Dolphins pass on Randy Moss, make no changes

It was interesting while it lasted but 4 p.m. came and went and the Dolphins decided against putting in a claim for wide receiver Randy Moss.

Interestingly, the club did put in a claim for outside linebacker Shawne Merriman.

The bottom line?

The Dolphins got neither.

The Dolphins could have had Moss if they wanted. He was available when their turn came up at No. 18 because no other team ahead of them had claimed the enigmatic wide receiver. But Miami passed also and he lands with the Tennessee Titans, who had the No. 22 slot on the waiver claim priority list.

The Dolphins had a claim in for Merriman, but didn't get him because the Buffalo Bills scooped him up with their No. 1 slot on the waiver claim priority list. It wasn't even close for Miami to get him.

What is interesting is that the Dolphins obviously decided Merriman could help them but Moss really would not. Interesting because the Miami offense seems to require more work than the defensive right now and so it could use more help.

The Dolphins will see Randy Moss for the second time this season on Nov. 14. This, by the way, marks the second time in club history the Dolphins had a good, easy opportunity to pick up Randy Moss and decided against it -- the first time being when he was drafted out of Marshall.

This year wasnt going to be the year of miamis return to a SB so that wasnt going to change with moss or marshall here. But heres to continued road success and to dan heening having a hernia by next fall that kicks him out of coaching!!!PHIN OUT!!!!

A bunch of you last year were talking like the far off dream of adding Marshall put us in Dallas Stadium in January. WTF!

I thought he was the second coming?

I see a lot of posts on here about him drawing double and triple teams. I got news for you fellas! For all that money and the way a few of you talked him up last year, he better get open! He better make plays. Where is the YAC?

My point is this. He is an awesome receiver and I was just showing you all how so far he has been off limits. It is easy to jump on anyone and everyone. The team is young and learning how to play together. It doesn't help that the OC is a restrictor plate. I think this team is built for November, December and beyond now. Do they lack speed? Sure! My feeling is that we will start to see some play-makers emerge very soon. You are seeing this already. Speed will be addressed in the off season that's not so hard. Getting a core group of solid grunts is and for the most part the nucleus is there. I'm feeling pretty good about my Phins and I don't need another Moss, Joey Porter malcontent killin my buzz.

Go Phins!

imteesting poimt about phins being built for for nov and dec

dont need a deep threat in the redzone which miami is constitant among few things that they do right, but no huddle would throw off oppossing defenses in regards to make less time for subbing and pulling guys off coverage. Colts mentality as far as urgency and killer instinct not as far as Offensive explosiveness.

Right now Im not 100% sure whether Hartline just cant get open deep or Henning has the handcuffs on Henne so tight he's not allowed to throw deep unless the wr has at least 2 steps on the defender. Wouldnt be surprised at all if its the latter.

Dont know if we survive one more season of Henning after 2010.

Moss Schmoss.
His time has come and gone.

Why can't we be like the Saints!

Why can't we be like the Colts!

Why can't we get Brandon Marshall!

Why did the Tuna leave!

Whaa Whaa Whaaa!

This is the home of the Phins! Bioches! Fist Pump and all!...

and starting this Sunday it's time to pay!

Pittsburgh won and got out of town as soon as they could. To a man they said the Phins are PHYSICAL!

SO LET IT BE WRITTEN SO LET IT BE DONE! I'M CREEPING DEATH!

Go Phins!

go fins

Marshall's definitely getting at least doubled in the redzone. Apparently Hartline's not open enough because the ball isnt coming his way.

We definitely arent running it in because Sunday was the 1st rushing td since Buffalo. Marshall would be a great redzone weapon if he werent double teamed and they dont want Henne risking turnovers forcing it to him.

Peyton Manning throws a lot of quick slants. Noticed we rarely ever throw them. Another case of handcuffing Henne and the passing attack.

Hey matin, maybe you should contact the front office and fax that to them, good bulletin reading meterial, just make sure you have a drawn picture of henning hanging by a strip wire at the bottom.

Dying, It's all by design. It's Henning the restrictor plate. They are from the Parcells school of "No Mistakes".

I think Sparano is breaking command? Have you noticed that ever since Parcells more distanced himself that they are passing more? Do you notice sideline camera shots of Sparano clearly getting annoyed at some of the play calls? I think Sparano is stepping up and taking the reigns. I have a funny feeling there was some in-fighting about the Wildcat. Sparano looked pretty pissed when it killed the drive in the NE game. It completely disappeared for 2 games. They are teaching this QB how to be a complete player slower than us fans would like. Henne will soon learn coverages, improve timing and trust his arm. The check-downs will become less and less and you can already see him pump fake a tad bit more and look off defenders. He has made some poor throws but most young Qbs do. Heck even some seasoned ones are making ridiculous mistakes it seems. The receivers are dropping far too many passes as well. Last but not least is the poorly designed pass attack designed to max protect and provide a check-down on every attempt. Just a thought?
Go Phins!

This whole thing about Stretching the field, having a Home Run, Take it to the House running game is good and all. But it seems to me that the last few SB winners other than the Rams have had a tough running game, opportunistic defense, and an offense that could convert when it has to. I know, I know, you gotta score TDs too. They are coming Fellas!

Go Phins!

I'm Pumped Man!

Where's my Shake Weight!

GRRRRRR! I feel Like Dr. Daivid Banner when he turns into the HULK!

I just hit my girl with an accidental Fist Pump when she walked by!!!

Phins 24 Ravens 17

Us 2 pics and 2 sacs TD passes!

SO LET IT BE WRITTEN! SO LET IT BE DONE!
I'M CREEPING DEATH...METALLICA

Go Phins!

No way we score 24pts on the ravens defense. We need a turnover and a special teams td to score 24pts. Not impossible but highly unlikely. Just having the st's not give up a score is high enough on the prayer list nowadays.

who here thinks the Hartline doesnt have something to prove this weekend?? just wait!!

lets face it . They just cheaped out. They did
not want to spend over 3mil for 1/2 season. How
ever they probably would have signed him on the cheap if he cleared waivers.

here's what will happen now...henning will call plays this week, out of the normal game plan (of being safe) to 'stretch' the field with our WRs (to prove their good enough) and henne will have 3 INT's or be sacked and fumble (we know how he likes to get rid of the ball quickly) by half time. Meanwhile we're down about 17 to 21 points and the game will be over by then.

No biggie,
We shut him down when we played New England.
Remember Our quarterback is on a short leash, and can barely find Marshall open. Give him a little more time to see the entire field.
Henne is so concerned about getting the ball off quickly, he doesn't see the entire field. He is steadily improving and I expect to see a better passing game by the end of the year.

Sometimes, I wonder if the Tuna did this to us on purpose. You know, saddle us with mediocre coaches and players. Payback for all those years when Miami was his nemesis and Marino had his number on the field. Just sayin'.

Great decision. Randy Moss is cancer on every team he has been on. I am happy to stand pat with our receivers. Now as to our play calling, that is another question. I havent given up on the season yet......less than halfway thru and we could easily have been in the same spot as the Cowboys. Narrow losses to the Jets and Pittsburgh (>) and an anomaly to New England?? not bad.....

THIS FRANCHISE IS A BIG JOKE HOW MANY MORE GOOD PLAYERS ARE THEY GOING TO CONTINUE TO PASS ON JEREMY MACLIN,DESEAN JACKSON,KENNY BRITT,HACKEEM NICKS,DEZ BRYANT,DREW BREES,RANDY MOSS WHO IS IN CHARGE OF EVALUATING TALENT CAUSE THESE ARE ALL THE PLAYERS THEY HAVE PASSED ON HOW COME WE DON'T DRAFT ANY SLEEPERS LIKE MIKE WALLACE OR AARON HERNANDEZ ALL THESE GUYS WERE AVAILABLE AND WE PASSED ON THEM FOR WHO PAT WHITE,ODRICK,TURNER,HARTLINE WHAT A FREAKING JOKE OF A FRANCHISE I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF ROOTING FOR THESE GOD DAMN LOSERS!!!!

Armando:

You are making a big story out of this and obviously causing a lot Dolphins fans to cry needlessly. I partially blame you (the media in general) because you all love to fabricate something when it isn't there. The Dolphins don't want Randy Moss, they don't badly need Randy Moss and Moss' skills have eroded greatly. The guy has social deficiencies that are untreated (i.e. Ricky Williams circa 2003). Why bring that into our locker room? The other analogy that you are totally fabricating is that this is the 2nd chance we have had to get Moss and passed on him. Mando, it is a different regime here, he is a different player now, the dollars and circumstances are totally different. Why equate the two?? Taking JOHN AVERY over Randy Moss in 1997 was one of the worse personnel decisioin the Dolphins have made in recent memory. Not blowing up our locker room for a prima donna, 33 year old receiver with eroding skills is not a mistake, it is a preference and I side with the Dolphin brass on this one.

Fins Brain trust, has no brain. that is why Parcel packed up and because he knew he F...up!!
