Miami Dolphins defeat Raiders, 33-17

OAKLAND -- The haters will have to wait another day.

The Dolphins season, on the brink, survives today because the Miami got great efforts all around in this 33-17 victory over Oakland.

They got a great effort from Chad Henne, who threw for over 307 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

They got a great effort from the wide receiver corps that didn't seem to notice Brandon Marshall was missing. Davone Bess had 111 yards receiving on six receptions. Rookie Marlon Moore caught a 57-yard touchdown pass.

They definitely got good work from the defense. Miami had three turnovers. And the Raiders running game was absent today because Miami erased it.

It was a solid victory. The Dolphins are 6-5.

Onward.

POST OF THE DAY ((( FIST PUMP COORS COMMERCIAL ))) .

Cali fin,

Head to head has always been first tie breaker. If you split both games It's point differential of head to head victories.

If thats tied its division record, then conference record, then interconference record. Trust me on this but still watch out when anyone says trust me on this. LOL

LOL @ Aloco

WE R NUMBER 18 IN MATH IN THE WORLD BUT IF DB TAKES OVER WILL BECOME NUMBER 1 .

IT'S TRUE WE R NUMBER 18 IN MATH AND IT'S TRUE ALSO OUR KIDS ARE RANKED NUMBER 1 WHEN IT COMES TO CONFIDENCE LIKE DB .

Chargers looking very strong!

DB,

Did you really think I would post all that without checkin my facts first???

See below my fine copy and paste job from the NFL's official Tie-Breaking Procedures...

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM
If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.

1) If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker

Now the Division Tie-Breaker...

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION
If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs
1)Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2)Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3)Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4)Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5)Strength of victory.
6)Strength of schedule.
7)Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8)Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9)Best net points in common games.
10)Best net points in all games.
11)Best net touchdowns in all games.
12)Coin toss

Any Questions????

ALoco,

If I were in charge mid level drug dealing would be a 5yr mandatory course and restore us to our rightful places as #1 in the world in practical mathematics.

You would be surprised at the mathematics it takes to be a very successful mid level dope dealer. LOL

so the trend is for the phins is u loose one win one u loose one u win one u loose one u win one u loose one u win one= .500= no playoffs!! U KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!!!

Cali,

I have a question.

If both both teams are knotted up in every conceivable category, wouldn't it be more sporting to do Rock, Paper, scissors as opposed to a coin toss?

Redsky-

If you think it improbable for the Fins to go 5-0 then I ask do you think it is improbable for the Jets to go 1-4 when you look at their remaining schedule???

DB, OUR KIDS AT NUMBER ONE WHEN IT COMES TO CONFIDENCE THANKS TO THE IPOD BUT IN SIENCE WE R AT NUMBER 23 IN THE WORLD .

DB. DO YOU OFFER ANY COURSES IN MATH AND HOW MUCH ?

Funny you should ask Odin because I was just pondering the same thing...lmao

ODIN, DID YOU EVER GOT YOUR GIRLFRIEND TO DANCE A BELLY DANCE FOR YOU ?

Ray Ray,

We get the point brother, take a deep breath.

Whats up with all those symbols? Are you one of those Satan worshippers?

Oh, Yeah, Dying Breed, Under your administration I think I would make the PERFECT "Drug Czar"!!!!

After further thought...that may turn into the longest game of paper, rock, scissor ever...I can see it now both teams refusing to call anything but rock in hopes that the other side foolishly switches to scissor with that side in hopes that the other side silmultaneously switches their call to paper...yet both stay with rock...

Cali fin,

What I was speaking of is if everything is even up until the 4th tiebreaker the 5th tie breaker, strength of victory rules out. Strength of victory is the point differential in thier head to head meeting.

Its very possible to still be tied with tiebreakers 1-4.

If we win out we will be in the playoffs. We win the tiebreaker with the loser of the Jets Pats game Monday night.

All kidding aside, if D-Bess has another game next week like this one, he'll be next in line to begin having double teams. He had 6 catches for 111yds for 18.5ypc.

I stand by the idea the thought that us going 5-0 and the Jets going 1-4 will be the way we make the playoffs...under this scenario we don't have to worry about tiebreakers...

We have the same record as the Colts Chargers with a much easier schedule

Teams that are 6-5:
- Miami
- Indy
- San Diego
- Jax

I'm not suggesting we'll make the playoffs considering the AFC South and West are weaker than East. But at this second half of the season, momentum is a huge factor. Last year's Jets built a strong momentum at the latter half and San Diego have a habit of starting slow and picking up towards the end. The question is can we pick up from this win today?

If D-Bess has another 6 for 11yds at 18.5yds he'll be next in line for double-team respect from league DC's.

I think if we can run next week like we did today and get the Beast back then we become very difficult to beat...

The loser of the Pats Jets game needs to lose 1 more game and we will own the tie breaker. We play both teams head to head

Cali fin,

Even if the Jets go 1-4 we still need to beat otu Ravens or Steelers. Or if not one of them we have to beat out Chargers or Jags. Look of the team standing on NFL.com and you'll see what I mean.

Not to mention having Bess performing like he did today wouldn't hurt either...

Opposing DC's would have to pick their poison... A RB tandem that rushed for 180 yards today or Bess or Marshall. If they can all get it going then look out NFL...

It all starts with the offensive play-calling and we showed today what out winning formula should be...Run early and often to set up the pass.

I'm going to leave all the tie breaking formulas alone for now and just focus on us beating Cleveland next week.

Tie breaking formulas just give me a headache, especially at this point in the season.

A win is a win. It makes me feel so good I'm going to stay up and drink all night!

Just kidding, I was gonna stay up and drink anyways.

AwRight MIAMI!

If we go 11-5 we will make the playoffs.
The teams in front of us have to play each other and the have to play us.

why is there no henne bashing?!?! i hope he proved all you guys wrong.. he has a lot of potential, and is still progressing!! IMO he was todays MVP

If Henne doesn't play we wouldn't have scored. The Raiders put 8 and 9 in the box and blitzed Henne. He had to make quick decisions make accurate throws and hang in the pocket under pressure. They gave our wrs no respect with Marshall out. Henne was GREAT and Bess deserves credit for beating man coverage

Why would we have to beat out steelers or ravens?? I'm conceeding the other WC spot to one of them. That leaves one spot left for the taking and thats where us versus the Jets comes into play...

As far as the chargers or jags...The jags to me aren't very good and IMO wont be in the hunt at season end...the chargers are looking great however they would have to win out to tie us (assuming we win out) and assuming that winning out wouldn't give them the division in which case that would mean most likell that KC will have lost at least 6 games meaning we would beat them out for the WC.

Now lets say the chargers also win out and we are both at 11-5...then yes we would lose to them because there conference record would be one game better than ours...That would mean that they would be on a 10 game win streak and quite frankly that would be fcuking amazing and I would instantly switch loyalties and become a charger fan...j/k

supersport,

I think you might be onto something.

I think Henne was the MVP two weeks ago when he came off the bench for Pennington.

supersport4,

absolutely loved Henne's grit and determinationation playing on what clearly was shown to be a well less than 100% knee. He showed great ability to have a short memory and guide the team to victroy.

Yes Henne still has shortcomings to improve upon. Still in spite of those shortcomings showed up super today. Beginning the final 4 game stretch we are now 1-0!!!

Just about midnight. Time to crank up the guitars!

Valhalla!!!!

Cali fin,

You cant conceed it to them because they are both 8-3 while the Jets are 9-2. Just based on numbers alone the Jets are the longer road to the playoffs. I understand about the Jets tougher final schedule.

However, one positive is the Jets and Steelers play each other and no matter who wins or lose we could potentially benefit either way. This could also make the picture a little clearer if we continue to win out. If not, nothing else matters anyway.

Cali fin,

Should Jets lose to Pats the Jet/ Steelers game will be huge in clearing up this picture. Granted the Jets lose to the Steelers and we beat the Jets in the rematch while also finishing 5-0.

Dumb blog sometimes doesnt post properly so you repost in different words because you dont think the first post went thru. LOL...

Cali fin,

Im not sure but I think I would rather see the Jets beat the Steelers. It gives us a greater shot at beating them out for a wildcard should the Ravens win that division.

I guess I am simply looking at the Jets Steelers and Ravens and to me the worst team of the group is the Jets and they also happen to have to toughest schedule of the three and the happen to be the only team of the three that we still get to play...To me that holds more value than the extra loss the steeler and ravens have...they simply played the tougher games thus far...the games the Jets still have to play...Thats my logic anyway...but like you said we have to do our part or none of this matters

Say the Jets beat the Steelers...what are the two other games you see the steelers losing?

@ Baltimore and @ Cleveland???

Thigpens 8 yard run is what inspired the team to victory, he is fearless. trade henne and fire henning. GO FINS

at game today and most impressed witj three players. 1 chris baker. 2. j amaya. 3. bess

never have i seen such a high concentration of koolaid drinkers. guys relax-- we've got a game this sunday. focus on that

Yea, playoff talk is nice and all if you control your own destiny, but MIAMI DOES NOT so even thinking about would be a mistake. Right now we beat a team that is falling apart in the faiders, we needed to win to maintain longshot hopes and we got it, Thats good and all, but right now the focus has to be at winning AT home which is very tough for us to do this year and i wont say that the Browns will be another notch in the victory card(SEE PATRIOTS game) for refresher on that. I still think we need more help for next year to truly be in contention and we definately need to END dead hennings career here in miami. That way this madness of playing Musical chairs with QBS can finally end!!!!!

marlon moore says welcome to the nfl with a touchdown!

This is what a neutral commentator wrote:
"The Dolphins rebounded from a 7-0 deficit with ease, dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and manhandled the Raiders ... ."
That's from the Oakland Tribune. That's who the Dolphins are now. Henne's comeback is surprising and hopeful. If he works out, and with one more draft, and even a little luck on injuries, the Dophins are there. They will be talked about with the elite teams. That's plenty good enough. Thinking they have to win the Super Bowl every year or they are a failure is ... well, ... stupid and juvenile.

guys!! guys!!
can't we just enjoy this win for a second?!?
they did everything right today! it wasnt a 2 point win against a team we should beat! it was what it should be!
look the pressure was on Henne and he responded! good to know he's got it in him!!
we run we win!! now clevelands turn!! welcome back to work ricky an ronnie!!!

NICE TO WAKE UP AND FIND OUT 4 THINGS;

1-THE OAKLAND COACH GOING TO BE FIRED B/C OUR WIN
2-THEIR DEFENSE STAYED ON THE FIELD AROUND 40 MINUTES THE SAME MINUTES OUR D STAYED ON FIELD VS CHI.
3-GRUDEN WILL BE THE UM COACH.

4-MOORE CAUGHT THE SECOND BALL THROWN TO HIM FOR A TD ,

WELCOME TO THE NFL MOORE.

ANY ONE NOTICE THIGGY WAS NOT VERY HAPPY MAN ON THE SIDE LINE ?

Anyone else still pissed the Steelers (Stealers aka Thieves) got that cheap to call to beat us a few weeks ago. We would be the 6th seed in the AFC and have a much better chance of going to the playoffs. The NFL should change the name to the Pay-offs. Zebras all over Rothlisbitch c*ck.

Andre Johnson is a true man steppin up to those scumbag Titans (dirtiest team in the NFL). WOW nice shot! Best play of the weekend lol.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

I'm with phinsman. Actually, kris had it right yesterday before the game when he documented the feeling on the blog here after each game. After the wins, Miami was the best team in the NFL. After the losses, we were the worst.

Truth is, we beat another team we should've beaten. That's good. We're not as bad as some people here have said. This is a 2nd-tier team, possibly on the bubble of being better. Henne probably played his best game this year (and injured, without Marshall). Sure, he missed some throws, was immobile as ever, and even threw an INT, but also made some great throws, stayed in the pocket when he was going to get blasted, and MOST OF ALL, played the way no QB on the team currently could have. There's NO DOUBT that had Thigpen been in there, this might have been a totally different game than what it was.

So, I'm happy. Not unrealistic though like those of you thinking this is the beginning of a "Playoff run." I know that's out of the picture and not worth thinking about. I'd rather just have a 2 win streak (that's what I'm hoping for). Cleveland is on a roll right now. Very beatable team. Wish we played them in Cleveland, might feel a little better.

Aloco, A little early to be "Huffing" is'nt it?????????

oakland sux boys. the phins should have blown them out. but a win is a win. good job at pounding the oakland d. they were spent at the half... fist pump!.

soooo why do they wait until game 11 to decide they might need to win?

When it can take 11 wins to make the playoffs every single game is important in this league. The coaches need to stress this from game 1.

BTW, The Empress of all Pineapples is sore this morning......, Unable to make it to work... Chalk one up for the Cuban...,The Lil blue pill works overtime boys, My advise is if you need to go the distance and then some, go with the blue pill..THE CUBAN HAS SPOKEN....LOL..

Belchos, R U Serious? This team hasnt even won a playoff game in what, 10 years? We arent pisced because of the lack of Super bowls, we are upset because this team is or has been mediocre for a long time. They havent won a SB in 36 years and havent played in one in 26 years. To say we are upset because we want them to win a SB every year is way off base. We just want them to be consistent. that would be enough for me until they build to a SB. they have been consistently mediocre and sometimes terrible, thats the upsetting part.

Guys, this team is average at best. Average teams finish 9-7, 8-8, or 7-9. Thats where they will end the season...And the mediocrity continues!!

Nice team win...our D was awesome!
I've been known to bash Henne on this blog and must say he was good yesterday....although he took way too many sacks and that INT on the goal line was horrible...should have tossed it away.
We have a RUNNING GAME...
We have awesome Receivers!
YES WE CAN...win out and make the playoffs!
