Miami Dolphins defeat Raiders, 33-17

OAKLAND -- The haters will have to wait another day.

The Dolphins season, on the brink, survives today because the Miami got great efforts all around in this 33-17 victory over Oakland.

They got a great effort from Chad Henne, who threw for over 307 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

They got a great effort from the wide receiver corps that didn't seem to notice Brandon Marshall was missing. Davone Bess had 111 yards receiving on six receptions. Rookie Marlon Moore caught a 57-yard touchdown pass.

They definitely got good work from the defense. Miami had three turnovers. And the Raiders running game was absent today because Miami erased it.

It was a solid victory. The Dolphins are 6-5.

Onward.

This isn't a bad team, we lost to New York and New England, both 9 and 2, and we lost to Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Chicago, all 8 and 3.

Have to learn to win the big games.

Winable games with Cleveland, Detroit and Buffalo. Have to find a way to beat New England and New York. If we do, a playoff spot is very possible.

Henne is still missing some easy throws, but he looked pretty good today.

Defense is only going to improve, this year and next year. Good core of players, good things ahead!!!!

DyingBreed,

Totally agree with you on Henne. Not sure what this guy needs to do before people get off his case. Everyone raves about Big Ben but I don't know what all the buzz is about. I know I will get severely criticized for this but he's not unlike Henne in terms of his size and his mobility. Yes, I know he's won TWO Super Bowls and lead his team to the playoffs but the difference is he's got a better supporting cast and a better OC. Henne is still learning but i see good things in his future.

CraigM,

You arent very football observant are you? Marshall double teams at least kept the attention of the safeties. Almost midway into the game Raiders kept send that safety who would have been occupied by Marshall on repeated safety blitzes.

Thats why Raiders were putting 8-9 men at the line of scrimmage on passing downs today. Remember the announcers kept saying they were sending more rushers than we could block?

The Marlon Moore 57yd td grab made them stop sending the safety. That's what had to happen to make that safety back off. Until then the Raiders werent worried about our recievers beating man to man deep. Meaning you're not playing any of your safeties deep.

MAY GOD BLESS CHAD.HENNE
MAY GOD SAVE HIS KNEE
MAY GOD AWARD HIM W/BIG CONTRACT NEXT YEAR
MAY GOD SHOW MARSHALL THE WAY

He's not staring down receivers half as much as people think. He stared down Fasano today because Fasano was in single coverage. Every QB in the league would do the same thing. The problem is instead of breaking the route to the open portion of the field he stayed on a straight line allowing the defender coverage over the top. Henne was anticipating Fasano to recognize single coverage and get open,,,,he did not do it.

Secondly qbs have things called EYEBALLS. And like most living things with eyeballs we are able to move our eyes left and right in our head without actually moving our heads. So if you see Henne looking straight ahead more times than not he has laready gone through one or two reads in the middle of the field before he has to look outside. Don't believe me just ask any qb or coach.

Now I recognize he's young and does look a little long at times but some of you are way over the top with this critique. It's not nearly as much as the haters want you to believe. He's going to thorw for over 3000 yards this season. If he was staring down his receivers all of the time he wouldn't have those numbers. Also look at the stats on his INTs. More than half of them are thrown when they are trying to come back from a deficit at the end of the game.

I'm not blind, the kid needs to clean up some mistakes. But I'm also not blind to the fact that he has a strong arm, good intelligence, toughness, size, short term memory, and no fear. Lets give him another season before we crucify him.

Spady,

Very funny, Ha ha.

I wasn't talkind about HENNE, I was talking about Henning.

The guy is embarrassing himself in front of a national audience. I feel sorry for him because as much as I dislike him right now, he once HAD a great NFL mind. Out of respect for his acheivements and tenure, SOMEONE should relieve him of duty immeadiately.

Could somebody PLEASE help the legend "OUT"!?!?

DyingBreed,

I missed the first half and I had to watch the game on the Net. I would have missed most of what you were talking about. I get what you are saying and I'm not saying Marshall can't be a useful player. I'm simply saying if there was a chance to get another receiver, to takae advantage of someone else's misfortune, I would do it in a heartbeat.

CraigM,

I have no idea where you get the false idea Fitzgerald will be a free agent. He only sign a richest wr in the nfl jut 2-3 seasons ago. Here's a link of 2011 free agents for you:

http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/features/freeagents/fa.php?option=WR&y=2011

Denny, good post a 8:48pm. I agree with a lot of what you had to say.

Always get the feeling that in this Blog some people don't really want the Dolphins to win. It doesn't matter.

FOR HENNE TO PLAY W/HIS KNEE INJURED IS SOME THING ELSE .

FOR HIM WINNING BOTH LAST 2 GAMES IS SOME THING ELSE .

FOR HIM TO BE JUST MAKING 600,000 IS SOME THING BAD .

MAY GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY ...AMEN

DyingBreed,

It's my understanding he signed a FOUR year contract with the understanding that the Cardinals not franchise him after his contract is up in 2011. I've read it in a number of places that he is free to walk away from the team after the 2011 season. Look for this story to develop as time goes by.

AND SPARANO WAS CALLING THE PLAYS!

IT doesn't matter.

OAK DEFENSE WAS ON THE FIELD ALL DAY THE SAME WAY WE WERE AT THE CHI GAME .

Odinseye,

You lazy @ss go on nfl.com yourself and get the stats. LOL!

What? I can't talk you into doing it for me?

I knew I should've had more kids!

The $ I mean, you know.

CraigM,

I would be interesting in trying to move Marshall for a 2nd and 3rd pick. But only if our 2 rookie wr's came on like absolute gangbusters over the final 5 game stretch. Unless this happens we would cutting off our noses to spite our face.

I would absolutely like to see the 2 rookie wr's end the final 5 games with a big bang! Because we need a 2nd rd pick and it would be great to have 2 3rd rd picks in the 2011 draft too.

GRAIG M , every time you guys call for some to be signed thinking he's going to be the savior it turns out to be a Bust .look at marshall .LET'S PLAY THE PLAYERS WE HAVE .NOTICED MOORE TODAY ?

ODIN, DO YOU LIKE DYING BREED ?

Again, if you had Larry Fitzgerald would you trade him straight up for Brandon Marshall? I know I wouldnt and would be rotflmao at the GM who presented that idea to me.

ALoco,

ODIN, DO YOU LIKE DYING BREED ?

ROTFLMAO! What is this blog, a beauty contest now! Would it help if I promised to end world hunger? LOL.....

just like the 3kings, it'll all come together sooner or later.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

DYING BREED, DID YOU EVER WORKED IN ANY FOOTBALL JOB ?

You're missing the point Dying Breed. He's free to walk away from Arizona for nothing after the 2011 season and the talk is he isn't happy there after Warner leaving. The team is terrible and the quarterback situation is dismal. Fitzgerald's numbers are way down this season. So what's the answer in Arizona? McNabb might help (I know he just signed a big contract but there's an out-clause and it won't cost the 'Skins much to cut him) or find someone else. No I wouldn't trade for Marshall if i had Fitzgerald but isn't Marshall better than gettting nothing back in return and being weak at WR?

HENNE'S RATING FOR TODAY'S GAME........ 100.3

SECOND TIME HE CRACKED TH 100 SINCE THE VICKINGS GAME WHERE HIS RATING WAS 100

HENNE'S RATING FOR TODAY'S GAME......... 100.3
IT'S THE SECOND TIME HIS RATING GOES ABOVE A 100 ,THE FIRST WAS VS VIKINGS

ALoco,

I would say I have quite an extensive football related expertise. When I was mauch youger I quite the reputation at our local night club as king of the sackmasters.

Depending on how friskie I felt I would get sometimes 2-3 sacks on the female persuation per night. Does this properly address your concern?

no DB ,IT DOESNT....DID YOU EVER WORKED IN A FOOTBALL JOB ?

DB, did you ever worked in a football job ?

ALoco,

The one thing missing was the Hail Mary, but I have sacked a hell of a lotta Marys.

SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST.

BTW,,,FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON MIAMI SCORED MORE THAN 30 POINTS WITHOUT MARSHALL .

I know for us to have a chance at the playoffs we have the basically win here on out and everyone seems to think that is a stretch but I don't think it is as unreasonable as most say...I think about before the year started when I looked at our schedule I said to my self that if we could split with the Jets, split with the Pats, sweep Buffalo, and beat the teams we should beat like Oakland, Cleveland, and Detroit at the end of the year then we could presumingly be heading into the playoffs at 11-5 and on a little bit of a high note. Granted I expected the wins against the Jets and Pats to be the home games and not away games but still we won in NY the past couple years and we have also won in N.E. recently.....All i'm saying is don't give up hope just yet...The Jets and Pats have much tougher schedules down the stretch than we do and if we beat them both we are right in it...

ALoco,

Due to my high level of security status in the witness protectection program. I can neither confirm or deny that I have had or do have a real football job. Hope you understand, lol!

Aloco,

Dying Breed seems OK to me. I do agree with him alot, but not every single thing he says.

He forms his own opinions and has the courage of his convictions. Both things I admire in human beings. Although I do have to admit, the admirations over rated when he disagrees with me-LOL!

Why do you ask?

Do you like Dying Breed?

DB, ARE YOU SAYING YOU R VERY HANDSOME AND GIRLS CAN'T RESIST ?

ODIN, I WAS TRYING TO START TRUBLE WHEN I ASKED ,NO THING BAD .

DB,

I'm looking at the Arizona Cardinals website. Fitzgerald signed his last contract (a four year deal) on 3/11/08, that will keep him in a Cardinals uniform through the 2011 season'. As part of the agreement the Cardinals agreed not to franchise him. As things stand right now, he is free to walk away after the '11 season. 'Phins are nuts if they don't at least look into this.

I'll also add he's 27 years old.

IS IT TRUE HARTLINE WAS DEMOTED ?

GRAIG M, WE NEED A GOOD QB W/HENNE AND NOT ANOTHER WR

CraigM,

Sure, AFTER the 2011 season is over with any team would be foolish not too look into it. The same applies to VJax after this 2010 season is over with. Even if you dont have a "burning" need you see if its cost prudent.

ALoco,

No Im not so handsome girls cant resist. It's my talk game and cunningness they cant resist. You dont need to be one of the world's most handsome guys to get girls. But you do need world class game. LOL!

TO GRUDEN LOVERS..........UM IS INTERSETED IN GRUDEN AS HC AND HE'S VERY INTERSTED IN THE UM BUT HE;S WAITING TO THINK ABOUT IT AND THE CHANCE TO COACH IN THE NFL AGAIN.I SAY HE WILL ACCEOT TH UM JOB.

DB- Sorry I wanted to answer your question about Moore, and Wallace but my server is all jacked. I apologize for the double post earlier. Moore gives us some explosion definiley. I think that Moore had trouble getting off jams and thats why he hasn't seen more time. He had no problem with the corner on his td reception. Experience and technique should help him. But it was exciting to see some explosiveness. As far as Wallace goes he does have Marshalls size. He is raw, and could be the type of player that like Marshall flies under the radar on a team, learns the system, then explodes. For all of Marshalls faults the younger guys, especially Wallace because of size similarity are soaking in info.
As far as Marshall being out for the rest of the year, you could be right. This will force the hand of the staff to play these guys. They were great today, and I'm excited to see how they play the rest of the year. As I said earlier, if Marshall hadn't been hurt, Moore probably stays inactive, or sees garbage time.

lol @ DB

MR GRUDEN WILL SIGN W/UM BY WEEKENDS

If it were up to me I wouldn't let Marshall get away unless we get a deal like Jimmy Johnson got for Hershel Walker.

Despite Moores 57 yard TD, I still like Wallace a little more at this point.

Either way, it should be very interesting watching these two develop.

Its a win. Better not lose another game and better hope someone has a meltdown the rest of the season.

You fill your blog with good cheer or whatever it takes to make you feel good and sell advertizing. But don't call us haters when you called Henning out yourself. I get it I really do... as a blog writer, Armando all you have to do is become the instigator and bring the gasoline and matches to the party then play moderator. But me? I'm not forgetting the reality - this team needed to find itself early. The schedule was front end loaded with the games that really mattered and the idiotic leadership (Sparano, Henning & Lee) never let the qb become a leader , thanks to screwing with the offense with gimmicks, yanking the qb in and out in crucial situations, and play calling that begged the defense to stop the obvious. How can players ever look to a guy in the huddle as a leader when he himself didn't even know when was going to be pulled out of the game in crucial situations?

Don't kid yourself - this was Oak, not NE.

I had a dream last night.

In the dream, I was riding in the backseat of a limousine with Gary Coleman. An ostrich was driving.

We paused at a light and Gary looked into my eyes. I blushed.

We asked the ostrich to take us to the Royal Plaza Hotel downtown. We checked in and raced to our suite and had a magical night of passion.

Thank you.

DB,

Pretty sure VJax goes back to being a RESTRICTED free agent after this season. I believe he won't qualify for unrestricted free agency after this season and even if he did the Chargers would be within their rights to put the franchise tag on him. He screwed himself by not taking the Chargers qualifying offer to him earlier this season and it's cost him money and a year of service.

Its a win. Better not lose another game and better hope someone has a meltdown the rest of the season.

I hope Gruden takes the UM job so he doesn't come anywhere NEAR the Dolphins and I can stop hearing his name connected to them.

The guys is a fraud who left the Bucs in a total shambles and had astoundingly awful drafts.

It was Tony Dungy's team he took to the Super Bowl and they fell apart VERY quickly after that first year.

i was there showing my Dolphin Pride and happy about the catches the receivers made! Go Dolphins!

TDMIN STEVENS.... GRUDEN WILL TAKE THE JOB,HE'S A FRUD AND SHOW MAN WHICH WILL FIT NICLY W/ THE UM .

CraigM,

VJax was unrestricted this season. He's unrestricted for the coming offseason. Really see no reason why Chargers would franchise him because of the emergence of some of thier other wr's plus thier qb putting up record breaking passing pace without VJax.

If this were happening and you were Charger GM would you feel pressed to keep an unhappy VJax while your qb is putting up record breaking pace numbers without him?

I hope Gruden never becomes UM coach. Imagine how outrages the fire whoever our HC is and hire Gruden rants would be everytime the Dolphins lose a game.

The further Gruden is from the city of Miami the better off we'll all be. LOL

DB, GRUDEN WILL BE THE NEXT HC FOR UM FOR SURE .HE LOVES THE WEATHER HERE .

DB,

I got another stat for you to look up. This one won't be easy.

I'm not 100% positive, but I'm fairly certain Henne audibles more times today than he has in any other Pro game.

The Question: How many times?

The guy must be reading something if he's audibling.
