Dolphins pass on Randy Moss, make no changes

It was interesting while it lasted but 4 p.m. came and went and the Dolphins decided against putting in a claim for wide receiver Randy Moss.

Interestingly, the club did put in a claim for outside linebacker Shawne Merriman.

The bottom line?

The Dolphins got neither.

The Dolphins could have had Moss if they wanted. He was available when their turn came up at No. 18 because no other team ahead of them had claimed the enigmatic wide receiver. But Miami passed also and he lands with the Tennessee Titans, who had the No. 22 slot on the waiver claim priority list.

The Dolphins had a claim in for Merriman, but didn't get him because the Buffalo Bills scooped him up with their No. 1 slot on the waiver claim priority list. It wasn't even close for Miami to get him.

What is interesting is that the Dolphins obviously decided Merriman could help them but Moss really would not. Interesting because the Miami offense seems to require more work than the defensive right now and so it could use more help.

The Dolphins will see Randy Moss for the second time this season on Nov. 14. This, by the way, marks the second time in club history the Dolphins had a good, easy opportunity to pick up Randy Moss and decided against it -- the first time being when he was drafted out of Marshall.

the only gamechanging performances moss has done lately is alienating players and coaches into getting rid of him, and his production wasnt jack which is about the same as our lack of same so no big loss there.

I'm just sayin', but I have with the help of chat-therapy have now moved on... I am now in a 12-step recovery program, and hoping to break my addicition to play-makers with speed who could help our offense...

From what I remember, Moss used to run a 4.2. USED. Who knows now. But still, the experience, the experience. Man, I'm not talking about this anymore(a la Randy Moss), hurts too much.

21 other teams passed on Marshall. we were at 18, the Titans at 21. Almost the entire bulk of the teams before us were not even playoff contending teams. Marshall would only go to those teams and tank the rest of the season and they knew that. It would have been Moss-Raideresh for those teams to sign him.

Also this far into his career(12th season) no one will sign him to more than 1yr at a time contracts. He now becomes the next TO.

The last 2-3yrs of his nfl career will become mercinarial.

i thin moss is finished and frankly also feel that we are on the verge...this tough early schedule will work in our favor come december againt he jets and pats...henning does blow but i think we are a better team than we were after we were 2 and 2...tough loss to pitt puts hair on ayoung mans chest and the fact is it was handled properly by the refs under the then current rules....henne has been efficient and mostly accurate and some of the poorer passes he has thrown STILL should have been caught by the likes of Fasano and Hartline....a few more of those catches and we score more TD's/....in a Macro seense, we have become a tougher team both physically and mentally...the running game is coming around and henne and the receivers are only going to get better......and dansby has been all that as has been crowder....and FINALLY, the ST's have quietly much improved the last 3 games....so we are headed in the right direction and moss is not the moss we used to know....so good non call on that...so JAZZED for this huge statement game on Sunday Phins 30 ravens 27........

hey, at least nate ness gets a second shot with this team, hmmm, now thats a head scratcher.

DB, according to unnamed league sources , NFL team presidents and general managers around the league were passing on moss, if the titans didnt claim him he would've become a free agent at considerable less $$$ now the titans must pay him, Just sayin, his attitude and his recent play is what cost him lack of interest by most other teams!!!

I think the Ravens can be had offensively. Flaco throws well of balance but I feel he crumbles under intense pressure, Also, their OC, well....we know him.

Thanks for the discussion guys, alot of interesting points regarding Moss, and the Dolphins.

I think we can make the playoffs this year, in spite of everything. And, I hope we can even make it to the SuperBowl. You never know, we have a solid foundation of young players. Maybe they will all gel, and peak at the right time...

Anyway, I am fading... Hasta

Hey if the bills can go up to baltimore and put 30 pts on them then just maybe we can do the same, That is if dan henning croaks at the begginning of the game!!!Maybe-possibly---Please!!!

for the last 2-3 seasons everyone's been saying TO's finished. Last I checked he's still making plays. He's not the explosive player he used to be but still making big time plays none the less.

Sure Hartline's made some catches but hasnt made a big time play since last season. Just Moss' presense would have forced DC's to keep it honest. If Hartline continues not to make a big time play even the plays available will slowly begin to disappear.

This argument is not about Randy Moss. Is more about we had a chance to acquire exactly what our offense needs most and passed. But there's always the offseason and draft year to get a real #2 deep threat wr.

Just dont have any deep playoff aspirations nor be to upset if you agree with passing on the "only" opportunity we had in season to correct a wrong should we miss the playoffs entirely.

I will have no sympathy for any poster who say we were right to pass on a bonafide deep threat when he or she cries what a crappy team we are for not making the playoffs. Or what a crappy team we are in another one and done playoff where team deficiencies really are exposed.

Sorry DB but i have to disagree, Moss was not the improvement we were seeking or needed for this offense to become more explosive, Yes TO is still making plays, but he hasnt been kicked off 2 teams in three months span. Sorry if this was old 2007 moss again i would agree but nothing this guy has shown this year makes me believe we were better with him than without him.

Goodnight, guys(and any gals present). Enjoyed the interchange.

$3.5 million for an eight game rental of Moss for a playoff calibre team is paltry sum. Moss would never have reached free agency. The farther down the scale he slid the better his chances got that he would be claimed.

Gotta remember the farther Moss slid the better chance he had of landing on a really good team looking for that winning edge.

At this point in his career(12th) he's just like TO. A perrenial 1yr rental until its definitive all of his skills are gone. Noone will ever sign either to large multiple yr contracts.

3.5 million paltry sum??? Damn is $$$ that cheap nowadays, i could use a bit of that pocket change myself. But still its over and done with and im happy we can move on from this and onto baltimore...Whats done is done and cant be undone and as far as aspirations of postseason, any die hard will tell ya, dont ever get your hopes up that high.

Last I'll say on this matter. Dont think you fully understand what will happen to the entire offense once Marshall's fully taken away and the safeties start creeping up. If Moss only caught one td for the entire final 8 games, just his presence keeps the safeties honest.

Hartline's slowly losing all respect and regards from nfl DC's. They will began to slowly creep those safeties closer and closer towards the line of scrimmage.

When this happens we no longer have to worry about not scoring td's. We wont be scoring very many field goals either. We'll struggle to get into field goal position and the redzone will become a long and distant memory.

The happiest man in America that we didnt pick up Randy Moss is definitely the Baltimore Ravens DC right now!

well, i cant say hartline is becoming the next go to guy thats for sure but we may have to wait yet another off-season for another change in production from this recieving core and HOPEFULLY a change in offensive coordinators as well. I thought we had a chance at the playoffs this year at 10-6 which could still happen but i never thought we could go beyond one game in the postseason. Who knows, we'll just have to wait and see what happens in the second half of the season.

then that makes me the happiest DOLFAN in america that we passed on him as well.

Superfin...ua gotta remember, even though the bills have a horrible record...they can still score TD's, and we cannot. 8 games into the season and Marshall has 1 TD!!!! That is atrocious my friend. Buff takes shots downfield and shots in the red zone...and whaddaya know it works. If henning would throw the damn ball up to Marshall i bet anything that he comes down with 7 or 8 oit of 10 pases...and that spread takes into account of bad ball location and such. He might even get all of them who knows...we wont ever find out if henning stays here.

K guys, im off to pork some apple pie in my girls pants then off to hit uo some online shootin...you all have a good night please.

Only thing scaring me about that is they'll wait til 4th rd or later to draft a speed wr that needs at least 2yrs developing just to get him on the gameday active list, let alone play.

This regime is fast becoming a joke. Both Ireland and Sparano are still in on the job training. Neither have a proven track record in thier respective positions. Dan Henning was dumped by his last employer.

Only Mike Nolan has a proven track record of success in his last time of employment. It was only a rift of between he and a unproven headcoach in Denver that caused his ouster. Only Nolan's a keeper.

I agree 100% cowkilla, why waste 3.5 million on moss scoring TDS when we cant get a guy worth 47 million to have the damn ball thrown to him....hennings the weak link we really dont need!!!!

What you see is we passed on Randy Moss. Im sure thats what this regime sees too. Everyone else see we passed on something we needed most. "A Legit Deep Threat."

Renting one for only 8 games wasnt that big of a deal. We had the entire offseason to find Citizen Kane.

i miss the ease of clayton duper and marino. our offense is CONSTIPATED and lacks moxy and spontaneity!

They've definately pulled off some WTF'S already here in miami with their decisions especially with their latest move in bringing back ness....Is that not a true sign of ---WE NEED HELP----red flag!!!!

Marshall wasnt the answer alone. Im sure this regime are aware Marshall poted only 4.6 and 4.7 rookie combine numbers in the 40yd dash. Marshall is nor ever has been a legit threat to blow past db's deep. Marshall is a break a tackle and gash you up type wr.

Marshall has to be complimented by a legit deep threat to be more effective as a passing offense.

how come we have not thrown one pass to our backup te?

our secondary is better with ness

I think miami should have never put themselves in this situation to where fans are desperate for any type of deep threat this late in the season with the trade deadline gone, Miami never intended to pick up anybody else in free agency or the draft to compliment marshall weather it be a TE or another young wideout to push hartline for the #2, Now that part would make me more outraged than having to even talk about having a guy like moss here at all!!!

my FAVORITE darkhorse player who will be a big time syrprise is jonathan Amaya!!!!

1) Just by stepping on the field he makes us a serious playoff contender.
2) Just by stepping on the field he takes pressure off of Marshall.
3) Just by stepping on the field he takes 8 men out of the box for Ricky and Ronnie.
4) We get to learn what one of the greatest WR has to say about the Pats offense.

None of these thing require Moss performing at a certain level. Therefore they are near certainties. This is why I feel his attitude might not be the best if it does not work out you did not risk anything. Plus you keep him away from an AFC that is 5-3 to our 4-3. If we lose to Tenn. and both end the season 10-6 and lose the tie breaker to them I believe I will be laughing yet crying at the same time. Add this to the huge list of bonehead moves that have been made with the Dolphins since the Wanny area days.

moss was dissed by belicheck and he sends love to him? so treat me bad and i will be loyal??

Ness? Outside of 5-6 max, good decisions. Everything this region does is a headscratcher. I used to give them the benifit of the doubt. Theyve now been here long enough to begin seeing a continuous patterns of boneheaded decision making ineptitude.

Any other decent moves are more due to the fact even a blind squirrel fins a nut every now and then. Not by great achievement.

henne is missing that intangible quality that a qb needs.

our secondary is better with ness

I'm sure oakland is thankful they might see him again come week 12 since they just torched him against the seahawks.

good selections. amaya misi odrick langford clemons late vontae and smith.

nolan will use him correctly

u think sparano reads these posts?

we need some trickey to spark us this week

Moss Schmoss.
He runs the sideline and expects the ball to drop into his hands.
He does not want to change direction to go after the ball.
He does not like getting hit.
No thanks to this non-physical, self-entitled, anti-youth movement waiver wire option.

Evcn in Shula's worst seasons the decision making didnt sink to the levels its been the last 31 seasons. Maybe if this region did the absolute opposite of what they really wanted to do we would be 7-0 right now.

clemons is up and down, he practically volleyballed a TD to TO on sunday ,odrick is gone so we dont know what to expect from him yet untill we see him a full season.Smith has been a bust thus far, V. davis has really been our best draft pick to this point. Misis is improving but still too green and langford is inconsistant at the line. I havent even hear amayas named mention in half our games played thus far, does he even play???

"The last 13 seasons"

Amaya was just resigned off the practice squad.

amaya is a diamond in the rough. odrick is a studd and misi us mot too gren with his sacks and hurries. smith us in ni way a bust just green

clemins we got for a late round picj!!!

amaya gets ints

i would luv to see a reverse on a kickoff return. something

DB, what we need is an attitude like the colts have , kick while their down and they might not want to get back up again. Have we even tried running the no huddle outside of 2 minutes of a game in order to be more aggressive this year, i dont think we have which is kind of puzzling in the sense that we cant conventionally line up and make plays happen. At least we need to try something different this week, maybe no huddle in the redzone??!!

Why do they need another LB..?????....theyre obsessed with them yet cant pick a GREAT one...many many average ones on this team....

Sparano....look at the OFFENCE and fix it...we dont score TOUCHDOWNS, yet we have the players with talent....only ONE other reason then....playcalling and coaching is not getting it done...Lookin at you Tony..!!

Well guys,

All I can say is goodnight and we can surely now add 2010 to our growing list of non SB appearaces!

Moss Schmoss.
Who wants someone that takes plays off?

anthonybarmstrong is having a great year stretching defenses. we had him!

how many freakin picks do the patsies now have with moss ?

offerdahl just resigned by miami!! dreaming

Can't understand the Colt comparison. You want us to do what the Colts do but we dont have what the Colts have. Then you are one of many fans agreeing we pass on a "deep threat" making our offense more Colt-like.

Sure its Randy Moss but why kill the messenger even if his skills bring the good message?

spitler did well on special teams last game
