Dolphins go into the bye weekend a day early

The Dolphins have finished their work for the bye weekend. Coach Tony Sparano told the players today that they are off Friday (unexpectedly) as well as Saturday and Sunday.

The team is scheduled to gather again Monday to begin preparations for the Oct. 17 game at Green Bay.

Sparano was in a good mood today, saying the players had, "two of the practice practices in a long time," on Thursday and Friday.

Sparano's message to the team the past couple of days has been that not all is lost following consecutive home losses to division rivals New York and New England and that the season isn't over yet. "they understand there's a lot of football left," he said.

Interesting that although there is no injury report for the Dolphins this week because they are not playing, Sparano said today that Channing Crowder has made "progress the last couple of days," suggesting there might be a light at the end of the dark tunnel of inactivity the inside linebacker has been in.

Crowder has not play at all in the 2010 regular season. Sparano at one point mentioned the moment when Crowder does eventually return so obviously he's not thinking injured reserve at this point.

Dear Mr. Salguero

Coach Sparano also went on to say...except for those 3 tackles last season one would think Channing Crowder caught Alligators for a living.

Soiled :)

Armando, couple of questions.
1.I would like to see your grade on Sparano & Ireland. I believe if we dont make a playoffs this year (which I'm still hopeful for) they HAVE to be on the hot seat. A lot of GOOD coaches (who have won) are not coaching right now and could come in: Gruden, Dungy, Cowher.
2. With Parcells all but gone is the former GM of the Chiefs who is friends w/ owner Ross in the waiting to take over?

Andy NJ @4:32

Great analysis. I am not sure I completely agree with you about the D. Starks has been playing End, Solia is only a mediocre NT and Dobbins and Carpenter (most of all) are awful. So awful that it makes us all wish for a pathetic Crowder. The hope is that Crowder will play alongside Dansby like he did with Zach. Fingers crossed because he looked pretty good back then.

Why is Sparano giving these guys an extra day off? Like they deserve it after the fiasco that was Monday night's game? I wouldn't give those lazy douchebag effers a minute off until after the next game. Except Vontae, Bess, Ricky and Wake, because they are the only ones who brought it.

Start Thigpen. He has the essentials in spades, an even stronger arm than Henne and far better flow as a QB. You don't start Penny because there is no future with him, IMO. Except that he and BMarsh practiced together in the offseason - giving them a knowledge of each other that Henne and BM have certainly not even come close to having.

Henne is WAY better than Thigpen or Pennington, PERIOD. It's not even close. He had ONE bad game with two bad throws (INT #3 was Marshall's fault)- and he STILL threw for 300 yards. Over hsi career, he has statistically outperformed Flacco AND Ryan, two higher-rated QBs who went to better teams. Now you want to throw him on the scrap pile because special teams and poor playcalling put him in a bind on Monday night?

Stop bashing the kid- you only highlight your own ignorance when you call for him to be benched. Thigpen couldn't hold a starting job in KC and he throws WAY more picks than Henne. Pennington was great in 2008 but he's been mediocre throughout his career and started last year at 0-4. They're better? Please.

Henning should follow the special teams coach out the door. Poor coaching and boneheaded player transactions are our problems- not our young QB.

Did Henne throw farther then 15 yard passes???, I cant recall....

Cuban Menace- Yes Henne threw a lot of passes over 15 yrds, they just happened to be thrown to the wrong team, or incomplete!

The problem with Henne is they got this don't make a mistake thing drilled into him.

It's like when your Dad first puts you in his sedan and starts teaching you to drive. You are all freaked out and paranoid.

He is afraid to make a mistake? It causes him to stare down receivers and aim his passes? I think that is where the passes hitting the ground is coming from as well?

They have drilled into him that not turning the ball over is better than throwing 5 touchdown passes?

Bottom line is that he is hand cuffed. This regime is from the Parcells tree. He loathes the quarterback. Because guess what? Sometimes when you pass the friggen ball it gets picked off.

That "manage the game" works a lot better when you have a stifling defense and a time consuming, wear you down running game.

So problem is, when your defense isn't up to par or you are playing from behind...It's damn hard to ask a kid to throw you up and down the field.

Shula wanted to run first too but adapted to the personnel (Marino), and let it fly. I'm not suggesting the coaches do that but this staff speaks of Henne like some scrub special teams player on a week to week audition?

Why not ass!

Go Phins!

Wish everyone would stop quoting stats when saying Henne is good. You can have decent stats and not be able to play well when it's needed, or be able to show that flash and panache that it takes to be special (in the least). The kid just doesn't have the intangibles. He's a good backup.

Thigpen career stats (4 years): 19 TDs, 16 INTs, 72.4 passer rating

Henne (career stats (3 yrs): 17 TDs, 18 INTs, 77.6 passer rating

Not a glaring difference between the two, statistically, despite BrassMonkey's assertion using stats (for chrissakes, look up the numbers before you bandy about absolutes). Flacco (40TD/30INT/82.9PR) and Ryan (44TD/28INT/84.6PR) both have the intangible "it." When Thigpen went in against Pittsburgh last year, there was an immediate fire. Yeah, he threw an INT but he had FIRE. Henne lacks it. Pennington (102TD/64INT/90.1PR) has it (just a weak arm). Henne acts like he could care less if he wins or loses (I know he does care); WHERE IS THE PASSION? Every year some fans say, "It'll take another year or two to get there" or "...for him to develop." Been waiting since at least 1999 to get there, or for this team to "develop."

Yo Andy NJ i too am 28 and from jersey....i moved down here a few years ago.....weird....what part of jerz u from?

As far as the fins go i was there to witness the horror that was the 2 games....i havent been this pissed since the 1-15 season....its disappointing to see 2 prime time games fall to our two biggest rivalries....its upsetting but at 2-2 would have guessed the same record even though i would have loved to see them win these past 2 instead of wining the first 2.....i believe henne will be fine but he better step up soon or else...is it me or just jason allen wear iceskates for cleats?

Dobbins! You were out of your lane on that kickoff and didn't make the tackle! WHY NOT ASS!

Hey Mc Redhead you knew they were going to run that twist on the field goal and you didn't block anyone! WHY NOT ASS!

Hey honey we have done all that other stuff? WHY NOT ASS!?

Everyone else in the league seems to get returns and kick touchbacks! WHAY NOT US!

Go Phins!

its a shame a team cant trade its fans.

Please, for the love of God, no John Gruden. Why do so many people think this guy is a genius? Tampa Bay has yet to recover from his "expertise". I don't know at this point who should be brought in. I have lost my faith in Sparano & Co. Nolan gets a pass for now. BP please get going and take Henning with you. There is a good mix of optimism and pessimism here. I hope for the best, but my gut tells me this is going to be a long season. It seems like the Fins get out coached on a regular basis. This team is lucky to be 2-2, they could easily be 0-4. Well, take it easy all.

Adam Shefner oh sorry scratch that...William Shatner is reporting that the Miami Dolphins are bringing in Denny Green for a pep talk.

"You wanna Crown their ass then crown their ass"!

They are also bringing in Jim Mora for a pep talk.

"Playoffs?! Playoffs?! Playoffs"?!

Afterwards the team will be treated to a race between Shula on his Rascal Scooter vs The Tuna on his Golf Cart.

Go Phins!

Andy NJ needs some Prozac. I have not seen anybody that depressed since the stock market crashed. Yup. Henne is not Dan Marino. Henne is a young QB who had a really bad set of interceptions. AND our special teams had another godawful game. Definitely reason for another beer or two but not reason to hang youself or give up on the season. The big picture is that Henne has been improving game on game and just pushed it too hard, thinking that he had to be Tom Brady. We need to return to a run-first conservative offense. The big picture is that the churning of backup players is killing our special team and has to be done much more selectively. All fixable. We will still make the playoffs.

IT'S A PRACTICE MAN,WE ARE TALKING PRACTICE .WE ARE NOT TALKING REAL GAMES,WE ARE TALKING PRACTICE .

DAN MARINO WAS AN INTERCEPTION MACHINE AND HE NEVER WON ANY THING .WHY CAN'T LET HENNE DO HIS THING AND LET HIM AIR IT AS SOME OF YOU SUGGESTED EARLY .

jimmyjam, gotta agree with your post from 7:31. i've watched henne for 2 years in camp and all the games. henne for whatever reason doesnt command that huddle. he plays the game with no emotion, making the same mistakes eachpractice/game. a nfl qb has to display a passion that rubs off on your fellow team-mates. i don't believe henne and marshall have "that connection";at least it was evident in camp. tyler totally won the job in camp with limited reps. henne couldnt move the ball with anything down the field. it was all checkdowns ad nauseum. thats my take. oh i went to both bills games in buffalo in 09 and this year. we looked horrible on offense.

All the Phins players need to grow Sideburns and Afros, Mustaches and wear Bifocals.Just like Manny Fernandez, Garo Yupremien, Mercury Morris, Larry Czonka and Bob Greise?

It's the last time my beloved team won anything :(

Why not Ass!

GREG Z, very good point about passion and the connection w/marshall .

i wonder if the coaches see that .

Jimmy,

Your comparison is retarded. How can you fault Brass Monkeys?

You fail to mention that Thigpen was a starter and played every year of his 4 seasons, either as the starter or the backup playing for the injured starter.

Henne on the other hand has LESS than 1 seasons worth of experience as a starter. You can't honestly even call it one season as a starter because Last year he hardly even worked with the first teamers until week 4 of the season!!!!

If Thigpen has the "it" why can't he prove this to a coach and why hasn't he beat out Henne. Thigpen has had way more chances, experience and opportunities.

Henne is simply HEAD and SHOULDERS ahead of Thigpen and Pennington, not to mention a slew of others, at the same points in their careers.

I try not to make personal attacks here, but alot you people are showing some serious ignorance. Scratch that, ignorance would be compliment to alot you, it's F_cking retardation pure and simple.

You guys got spoiled by Marino's instant brilliance and know you're just a bunch of whinny little crybabies that won't give anyone a chance unless they're an immediate second coming of Marino.

Penny nor Thiggy can hold Henne's jock PERIOD, neither one of them were ANYWHERE NEAR as good as Henne is by their 18th starts.

Get a life you dimwits, this team has much more bigger and urgent problems!!!!

did the dolphins ever won any thing since 1778 ?

college is totally different. brian griese was good also at michigan, but look what he did in the nfl. not much.

Odin,

Exactly! I remember everyone melting down about Elway for the first 3 years.

The "hey don't turn the ball over, don't make a mistake crap" is in this kids head. Parcells game manager bullshi*.

Parcells always hated Marino when he commentated.

Oh no Rivers has 4 pics, better run more?

Go Phins!

ODIN, THESE PASE FAN WE HAVE THEY WANT A QB TO GET THEM A RING IN 2 YEARS .MOST PEOPLE INN HERE ARE BROWN DONKEYS .

LOOK AROUND AND SEE MOST QB'S TODAY THEY WORKED ON THEIR CRAFT FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS;

P.MANNING
DREW BREES
CUTLER
FLACCO
MAT RYAN IN HIS THIRD YEAR AND MATCHES W/HENNE'S NUMBERS.

HENNE............600,000
CROWDER......20 MILL
MARSHALL....50 MILL

henne is not good period. it wouldn't matter how many weapons he had on the team, he's not a leader, he is mediocre at best.

Marino was a interception machine? Never won anything? Griese didn't do much in the NFL?

Jeeze, I gotta get out of here before those fumes get to me too.

dolphin77............ what leader man ? you need time to become a f....kg leader .chad.p is a leader .he's in the league 13 years . 77 go grow some string beans .

henne won't even be around in 3 years. he will be daunte culpeppers back-up in the ufl.

Greg Z,

I respect your opinions and your football knowledge.

However, I have heard you say that Thiggy beat out Henne in camp one to many times.

Parcells, Sporano, Hennings and myself disagree with you. Thiggy is way farther along in his career and if he had the potential to be better than Henne it SHOULD BE SHOWING by now. It ain't! Thiggy still keeps making the big bone headed mistakes at crucial moments. If he could get the mental aspect of the game together, he might have a CHANCE at unseating Henne, but he hasn't yet and until he does I'm going with Parcells and Sporano's expertise.

cocajoe, if you going measure a QB by what he won ? then 99 percent of the QB'S are just players b/c they didn't win a ring .marino that is .

THIS GUY THIEGPEN ,he's in his 5 year in the league and still trying .last game he played he produced an interception after only 3 minutes in the game .

I hate string beans.

ok 77,what did you have for dinner tonight ? if it's hot dog or chinese to go don't answer .

Time off is underrated. It's good that players get lots of time off to rest.

Armando took 6 months off this offseason and he's been rested and writing good columns even since ;)

Damn, Odin. Had to post that twice, you're so mad? Look BrassMonkey said Henne's STATS were better than the other three. They are not. I was pointing that out.

However, I am no Henne supporter. I have been around football long enough in my life to know when a QB has what it takes. He does not. With regard to the coaches sticking with Henne because he is superior? They stick with him because they used a 2nd round pick for him and he is halfway good (unlike White for whom they also used a 2nd round pick but obviously was not even partially good). To bench Henne for either Pennington or Thigpen would be to admit that they were wrong, AGAIN. So, as long as he is not completely stinking up the joint (well, he did on Monday), they will keep him in there.

Let's see who's right by the end of this season. If I am wrong I will bow down to the almighty Norse God and kiss his feet publicly. And I will be happy that we have a star QB.

jimmy,

you sound like you know...you are saying sparano doesn't want to win but HE wants to make sure he doesn't look WRONG even if he gets FIRED. I HOPE YOU R NOT A TEACHER .

Dolphin77,

If that's how you really feel and you're not just trolling............

TOO BAD!!!! Ha Ha Ha, Henne is da Starter baby, get used to it, growing pains and all.

Henne! Henne! Henne! Henne!

I'm rooting for this kid and my Miami Dolphins REGARDLESS!!!!

I know, I know, it sucks so bad waiting for this kid to get a seasons worth of experience as starter Wahhhhhhhhh! WaHHhhhhhhh!

WTF? Do you guys even think about what you post. You ain't no Miami Dolphins fans. Ya'll perpatrating this BS are fair weather Posers.

We all know how long it took the Mannings and the Brees and the Farves yet you dumbf -cks don't even want to give Henne a SEASON!

Go cry to your Momma's with that retarded bullsheet. Henne! Henne! Henne! Henne!

You get that, huh?

odin, GREAT POST @ 8;26

write some lyrics you love for us to enjoy reflecting on the current fins .

Aloco, an elite QB can carry a mediocre team and win a lot of games. Marino was one of them. But he can win them all by himself. Even Marino couldn't do that and he was the greatest ever.

GREATEST EVER MY RUMB ROAST .he was great QB and that's all .brady is the greatest ever w/montana then comes mr marino .

BTW, I've noticed your Marino slurs before, what's up with that? Did he run over your puppy dog when you were little?

cocoajoe, did i use any slurs ? none ...i don't like to be on marino's wagon ,it's full already .he was great .that's it .

Think Cuban was right about the inhalants. Once you kill brain cells, they don't grow back. You do know that, right?

Just jerking your chain Aloco

inhalants ? could be it .still i am who i am .lol

peace to you cocoajoe ,i love to read you posts .

Besides, the issue is Henne. And to paraphrase you: To be or not to be, that IS the question

Thanks Aloco...all in good fun

I WONDER what PAT WHITE DID W/ALL THAT GUARANTEED MONEY HE GOT FROM THE DOLPHINS ? 2 MILL

I WONDER what grover did w/ all that guaranteed money he got from the dolphins ? 14 MILLION ...............

I don't know but this bunch has spent it like monopoly money on has beens and never will be's

Jimmy,

Yeah, so I went a little overboard, my bad.

The point is, this team appears to be in shambles.

The constant shuffling of the O-line has apparently affected the run game. Brown's dancing and Williams is fumbling.

We're in flux because of the youth movement and the learning curve is falling behind.

The defense is a complete mystery. It shows flashes of brilliance then fails to show up at all.

Special teams I don't even have to comment on, we all know the score.

The one constant so far this season, the only consistant bright spot, if you can call it that, has been the development of Henne.

As sad as this may sound to you guys, Henne, Marshall and Bess are combining to form the one and only bright spot this team has had so far this year.

Benching Henne at this point would be tantamount to throwing in the towel on the season. If we do that, we might as well clean house, bring in a new GM and start the rebuilding process all over AGAIN!

If I'm wrong, somebody please correct me. These past two weeks have been nothing short of trumatic and I could be suffeing from denial and grasping at straws. If I am, please somebody pick a player, a unit, an ANYTHING that this team has that's been better than Henne, Marshall and Bess.

Aloco,

To inhale or to not inhale the inhalants?

---**-----**-----** MARINO **-----**-----**---

The BEST there IS!

The BEST there ever WAS!

The BEST there ever WILL BE!

Odin - I don't think you are so wrong (I tend to be a bit absolute when I state my opinions). >>. You sure are right about inconsistency (shuffling). We can disagree about Henne, but I think it is moot, really as he is not going to be benched, no matter the hue and cry from some of us fans.

I think the Defense is having a hard time because of Odrick's injury. Sounds silly, but it resulted in moving Starks outside (I was not a supporter of moving him inside because he was our best DE last year - but he is definitively the best at the NT position on this team and leaps and bounds ahead of Soliai) and creating a porous middle. Karlos Dansby is one man - take him out and the LB corps, as it stands, is a sieve. Wake has a hell of a motor.

I think I can't really pick a unit to have hope in right now (is anyone else tired of this team taking until the fourth or fifth game of a season to gel?) - maybe in a few games - but I can pick a few players: Wake, Vontae, Dansby, Bess, Long (2nd tier: Marshall, Ricky - he's my favorite player of all time so I can't get down on him and he had a nice game against NE - Incognito is mean and I dig that).

I'm with you on the rebuilding again. But, if these guys don't get it together, we might well be looking at that. The good thing is that the good players are very good and form a decent nucleus that any incoming regime would likely want to keep around. The questionable thing is if this FO and coaching staff can do anything with what they've got?

i feel your pain ODIN POST@ 8;57 .

AS FOR MARINO FROM NOW ON ,ON YOUR HONOR AND THAT OF COCOAJOE I WILL STOP THE MARINO THING AND FOLLOW ,

MARINO THE BEST THERE IS
THE BEST THERE EVER WAS
THE BEST THERE EVER WILL BE

GO FINS

From PFT:

Report: Pats, Chargers talking Vincent Jackson trade

Uh-Oh. Sounds like Ireland maybe should get the checkbook and pick list out???

Stirring the pot, gentlemen. Just stirring.

Here's an idea:

Why don't we stop play "Not To Lose" the game AND actually start playing "TO WIN THE GAME"?

Penington started 0-3 and i would put 2 of those losses on Henning and Defense last year. He looks healthy and is a game manager something that could help. I'm not saying bench him for good just saying make him realize if he keeps making those mistakes we still have a viable option at QB with Pennington

Yep, i heard the same thing...i would bet that Vin Jackson is going to NE for sure..Belacheat wouldnt get rid of Moss this early in the season if he didnt already have a plan in place

I would like to respond to BrassMonkey's assertion that "INT #3 was Marshall's fault..."

It was?

Was that how the announcer claimed he saw it?

If I remember correctly, both Marshall and the player in coverage were side by side and Henne through the ball directly into his opponent's hands.

But if I am somehow mistaken, then it's also Marshall's fault that Henne has been avoiding him all season long (exception being the Jets game).

The single best weapon Miami has right now is Brandon Marshall and it's Henne's fault for ignoring him. If there's an excuse for it, I'd certainly like to hear it.
