Sparano: Special teams players got better Mon.

Did you read the headline? Did you throw up?

Relax. Work with me, here, please.

Coach Tony Sparano just spoke to the media today and noted that in a game where the Miami special teams imploded -- allowing a 103-yard kickoff return, a field goal block returned for a touchdown, and a blocked punt that led to a touchdown -- there were parts of the special teams play that showed improvement from previous weeks and actually looked good.

Here's exactly how he stated the case:

"The hard thing, and I'm going to answer this question as honest as I can to answer it," Sparano said. "Tell me the return that came out there other than the big one? Tell me where we didn't ... "

His voice trailed off, before he picked up with a new thought ...

"So when I'm watching this film here the other night, am I pissed off? Sure," he said. "Obviously I'm pissed off. We can't cost ourselves points. We just can't do that. And we did.

"But when you break it down and take the three plays out of that tape, and you can't, they're part of the game, they change the game, no question about it. But when you do it and you take those plays out and start to watch the rest of the game, there were some really positive things done in that game.

"Guys like Nolan Carroll got better in that game. Reshad Jones got better in that game. Nobody said one word to me about Austin Spitler who played 14, 15 plays on special teams for the first time and played pretty darn good in that game. Well, you're going to say, 'Coach, how can they all play good?' There were three plays in the game, all in different phases and at different times in the game. That's not an excuse, but I just think they're fixable. And I trust the people in that room to fix them."

Obviously, Sparano trusts the new people in the room to fix the problem because he fired special teams coordinator John Bonamego on Tuesday. But all this suggests Sparano expects the players that are in the room, or at least some of them, are getting better.

He is, indeed, an glass-half-full person.

odin you cant think of anything to say but that mush pile of ramblings? Go back to your community college before i tell your mom to take you off her cell plan. We are on vacation in NY for the Monday night game in the beautiful Meadowlands. There is no baseball field there. You had better have the house clean when we get home or your losing xbox indefinatly.

Look for the Patriots to steal the Jets lunch money and bang their little sisters before the season is over.

My X-Box? Oh no, PLEASE Lageman not that.

Wait what am I worried about. You'll forget all about it when ANOTHER great QB you guys let get away stomps your a s s e s on Monday night.

PS: Now that Moss is in Minny ask REAMIS if he's going to fake a hammy BEFORE the game or right AFTER Moss toast him just like last time.

PSS: Now that I mentioned REAMIS, it's too bad Davis took his place as the best shutdown corner in the NFL. Moss couldn't even get catch against him this time, let alone a TD. REAMIS WHO?

You know why I didnt care about Pennington, becasue he gets you to 10-6 and a first round boot, reguardless you have to listen to me talk all the way through Dallas....that wont be so funny and im sure you wont take it like a man

Yea DAVIS IS GREAT HA!!! WHY THROW TOWARDS A GOOD CORNER (WHICH HE IS,GOOD NOT GREAT) WHEN YOU CAN THROW AT JASON ALLEN!!! TALK ABOUT A WALK IN THE PARK!!!! ALLEN HAD A SALES 2 FOR 1 ON TOUCHDOWNS SCRUB

Yeah Yeah, blow me come breath.

You have to be a complete degenerate loser to go on another teams blog, and brag about the copius amounts of man spunk that you swallow. Don't you have something better to do like offer children candy, or tend to the sheep? Oh, yeah I forgot you probably have a restraining order that does not allow you within city limits of the elementary school, or for that matter the barnyard. What makes fans like you tick? The underwear section of the Sears Catalog? What's your idea of a good time, taking down a twelve pack of mountain dew while dressed up as little orphan annie? Laser Tag?

Go Vikings!

Kinda wish we could have gotten Marshawn Lynch.
Just lookin' to kick start the running game that's all.

Ah what the hell, our coaches couldn't figure out how to use him anyway.

I guarantee we won't lose this week :-D

I find it quite amusing to read the comments by people who understand so little about the game. Sparano is spinning the game as positive as possible so as not to lose his team. He has no choice. He knows what happened. He knows there is no good excuse for it. He also knows he is accountable. Most importantly, he knows his team is 2-2. He can't quit on them. He has little choice at the moment as his back and his teams back is against the wall. He is doing what he can do to hope they come out fighting for him and clawing back to respectability.

Let the coach spin it anyway he feels best. We all saw the meltdown as did millions on TV. What matters most is how his team responds to the adversity.

I refuse to give up on a 2 and 2 squad. Losing two straight at home, to division rivals no less, obviously heightens the task. But, the last week's game was winnable and the problems that led to Monday night's admitted embarassment, although disasterous were fixable. Last year, the Jets were all but through until Jim Caldwell gave them new life. To their credit, they had improved by year's end and made just about the most of the post-season berth that Caldwell bestowed upon them. They're a very good team and have very good QB in Sanchez (despite the phony ragging). Props. But, so too, do the Fish have talent and young talent at that, including Henne at QB. KEEP MOVING YOUR LEGS, KEEP IMPROVING AND DON'T LOOK BACK. That's how champions get made. (Polite better start looking at film of Matthews.)

Dolphins have been "getting better every week" since 1985...... which means..... the same old boring mediocre team..... GET REAL TALENT ON THE FIELD......!!! not just one or two guys.... you need a lot more to be successful ....... CAN YOU SAY VINCENT JACKSON!!!!!!!!!

I like his spunk ala/ singeltary who is going thru hard times and tough losses. we are not there yet.

That said. unless we make a marked improvement regardless of the tough upcoming schedule, he is under the guillotine.

YOUR PIECE ABOUT THE PATS HAD SO MUCH PASSION IN IT.

WHY DON'T YOU WRITE ABOUT THE FINS WITH THAT SAME PASSION.

IT'S FUNNY HOW YOU CAN TAKE ANYTHING THE PATS DO AND TURN IT INTO SOMETHING GREAT.

HOWEVER ANYTHING THE FINS DO YOU're LIKE BLAH.

ARE YOU A PATS FAN?

ARE YOU A SPY?

I KNOW THE PATS ARE CHEATERS SO IT WOULDN't BE AMAZING IF THEY PAID YOU TO TELL THEM WHAT YOU SEE AT PRACTICE.

SOMETHING's NOT RIGHT WITH YOU.

If Nolan Carrol and Chaning Crowder have a baby together they will name it Carrol Chaning!

Go Phins!

***************ALERT**************

The Miami Dolphins have hired Garo Yeprimian to shore up the teams latest Special Teams debacle. He has vast experience in running and fumbling botched snaps.

Go Phins!

Anyone notice Mark Sanchez looks just like Focker's Lovechild from Meet the Focker's?

You know Ben Stiller's son with the dark curley hair and the unibrow. Born of the Sultry Latin Nanny/Housekeeper? Heh? Anyone remember that? It's him Sanchez looks like Focker's kid?

Go Phins

Guys,

the season is still young and the Dolphins are not out of it yet.
The next stretch of games will determine our season.

If we can do the following aginst the tough upcoming teams;

Packers W
Steelers W
Bengals W
Ravens L
Titans W

then we have a shot but we have to play a good game on Offence / Defence and Special teams to have a shot.

I think we have not seen the best of this Dolphins team yet and now is the time to prove it after that debacle on Monday night.

If we can go 4-1 or 3-2 we can still have a shot at the play-offs.

Let's take each game at a time Fins.

He would say that the mushroom cloud of a nuclear explosion is beautifully shaped. If those quotes are TS' thoughts, I give you a desperate man lost in the destruction not knowing where to begin cleanup. He's walking through the remaining debris and finding shiny things that survived.

Utube Barry Sanders Jr., amazing..

I know its not phins related but still cool to watch.

Jay
there is a very real chance that the Fins go winless in the games you mentioned. This is not a good team. they still have no playmakers on D besides Davis. anyone that says differently is an apologist for this team. they still dont have any real team speed anywhere on roster, hence the special teams meltdown. lastly, they have no team depth at all. If any of the "core" guys get hurt, ala Crowder, they are in for a tough road because tjere is nobody to replace them. In short, another 7-9, 8-8 year....If we are lucky!!

Morning Dolfans

Watcha Got !?

new post game coach talk

"I know we lost by like 30 points, but if you take away a half dozen bonehead plays or so ...
man we have one Hell of a football team

Tony from New Haven

Take away the 3 Ints and the loss and Henne played way better than Brady

Tony from New Haven

Cowkilla, Cuban, Aloco,

Saw the post....i got frustrated last night because we have to sit with this bad taste in our mouths for 2 SUndays and it doesn't get any easier. I like to believe that I am one of the most loyal FIN fans, but green bay would be tough to beat if we were playing our best ball. EARTHWAKE needs help, and what happened to our blitz packages, did Nolan lose his balls. We start off the season blitzing the hell out of buffallo, dial it back agains MIN and then it has dissapeared totally the last 2 weeks.

Tony and crew must be having nightmares about how to not lose 3 in a row, and i don't blame them.

They did it to themselves and the packers know were wounded and will look to kump all over us early to kill our spirit and see if we fold.

Forget the jets and pats...this game against green bay is the most crucial since our playoff ass kicking to the ravens a few years back.

The pressure is on everybody from the GM on down to the last player on the practice squad.

If Ross blows this thing up and brings in new people it only sets us back even futher, that is why it is so important we support our leadership.

If it satisfies the masses then lets bring in a new OC next year, but that is the only change we should take...a young guy who Henne can relate to and brings an uptempo style of play to match our "D".

why not us......

(will remain in small print until we win)

What kind of comment is Sparano laying on us ,if you take away those 3 plays, give me a break ,if I could have made 3 more putts and not shanked my ball in the water I could have shot 70.You are what you are a mediocore football team, with a Peter pan coaching staff, that we are stuck with for the rest of the yr,Thank god hockey is here for us canadians.

This is a totally serious question: is there anyone out there that doesnt see a double digit loss at GB? if so, explain how!??

Miami Dolphins may actually WIN in Wisconsin
Cuz
They know they suck and will play the game
(for those that don`t know , yes it is only a silly little play time game and has no relevance on anything what so ever) loose and back yard football style

This will help tremendously with the chemistry between Miami Dolphin players

***** The Dynasty Be Fins! *****

Henne is a young Qb and Belicheat fooled him twice(not good), but it wasn't enough to win the game. The special teams gaffs were well timed enough and momentum shifting enough to do us in. The pats aren't 30pts better than us despite the score. We will rebound and look more like the team that played minnesota when we play GB. The season still isn't over yet and we can still make the playoffs.

jrljr2.....

The formula for success is written and it works....RUN THE BALL, 35TIMES, THROW IT LESS THAN 20 TIMES AND PLAY BEND BUT DON'T BREAK DEFENSE.

Its how we beat the bills, its how we beat MIN, and its how we will beat the packers.

Many of us on here whined and complained about how inept and anemic our offense looked in 2 staight wins on the road to open the season.

Well, 670 passing yards and 2 straight home defeats later they will dial it back, they will dial Henne back and get back to what works....Wildcat with Brown and Williams, One deep pass early in the game to satisfy Marshal and keep his head in the game, and 35-40 runs.

Sounds boring but it equals road win

why not us....

has sparano lost his mind?? Take the 3 plays out and ST played great??
That's the main problem tony. We can't take those out you thinking there is nothign wrong is the problem. All it takes is 1 bad play that makes a difference between winning and losing in this league. Do you know how many coaches have lost eheir jobs because of 1 play? not 3.

Forget having the referees call anything against pretty boy Tom's team. I lve up here in NE and the same S%%^T happens every game with them it is disgusting. The NFL completely wants that team to succeed. I can't stand watching them it makes me sick they never hold anything.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Home....

how many personalities do you have inside of you?

I love listening to you guys cry....Woody Johnson (owns Johnson and Johnson) can supply you with tissues for daysssss

we knew what we had in parcells;he has proven himself over the years. my problem is with ireland and sparano who haven't proven anything. ireland's made alot of mistakes in free agency and totally whiffed on several draft picks. neither one speaks to the fan base with any truthfulness. i think their support base is eroding fast. we really need someone to lead us. and fast! our roster churn has really hurt our special teams!!!!!

Kris, your offensive strategy sounds good, except then why did you pay 50 mil for one of the best WR in the league? That's a pretty expensive proposition to be a decoy. Problem with your theory, is there's no room for error in that type of offense (see Pats, see Baltimore, see Pittsburgh). Yeah, if you're defense is very, very stout, then you might, and I stress, might, make it to the Playoffs and even maybe get lucky and win a SuperBowl. But this is a copycat league. And offenses are starting to air it out more and more, and put up big points. And in order to keep up with the Patriots, Colts, Saints, etc. you need to put up big points too (or have an elite defense).

We do not have an elite defense (yet). And since we've been trying since the Trifecta has gotten here and haven't succeeded yet, but we DO have a top WR, I think we're closer to becoming an elite offense before we are an elite defense. Actually, we're one player away from being an elite offense (that's the QB). If we had gotten Drew Brees instead of Culpepper, I suggest we'd have made it to the post-season before now (and definitely this year with Marshall). So, I disagree with you. I think we need to air the ball out MORE, get Henne MORE in tuned with making the right read for defenses. Henning won't be here forever, and I predict the next OC will be more up-to-date with today's offenses. Therefore, your strategy will simply be putting off the obvious, we need to be a MORE DYNAMIC OFFENSE. That means better WR formations, more spread, we should be playing the Pats-style offense (we have exactly their weapons, a good line, an elite WR and a terrific slot receiver). In addition, we have better RBs than them. I'm not saying don't ever run, but this run-first style offense we've played since Dan Marino left has gotten us where? How many Playoff appearances? How many SuperBowls. Henne needs to be coached up to be an effective QB, or else we need to trade/draft another QB that can play the position we need them to play, but we need to EVOLVE as an offense, not keep trying to be the same rinky-dink offense that has put us time and again in the middle of the pack in the NFL. I'd rather go 1-15 TRYING to be elite than be 8-8 every year because we're out-of-date in offensive schemes.

Some know-nothing writer writes it and all of you guys drink the kool-aid. who was talking about the "churn" at the bottom of the roster before it was written in the Herald TUESDAY. NOBODY/NADA/ZERO PEOPLE that who. Now ALL the Monday moring Coaches just regurgitate what they have read. No wonder Home call you guys SHEEP.

Speacial Teams is about desire and will, not continuity. Its not the O-LINE. Its a bunch of bottom of the barrel players who's main job is to keep the STARTERS from being hurt on those high impact collisions.

MAKE A TACKLE, BLOCK THE DUDE IN FRONT OF YOU, THATS SPECIAL TEAMS MEN...PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Yes there is razamatazz and setting up wall, but the end game of SPECIAL TEAMS is to get the punt off, block for a field goal and return punts and kickoffs as well as tackle the ball carrier.

Yes we fired the coach. It was symbolic, it had to happen. but don't regurgitate this "churn" the bottom of the roster stuff.

Have an orginal thought guys.

why not us......

DC, WHY WE PAID 50 MILLION FOR GUY WHO WE DON'T HAVE THE QB TO DELIVER THE FOOTBALL TO ?

why not us......

DC,

Valid points. But i think the fact that Henne has thrown 4 pick in the last 2 games makes me think that we will go back to what we know works.

They tried to open it up for Henne. Henning called pass plays in hopes that Henne would show progress like the sanchees has done. It didn't happen. Last year us and the jets were mirror images, twin brothers if you will...now it feels likethey are the big brother after the 1st quarter of the season. By the fourth quarter i hope we will have matured enough to be thier DADDY.

We will see.

Got some running around to do....will address the other poins later.

why not us.....

Big brother, come on Kris. have some more faith. The Jets got some breaks you would think wouldn't be there every week. Jason Allen forget to put cleats in his shoes on one play and our team forgot how to punt on another.

Oh well, it is part of the game and didn't really deserve to win but if we just perform the basic fundamentals of tackling and punting, they don't win. We gave that game away, the jets didn't take it from us.

mark, very good points .

Hey Jaymesh, Do you really think this team can beat the Packers in Green Bay??? REALLY??? Quit drinking your bong water buddy. The last time the Dolphins beat the Packers it was at County Staidum where Dan Marino lit up the Pack. I know as I was there! Oh guess what....we no longer have Dan Marino.

thank you ALoco, how's the world treating you today, brother?

i may say beautiful ,so far .oil is down 58.i hope will close down 2 dollars .

hahah, all commodities down today, not very happy about that. oh well, it had to take a breather sooner or later. my best trade right now is short MFC. working beautifully. shorted CSCO and got burnt for a few points. covered it today. that sucked.

this weekend is thanksgiving in canada. looking forward to some family time. also going to the maple leaf game on saturday night. that's a hot ticket around here. $420 is the face value on 2 tix. got them at a cancer benefit auction so it was for a good cause.

nick barnett is now out for the year for the packers. big loss for them. with all their injuries, they look very similar to the pats. awesome passing attack but can be had because they are looking one dimensional. let's how we play well fundamentally and we can come out on top. let's also hope some of our injured players can come back.

Hey guys

I havent posted in a long time, but i still lurk quite often. I will be attending the Packer game with my brother who is a Packer fan. Should be fun....i hope!
My point is: right now I have the same feeling I had after attending to Dolphins-Cardinals game last year(when we were blown out). Then the next week we unleashed the wildcat and destroyed the Patsies...
I'm hoping the same thing happens this year. We just got humiliated and so now what? Will we create some sort of wrinkle that sparks something? I really dont know. But I do believe we are going to show up and play for some respect. I'm not calling a big win for us, but optimistically speaking, we take this game on the road.

Two positives from Patsies game:
Cameron Wake (beast)
Ricky Williams(ran with a point to prove)
