Good news! Center expected back for Oakland

After starter Joe Berger missed Thursday night's game and backup Cory Procter left the game with a knee injury, the Dolphins might on the surface seem to be dealing with something of a crisis at the center position today.

Relax. They are not.

Berger, who started Miami's first nine games of the season after beating out Jake Grove for the spot, is expected to return to the lineup against Oakland when the Dolphins visit the Black Hole Nov. 28. It's not so much that Berger is expected to recover in time from the knee injury the team listed for him in declaring him out last week, although that apparently should be the case.

It's that, according to a club source, the "personal issue" that Berger is attending to should be sufficiently resolved by the week of the Oakland game.

The source declined to specify what issue Berger is dealing with but it seems clear that it as much as the knee is the reason the player missed Thursday's game. And again, the club expects the issue to be handled when Berger, who has been away from the team for a time, returns to work.

So the Dolphins don't necessarily need to go shopping for a starting center. They don't have to worry about continuing to play left guard Richie Incognito at the center position as he did much of Thursday night.

The team should be fine once Berger handles his business.

I WONDER WHY DANSBY MERIT 8 MILLION IF WAKE MAKES 1.6 MILLION ?

I wonder wonder who, buh do do who, who wrote the Book Of Love.

Just watching Espn, Santonio Holmes become a free agent in 2011. If Cowher is GM do you think that gives us an inside track to him?

Shame Marshall cost 2 2nd rounders when we could have drafted Dez Bryant and picked up Santonio Holmes for a 4th rd pick. Wasnt AJ Edds our 4th rd pick that never played a game this season anyway? WOW........

i hope henne comes back soon!

DYING BREED , YOU R DOING MONDY Q PACKING ?

ALoco,

LOL, seems if you were GM all of your time would be spent chasing that elusive imaginary franchise qb that isnt "realistically" available. WHY? LOL...........

The greatest skill, ability requirement that any front office requires for success is TALENT EVALUATION....

Lets ask ourselves if we think that this front office, which I still support, has done well enough to merit further support and confidence...

1 FA agents.......assessment.....POOR...4/10
2 DRAFTS..........assessment.....PASS...5/10
3 Hidden GEMS.....assessment.....GOOD...7/10

Most football pundits would say you need to build through the draft for success...well if thats the case then we will be found wanting if past records mean anything...

There are LESS hole in this team than 3 years ago...but not that many less...

So far this FO has done MEDIOCRE...5/10

Will that cut it?

Not in the long term...

Big Big changes required starting with QB...do we have a franchise QB is the question...play Henne now till the end of the season so that we can find out categorically if HENNE is the answer....no more guessing games...!!!!!

ALoco,

Monday morning qb'ing is evaluating things that have already happened. Im posting about things that have yet to happen. See the difference buddy?

To me the key is the QB...if you land a Franchise QB...you have a chance...without one you have NO CHANCE....therefore invest EVERYTHING until you get one....that should have been Matt Ryan with the phins...and by extension the CORRECT pick should earlier have been Brady Quinn because we would have been looking for our QB....yes Brady Quinn....even though he is a bust, our pick at the time with all the circs should have been him...we are not serious about the QB position....

DYING, IT'S AN EASY JOB FOR ANY ONE TO DO A B ETTER JOB THAN IRELAND DID W/CHAD.P THE CON MAN AND THIGGY THE FORGOTTEN MAN .

DYING, YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT HOLMES AFTER THE FACT THAT HE'S BEEN GREAT .YOU SEE BODY ?

Its amazing that the Wets were in such dire states tw0 years ago with brett favre straggling there and miami was the cardiac kids of the NFL and now The wets decided that they werent good enough in 2008, went out spent out, stole some good players, Built up their defense , and two years later their sitting atop the division with the pats who were on a *REBUILDING* PLAN SO IT WERE CALLED AND IN two years both find themselves the best in Conference and everybody here thinks that teams should be built in 3-4 yrs time, Amazing how patience with some can turn into such dissapointment in others!!!!

That is why I am not happy with this FO....

1 Their QB evaluation hasnt been good enough. They should by now know if they have what they want.I think they know, and its a problem.I think they may have miscued and they are nervous.

2 The play calling is poor.
3 The new acquisitions are not better than what they had.....bad sign

THANK YOU BIGALFY......QB IS THE KEY . IF YOU AVE ONE ALL YOUR PLAYER WILL PERFORM AND THE COACH WILL BECOME A LEGNED .

ingram? why, lets get some speed

My question to everyone bashing the Henne is where is the franchise qb you are replacing him with? No matter what coach or Gm we bring in they are not going to magically snatch one from his @ss.

For "right now" the best case scenario is to only more solidify everything else around him both offensively and defensely. You cant just blow Henne up, he's far from being that terrible. I would say he's at least a top 16 range qb right now, he's far from being a Russell or McGuire.

SUPERPHIN,

I REMEMBER ALL PEOPLE WERE LAUGHING AT THE JETS OWNER WHEN HE TRADED THE BROWNS 5 PICK TWO YEARS AGO ,NOW MANCINI WISHES TO HAVE NOT DONE SO AND KEEP SANCHEZ FOR HIMSELF .

I hate rexy as much as the next finfan but the guy doesnt hold anything back, and now the Fat @SS is carrying it out, in some ways i think thats more or less what WE need around here instead of preaching improving and getting comfortable with the team year by year, Just another observation by a fualt that the front office seems to ignore with this organiztion!!!

No worries ALOCO....there is not a defined clear modus operandi by the FO....they flip flop with their philosophy....not good....stick to a plan and dont budge...look for the QB till you are 100% sure you have him...invest until you do...otherwise sit and hope ....and that wont get it done...

Look at those punk Wets...invested in Sancheez...and got THE BEST FA talent abvailable....and didnt stop...YES....you do not need 4 years to build slowly ...thats a complete myth....no good if you cant pick well in the draft is it?

no he doesnt, mccoy will be every bit as good as sanchez

ALoco,

Its not Monday morning to talk about Santonio Holmes. There were never any questions surrounding his talent. It was always character issues. Ben Rothliberger issues pretty much forced Steeler's hand on keeping Holmes. Timing was the key issue.

We had a chance to get Holmes and whiffed but the Jets didnt. Holmes was a SB mvp, nothing about his talent level is Monday morning qb'ing.

I think Armando and Cote have committed suicide. Imagine trying to come up with something to write about now? Hope is for losers.

Aloco, I dont blame miami for not going after Braylon, but i dont understand this constant need to always have the opinion going into an offseason that this team was only One or two peices away from being Super Bowl ready when there was still GLARING needs this team couldve used to Really make a run.... We didnt even make the playoffs and finished with a 7-9 record, compared to 2008, that wasnt really improving was it????

REMEMBER THE JETS FIRST GOT THE COACH IN PLACE THEN TRADED FOR THE QB THEN TRADED FOR EDWARD AND HOLMES ,

BUT IN OUR CASE WE KEPT ALL OUR LOVELY OLD PEOPLE AROUND FOR A QB THEN WE SIGNED DANSBY AND MARSHALL FOR 100 MILLION /4 YEARS .

I wanted COLT MCCOY....i said it 220 times....but I agree with Dying Breed..Henne isnt done yet...he MAY be the man...Im simply saying you need to pick every year a QB via draft and any possible highly talented QB avail in FA...think Vick....until you have your man and it is 100%...then build around him...he will make all the rest look like pro bowlers....

Yahooooooo, the season is saved, the center is coming back.

QUARTERBACK is 50% of the team....he is the key....the MOST important position....unleess the rest of the team is sensational, your goin nowhere without a champion QB....

Mark Ingram*, RB, Alabama - Scouting Report
Height: 5-10. Weight: 215.
Projected 40 Time: 4.44.
Projected Round (2011): Top 15 Pick.

10/1/10: Ingram recovered from a knee injury missing his first two games, but he has dominated and returned to Heisman form. He is averaging 9.3 yards per carry on 308 yards total in his last two games against Duke and Arkansas. Ingram isn't the fastest back in the 2011 NFL Draft, but he has amazing balance, power, vision and terrific instincts. He will be the first back off the board.

3/29/10: The 2009 Heisman Trophy winner, Mark Ingram rushed for 1,658 yards and 17 touchdowns on a 6.1 YPC. He also caught 32 passes for 334 more yards. He's a legit top-10 prospect.

A 4.44 forty isnt exactly slow either. "Ingram isn't the fastest back in the 2011 NFL Draft, but he has amazing balance, power, vision and terrific instincts. He will be the first back off the board."

This still sounds like a huge upgrade to Ronnie Brown. Brown has almost "zero rb instincts."

Mr. Tibbs, Those are few and far between...I posted earlier the last 10 SB winners...7 of them have Franchise QBs.....your way may work...but your percentages of being a consistent winner/playoff contender greatly improve with the level of your QB.

Cuban-Sanchez did it against 3 shitty teams.Be impressed all you want, but you won't catch me bragging about the enemy.

Dolphins are DONE.....Playoffs? Yeah Right! Looks like from the AFC it'll be New England, Jets, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Indianapolis/Jacksonville - sorry Miami, another year filled with empty promises and aberrations .... I guess everyone can start discussing possible coaching changes, college QB & RB prospects, free agency & oh yeah, a possible lockout.....

I can promise you this, Sparano somewhere is sitting on a couch at home looking at the jets and patsies and thinking damn.....DROPPed THE BALL AGAIN!!! And we all know coaches DO pay attention to that S#it more than they say they dont!!!!

Those wanting a franchise qb will just have to get over it for now. Parcells whiffed on that by taking Jake Long over Matt Ryan. At that time BP felt we could live with a franchise LT over a franchise qb.

I've come on here recently a few times saying Henne is not the guy. I believe in him up until half way through this season, now I have serious doubts. Others have pointed out how many great QB's take 3 - 5 years to really hit their stride. I do agree with that. Maybe Henne will be one of those guys. On the flip side, this guy was a 4 year starter at Michigan, had a year on the bench tutelage under Penne, and now in his second year, he seems to be going backwards, not forwards. Last year he had more fire and grit. This year he seems timid and tentative. Flacco and Ryan and Sanchez were winning from the begining with far less experience as Henne has. So my concern is, we invest another 2 years in him, go nowhere, and then start over again with a new QB.

THE BIGEST MISTAKE WAS NOT TO SIGN A PROVEN STAR QB IN M.VICK .WE COULD HAVE SIGNED HIM TO BACK HENNE AND SAY WE GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE IN LIFE LIKE PHI DID TO HIMAND NOW LOOK AT PHI W/HIM .

ALoco,

Mentioning Vick is real monday morning qb'ing. Everyone knew of his speed and athleticism. Absolutely no one forseen the Vick we now witnessed coming. He never showed glimpses of this while still in Atlanta.

I mean everyone dropped the ball on Vick and Philly only signed him to experiment with a Vick-led wildcat potential. So I give our idiots a full pass even though they could have signed just like the other 31 other nfl teams.

Vick was by far a greater threat with his legs than arm prior to his prison conviction. He's the only qb in nfl history to have rushed for 1,000yds in a season.

DyingB - good point. Vick is a far better QB today than he was before his prison term. His first year back he still didn't even look that good. Now he is in full stride. But your point is right on, total Monday Morning QBing, nobody could have seen this ahead of time.

Dear Mr. Aloco

Did you know that since Micheal Vick was released from prison the puppy population in the united states has been in steady decline.

We are also seeing less and less kittens and unicorns across the U.S.A.

Coincidence ?

Soiled :)

DYING, AT THE TIME I WAS SCREAMING FOR US TO SIGN HIM FOR MINUM SALARY AS PHI BUT WE ACTED LIKE MOTHER TERAZA

DYING/WOE..........M.VICK IS BETTER B/C HE DOESN'T NEED TO RUSH TO FINISH THE GAME TO GO TO ATTEND DOG FIGHTS .NOW HIS BRAIN IS CLEAR ONLY FOR FOOTBALL .

MR SOILED...................... VERY FUNNY

I'm sure that'll make em a playoff team..doinK!

Woa,

Why dont we just trade Henne to Belichek right now. With this year's weak draft class Belichek would give us a 2nd rounder for him in 2011 and have him ready and waiting in the wings when Brady retires.

Meanwhile, the 2011 pick we get in return benefits us nothing much much because this looks like one of the weaker drafts. Plus we end up with a starting qb making us long for Henne back again.

DB- well its been proven now too much, anyone we let go to an afc east team becomes a pro bowler. Henne, Ronnie Brown, Crowder, would all end up being pro bowlers under Belichek. Often bloggers suggest why don't we trade A for B, as though we are in total control of that. The reality is, another team needs to want to make that trade. That being said NE is LOADED with draft picks next year, and we are short, who knows, maybe he'd give us something decent for Henne, and yeah, maybe 2 years later we'll regret it!

Guys,

Henne isnt yet everything we want him to be but also there arent any better solutions available. Our wishy washy organization whiffed on 2 franchise qb's within the last decade, whiffing on Breeze twice. Almost no organizational survives that no matter how great, let alone us.

So its still Henne for now "until a better solution is available." Until then the topic is just uselessly repetitious and uselessly benign.

HENNE SHOULD STAY WITH DOLPHIN AT LEAST 2 MORE YEARS W/MORE MONEY TO MAKE HIM LOOK LIKE A QB IN THE NFL .

RELEAST THIGGY AND THE HONORABLE CHAD.P .

DRAFT 2 QB'S AMD LET THEM COMPETE FOR THE JOB .

Woa,

I have no problem with letting guys go when we have a better "proven" solution in place. Problem is we let guys go without a proven solution in place. So when they bum out and the guys we let go prosper. We look doubly inept as an organization.

Letting go of guys isnt the primary problem, its not having "proven" solutions to replace them with. Just like some fans are ready to dump Henne now without a proven solution already in place.

Aloco, we don't even have a 2nd round pick this year. And we need two RB's, center, TE, maybe NG, no way we can afford to draft two QB's.

NG - I meant NT

DYING, I AGREE W/YOU @ 8;48

WOA, WE SHOULD DRAFT ONLY QB'S AND RB'S

DB - we think alike. But one mystery never to be resolved is why in the world did we give Welker away??? This addresses precisely your point. He was doing great here, so you trade a player that is doing great?

M.VICK'S SHOW ,,, HE PLAYS AS A QB AND A RB .

ANOTHER PLAYER WAS DOING GREAT ....CAMARILLO

How do you defend against somebody like that?

Used to watch Detroit just to see Barry Sanders in action. = here.

Csmarilo had groin injuries, was 4th string behind an already weak receiver corp. He wasn't doing great and he is not great. He had that famous catch to avoid the 0 - 16 season. Don't let emotion cloud reality.

Woa,

Actually, we dont need 2 rb's just draft Mark Ingram. Ingram's no Chris Johnson but I do believe he can do a better job getting to the "edge" if he has too than Brown does. Also keep Ricky 1 more year or see what's available at backup in final cuts or free agency.

As far as center we may have too stick with what we have until something better is available. NT is stable, Soliai has been far more aggressive than years past. this has been his by far best season as a dolphin.

Forget about drafting a qb. Even if we had the #1 overall pick Luck has faced some of the worst defenses in division 1 college football and Mallett/Locker have huge question marks surrounding decision making. Mallett is also a statue in the pocket. Remind you of something we already have?

As far as TE, if we could sign VJax and we already have Marshall it gives two impact wr's DC's have to game plan for. So we may would be able to get around presently upgrading the TE position by the skins of our chinny chin-chin.

Dan Henning is not the problem...this offensive
line can not RUN block..thats it.

Miami was able to score just fine last year. They overhauled the offensive line with a bunch of turds.

Well DB...I think Ricky is worth keeping another year. Solai is showing up, but we really need someone worthwhile to relieve him, too important not to have depth at NT. Vjax, well basically I don't know. I'm not cozy taking a player another team is dying to get rid of. Fasano is ok, but we need a serious 1st string TE to complement him. We have only one TE, can not avoid getting another.

DB - we think alike. But one mystery never to be resolved is why in the world did we give Welker away??? This addresses precisely your point. He was doing great here, so you trade a player that is doing great?

Posted by: woa | November 21, 2010 at 08:53 PM

Dave Wannstadt was only going to make Welker the minimum free agent offer. He didnt see Welker's importance. Pats could have just trumphed the offer to Welker and got him for nothing. Guess they didnt want to risk someone else trmphing they're offer to Welker so they made the trade with us to eliminate outsider poaching.

It worked, they got thier man and we blew the 2nd rd pick acquired. It was actually very great value for Welker but like always we blew the pick. We seem to always find ways of "doubling our troubles." Thats the real crime in Miami football.
