Namath has 'love' for Pennington move

Joe Namath knows about playing quarterback from his days with the New York Jets and Los Angeles Rams (yes, many years ago). He knows Chad Pennington from the current Miami quarterback's days with the Jets.

And Namath apparently has "love" for the move coach Tony Sparano made earlier this week when he benched Chad Henne and promoted Pennington to the starting quarterback job. At least that's what Namath said today on the Broadway Blitz, his show on Sirius NFL Radio.

“I gave that a lot of thought and I love the move," Joe Willie said. "Not just love it because I’ve got so much respect for Chad Pennington. Hey, man, he’s owned up every time he’s given a chance. The only problems he’s had is that Lady Luck biting his right shoulder now and then, his injuries.

"But as far as this change, I can see coach Sparano to a degree, and I don’t know if he thought about this, but at this point the team, to me, has to be questioning Henne. You know, when they look at the replays of the games and the snaps and the things that aren’t done that you’d think your quarterback might be able to get done more consistently, that might be catching more eyes with the players than in the past."

Hadn't thought of that and it is a good point. And Namath believes the timing is right for the change.

"Now they have a tough opponent coming in this week.  Now is the time to change because they can go back to Henne some other time. I believe Pennington, dealing with any NFL defense, is as good as it gets when it comes to the mind analyzing, knowing what to do, where to go. So he’s giving that offense a better chance … That season is not lost for the Dolphins just because they are changing quarterbacks at this point.  That defense is still good and they are still in the hunt.”

Follow me on, as Jets fans pronounce it, twittah.

And it's hard to say
Who you are these days
But you run on anyway

Don't you baby?

Go Dolphins!

You must be kidding about Joe Namath. He is the closest to Marino that I've seen but without the sidestep; he used to take the full hit, then get up again. Highly respected among players and made Shula very wary each time they played him.

It`s not hard
It`s not far to reach

We can catch a ride to Rock Away Beach

Go Dolphins!

kris you can believe all you want that chad pennington is the difference maker that this team was waiting for all year long and that's your opinion but the sad truth is WHO'S the future now??? You seriously expect henne to just strap it up and go play lights out again next year if he's back, c'mon now, this isnt 2008 again, this team needs a future with a younger QB and pennington aint it!!!!

SuperPhin....calm down...all I did was ask a question wich you answered very poorly....Being traded to one team does not make you a Journey man QB...and what does that have to do with the playoff loss in 08?

Henne doesn't/hasn't streched the field yet this year so how does brining in a QB who is a bit more seasoned to run a short passing game a bad thing? Also you still haven't madr the connection to this being relevant to the 08 playoff loss...lets try your next atempt at a point

Miami is has not changed the OC (he is the same OC from the 08 season and the same OC to lead this offense under Henne) and when you bring in your back up QB its not a "quick" fix...Its called playing the next man up who knows and understands your offense while at the same time sitting your big gun so he can get more knowledge and perhaps get better....however none of those "points" have anything to do with your orginal post about the correlation of the bad playoff game in loss to the Ravens in 08 and the week 9 game to be played Sunday against the Titans...

So no...thats not relevant enough?

I'm not picking on you...just don't pee on my head and tell me it's raining or regurgitate what you have heard or read somewhere else. Be prepared to explain your postion......In this case you have not sir!

ROASTED DUCK W/BRUNES
NEW POTATO SOFFLE
PECAN PIE WITH CREAM MONALIZA .

Canosa, that is a slam on marino. Namath was awful.

did namath won any thing ?

Aloco,Seek help..............

Marc you should buy one . That way the leds will come down faster.

OK, so...No on 3D?

Is there only like 3 of us in here that were fans three years ago? Did everyone forget about the 17 play drives that eat up so much clock but kill any chance of a come from behind win?

That's what we will watch now. ten minute drives that score a td. Then the other team takes 1 minute throws three passes and they score. Now we get the ball back and fail to score. The other team scores and now we're playing from behind. And here comes the dink and dunk. Dinking,,,,,,,dunking,,,,,,,dinking,,,,,,,,two minutes left,,,,,,,dunking,,,,,hey we're at the 15 yard line! Unfortunately it's our own 15 and it will take another 7 minutes to get to the redzone, game over.

I hope this works out. I hope Pennington took roids and now he magically can throw a 15 yard out that won't be knocked down. I hope he can throw a tight spiral over everyones heads to hit his WR (who by the way is never separated from a CB unless his name is Bess). I hope for all of these things and then I remember three years ago when we could only beat mediocre or crappy teams. (Henne beat Green Bay. Henne beat Minnesota before anyone knew they sucked this season. Henne beat Pittsburgh (Don't even tell me we lost that game because that's BS!). Henne beat the Jets twice last year, with no WRS!)

Just saying I hope this is the spark that wakes the whole team up, but be careful what you wish for, history will probably repeat itself.

You just made my point kris, You just stated that in full confidence that henne didnt strecth the field at all that much and now with pennington in you think our Playcalling is miracoulsy going to get better results from a OC who doesnt know an aggressive style offense when he sees one. Yep your arguement is pretty much moot but hey whatever makes you think this team is better for the long hual, right???!!!!!

I'm moving on alone over ground that no one owns
Past statues that atone for my sins
There's a guard on every door
And a drink on every floor
Overflowing with a thousand amens

And it's hard to say
Who you are these days
But you run on anyway
Don't you baby?

You keep running for another place
To find that saving grace

Don't you baby?

Sorry shaggy...Don't get that one?

Denny. I remember the LONG, excrutiating drives

DENNY,

I fully agree with "Almost" everything you said except:

1. Defense was bound to have a collapse game under the every game pressures of trying to support the consistent inadequacies of this horride Henning-led decision making offensive process.

HENNING severely handcuffs not only our offense, he also severely handcuffs what Mike Nolan is able to do defensively too. Only a fool of a DC will continually attack with leads of 3pts or less. One big play loses the game.

2. I believe Sparano as very little say over Ireland's decisions. Benching Henne seems to be an Ireland decision so not to make "public waves" Sparano has to tow the company line publically at least. Seems as late as Monday Sparano thought Henne would be his starter.

If you dont believe check any team info going back to Monday and see what Sparano himself was actually believing.

3. I believe Sparano himself knows HENNING'S hurting the team and Ireland doesnt allow Sparano to over rule Henning's play calling and decision making. Nor will Ireland give Sparano power too dump HENNING.

Sparano seems handcuffed to the unenviable task of just towing the company line in the midst of this total disaster.

aloco, namath won one SB, against shula's colts when they were still in baltimore.

Marc,

Thanks for the welcome back. I was so down I couldn't even post period.

Knuckle ball? Knuckle balls work great as long as its periodically. Start using it every pitch and all the knuckleheads are teeing off on the knuckle balls!

Billy Kilmer? Did somebody just say Billy Kilmer? LMAO my A S S, how about ROTFLMFAO!!!!

Aloco,

It's impossible for me to root for the Dolphins to lose. Impossible period. Even if we're 0-15 and can get the first pick in the draft, I still root for VICTORY. REGARDLESS!

Having said that, whatever it takes to get Henning into the old folks home, so be it. You know better than most that I've been posting these same sentiments since Hennings arrival. We've peaked under the Henning system. We're as good as we can possibly be with him at the helm. So, I won't ever root against MY Dolphins, but with each loss I'll be comforted by the fact that we will that much closer to being HenningLESS!!!!

Oh yeah, did I tell you that I think we should:

FIRE HENNING NOW!!!!

In the evening..I said in the evening.. when taht shaggydog goes downnwn..

And for the record kris, dont take it so personal, i dont, if you disagree with me great, but dont act like your points have any more meaning to it when you describe others as poorly remarked. Your entitled to your opinion and thats all it is , and i definately am entitled to the same so just chill out!!!!

marc, I have to write long posts because I don't have time to sit in here all day. I'm not payed by someone else to play on the computer all day like some of you lucky bastards.

But seriously.

You want me to do this?

And take up an entire page with my opinions?

Because some people have no patience,

to read paragraphs?!

So I'm assuming there aren't a lot of book

readers in here?

Look I'm not going to dumb myself down for people.

If my posts are too long or hard to read don't read them. But I'm not typing like this. I'll just try to keep em shorter!

DB, you may be very close to the truth...good post!

Now the guy is a Poet. Amazing!

kris, I answered your post as well and thought I made a few interesting points. Was waiting for a rebuttal.

marc, tried watching 3d tv at costco and best buy, will stick to my 65" sharp flat screen tv. until they perfect 3d to work without glasses.

Denny,

I agree 100%. The present moves will give the entire Dolphins organization and nation the "SPARK" it needs to finally run Ireland and HENNING the f^ck out of here!

It will also pull the veils from over our dellusional fans eyes to finally see the "light of day."

thak you redsky, why cuban isn't nice as you r .

denny, your posts do look nice from a far .do you have a job ?

Good points about the defense Dying, I hear ya and you're right in that there are going to be some let downs so I should take that back about the D.

Denny Good points and SuperPhin I see your postion a bit better with your 2nd post...but

In my opinion....and I have zero inside information

I like to believe that Henne is being benched more for his lack of LEADERSHIP rather than his average play.

Its his lack of understanding of the game that is a direct affect on his ability to LEAD. If your not sure where Hartline is suppose to be, or you can't tell the O-line what protection to give you, or you can't AUDIBLE to a play (be it pass or run) to beat a look a defense is giving you then you can't LEAD. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Henne's ablity to LEAD is greatly diminished because he can't make plays...and he can't put others in postion to make plays.
He can't put the ball in the endzone, and when we have needed it the most this year he has failed to make a play.

When Henne becomes more football savy he will have the confidence to do all those things and more...he will then become the LEADER of the Miami Dolphins...a postion that was handed to him this off-season and he did nothing to improve his standing,

Odin, yes remember Billy Kilmer? They coined the phrase wounded duck after his throws. Taker though?

Just saying Denny. Some of us youngsters don't have the attention span to read paragraphs. We don't read books, we watch movies, sometimes on TV where there's a commercial every 8 mins for 2 mins.

We're programmed to have short-attention spans

What was I saying?

i didn't know chad.p loves rapping .

You did Denny..I just type slow

Redsky....
I bought the Samsung 63" 8000 Series 3-D tv...its totally different when you get the tv home...it is awesome to say the least. Football is really cool in 3-D..and a ton of movies and programing is awesome as well. And the Samsung can change ANY 2-D content into 3-D content...so you can watch every channel in 3-D if you wanted to. It truely is a better experience at home...i highly recommend it my friend

There is discontent among the players and conflict within management. What has hapenned to this Team? I hope the move to ChadP will help to clear the air.

Cow I saw that in best buy...it looked awsome...is it REALLY worth it?

Kris,

Just as Denny said, sure Henning has his faults as a young qb. Still Ireland has forced Sparano to serve Henne up as the guy to fall on DAN HENNING'S SWORD.

THAT'S WHAT SOME OF US HERE HATE MOST!!!

Oscar...That is another point I forgot to bring up....I am sure the players are saying "take that QB evaluation crap and shove it up your A S S" They want to win now

MIAMI, Fla. (NBC) -- When the new issue of SOBeFit magazine comes out this week, Miami Dolphin fans won’t believe their eyes.
Quarterback Chad Pennington is on the cover.

“It’s certainly different because me being a country boy, I’m not necessarily the urban type,” Pennington said.

So, he's not the "URBAN TYPE", but he jumps around off rhythm to Eminem?

Of course Parcells saw something that made him move out prematurely. What?

The whole point is that The offensive philosphy doesnt change with pennington now calling the plays, it doesnt make him better or worse off than henne was before, right now this team is at a stailmate at what they our hoping to be beyond this year AND that will not change until we change our approach as a team Moving forward without a bull-headed Moron in henning calling the plays from above!!!

Damm cowkilla, that's like an 6K TV...

Balla

Is the 3D really that impressive though?

Just seems a little...Girly

If so, I'm all for it. Just undecided

Im willing to bet we have a "Brad Childress-type" situation in our lockeroom with DAN HENNING.

Just that right now no one's publically admitting it. Have you guys heard any player coming out to "publically endorse" Henning?

Sometimes its the things that arent being spoken that matters most!

Meant to begin: "sure Henne has his faults as a young qb."

DB, actually Ricky Williams called Henning a "GENUIS".

He further went on the say that they (the players) weren't executing...

Not saying I agree, but, you asked

What a joke of course the old fart likes the change He is a die hard Yets fan he bleeds green. Just like us fans would love to see the yets fall on their faces. He doesnt like Henne but loves Sadchease who is not as polished as Henne just has a better O scheme and his supporting cast helps out.

Marc,

Some plasma tv's went as high as $15,000 when they first came out.

I think is $(or lack of it). If you notice(except for CCrowder which they needed desperately) they got rid of the players with big contracts, Grove, Smiley, etc. You cannot build a good football Team by being cheap.

Marc, was that before or after ricky lit up the pipe and went into a meditation secluded state???...just sayin!!!!

Ok Kris. Saw your post.

Aloco, I don't understand the question fully. Yes I have a job but not one that involves staring at a computer for 8 hours a day and making money for someone else to become rich by. I own my own business and work for myself. On the road all day and don't get to a computer until after 5. But as soon as december hits I'm off for 2 months! Take that suckers! :)

Gentlemen....have we all forgotten this...

“I will say, for whatever weight this carries, that Bill Parcells is very disappointed in [Chad Henne],” Carucci said on WEEI on Friday. “But that’s not what made Bill resign his position or anything.”

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/10/bills-parcells-reportedly-disappointed-in-chad-henne/

Hindsight tells me this was more likely than not true.

Marc,

Be nice(lol). You know why we cant take everything Ricky sez seriously. Obviously he's been a nice talent over his career but we all know Ricky's "a little touched."

I'am tired of buying VCR tapes, then buying DVD, then buying Blue ray.... When well it end??????Sorry just venting over Technology.... I might be related to the Uni-bomber Ted Kazinsky...

Kris, Parcells health is declining. I'm almost 100% sure this is why he stepped down.

Martin,

I remember Kilmer and his ducks. I was just surprised anyone else did.

One of my Favorite Aunts was a big Kilmer fan. Needless to say, I used to tease her all the time.

FIRE HENNING NOW!!!!

Well, if it's Henning, ChadP can very easily change the call at the line of scrimmage.

kris, don't need to rehash what's been said, but Denny stole my thunder. I would have said what he did about the blind allegiance.

But look, what's done is done. You're right, Penne is a good QB. His strength is his leadership, and Henne can't touch that. If a change was to be made, Thigpen would have made more sense to me to see what HE has.

But I'm taking your (and others) point-of-view that Henne can come back later and maybe sitting him will do him good. I'm willing to reserve judgment on that decision until we're clear what happens.

But, this isn't a SuperBowl team, Championship team, or even an ELITE team. Not in any respect. So, to me, the only rush to "win now" is to keep Sparano's job (and possibly Henning and Ireland). And I now believe that's a recipe for disaster and a worse predicament than not going to the Playoffs this year.

Best case scenario to me is we don't make the Playoffs, fire (at least) Henning, and see what we got off-season and in the draft.

Worst case is Penne wins most of the rest of the games, we either win a Wildcard spot and get knocked out first round or barely miss the Playoffs, and Ross takes that as a sign we're progressing nicely, and is hands off on doing anything about the coaching or the team for another year. To me, that would be a disaster.

The one thing I liked about this leadership team is when there was something/someone not working, they were axed quickly, and not allowed to fester. Well, I want to do the same thing with the coaches. Because I like most of the players on this team. This is a personnel I think that CAN win at some point, with the right leadership and coaching. But that coaching isn't here right now (for all the reasons everyone else mentioned).

That's it. Not one mention about Henne (by the way, I'm a Michigan man, so that's why I may have an affinity for the kid). But I really could care less if it's Henne or Thigpen or Fitzpatrick from the Bills. I just want a young (or younger, youngish) QB, with years to go, as QB, so they can develop with the team, and not have to worry every year who's gonna be QB. Otherwise, I'm FINE with Penne. But the guy gets hurt (like clockwork) every 2 years or so. So even if he WASN'T 34, he'll get injured at some point this season or next if he remains QB. And I've seen that movie. Don't need to see it again. That's why I'm down on this move.

But I'm willing to at least see what happens, and say I was wrong if it turns out I was wrong.

Oscar, I Hope so....

Denny,

I agree with the reason he left..but what about the comments of being dissapointed in the development of his QB...and parcells doesn't require a lot from his QBs...he just want them to be football smart....If he is dissapointed in Henne its most likely because he wasn't as football smart as Parcells thought he should be after 3 years....that is the RED LIGHT
