The world today according to Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall is the most compelling interview on the Dolphins right now because he's smart, he's not afraid to tell you what he thinks, he's sometimes controversial without being venomnous, he's honest, and that all comes wrapped in a package of a player that is a star.

So when Marshall speaks to the local media about once a week for perhaps 10 minutes, it isn't nearly enough time to get to understand the guy or get to know the guy. But it is enough time to be interested by the guy.

Today Brandon Marshall was interesting. But you be the judge:

He was asked about teammate and fellow wide receiver Davone Bess.

"He's one of the best route runners in all of football, ever," Marshall said. "I mean, among today's receivers or ever. You put in any tape and this guy's amazing what he's able to make his body do. He gets open almost every single play. You guys have seen him more than me. You've been around him more. The guy doesn't catch 70-something balls last year just because. There's a reason for that. He's on pace to catch almost 100 balls this year. And I'm excited for him. I'm excited to be able to be on the other side or the same side as him."

Marshall was on the CBS Sports pregame show last weekend. During the time he was there he gushed about cornerback Vontae Davis. Marshall called Davis the best cornerback in the game.

"They asked me who is the best DB in the NFL right now and the NFL is what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league and Vontae Davis is a shutdown corner right now," Marshall said. "Now you have [Darrelle] Revis who's played spottingly [sic] this year so I wouldn't say he's the best right now. You have Champ Bailey who's a little banged up and a little older. He's still great. The league is getting younger. And Vontae is that guy."

Marshall knows that Davis avoids attention.

"He doesn't like it. He doesn't like the attention," Davis said. "But I'm going to answer the questions truthfully. I don't care if I put a target on his back or not. It is what it is and I expect him to step up every week the way he's been doing."

Marshall was asked if he has changed his pregame routine since offensive coordinator Dan Henning said Marshall gets overly excited before the game and that it could wear him out for the end of the game.

"I don't know why coach Henning said that," Marshall said. "I've never been overworked or overworked myself before a game. I usually take less reps before the game and try to stay calm before the storm comes. I get excited, but I never get overworked up. I'm going to continue to do the same thing I've been doing the past couple of years."

The last time we heard from Marshall was when Sterling Sharpe, Mike Mayock, and Solomon Wilcots took the wide receiver to taks for not giving for effort on the final set of downs in the game versus New York. Marshall disagreed with the trio and said none of them coached so they shouldn't be trying to provide coaching advice and none of them were very good player, either, in their day.

And then Marshall was on set was Sterling Sharpe's brother, Shannon, on the CBS set.

"I was on the set with his brother and everything was kind of smooth," Marshall said. "I was kind of nervous at first because Shannon is so big and in-shape still that I thought he was going to put me in a headlock in between segments. I hate to do this but I have to retract my statement. Sterling Sharpe was a beast. He was pretty good in his day and if he had an opportunity to stay healthy, he would be a Hall of Famer, no doubt about it. The other guys, I'm not sure."

DD, I was thinking the same thing last week when I saw Lex and Cobbs on ST. I was like, "there they are!" Cobbs doesn't look like he's fully 100% after last year's injury, so maybe that's why their not using him, but not sure why Lex hasn't been used more. I guess with Ronnie/Ricky and Polite, there's not much room for anyone else. But Lex is a good blocker, and could be a diversionary guy too (to open holes for others, maybe a Wildcat trick). Like Mark said though, this coaching staff doesn't think outside the box.

ONCE UPONE A TIME ,THERE WERE THE CLE BROWNS ,;;;;;

ON the day of the draft of 2008 they decided to GIVE THE JETS THEIR 5th DRAFT PICK OVER ALL .........MARK SANCHEZ AND SINCE THAT day BROWN WHO SEARCHING FOR QB TODAY HAVE NIGHTMARES EVERY NIGHT .

COACH TO be FIRED FOR SURE.....MANCINI who get ready of chad.p earlier .

Daryl,

that is some out of the box thinking...we bring 4 RBs to every game but only 2 play.

Has Henne even looked in wallace's direction. i doubt he even knows he's in the game since we probably don't have any plays drawn up were Wallace is the 1st option.....

i like the way u think Daryl.....think u can get that to Sporano

Aloco, the Browns messed the bed in that draft. Started with the 5th pick, traded down twice, ended up with almost nothing in return and drafted a centre with their first pick. If the local administration did the same, this blog with be alive with a tonnage of complaints.

ALoco, you CAN'T be saying Mark Sanchez is some kind of "find." C'mon dude. He's in a good streak now, but that doesn't mean he's anywhere near a good or even great QB in the NFL. The jury is still out with Sanchez. And do you really think if Cleveland drafted him they'd be winning. Trust me, they'd stink just as much as they do now. Sanchez is only doing well because of who's around him, not because OF him.

You're way off-base on that one man. I'd rather have Henne than Sanchez any day. Sanchez sucks (and not just because he's a Jet, he sucked at USC too).

Russell was the #1 pick OVERALL. And he was a bust. That's way worse than trading for Sanchez.

Agreed DC, Sanchez hasn't showed us anythingn yet other than being a young Trent Dilfer. Henne on the other hand has thrown for a handful of 300 yard games. Sanchez, not even the one.

Looking forward to the big fish fry this sunday.

Man the Fish OC is a complete douche. Complaining about your best offensive weapon getting over worked before the game. You are a moron. Running the Wildcrap when your offense is in sync on 3 & 6. You are a moron. Throwing to B Marsh once in an entire half. Once again you are a moron.

... and Sparano the fist pumper is a moron for having him around.

dc,let's be clear;

1- sanchez has no interception so far this year
2-jets became an elite team in 2 year due to sanchez and coaching
3-the browns have made a major BLUNDER IN 2008 AS MARK STATED .
4-THE EFFECTS OF THAT BLUNDER IS WAY MORE THAN RUSSELL.

GUYS IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW...JETS BEST RECORD IN THE NFL AND THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN BY ACCEDENT .

Sanchez - 20 career INT
Henne - 18

So Henne has thrown for more yards per game and fewer pics. Hmmm, you'd never know

ALoco, the Russell blunder is still worse, much worse

MARK, YOU CAN'T LOOK AT IT THAT WAY ,YOU HAVE TO THINK STANDING IN THE DIVISION .

NO MARK, THINK ABOUT SANCHEZ IN CLE ,THE EFFECT WOULD MAJOR ,TO BRING A TEAM FROM THE DEAD LAST 300 YEARS BUY RUSSLL HE GOT SOME AND LEFT LIKE GROVE .

BUT RUSSELL he got some money and left like grove

Sanchez is better than Henne. No question. At this point in time.

i am out for few hours .

ALoco, if Miami still had last year's interior offensive line, they would have at least one more win. The player personnel decisions at the professional level have been baffling at best this year. It's an uncapped year. You trade Smiley and cut Grove because at some point, you have a hunch they will get hurt. Well, why not play them until they get hurt and then release them. You still ahve those backups anyway. Why so hasty???

And surprise surprise the Dolphins can't stop the run with Odrick and MCDaniel out. Hmm, maybe Marques Douglas would've helped there.

The management of this team since Parcells appeared to become disinterested has been atrocious. it concerns me way more than anything else that effects this club's performance.

Sanchez would have got smoked in Cleveland.

And whoever scouted and recommended Tim Dobbins should be shot in the face.

Henne's record as an NFL starter 9-9 with zero playoff appearances because he and the rest of the team were complete crap in the month of December finishing with THREE straight losses.

Sanchez 13-8 as a starter in regular season competition and 2-1 in the playoffs with an AFC championship berth. Sanchez, unlike Henne is not turning the ball over anymore. Henne has been a turnover machine since last December and that is why he is 3-5 in his last eight starts.

You can add another playoff appearance to the Sanchez resume and likely some more wins. Two years from now no one will be talking about Henne in Miami because you will have moved on to the next post Marino era bust and the next post Shula era fraud.

Tim Dobbins is another scrub this sorry "regime" brought in.

SCRUBS AND BUMS. THIS TEAM SUCKS.

A couple of solid position players and a bunch of weak links.

Hahaha, AFC Championship berth. What do you get for that???

I guess when you only play in 2 in 40 years, it's a big deal. LOSERS!

Let's analyze all the typos and grammatical errors in this paragraph:

"The last time we heard from Marshall was when Sterling Sharpe, Mike Mayock, and Solomon Wilcots took the wide receiver to taks for not giving for effort on the final set of downs in the game versus New York. Marshall disagreed with the trio and said none of them coached so they shouldn't be trying to provide coaching advice and none of them were very good player, either, in their day."

1) "was when" is improper. The language should be "occurred when."

2) "took the wide receiver to taks" - Of course, the final word should be "task."

3) "for not giving for effort" - Of course, this should read "FULL effort."

4) "and none of them were very good player, either, in their day." - "Player" needs to be pluralized, and "their day" should read "his day" since "his," singular," agrees with "none" (i.e. not one), which is also singular.

I provide these criticisms not to lambaste, but to educate.

Now, on to a few observations.

1) Yes, Josh Gibson was an extraordinary slugger in the Negro Leagues. (Called "The black Babe Ruth," you could make an argument that The Babe should have been called "the white Josh Gibson.) Nevertheless, it is misleading when we hear that Gibson hit 84 home runs in one year. One must remember that Negro League teams only played about 40-60 regular season games against other Negro League competition. The remaining games were played against semi-pro teams, etc. When you extrapolate Gibson's home run numbers against Negro League competition over a 154 game season, his home run feats are impressive, but not colossal.

2) I think Sally Struthers looked sexiest in the following episodes of "All In The Family":

i) The two-parter when The Lorenzos move in next door. She wears a bikini in the second part. She was - oh God - she was wonderful.

ii) The episode where Meathead wants to make love to her while she wears a black wig.

iii) The episode where she and Meathead fight because he doesn't like how strong she is coming on sexually. (What a Meathead! That's every man's fantasy!!! - to be seduced by a sexpot.)

So Sally got fat. So what. I'll always have the memory of her glorious days.

Nathaniel ... AWESOME

Yes the failures of the latest post Shula regime are many:

-Wilford
-E Green
-G Wilson
-Handling of J Porter and J Taylor
-J Smiley
-J Grove
-2009 draft especially P White and P Turner
-Parcells leaving the team days before the regular season
-Ireland's probing re Bryant's mom
-6 or 7 players charged this year for various criminal acts

If Saban had committed half these blunders you guys would still be talking about them. But alas, it was the great Parcell's (who hasn't won a thing since the early 90s) so the entire crew got a pass.

holy christ man!! I just looked up Sally Struthers..what a hog!!!!!!!

did she play for the Redskins that year they were called the hogs?

yet, with all these blunders, Parcells' Miami team is still 3-2 against the Jets despite starting as a 1-15 team.

Where would the drafting of Vernon Gholston finish on that list of blunders. Probably #1.

The jets have done a much better job at protecting snachez(not blocking, but by understnding his strengths, and weeknesses) They know what he is, and play call accordingly. They haven't asked snachez to have to have games where he has to throw for 300 yrd because they understand that does not play to their strenghts, it would play into the defensive teams hands because, much like Henne, he would eventually make a big mistake. The jets only ask snachez to make a few gig throws each gamebecause they realize that right now that is all he can handle(think about the clock manegment at the end of the game v Minn, and how after a nice 32nd down completion for a first down, he almost blew it w/ 2 innacurrate passes on he next set of downs)Henne has all the ability in the world, but with those big passing numbers come big mistakes, untill he can learn to take care of the ball, he needs to go back to game manager mode, ala the first two weeks.

Sorry about the poor spelling I ment strengths.
A nice 2nd down completion, not 32nd
and they ask snachez to make afe big throws not gig throws?????

Darryl

Condense that shiz man. a couple of sentences would be nice. not what ammounts to a 500 word run-on sentence.

Thanks

SALLY STRUTHERS JUST PROVED WHY WOMEN ARE SO HUNG UP ON GETTING MARRIED YOUNG.

THEIR BODIES AGE ABOUT AS WELL AS WARM MILK... EWWW

Home also said I would be awesome and look at me now. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Redshirt,

"big girls need love too"

- Kevin Nash

Sorry RC, get a little fired up around game time! That was bad!

Chad Henne is our future!!

the mega millions is my future!!

Sally Struthers isn't big.

A whale is big.

The Empire State Building is big.

Sally is ENORMOUS. HUGE. RUDUNDANT MASS OF PROTOPLASM.

REDUNDANT that is.

Aaron Rodgers practiced, and he's playing. So those of you (like me) who were excited a couple days ago of seeing QB Matt Flynn will have to get over it, and those who said they wanted to play against Green Bay's best will get their wish. No word on Matthews yet.

I hope the team is taking this game seriously.

DC, Rodgers will be foggy

as a fin fan i really hope rodgers plays. we need to beat these good teams to judge where we're at as a team. man-up;bring on the tough teams. it will make us better while showing both our strengths and weaknesses. my feeling is we have to come together as a team at some point. it looked like we "quit" against the pats.

Exactly Greg, if we are going to be a good team, then let's make it by beating teams at their best.

Not like the 2008 team that had a paper schedule or last year's jets team who only made the playoffs because Indy pulled Peyton.

I don't want anyone to give us anything, let's take it!

DC....i like ur post and attention to football detail....there is no question u aee a passionate FIN fan....but

you gotta want to see your tean play the competition at uts best....otherwise how do you measure true progress?

WHY NOT US!!!!!!!

stuiped app makes me seem like somebody's twin.

We don't need to worry about skin color on the football field, we need to worry about heart and attitude and winning, that's all!

That's a Beautiful thing Brother!

Apply that too life in general and you got 'er made.

(and THAT's coming from a Cracker A s s Half Breed Indian!!!!).

If Rogers is playing after a concussion, then he'll need extra paddings on his head. I would be very nervous with Wake rushing in full speed like a freight train.

Please Mr. Wake, be gentle with him. He's not right and has no idea what's in store for him. :-)

Rodgers gonna get...

A WAKE UP CALL.

Odin, I thought you were Scandinavian???

Brady got dissed by Justin Bieber. That's low.

Before Dolphin4Life started "playing cards", I was agreeing with him totally.

We should see the Miami Dolphins at their best at least psychologically.

Two prime time enbarrassments and their backs against the wall by being 2-2.

They do have something to prove and I'm predicting they'll play like it.

Win, lose or draw, we'll see a team at it's best in Green Bay this weekend. Hopefully it'll be the Fins.

Mark,

I'm Norwegian and Apache.

I'm a halfbreed but the percentages vary pending the time of day.

By last call I'm pretty much full blown Apache!

Odinseye drank the kool aid and is drifting off..

who is odin?

and whats with his eye?

lost right now

THAT WAS KOOL-AID!?!?

Oh, well then, that explains th.........zzzzZZZZZZZ....................

Dan Marino has 420 Tds

how funny is that right now?

i'm leaving Minnesota tomorrow around noon and heading to Green Bay for the game......OH YEAH,here we go Dolphins!

Miami 20 Green Bay 6
