Defense are: Dansby, Starks and Bell

All Others need to bloosom. There is no depth at CB or DE or OLB.

Where is the TUNA specialty Stud OLB?

We need our offensive to work like a machine and put up big points.

Armando, the manner in which you write most of your posts wherein you question the Trifecta's moves is just laughable.

You question placing Will Allen on IR yet admit you know nothing about just how long it will take Will to get back, only write what Will thinks about it. Are not players always optimistic about recovery time?

You question the 4 guys they added and true they are all rooks but you know nothing about these guys and also nothing about what Trifecta thinks about those guys.

And lastly you have to throw a dinger at J Allen "he got burned once in pre-season deep". Guess that disqualifies him from starting? You write nothing about how he performed this camp, his improvement if there is any etc.

Without any solid information / facts you question = criticize the move anyway.

Classic Armando post.

I give free rim jobs at the park

I guess the point is that we both want a winner on the field. We only differ on what we feel is an acceptable time table. I can live with that.

Time will soon which one of us is correct. I hope for both of our sakes its me bacause that means we put a winner on the field this year.

I love the taste of guys anus on my tongue

kris, I want to see us winning as badly as you. But some of these recent moves are rather bizarre. And speaking of bizarre, WTF was our Pro Bowl LT doing on the field playing a meaningless game that already everyone has forgotten? That was dumb. Did you see Romo or Austin or Whitten anywhere on the field for the Cowboys? C'mon Sparano, use your brains for God's Sake...

I suck on dingleberries

Can't really argue with that. I will say that the players didn't complain because they understand that they are not executing the way they know they can/should. Yes it was big risk for little reward. But for me its a way to gage the locker room and since nobody has said a peep to the media, it tells me that we got a tight team unified under one coach

If, when the Trifecta took over, they said the secondary was the best unite on the team, then why did they let Andre Goodman and Reinaldo Hill walk? Wouldn't have been better to draft Davis, Smith and Clemens and let them develope behind these veterans? Granted, there was no salvaging the offensive side of the ball, other tham Ricky and Ronnie so have at it, as it where, as far as demo and rebuild but the secondary?

Now after rebiulding the o-line we wipe clean half of it and replace them with unknowns? Bigger, younger with more upside but "upside" is relative.

Bring back Thomas to backup the starting RG position and return to some stablity.

I love man juice on my cereal
