Channing Crowder's irreverent demeanor is kind of engaging. Now that he's playing again, and at a fairly high level, he is talking to the media again and giving his opinion about things such as politics and the opposition.
On Thursday, while discussing the Ravens, Crowders was actually being complimentary when he said, "They have amazing receivers on the outside. We know [Anquan] Boldin, [T.J.] Houshmandzadeh and the old, what the hell's the other guy's name?"
One of the huddle of the reporters standing nearby mentioned 36-year-old Derrick Mason.
"There you go, Mason, the old guy," Crowder said. "He's still good as hell, though."
He's not to happy in the manner Crowder brought him up, though. Mason was approached by Baltimore reporters today and told of the exchange between Crowder and the Miami media the day before. (The media loves this kind of tattle-tale stuff, you know.)
And Mason latched on to that line the Baltimore reporters were dangling. Hook. Line. Sinker.
"Listen, as long as their coaches know, that's all that matters. I'm not worried about Chowder," Mason told reporters from the Baltimore Sun and the Carroll County Times. "What’s his name? Crowder? Excuse me. I’ve watched him on film, so I know his name. He’s either not watching film or not paying attention in meetings. But it is what it is. You don’t play through the newspapers, you play on the field. He’s a pretty good player. He’s just got to deal with the guys up front and our fullback.”
It gets better ...
"A lot of people around this league wish, at 36, that they could play at the level that I'm playing at," Mason said. "There's only one other guy that's playing at this level when he's 36 and that's Terrell Owens. There's a lot of other guys wishing they could play at this level, i.e. Crowder, at the age of 36. He's what -- 20-something?
"He was still peeing on himself when I was playing football."
Ziiiiing!

Blah Blah Blah
Yak Yak Yak
I'm really looking forward to this game. Miami needs this win badly and I hope this is the start of them turning things around. Baltimore is as usual a really tough team but beating them makes a huge statement in this division. Let go FINS

Hey wait....was I first? Cool....
Posted by: FinFanRod | November 05, 2010 at 02:51 PM
I know this is counter-intuitive and will probably get laughed at...but R&R need a breakout game and I'm pegging this one.
Dan Henning needs a vindication game and I'm pegging this one too. No more Wildcat, easy on the reverses/throwbacks, just a lot of smashmouth running at the Ravens and the mid-level playaction game.
Sean Smith needs a definitive game and...what the hell...I'm going with this one. Shuts down Mason/Housh.
Basically, I'm all in on the Dolphins this week. Feels like the season hinges on it. LET'S GO FINS!

maybe baltimore will suffer from the same thing the jets suffered from last week after their bye.
Posted by: BoulderFinFan | November 05, 2010 at 03:03 PM
Jaja!!! Cant we all just get along??
Posted by: robbyhernz | November 05, 2010 at 03:09 PM
You'd think Mason would be above this kind of stuff. This is probably why Crowder does so much talking. It gets inside weak-minded people's heads. If Crowder had said this about Randy Moss, Moss wouldn't have even acknowledged it.
Crowder probably still pees on himself. He's definitely got a screw or two loose. He probably pees on other people, too.

jim in nyc, i havn't seen the dolphins smash mouth football sensed the viking first half game, othet than that we have not be dominate at all, i hope this will be the game!
Posted by: ray | November 05, 2010 at 03:24 PM
I lamost pee'd on myself last Saturday night. Too much vodka.
Mason is a very good player though. He's a pain and has very good chemistry with Falco from the Replacements.
Some people will tell you to watch Boldin - but this is th guy that extends drives.

Good thing we get to blog about important stuff like this and not something Silly like how Y. Bell is doing and weather or not he will plan on Sunday.
Posted by: Roman | November 05, 2010 at 03:29 PM
That old man sure is defensive. That's not how you take a complement.
Posted by: bkcane | November 05, 2010 at 03:31 PM
Roman, ALoco, Cuban, Y Bell practiced lightly. He will be a game time decision. Bell's tough so I'd bet on him being there.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | November 05, 2010 at 03:33 PM
Roman,
Sports is entertainment, go read about groin injuries elsewhere and ignore what you don't like.

Posted by: odinseye | November 05, 2010 at 03:38 PM
Well Derrick just proved he's intellectually challenged.
I can relate to that cuz so am I.
Yo Chowder, knock the P-ss out of Mason Sunday. You know like Dansby did Ocho-Loco last week.
Don't forget to wear your depends Mr. Mason!!!!
Posted by: odinseye | November 05, 2010 at 03:42 PM
I found that funny. It wasn't so bad and Mason is just looking for a reason to hate and get himself ready. He will be really going for a big game.
Baltimore has a really good defence but they can be had. I think mid range passes and slants. Run on third and first. And then don't run for 2 sets.
Defence needs a couple of sacks and a lot of different looks.
Posted by: klndry | November 05, 2010 at 03:43 PM
Thanks Mark!
Posted by: Roman | November 05, 2010 at 03:45 PM
That's all kinda funny...
Did you guys scare off old phil78 yet? I could have some fun with his self-righteous as$
Posted by: Marc | November 05, 2010 at 03:45 PM
Mason will be the one to eat us up anyway. The perimeter guys should be (fairly) well covered, but, Benny Sapp/Dansby/Clemmons vs Mason. That's a mismatch every time
Posted by: Marc | November 05, 2010 at 03:49 PM
Yes Mar, mason is the drive extender.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | November 05, 2010 at 03:57 PM
Not exaxtly a football related post. I really could care less what the media 'likes' because a 'tattle-tale' style article is for 'gossipers' and my wife.
This isn't facebook so please continue to write football stories and kock off the crap about name calling.
thanks

What exactly would you prefer to disciss Mizuno?
Posted by: Marc | November 05, 2010 at 04:17 PM
Wanna talk about how Ricky Williams thinks Dan Henning is a "Genuis". The worst part is this coaching staff actually has the players convinced it's their fault. They take accountability for "lack of execution"
Shouldn't the coaching staff take some accountability as well?
Posted by: Marc | November 05, 2010 at 04:20 PM
Miami should sign Raphael as their tailback and we gotta get Leonardo as our QB! Hes an excellent leader and doesn't quit, hangs in there strong and delivers the big play on time!!! Put Michealangelo on the outside as our deep threat along side Marshall and we will have the most EXPLOSIVE offense in the world! Grab Donatello and put him at free safety, his ball hawking skills are much needed in the secondary and we are going straight to the super bowl!!! What do you guys think?
Posted by: Splinter | November 05, 2010 at 04:21 PM
nothing really. im commenting because i'd like to 'read' about my Dolphins football team.
you know... running backs and linebackers an stuff.
i'dlove to know how Bell looked in practice this week.
also, would love to know if Ronie Brown plans on joining 'so you think you can dance or not because he's got the feet for it thisyear.

Splinter...i'm gonna stop writing now. your hopeless.
please, more football and less 'entertainment'.
also, no more female side line reporting. it sets women kind back a 100 years! Disgraceful!
i have no problem with cheerleaders though.
Posted by: mizuno | November 05, 2010 at 04:26 PM
Dear Mr. Salguero
Derrick Mason wouldn't know what funny is, even if it hit him in the face in the form of a banana Channing Crowder cream pie.

What's wrong with putting women back where they were useful (100 years ago...Cooking, cleaning, and making babies)?
Posted by: Marc | November 05, 2010 at 04:29 PM
Strange how the Ravins,Titans,Raiders all have bye weeks before they play the phins.... Just saying..
Posted by: Cuban Menace | November 05, 2010 at 04:44 PM
Strange how it doesn't matter cause we aren't gonna beat at least 2 anyway

Fins, PLEASE be aware (be-Vare) if you're a Romanian vampire..of the QB draw on the 1 yard line.
Flaco/Big Ben (can't spell Rothli..s...never mind) Matt Schaub all have beaten us with that.

How so Loco?
Posted by: Kris | November 05, 2010 at 05:24 PM
i've seen sparano and henne say we only call a play downfield if the defense dictates it. huh? what about an offensive formation(like 4 wide and a slot) dictating what the defense has to do??????? with this kind of thinking from our coach and qb i'm worried the fg parade will continue. our 1st down runs are useless; 10 fg's in 2 games prove we dont know how to get in the end zone. when we fire our gun inside the red zone a cork falls out of our pop gun.
Posted by: greg z. | November 05, 2010 at 05:24 PM
kris, he knows all the defensive calls on the field(better than Dansby) and so, how to align people. If you notice, the defense has improved(although maybe not solely due to him) since he returned to playing.
Posted by: oscar canosa | November 05, 2010 at 05:32 PM
Most comments today are lame ,try doing a better job guys .
CHONCOCHINCO IS NO 91 BY NFL RANKING .CAN SOME ONE TELLS ME WHAT THE HELL HE DID TO BE ON THE 100 MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THE NFL HISTORY ?
Posted by: ALoco | November 05, 2010 at 05:40 PM
Oscar,
I don't but in the defense having improved....I don't really think its that good with or w/out crowder....I'm not sold on Nolan either...maybe he doesn't have the horses to do what he needs, but i think he calls a soft game...luckily for him everybody hates Henning so much
Posted by: Kris | November 05, 2010 at 05:40 PM
I don't buy
Posted by: Kris | November 05, 2010 at 05:42 PM
Allright, kris.
Posted by: oscar canosa | November 05, 2010 at 05:43 PM
However I will give you that Crowder is 10Xs better than Carpenter and the other bozo that missed all those tackles.....
Posted by: Kris | November 05, 2010 at 05:43 PM
CHILDRESS WILL BE FIRED BY MONDAY....................
Posted by: ALoco | November 05, 2010 at 05:44 PM
Seems to me that NOBODY can say who is the best player in NFL history simply because of the diversity of opinions, which is valid. I stopped watching that program when they put Pretty Boy ahead of Elway and Marino. They should know better.
Posted by: oscar canosa | November 05, 2010 at 05:47 PM
WILF ZIGGI WILL fire chilly the MIN coach by monday .his players wants him out ....
the dallas coach will stay on until end of season to suffer and no head coach would take the dallas in mid season .
DENVER coach will not come back next year and that's a sure thing .
aparano will be back ,we are blessed to have him ,a steady coach ,

O.J SAMPSON IS AT 40
Posted by: ALoco | November 05, 2010 at 05:52 PM
ALoca, you said yesterday that YBell was out and it's not so. Why should they fire this Coach if he has a great but undisciplined quarterback + had a badly misguided receiva?
Posted by: oscar canosa | November 05, 2010 at 05:54 PM
This is an interesting conversation
Posted by: Kris | November 05, 2010 at 05:58 PM
OSCAR , I SAID Y.BELL WILL BE OUT B/C HE HAS A BRKEN TOE ,THAT WHAT I READ YESTERDAY AND I PASSED A LONG .HE PLAYS OR NOT I DON'T CARE ,I JUST PASS INFO I COME ACROSS .
