« Sparano: Special teams players got better Mon. | Main | Dolphins go into the bye weekend a day early »

Thursday afternoon practice report

Much interest about what's going on with the Dolphins offensive line today during practice.

John Jerry, he of the illness that has forced him to miss two games, returned to practice for the first time in two weeks.

Jake Long missed the second day of practice today but do not fret. As reported Wednesday by The Herald's Jeff Darlington who quoted a source, Long is simply being rested. Long's knee, an minor issue since the preseason finale at Dallas, has been bothering the left tackle. And since Miami isn't playing on the bye weekend, this was the perfect time for rehabilitation and rest.

At center today the Dolphins are of course getting repetitions from center Joe Berger. He is, after all, the starting center. But they are also getting reps out of backup Cory Procter. I would not be surprised if the team is trying to get more out of Berger by trying to kindle the flames of a competition between him and Procter. So there's that.

First.

Hurry back JJ.
Get well JL.
Get it together JB cause CP is breathin' down your neck.
We need to start blowing open some holes for the R & R EXPRESS!

Armando,

Will Jared Odrick be ready for the GB PACKERS game?
Thanks.

I too want an update on Odrick...Armando get busy!

Armando,

Plain and simple, we need to shut down the passing game and force GB to beat us with the run.
That's how we should approach this next game.

It is the Time for rest.

Armando,

If your at practice, please look Dan Henning straight in the eye and give him a couple of cat growls.
Then give us a report on his reaction.

We need to find our identity as a team. it appears to me that we are not playing as a tight unit yet..i know this takes time when getting new players into the system but it needs to happen quicker this year due to our position in the division amd our 2-2 record with a tough schedule ahead...
I certainly hope we can do it..

Jared Odrick is on the field working off to the side. He is not practicing but the team is optimistic he'll be ready for Green Bay. We shall see.

Yeah, hey Mando, can you try to sneak some tough questions in for henning while you are out there...Maybe ask him if he plans on shuffling the playbook because of the position we are in. You see the issue with having someone henning's age is this..he isnt scared or threatened to loose his job because he is in the latter part of his career and i think the fireing of Bono would scare a yourger guy into going the extra mile to really push plays hard....agree or no?

And do we have any clue as to what this mysterious ilness is? Ive been sick a few times in my life and it has never kept me down for 2-3 weeks....even when i was playing sports...this "illness" is either a cover up, or it is something more than common flu type thing?? Who knows right. It is a beautiful day here in FL...this is my favorite time of the year...im up in Orlando and it is a great day.
Im assuming they are practicing outdoors today Mando?

Now that they fired the ST coach, I hope the new one signs us a return kicks and punts for a TD.
I Think that's one of the concerns of this team. There are a lot of good talent but, not enough stars or playmakers. This team needs at least 2 or 3 more play makers.

Wish we would have kept Smiley and Grove. Even though they are injury prone. I'd rather have those 2 on a part time basis (especially in the run game) than Berger and Incognito on a full time basis.

Don't even get me started on Grant and Douglas over Dotson and Baker. I like the youth movement but vets are needed too - even in back up/part time roles.

'Mysterious illness'??? I thought Jerry had a hairline fibula fracture. Wasn't it "Ike" (linebacker) who had the mysterious illness. Which, since he suited up on Monday, seems to be in the past.
Maybe I'm wrong, just going by memory here.

4-Life....We had a chance to get paymakers in the draft like a lot of teams did, NE, jets, ect... We went for other types of players and you see the result. Now im not saying we didnt need some of the guys we picked..BUT, we could have gotten misi and others deeper in the draft and used our highest and second highest picks on pure playmakers...prolly would have made a difference...and why not one of those great TE's that were in the draft?? we settled on going with an average fasano..another dallas follower..makes me cringe inside all the talent we passed up...

Yeah and also some of the vets as you guys mentioned like smiley and crew should have been kept. And even JT...while he mught be getting old he still draws double teams and that opens up the ability of dansby and crew to make plays while the old man draws doubles..this isnt rocket science and i really feel there were major communication issues within our organization

Mark in Toronto,

Yup Yup!

Dolphanbg...odrick had the hairline thing, the other guys were and still are sick with the mystery typhoid craptacular disorder

come on home.....ARMANDO HAS THE BEST SHOW ON RADIO .THEY PAY HIM GOOD TO LIVE AND LET LIVE ..AS FOR THE BLOG IT'S SIDE JOB FOR HIM NOW ...YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO HIS RADIO SHOW.YOU WILL LIKE IT .

PHINS 8-8. THATS IT. WE LOSE THE NEXT 4 GAMES. BLOW OUTS AT THAT. THEN WE WIN SOME AND LOSE THE LAST 3. MAYBE NEXT SEASON WE WILL GET SOME PLAYERS AND COMPETE????? IM LOOSING CONFIDANCE IN THIS GARBAGE LINE UP!!!!!

Hate to say it but our secondary will get spanked by rogers and his receivers when we play the packs.

Boulder, a lot of people thought that Brady and the Pats woulod have a similar result but they didn't do very much.

This secondary has played pretty well. And the Pack doesn't have the best OL. Maybe we can create some pressure with a healthy front 7 and mess some things up.

However, we struggle with TE's and now we are going to face the best one yet in Jermichael Finley.

Why does it seem everyone has a threat of a TE besides us?

Go Martin! Dolphins will win 12 with your prediction!!! I would be very content with 10.

Martin...that would be 12-4....not a chance this year bro...nice dream outcome you posted though

Remember that Henning came out of retirement to join the Fins and it looks like he should of stayed there.I wrote those same sentiments two years ago and was shouted down by many including a dorky writer at the PBP.Sorry to say that it appears that I was correct.Go Fins!Flatten the Packers!!

IF WE WIN ALL OUR HOME GAME ...........5 WINS

IF WE WIN 3 ON THE ROAD OUT OS SIX ....PLY OFFS.....10-6

WE NEED JETS TO IMPLODE

If it makes any of you feel better...

Listening to the Charger/Cardinal game last Sunday on the Radio here in Cali...

Commentators tore up J. PORTER. Takes plays off, whiffs on tackles and noticed him trying to pump up his defense on the sidelines as the wheels were coming off. They said a big mouth player that takes plays off has no credibility and that's why players were drowning him out and walking away from his rant. LOL!

Trash talking shirt liftin fool!

Go Phins!

Mark..thats because everyone does have and did draft good TE's..but not us, we stick with the dallas transfer bargain basement TE

Reality check

Dolphins are only playing for their 2011 draft pick spot

recommend fishing, scuba or surfing on the weekends

HOME, YEAS I DID ....BTW..........WHY YOU R NOT FRIENDLY TO ARMANDO ,I DON'T SUCK HIM,I JUST LIKE HIS SHOW B/C I LIKE LOW TEC ANY THING ..

Pretty sick of our team right now! That debacle on Monday was embarassing. As a fan, this bye week comes at a great time! Don't plan on thinking about our team much this week or next and hopefully heal up for our game against GB. I hope the coaches are looking at a lot of tape of the past couple of GB games to figure out how to beat them. They obviously have to put some heat on Rodgers and force him to make mistakes. If he has time, he will pick us apart all day. Let them try and run the ball. We will shut them down. Hope Odrick is back because I don't like Solai playing NT. It will be nice to get Starks back there. Time to lick the wounds, forget Monday and get ready for another Herculian effort like Minny. It's our only chance for victory.

Martin, sounds like Porter took off where he left things here. And wasn't he the one that "wished Miami luck" with using Wake as a starter. hahaha, what a looser Porter is. Too bad, we gave him all that money.

cowkilla, I like Fasano but we should have a TE to stretch the seam. My problem is not with Fasano, it's with the other scrubs on the roster at that position.

Look at the bright side
The Patriots kicked the living sheet out of us and have an unbelievable amount of 2011 high draft picks

oh yeah
there is no bright side there

at least todays blog is super informative on what is going on at Miami Dolphin practice LMAO

Armando
The sooner Home is suicided from the blog the better off he will be

This constant churning and switching is one of the trifecta's dumb moves. 3 years and 100 mil Ol still in flux.

HOME, CAN'T YOU UNDERSTAND HOW ARMANDO IS BUSY W/RADIO SHOW AND STILL POSTING AT LEAST SOME TING UNTIL HE SETTLES DOWN W.HIS SHOW .

I KNOW YOU LOOK FOR MORE THAN WE LOOK FOR BUT IT'S A NOT A REASON TO ATTACK THAT WAY...OPEN YOUR HEART .

12-4 Yes!

Because every season you win games you shouldn't and lose games you should win. We F't up on Jets and Pats (disapeared in the first half Jets 2nd half Pats).

Besides division games are often a toss up. They got a couple from us and Bills game was close.

Don't wish it on him but who says Brady plays every game? Jets have older players and tend to read their own press. Snachez will turn the ball over just like Henne has folks.

Phins will as Sporano says "clean things up" and get some injured players back. O line wil gel and running game returns.

Jets have some older players at some key positions. Jets are also a sketchy team.

So lets say my picks are off and we lose 2 more. 10-6 usually gets you in?

Besides we got Rizz from the Jerky Boys running Special Teams now that BonerMango is gone.

Why not us!

Go Phins!

The problem with this regime is that fail to address problems. ST has sucked the long one for 3 years, cant cover a TE for 2 years, no real NT on a 3-4 defense, no pass rusher outside of wake, bums playing at TE

Only move mad was to bring in Marshall

We all knew this before the draft but none was addressed

Hartline! tick tick tick tick tick

Go Phins!

um, spazano endorsed gerbil and grove remember?.. and where are they now.. watch for penni to start at gb and thigpen will be inserted soon after.. sit henne sit.

i said it once and i will say it again, the problem with the defense is one thing and one thing only!! DOBBINS AND CARPENTER!!!!!! all the big run plays come to their side of the field and all the majority of the passes come against them!! we need channing back fast as hell or we need to bring micah johnson in off the practice squad!!

as far as special teams go, the coach had to go!! i was happy he got fired after the game b/c he has to be held responsible for the lack of a special teams! block punts, blocked field goals, and kick returns, while not being able to offer any kind of fight in the ST game!! these things dont happen in a season for most teams let alone one team in the same game no less!! ( I LOVE THE DOLPHINS BUT WAS IN BOYCOTT MODE HAD THE SPECIAL TEAM COACH REMAINED ON THE TEAM)!!!!

OFFENSIVELY we have fallen off the deep end!! wilcat on 3rd and 6, with a hot qb, not running more when we should be and passing to much when we dont need to!! we have the parts in place to be good team but im wondering if the coaching isnt the problem now!!!

mando if you care anything about the dolphins you should tell your sources to tell the dolphins to let thigpen be the triggerman in the wildcat instead of brown!! we brought the wildcat to the nfl and we look like a dinosaur compared to other teams in terms of creativity!!

Aloco,
"If we win our last 5 home games"? Do you remember the last home game we won? I know it was in '09, just don't remember who we slid by.
I do know goofy Ross was behind us playingthese last 2 night games (so we got on national tv for the big $). I have no problem with that, but he should have pushed for us to get day games @ home early in the season for a competitive edge. I don't care what anyone out there thinks: 85 - 90 degress with 85% + humidity hurts opponents not used to it, especially as the game wears on. To be honest, as bad as the piss lines were, I really miss the Orange Bowl. What a true home field advantage we have never had since. The seats were much, much closer to the playing field because it didn't double as a baseball stadium. I remember when everyone would start stomping their feet, the whole place would vibrate like hell. I have to say it, those were the good, ole days when teams hated coming down here because they usually lost. When will we ever get that back?

Josh Cribbs for S. Smith?
Josh Cribbs for B. Hartline?
Josh Cribbs for a pick???

Why not ass!

Go Phins!

Hey Mark...but look at the game film bro, fasano missed a lot of blocks on running plays..a few he whiffed completely man..we need more than he can offer to compete in todays nfl man...fasano is average

Cribbs is the best playa on the Browns

At least he certainly was last year
Very explosive, exciting playa
Hard to tackle
Cribbs will not be going anywhere

Out with BonerMango Out with Rizzi!

In with Izzo!

Why not ass!

Go Phins!

Izzo was good ST playa 4 sure
but dont think he is too bright
not sure if he is coaching material

cowkilla, personally I didn't see the whiffed blocks in that game but if you said they happened, then I will take your word for it.

However, most of the time, he is a very able blocker (we don't give up many sacks), and he is reliable in the short and intermediate routes. However, we do need someone who holds the defense accountable as a vertical threat in the middle of the field. We don't have that.

If any of you haven't seen what Jermichael FInley can do, you will be in for a treat next Sunday. This is the type of TE I want for this team.

Hate to say it but
soon Miami could be 3-6

I got run fellas...

Playing golf with Jimmy Johnson, Patrick Turner, Pat White, Yatil Green, Irving Spikes and Matt Roth.

"I do I really do"

How come we can win on the road, but not at home? Is J-Lo that big of a distraction? Are the players too busy watching what's going on in the new Party Barn? Oh well! We can't change what happened with the Jets and the Pats (until we play them again at the end of the season), so we're 2-2. There's a lot of teams that wished they were 2-2 right about now. The season isn't over yet. Yes, we've got growing pains and things haven't come together all at once like they should. Get over it! Now, let's get ready to take on the Cheeseheads! Go Fins!

Are the Phins the only team in the league that seem incapable, of making big plays on offense? Take away the opening throw to Marshall and Ronnies goal line run both against Minn, and we have failed to create any big plays. What the big play does is energizes your team, and for 2 weeks we have looked blaise and confused. It took the jets going up 14 points before we decided to play, and against New England were handcuffed by mistakes by both the coordinator, and qb. One of the goals stated by TS this offseason was to create more big plays on offense, that we needed to be more explosive. Well lets see it. I know that we are a running team, I get it. But teams are going to let Henne be the guy that has to beat them. I'm sure, positive that coordinators are thinking, take away their run, keep them under 100 yrds on the ground, and let Henne pass for 300 yrds, who cares at some point he will give it away, or they will gift us a wildcat play, and settle for a long field goal, or throw a fade to an undersized 3rd reciever.

Sh*t!
David Boston, Derrick Hagen and Dante Culpepper just showed up! Screw it I'm going fishing!

Why not ass!

Go Phins!

10 wins would be pretty darn fine with a first full year QB. I'd take it in a heart beat. Coaching staff has to get their stuff in gear though before they lose the team because the team has played pretty good so far but been let down by questionable coaching in a lot of areas. Special teams (90% coaching), letting Allen cover Edwards when VOntae was covering the ever dangerous ????, Wildcat at the most inopportune times, etc.

Martin, have you seen Donnie Spragan? He owes me $20.

David Boston was good when he was all juiced up

Then he got caught
Had to get off the roids and production went down

Hagen was a gazelle of fals hope

Culpepper save all his energy to come back on his rehabbed knees a nd stick it to us
Believe QB Culpepper score 3 TDs running himself for huge gains against us and pointing at his healthy knees as he ran the 3rd game winning TD against the Miami Dolphin Brain Stem scouts & coaches
