Tony McDaniel: New rules on hits slowed me down

The NFL's new mandate against helmet-to-helmet hits and focus on protecting defenseless players did its job in that no such hits were deemed delivered this weekend and the NFL did not impose any fines for such hits.

But if you ask Dolphins defensive end Tony McDaniel, the focus on not delivering such contact had an unintended and unwelcome affect on him.

"I honestly could say, myself, on some plays when I had a clear shot at the quarterback, I kind of slowed down and made sure I hit him in the right spot," McDaniel said. "I definitely think it slows us down a little bit as far as speed and thinking about a fine -- a $75,000 fine, a $50,000 fine. Some guys that's four or five-game game checks so it slows the game down a lot.

"I could say me personally as a player it slowed me down. Most definitely."

Ouch.

McDaniel believes the outgrowth of the new focus on helmet-to-helmet hits is that players will tackle lower. You saw such a tackle by cornerback Sean Smith on Pittsburgh receiver Hines Ward. And that kind of play will limit head shots and concussions.

But it will increase the pain elsewhere: At the knees.

"I would rather get a concussion than blow out an ACL," McDaniel said. "Guys are definitely going to go lower now."

GOOD POST TRACY.THE PIZZA GUYS ....SPARANO.DEAMIGO AND RIZZI .

for example, look at the bengals two
picks: jermaine gresham and then jordan shipley in i believe the third round. can anyone imagine if
we had those two players right now? and we had a much bigger need at those
positions than the bengals. or how about the bengals
picking up terrell owens or pacman? those two players are having monster years inexpensively (pacman in his limited play).....i just dont understand it. i am just picking thw bengals randomly, but its sickening
how we drafted and the holes we have right now. no actually, whats sickening is how conservative our playcalling is. do we have the ability to beat every team? yes. but, do our coaches make it so we have the opportunity to lose every game, especially in the fourth quarter? absolutely. why? because no matter who we play, our offensive playcalling makes sure we keep eberyome around in the fourth quarter.
and that will make us an 8-8 team every year. it worked the first year of sparano
and
henning because of
the awesome schedule. but
even then we played winless tampa and kc and such down to the wire every game.
that pitt game
shouldnt have been close. we shouldve got out to 10-0 lead within four minutes at least. and then attack attack attack. we have done it twice in three years, once against buffalo and once
against new england.
bottom line: with our offensive
coordinator and head coach and ireland, we will always be an 8-8 team. how can anyone doubt that? and every game will be a nail biter, and that is hard to watch.

Tracy, i agree, Bryan Schottenheimer has shown himself to be a head coaching candidate. He doesn't seem to have the loser mentality his dad had either - which is similar to the approach Henning/Sparano have shown too.

D.HENNING CAN OWN AN IRISH BAR AND RETIRE .

im in ohio right now for the game, and i can tell u the weather
is an issue. and i have watvhed every bengal game, and it is such an interesting matchup. both teams have so much talent, yet coaching, head and offense, are killing both teams. also, the dolphins suck in second half because they cant adjust, bengals suck in first half because they cant prepare.

I am righ now in ohio and i can tell you it's more than perfect ,it's 68 .
can't ask for more .

EVEN IF THIS CURRENT REGIME IS ON A GLARING ISSUE RIGHT AWAY. SEEMS THEY ALMOST ALWAYS TRY TO SOLVE THE ISSUE BY GOING OUT AND HIRING "CHEAP" MANUAL LABOR OR ALREADY DAMAGED GOODS.

FLAWED PRODUCTS = FLAWED PRODUCTION.

IT TOOK 3YRS TO BRING IN A REAL #1WR AND ILB DESPITE THE OBVIOUS NEED WHEN THEY FIRST ARRIVED.

IN 3YRS ONLY 2 TRULY IMPACT DRAFT PICKS. JAKE LONG(EVERYONE'S NO BRAINER) AND VONTAE DAVIS. ALL THE REST THUS FAR HAVE BEEN SERVICABLE AT BEST INCLUDING CHAD HENNE.

Be careful inimounts, Mary from Quebec is Shawinigan's leading meterologist/sports psychologist and insists no way weather can be an issue at the end of October with the lake effect in the Queen City. She insists Miami can play a game for the next 8 weeks anywhere in the NFL without it being a problem. She will publicly berate you and question your credibility if you disagree.

Kid,I don`t think you know what the cotton picking darn you`re talking about weather in Ohio.
My grand babies live at a farm house in Ohio on 120 acres.
Seven and nine years old the girls are. They went to school in the morning with a light sweat and by recess they are playing outside in short sleeve t-shirts. Halloween when i take them to to hay ride every year and for candy apples, again they wear a light sweater.
Ohio is usually a beautiful 55-60 degrees and never snowing in October. Kid from Toronto, i would bet you a metric ton of chicken feed you have never been to beautiful Ohio in October.
Please don`t tell me about the weather in the USA.
All you Toronto snobs are no more than dirty birds that claim to know everything. Soon I`m selling my house and heading to move to Ohio.
That Carson Palmer can park his shoes under my bed anytime.
Good day now.

fire the oc bring someone new. cant hurt at this point line up 4 wr versus cincy that should throw them off since we dont do that and yes it is close to hitting the panic button

I will tell you what I have seen lately...

A lot of QBs making huge mistakes and still being allowed to be aggressive after. Keep the pedal to the floor.

Anyone see Eli's performance? Anyone see Favre's performance? Anyone see Big Ben's fumbling performance? Drew Brees?

There were a handful or more Pic6 this past week end?

I'm not saying Henne is the next coming of Marino but for Pete's sake, show some confidence in this kid and let him wing it deep once in a while? Sure he might get sacked or throw a pic? He could also connect or draw a pass interference? You have him playing like a droid with the check down and throw it out of bounds. This coaching staff would have miss handled Marino, Elway and Montana,

Fist Pump...Just say NO!

Go Phins!

Take the training wheels off!!!!!

Go Phins!

Martin i was going to say the same. id rather see what we got now and go down in flames the finish still wondering

Did the new rule, slow down the offense too???

IN JARED ODRICK THIS REGIME MAYBE WORKING ON BEING THE FIRST IN NFL HISTORY TO DRAFT BUSTS IN EVERY SINGLE ROUND IN 3 SHORT SEASONS.

I SAYING WORKING ON BECAUSE ODRICK MAYBE POSSIBLY BE TO FRAIL BONED TO SEE SIGNIFICANT ONFIELD PLAYING TIME.

BUSTS OR POTENTIAL BUSTS*

1ST RD JARED ODRICK* asterick

2ND RD PAT WHITE PHILLIP MERLING* SEAN SMITH*

3RD RD PATRICK TURNER

YOU GET THE PICTURE!

Mark in Toronto, Did you catch the Godsmack covering Priest video?

Fist Pump...Just say NO!

Go Phins!

Dear Chicken Feed Lady,

The weather comment was simply to say that it was warm by seasonal standards. You say that it is 55-60 degrees in October normally. We had an Ohio poster say that it is 68. That proves what I said.

In addition, the comment was at the bottom of a football post when I did a quick and dirty analysis of how we were a better team and weather would not be an issue to help curtail that talent advantage that I opined.

Now you come out from wherever you came from to attack me?

Whatever lady, take a hike.

PS, I have been to Ohio many times as well. My summer car was even purchased there.

Thanks for coming out.

Mary in Quebec, How old are you?

What do you think of the Fist Pump?

Why not A S S ?

Haha, Martin, I haven't had the chance. I will though. I do love cranking Godsmack's best of CD in the car though. If anyone out there does like Godsmack, the Best of CD is highly recommended. It comes with a bonus concert DVD.

And yes, no more fist pumps!

Old enough to be Carson Palmer's mother by the sounds of it.

phil76,

They are playing not to lose? It's like when you first learn to drive and you are doing great, you got it down. Then Dad gets in the car and suddenly you are having trouble keeping it between the lines? I don't think they like this kid, period?

Tired of seeing a deep pass completed against us "every" week and we on the other hand "never". I have not jumped on the coaches but I'm starting to believe we have another Wandstadt and Marty Shottenheimer here.

Fist Pump...Just say NO!

Go Phins!

fist pump..loll.. now that is pretty f'n pathetic. will someone tell him already. man.!

INIMOUNTS,

REGARDLESS OF TEAMS NEEDS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO PLAYS CALLED. THIS REGION PRIDES ITSELF ON DOING THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY ARE EITHER SUPPOSED TO DO OR YOU WOULD EXPECT THEM TO DO.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHY UP TO 90% OF THE TIME THESE FOOLS ONLY OUTSMART THEMSELVES.

REMEMBER SEAN MURPHY THE LG THEY DRAFTED AND RAVED OVER THEN SUDDENLY COULDNT EVEN SEEM TO GET GAMEDAY ACTIVATED? HMM..... JOHN JERRY HAS BEEN DEACTIVATED THE LAST 2 GAMES AND HAS NO OBVIOUS INJURIES AND NO SIMPLE ILLNESS COULD HAVE KEPT HIM OUT THIS LONG.

MAKES ONE WONDER HAS HE REGRESSED. CANT REGAIN HIS STARTING FROM PAT McQUISTAN OF ALL PEOPLE. ANOTHER 3RD RD BUST?

take them to a movie. take them to the beach. give them some more time off...lol!

they were gaga for thomas too.lol

@ 2:36 NOT MARTIN!!!
@ 2:34 NOT MARTIN!!!
@ @:36 NOT MARTIN!!!

I respect women fool! Married 25 years, 2 daughters and a grand-daughter.

I prefer more tongue and cheek humor or stupid humor. Not really into the easy stupid vulgar crap.

Fist Pump...Just say NO!

Go Phins!

DOLPHINS ARE NOT PLAYING NOT TO LOSE. IT JUST SEEMS THAT WAY BECAUSE THIER OFFENSE HAS ZERO QUICK STRIKE ABILITY. (SPEED DEMON PASS CATCHING WR)

THERE IS NOT ENOUGH COHESION YET FOR THEM TO PLAY WELL ENOUGH TOGETHER WITHOUT GETTING EASY TD SCORES. WE HAVE A BRAND NEW INTERIOR LINE, ADDED A NEW WR IN MARSHALL, AND 2ND YEAR STARTING QB IN HENNE.

SORRY FOLKS THE CAPS BUTTON HAS LOCKED UP ON MY KEYBOARD FOR SOME REASON.

Mark from Toronto,
I am not Chicken Feed Lady, you dirty varmint.
68 was the high for the day and back down to 58-60 degrees Fahrenheit for game time.
Unless it is below freezing or 95 degrees Farenheit, then who gives a quart of sour cows milk what the weather is like during the football game.
The football players could not give a rats bottom.
You sound like an office boy with feminine traits.
Take a hike i will when i get to Ohio, Sunday.
Wait until Carson Palmer gets a look at these sexy sixty three year old legs. Better looking than most forty year old dames. If Carson comes back to the farm, you better believe, I will let him try my peach pie. Carson Palmer is one handsome son of a gun.

Dying,

Easier to read at my old age LOL!

I refuse to believe we don't have a deep threat?
A lot of getting a guy open deep is the scheme as well. I am seeing sub-par speed receivers catching deep passes every week?

Fist Pump...Just say NO!

Go Phins!

Martin,

I agree with you as far as trusting your QB, even after mistakes.

Maybe it goes beyond trusting just Henne.

Maybe this staff just doesn't have faith in the team as a whole to overcome mistakes.

It's not like Henne is throwing picks left and right. He's got eight TD's against five picks, and a few of those picks weren't really on him.

Hahaha, Mary, even I had to laugh at that last post. Nice!

Dying, gotta disagree, you dont need speed demons to throw the long ball, you just need to throw the long ball and at least SHOW the other team your not afraid to take a chance. Run Marshall on a go and let hin use that big body and soft hands to go up for the ball. I mean we dont even attempt any long passes. Henne has the arm, use it to loosen up that D. By never throwing that pass the opposing D will always play men up and closer to the line. That deep pass doent have to be a completion to be a success in loosening up opposing defenses.

TRIFECTA'S 1ST MISTAKE:

YEAR 1 OF REBUILDING. MORE CONCERNED ABOUT WINNING NOW THAN TAKING THE REAL TRUE APPROACH TO CORRECT REBUILDING.

THE GOOD: 11-5 AND AFC EAST CHAMPS

THE BAD: 2009 25TH DRAFT SLOT

NO TEAM 1 SEASON SHORT OF 1-15 CAN AFFORD TO BE DRAFTING 25TH 1 SEASON LATER. 1-15 SUGGEST A CRITICAL LACK OF TALENT ON THE ROSTER.

ALL OF THE PATCHES FROM THE PATCHWORK FELL OFF ONE SEASON LATER. 2009 RECORD: 7-9.

You might think Carson enjoying my peach pie is funny, kid, but I`m darn tooting serious.
I can out work any thirty year old in the hay.
Hope Carson likes biscuit in the morning, cause mine is dripping with country butter.

Dear Susan, I agree. Let's start by having you stick your tongue in my ass and toss the salad.

You can then rate my toilet paper

Yours Truly

No Wipe

Mary, get Carson Palmer on Saturday night. Weaken his knees for Sunday

Ok, who's posting under this Mary from Quebec alias??

MARSHALL MAYBE OUR BEST DEEP THREAT BUT HE ISNT A SPEED DEMON. TEAMS ARE TAKING HIM AWAY DEEP BY POSTING A SAFETY OVER THE TOP ON HIS SIDE.

HARTLINE STRUGGLES TO GAIN SEPARATION DEEP THERE FORE ISNT A RELIABLE DEEP THREAT. IM NOT MAKING THIS STUFF UP GUYS. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT'S HAPPENING.

FORGET ABOUT BESS GETTING DEEP. WHO THE HELL IS THERE LEFT TO THROW DEEP TO WHEN NO ONE CAN GET OPEN DEEP? AND YOU GUYS WONDER WHY HENNE CHECKS DOWN SO OFTEN.

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT ITS BECAUSE A LOT OF THOSE TIMES THE PLAYCALL WAS AN ATTEMPT AT A DEEP THROW AND NO ONE'S BREAKING OPEN?

A QB USUALLY ONLY HAS 3.5 SECONDS MAX BEFORE HE HAS TO EITHER CHECK IT DOWN OR THROW IT AWAY ON A DEEP PASS CALL. NO ONE'S GETTING ENOUGH SEPARATION QUICK ENOUGH FOR THE DEEP PASS. FORCE IT AND YOU'LL GET A PICK.

THEN THE CRY FOR HENNE'S HEAD GETS EVEN LOUDER!

DEFENSES HAVE MADE UP THIER MINDS MARSHALL ISNT GOING TO BE THE ONE TO BEAT THEM DEEP. BESS DOESNT HAVE THE SPEED TO GAIN ENOUGH SEPARTION. BESS EXCELLS IN SHORT SPACES WHERE HIS SUPERIOR QUICKNESS IS HIS BEST ASSETT.

HARTLINE HAS NEITHER GREAT SPEED NOR QUICKNESS. NO ONE'S OVERLY CONCERNED ABOUT HARTLINE BEATING THEM DEEP.

WE COULD TRY 4 OR 5 WR SETS BUT STILL HAVE 2 PRIMARY PROBLEMS IN THAT AREA. STILL DONT HAVE A BLAZING SPEED AND REALLY COMPROMISES OUR PASS PROTECTION(NOT TE OR RB'S TO HELP).

ALMOST EVERYTHING WOULD HAVE TO BE QUICK HITTING SHORT PASSES HOPING SOMEONE CAN BREAK ONE LONG. BUT IT ISNT NEARLY THE SAME HAS HAVING A TRUER SOURCE OF THE DEEP THREAT.

Thank you for kind words Ms. Susan

I think I love you

No Wipe

i am right now walking in the nice streets of ohio ,the weather today north west wind and it's 68 .

if the phins don't go deep on the first play of the game the won't go deep the rest of the game.

Loco...How many personalities are you on this blog.....put the Mary from Quebec one to bed....just come out and be regular Loco...u know.....ask people what they had for dinner, talk about TV.....the regular stuff.

HENNE HAS THE ARM BUT CONSISTENT ACCURACY IS STILL AN ISSUE. FORCING IT DEEP WILL MORE OFTEN THAN NOT END UP IN EITHER A TOTALLY WASTED DOWN OR INTERCEPTION WHEN GUYS CLEARLY ARENT OPEN.

YOU DONT PLACE FEAR IN THE DEFENSE WHEN THE KNOW BEFORE THE GAME YOU HAVE VERY LIMITED ABILITY TO GO DEEP. TO THEM YOURE JUST WASTING PLAYS AND HELPING THEM IN THIER OBJECTIVE TO GET OFF OF THE FIELD. THATS EXACTLY HOW I WOULD FEEL AS A DEFENDER IN THAT SITUATION.

IF YOU PULLED A CAP GUN ON ME AND I KNEW IT WAS A CAP GUN. I WOULDNT BE AFRAID JUST BECAUSE I HEARD IT POP.

The Parcells coaching tree is one based on defense first, and then, and only then, a Northeastern, traditional, conservative offense. Sparano, Henning, all come from that same mindset. What we have here is a failure to adapt. The one "Parcells" guy who did adapt (unfortunately for us) was Billy B up in NE. He found a QB to whip the ball around, and put a system around him that bred a high-octane passing offense.

Folks, even if we have the personnel to be an explosive offense, I'm not so sure we'll be that type of football team (at least until we get rid of one Offensive Coordinator, and possibly the coach).

With that said, let me bring some cold hard factual reality to the dreamers on this site (i.e. Martin).

- When a team goes 1-15, it means they've reached rock bottom. When that 1-15 team got that way by years and years and years of poor management and personnel mistakes, it needs to be completely rebuilt. That's what the Trifecta had to do in '08. You don't have to do it this way, but it's the most traditional way of doing it, and Parcells decided to rebuild from the trenches OUT. Therefore, the first thing he did was get what's considered today as the best LT in the game and annual ProBowler, Jake Long. With the help of Tony Sparano, they remade the offensive line. No, they're not 100% finished, but I counted 2 sacks last week against the best defense in the league. The QB had all day to throw 98% of his passes. Last year we were 4th in running the ball, and that's part due to the oline. So by ANY MEASURE, this oline is one of the better ones in the league, and better than what was here previously (anyone wanna go back 5 or 10 years and talk about the oline that used to be in Miami?)

- Defense. Yes, we had a top defense in the league with JT and Zach, but those days are long gone. By '07, after Saban and Cam, the defense was pretty much decimated. That's when the Trifecta got to work. Sure, there have been terrible mistakes made (Gibril comes to mind, Akin Ayodele comes to mind). But, I don't think anyone who's followed the Dolphins would say we've ever had the caliber of a Karlos Dansby SINCE Zach/JT were here in their prime. I don't think we've had a Vontae Davis-caliber CB since the Sam Madison/Patrick Surtain-era. Our pass rushers (JT, Joey Porter, Cam Wake) have all been superior athletes. Now that we have a true defensive genius (Nolan), I think we're only a few players away from being a truly special defense.

What I'm saying here folks, is, it's not as bad as Martin would have you think. In his dream world, it's easy to pick players. Hell, look at NYJ, Vernon Ghoulston anyone? Look at Baltimore (anyone seen Mt. Cody in the lineup, is he tearing it up? Anyone heard of Sergio Kindle, will he ever play in the NFL? What about the Rams, Raiders, Bills, SF 49ers? These are teams that were at or near the bottom of the NFL for a few years now. Any of them winning their respective divisions?

It's HARD to find talent people. There is NO winning formula on ensuring the guy you're drafting will or will not pan out. Sure, I could a told you Pat White wouldn't work, but who would you trust, Me, the couch coach, or Bill Parcells, who has actually TURNED TEAMS AROUND in the NFL?

I think we're doing about as well as one would expect. We're a pretty solid team. We could be 4-2, even 5-1 right now. There are teams (Dallas Cowboys) with more talent doing WORSE. So we're not the Bad News Bears here. Teams hate playing us (we even roughed up the Pittsburgh Steelers). We play a rugged, smashmouth style football that yes, might be a little outdated, but yes, still can be effective if done right. I'm more of a pass-friendly offense guy, so I'm glad we got Brandon Marshall, only the best wide receiver we've EVER had on this team (yeah, that includes the Marks Brothers), but I also enjoy seeing Ronnie/Ricky pound the rock.

As a coach, GM, you don't have the comfort of 20/20 hindsight vision. You make your choices, based on the information at your disposal, to the best of your experience and abilities. Some work out, some don't. Pat White wasn't a decision that HAD TO work out. Would a been nice, but he wasn't a 1st-round pick. Then again, you say White, and I say Koa Misi, one of a handful of rookie starters at LB. Whatever you want to say, the kid has a motor, and he's smart. He'll be around for awhile. I applaud the coaches for working with Jason Allen. Gave him a chance to get back in the mix, and now he's in a starting position and working his way to earning his paycheck. Chris Clemons, not going to the ProBowl this year, but is doing MUCH better than I suggested he'd do this preseason. What I'm saying is, these guys Martin and Co. are saying are a bust, aren't, and they're far from it. They're young, they're learning, we don't know yet how good (or bad) they'll eventually be. That's what you get for having a young team. But I'd much rather have a young team we don't know about yet, then a group of seniors that you know won't get you anywhere.

Conclusion, it's not where we want to be, but it's in the right direction, and much better than where we were. Henne IS THE BEST QB of the 12-13 that came before him. Blame your boy Saban, we could have had Drew Brees. Instead, that moron chose the old guy with the bum knee. Where's he at now? Who knows. But I'll take Henne over Jay Fiedler ANYDAY.

I'm not happy that's it's taking so long. But I know this team is on its way BACK to glory, not on the way BACK to last place!

Mark...these guys will always tell on themselves....your sign in name is Mark IN Toronto...

"SHE" just called you Mark FROM Toronto.....sound like anybody else who routinely mis-places words

Missing the ppint Dying. You pick a point where your going deep and you go. Not from deep in your owm territory but like your 35 on. Use Marshall and his height to go up and use the sideline to minimize chances of interceptions. Have to do it or the oposing defenses wil never loosen up.

Wow, DC, maybe you should visit more often, you know sread the thoughts out a little??

Man, that's a lot to digest but I agree!

Yeah, i caught on eventually. They got me a couple of times though. Shame on me.

Actually surprised ALoco knew where Quebec was.

How many times have we thrown deep?

How many were completed?

How does the % compare to other teams?

BOBBYD12,

PROBLEM WITH THAT THEORY IS THAT FROM ABOUT THE 35YD LINE ON IN BRANDON MARSHALL ALL OF SUDDEN BECOMES OUR $47 MILLION DECOY! HENNING TAKES GREAT PRIDE IN OUTSMARTING ONLY HIMSELF.

35YD LINE ON IN HENNING GIVES THE NFL OTHER DEFENSES A HUGE BREAK WHEN WE SHOULD BE GOING FOR THE JUGGALAR USING MARSHALL.

Good post DC....unfortunatley you bring up a lot of good players with little of no AFC EAST tittles, AFC CROWNS, SB apperances or SB wins......

Thats sad really....The glory days are the 70's (before my time as a FIN Fan)

ANything after that to include the afore mentioned players should be considered the medicore days...not glory.

he end game is CHAMPIONSHIPS...not pro-bowls

my GOD CHRIS,I AM NOT MARY,WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU ?LAST NIGHT I WAS TALKING TO YOU AND YOU DIDN'T RILEIZE IT .

I AM NO BODY ELSE ,BELIEVE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

WHY NOT US .I AM ONLY READING TODAY

GUYS,

IMO, THE 2008 AFC EAST CROWN PUT US A FULL SEASON BEHIND IN REBUILDING. WITH THE SEVERE DEPLETION OF STALLWART TALENT THAT A 1-15 SEASON SUGGESTS. NO WAY DO WE HAVE ANY BUSINESS AT ALL DRAFTING 25TH ONE FULL OFFSEASON LATER.

IN ALL ACTUALITY WE ARE 1 SEASON BEHIND IN REBUILDING AS A RESULT OF THAT ALONE.

Also, Philip Merling wasn't a bust. Actually, he was about to assume a larger role in this defense. I doubt Ireland could have forcasted the guy hitting his pregnant girlfriend. And you say 2nd-round pick Merling, I'll up you the 5th-round pick Kendall Langford (maybe he was a 4th). Starter, am I right? Good player, am I right? What about John Jerry? He was a pretty solid pick this year. Dan Carpenter, and I didn't even MENTION the guy people are comparing to Wes Welker and saying he might even be better, Davone Bess.

So for every "mistake" Martin thinks this leadership made, I have a "hit" they made on a player or a free agent. J Peezy served his purpose. Justin Smiley served his purpose. These coaches are the best overall since Shula, hands down. That might not be saying much considering who was here in the interim, but finally we've got at least a halfway-competent coaching staff. Beggars can't be choosers here people.

LOCO..u be who u want....i'm out for a while

Well, if we never even attempt to throw deep i think defemses are going to continur to play tight and stuff our run. The only way to stop that is an occassional shot downfield.

KRIS, UNLESS YOU R GOD AND YOU KNOW WHO IS WHO THEN PROVE IT .

I WOULD SAY YEAS IF I DID .THANK YOU .

DCDOLPHIN,

MERLING IS THE CLOSEST THING TO BEING A BUST WITHOUT ACTUALLY BEING A BUST. HE'S WILDLY INCONSISTENT. HE OCCASSIONALLY MAKES A GREAT PLAY THEN TOTALLY DISAPPEARS FOR LONG STRETCHES.

THATS NOT EXACTLY WHAT YOU LOOK FOR WHEN YOU DRAFT A DEFENSIVE LINEMAN 2ND RD. KENDALL LANGFORD DRAFTED MUCH, MUCH LATER HAS CONSISTENTLY OUTPLAYED HIM ON ALL ACCOUNTS.

DyingBreed you I am with you that Miami needs to invest in a Mike Wallace, Johnny Know type player to compliment this offense.

Marshall is an absolute stud. He can't do it all, every week by himself. Bess is a great slot receiver too. He does his job and is a first down machine. Miami is missing a deep threat and that would make the other parts function a lot better.

Hartline sorry as much as I'd like to see you succeed you are not a starter in the NFL. You suprised as a rookie but somoene had to catch the ball and that is his ceiling IMO.

A nice pass catching TE would be nice too. Fasano is average. He doesn't do anything particularly well. He makes a few plays but can be upgraded for sure. I don't think you need a stud TE. There are only a handful in the league but Fasano and Hartline both need to be back ups not starters.

kris, you're right, that's what's missing. But we did have a Championship, 2 years ago. Hopefully that was just a taste of many to come. Teams in the NFL go up and down. In Miami's heyday, the Jets and NE were CRAP. The Saints NEVER won ANYTHING. San Diego hasn't been good since Dan Fouts. 49ers used to win EVERYTHING.

We've been down the last decade +, but we're coming back around man, have a little hope.

By the way, don't let it seem folks that I'm happy about this. I'm not. I'm heated, hate losing, hate not winning. But I'm realistic. And I know how tough it is to get on top in this league. AND, we're in the top division in the NFL, so it's extra tough. But we're pretty close. We're on the right path. Don't have faith, trust but verify. But just know that people smarter than us are on it, and winning a championship is their goal too.
