Marshall doing well carrying passing game

So now it falls to Brandon Marshall again. Now that the Randy Moss dream came and went, now that the Dolphins kicked the tires on Randy Moss and decided not to rent the enigmatic wide receiver, Marshall is once again the only legit downfield threat the Dolphins can turn to.

Problem is there are whispers that Marshall isn't having a great season. He does, after all, have only one touchdown compared to 23 TDs his past three seasons in Denver -- a 7.6 TDs per year average.

Fine, I'll give you that he's not being as productive with the crooked number. But you must give me that the offensive approach in Miami in the red zone is lacking. The Dolphins cannot figure out how to get Marshall open and free of double-coverage in that area. (Suggestion: Put him in motion every once in a while, people!)

Anyway, aside for the scoring catches, Marshall is actually on pace to have a better season than he's ever had. Check out the graph below.

Marshall is on pace for 107 catches this season. That would be a career high.

Marshall is also on pace for 1,344 yards this season. That would be a career high.

His current 12.5 yards per catch average is higher than he had the past two seasons in Denver -- when he made the Pro Bowl.

Marshall is doing just fine, thank you.

Could he have used the help of having Randy Moss on the other side of the field? Absolutely!

Is the situation hopeless with only Marshall on the team?

No.

I’m so glad Randy Moss didn’t land in Miami, he's bad kharma. Let's reflect here a little. Everyone wanted Joey Porter gone because he played with Joey Porter's best interests always in the front of his mind - not his team's. Goodbye Joey big-mouth, don't miss ya'. At the end of the Jets game Brandon Marshall was unfairly lynched by the media mob (and many so called Dolfans) because he didn't give 150% in the last couple of plays. This after a great game and when he was clearly gassed. Brandon is a proud to pull on a Dolphin uniform and is a model team player, something Moss will never be. (Brandon, you rock brother!!) So when at some point in the near future Moss only gives 50% all game playing for the Fins and he has plenty in the tank and is only playing to suit Randy, are the Monday morning QBs going to say great decision by the Fins getting Moss at that point ? Or would they start agitating for the scalps of the management who let the poison called Randy M to pull on the orange and teal ? And if you didn't think Randy is going to play like a diva - just look at his history. So, I'd rather have a guy on my team like Brandon Marshall who gives his all week in and week out. A guy who will not disrupt the locker room. A guy who will respect the club he plays for, not some over-rated, past-his-prime Diva. It's about time all the Monday morning QB's on this blog accept that this year's Fins are who they are. A group of hard grinding guys who will give every game. They're gonna' win some and lose some, but they will make the play-offs because they have the sheer will to do so. They don't have the talent this year to win it all even if they had added Moss. But they'll learn and grow as a group from the experience gathered over this season and will be a better team again next year. Moss was no investment, he was just bad for the Fins, period. Brandon Marshall, now he’s an investment and someone worthy of following in the footsteps of Dan M, Zack T, Jason T, OJ McD etc, etc

Let's face it, it was a nice dream while it lasted, but being realistic, Moss would be more a distraction in the locker room than a real threath in the field for the Dolphins.
However, Sparano needs to have a serious conversation with our "I'm too scary to throw the ball when it matters" offensive coordinator that I don't even want to mention 'cause I'm starting to hate him.
His playbook is upside down and it is something that our head coach needs to address THIS week if they want to get out from Baltimore with a victory.
Let's see what's the end result of the next 2 games (Ravens and Titans) before killing our post-season hopes.
Regarding Merriman, we can not complain at all, we have to recognize that Mr. Nolan is doing a heck of a job with our defense and we should trust his judgement 100% at this point. I didn't work out, so next!
BTW, nice work Armando. Greetings from Mexico.
Feliz cumpleaños!!!
Arturo

Marshall's going to get his catches. Predominantly underneath. Until Hartline can make a couple catches of 35yds or more DC's will slowly shrink the field and operating room for our offense as the season grows longer.

The inability to stretch the field will really be exposed if we're lucky enough to become a wildcard. Thinking of becoming afc champs with the current offense is a far-fetched pipe dream.

We all have greater odds of picking the correct 6 numbers in powerball.

Randy Moss, Terell Owens,Ocho Cinco, YESTERDAY'S NEWS!

Phins will see what they have beside Bess and the Beast. Then they will find the a Stud in the New Era. Forget those Fools!

SO LET IT BE WRITTEN! SO LET IT BE DONE!
I'M CREEPING DEATH! METALLICA

Go Phins!

Somebody please ask Mike why he looks constipated all the time.

we don't need randy,we have Marshall and Bess,Hartline is coming along to,I know he had a big drop last game, but he's getting better and better each week, and if we would've got Randy it would have slowed down the progession of Hartline, which is something our coaching staff hates,so great move on passing on Randy, but I know we all have to wonder what IF we got randy, hmm

I really wish the cry baby fans that whine and moan every time the Phins don't pick up a player they like and never have anything positive to say about the team to leave and don't come back. Go find another team to chastise. Or another sport.

What dose D C Dolpfin have to say, look forward too that moron posting.

You are right Bill, he is a fool.

Brian Hartline Will emerge as Dolphins deep threat

Have confidence in a young group of WRs that will grow with Henne

I've been telling people the same things about marshall and the passing game. The actual offense is more than fine - the approach in the red zone has not been. More coaching problems than offensive personnel.

We will remain an average team at best until we figure out how to get points in the red zone.

We also have to figure out how to end our habbit of self destruction during games. we are our own worst enemy at times.

The offense will never be successful when opposing defenses only have to defend 20 yards off the ball and we continue to throw for 5 yards when we need 10. Correct these issues and Marshall lives up to expectations.

Pass protection for Henne has been really good. Maybe he has too much time to decide and by then the coverage has caught up with the roures.

hey coach!!!!
when do you feel henne can throw the ball to brandon with two defenders on him in the enzone?
when will you let henne throw a bomb, say 50 to 60 yard to brandon? for that matter any other receiver?
that's quit a box you have henne in !! i guess it's better to keep the fire in him, then to let him be a leader, an fire the TEAM UP.
I guess we'll see that henne next year?? as well as a fast wide out to go with marshall, that we get in the draft!!!!
there's aways next year
hey coach!!!!
let't see what henne's got??? maybe when were out of the playoff picture!! NO FIRE NO PLAYOFF'S
ED THE FAN

I think it was smart not to bring in moss and I also think the Offense will get better, at the start of the season I thought we would be one of the top Offenses in the league and I think we are heading in that direction but I did expect the running game to be much better that it has shown so far this year. I can see them getting better every week, not just quite there yet, and I don't understand the running game maybe it is the new lineman but they seem to pass protect pretty well hopefully they can get it figure out,GO FINS if we can beat Baltimore it would be HUGE

Hey everybody calm down.
We have Dan Carpenter, what else do we need.
As long as Henning is calling the plays we will continue to struggle with or with out Moss.
I think when the Dolphins start drives, they should show Carpenter warming up on the sidelines, the end to every drive 3 points, and coach looking like he just won the superbowl cheering for the 3.

our passing game sucks because we dont try!! In this league you must be able to take shots down field and take risks miamis coaching staff mainly sparano and henning are too conservative and just wont do that! As a result defenses see this and they just double marshall and our other receivers bess hartline are not deep threats or even intermediate so were a dink and dunk team!!! The bottomline is miami needs a better modern coaching staff that understands how TODAYS game is played and how to win not get into field goal position and fist pump for three pts!! Personally i think sparano and co should be embarrased with their approach i mean sparano fist pumps and celebrates for field goals even if were behind!!! Does that signal a fiery competitor who wants to win? I dont think so!!

Yes i agree. The over excitment over 3 points is starting to annoy me to. And i totally agree on Henning, he is old and washed up , we need fresh thoughts on offense.

We did not get Randy, O’Well - Let’s move on…. The offense will never move to the next level if Henne does not throw the ball down field! This team is very conservative, too conservative. If you guys recall all the hype surrounding the Marshal acquisition, how Henne will finally have the WR to throw the ball too down field – Where did that go? I cant comprehend how Henne (either by choice or not allowed) does not throw the ball down the field a lot more than he does. Throw the ball up and let Marshal go get it, especially in the RED ZONE! Double coverage means nothing when you have a beast that can out jump and is taller than 99% of the defenders you play against. Come on guys gain some balls and get aggressive, let’s really see what this offense has. We have a horse in Marshal but we are not allowing him to run full speed!

he will get his TDs I have no doubt. haters keep hating. Marshall feeds on ur hate

Did we get Nate Ness from waivers or what?

lets gooooooooooo!!!!!!! bytches. 3 games in 11 days.lol

Marshall is having a very good year both on and off the field. i love this guys passion to be the best, to win... not to mention his play.

if they only knew how to get him the ball, this guy is a big play receiver. our coaches have to (not saying anything new here) call better plays for him. this guy saw the same type coverage in Den.

I think it was stupid, short-sighted ^& representative of fatal lack of imagination & aggression to pass on Moss. He would have helped immensely, and he will help Tenny edge us out in the wildcard race.

Any perceived deficiency in Marshall's game is the fault of henning & sparano, not Brandon

Our offense blows as of now, FGs notwithstanding.

it doesnt matter how many great receivers we accumulate. the powers to be dont know how to use them. a good college offensive minded coach would;maybe thats where we should look. its obvious that we play for field goals;that spells doom in todays NFL.

Marshall is having great season.

Happy with Marshall, Simply The Bess, Hartline and Wallace

Thats it , we play for field goals ...thus the Sparano fist pump every time we get one.
I thought he preached touchdowns all last week and then during the game, he fist pumps for a field goal...not good coaching.

watching Inside the NFL last night and watching the Pats/Vikes highlights... Moss was dropping F Bombs left and right towards his teammates and coaches, towards the Vikes sideline "what the F are you doing.... who the hell would want that on their team?!

Dear Mr. Salguero

So I have thinking about Coach Sparano's right arm fistpump motion and how it is some how mystically connected to Dan Carpenters right leg kicking motion.

You will notice that every time Dan Carpenter swings his right leg in a field goal motion that automatically Coach's right arm goes into a fistpump motion....its like they are connected at the hip

I guess my question is what came first ? The fistpump or the field goal...sorta like the chicken or the egg...could you answer that also ?

Soiled :)

it helps when we go deep with the ball for our receivers to actually catch. Hartline and Fasano do you guys hear me?? No more dropsies

Awesome medical condition...i never saw the connection, but you may be right

BTW Carl Dorrel used to be University of Colorado offensive coordinator in the mid 90's before he went to UCLA as head coach. CU offense was pretty good back then. How about firing Henning and have dorrel be OC receivers coach

Our coaches would rather waste downs on the wildcat then throw a ball over the defenses head to loosen them up. They are brilliant! Not!

Mr. Henning might be a genius, Ricky, but he has to show it.

Genius,,,just ask Dan Carpenter.

Agree on the dropsies BoulderFinFan

Believe Henne had at least 4 receivers drop easy catches last week

Our team is coming together right now

Win in Baltimore will Pump UP the Troops and we are back in, esp with Detroit upsetting the Jets!

lol soil

Yes, We Can!

I don't know, there's something about Joe Flacco that makes me think he can be had. I'm not sure if it's his release, accuracy or other quarterback attibutes. For sure he is Big but not Ben.

Anyone who says this pass game is weak needs to get a clue. We are 12th in the NFl in avg pass yards per game. That is plenty good enough.

FIST PUMP NATION!

And yes, we did get nate ness on waivers. he wasn't bad in pre season but got raped last week in the raider/seahawk game prompting his release.

HAARP steered EarthWake comes in shakes the foundation in Baltimore, Maryland and earns 3 more Sacks on the Ravens

Dear Mr. Salguero

Just one more then I'll stop

With the advancements in todays medical procedures look for Coach Sparano to have his bad or failing O.C. removed in the off season and replaced with a new one.

When a Coach's O.C. starts failing there bodies right arm automaically twiches in a fistpump motion.

Its a minor procedure having a Dan Henning cut out.

Coach Sparano will be back to health and raising both his arms above his head in a tochdown motion in no time.

Soiled :)

Fish heading for 0-3. 3 games in 11 days. Morono with limited prep time. Two of the three against teams comming off the bye. Two of the three are home games.

Fish @ 4-6 mid November.

Soiled,
keep writing....you are cracking me up.
Its all so true, i looked it up in the medical books...its on webmd.

I'd like to see Cobbs & Wallace utilized more in the red zone. Cobbs would be a more effective safety valve than Polite & maybe Wallace could line up at TE once in a while to get a mismatch. Too bad we apparently have only 1 TE. Nice management of the roster there boys.

Reflecting(no conspiracy but fact). The League in this modern($) era of football strives for parity among Teams. I agree that having a dynasty can get boring(unless you belong to that dynasty). So, who knows what went through behind closed doors in Moss's case?

Randy Moss is a Brandon Marshall wannabe.

good article

Yeah, we had like 6 TE's in training camp...

I don't see why they'll cut a player when they don't perform and cut the ST guy when he was embarrassed yet Henning is still around...

That leads me to believe that Sparano doesn't think it's Henning, or he'd cut him on the spot.

The challenge will be all these young guys learning a new offense, but, IT CAN'T BE MUCH WORSE

Imagine having those 2 big dudes along with Bess in the slot. Not even Dan Henning would have stopped us!(I promised not to talk about this anymore, but failed. Shame, on me).

I think Marshall has been just as advertised. Couldn't be happier with him. His lack of productivity in the red zone I lay squarely on the "H's". Hopefully the breaks will go our way and we'll make a run to the playoffs this year.

Next year, providing there is a next year in the NFL, we'll have a chance to draft or acquire a young deep threat and shore up other positions. Obviously Ireland is aware of the need if he was contemplating Randy Moss. Combine that with getting the AFC West, NFC East and probably a 3rd place schedule, and we may be looking at a serious title run.

There is a reason all but one team passed on Moss...his head is out of the game.
Physically he is all there, mentally he has checked out.
OK...Moss distraction is over, let's focus on beating the Ravens this Sunday!

Sparano has said that the problems in the red zone are due to lack of execution. OK, Coach. But a little imagination never hurts, yes?
