The Dolphins are exploring other quarterback options now because Chad Pennington is expected to be out for the remainder of the season, and one of the names prominent on Miami's list of replacements is former first overall selection JaMarcus Russell, a team source said Sunday night.
No workout has been set up yet. But Russell is on Miami's list and the team is expected to reach out to him in the next 24 hours. Russell recently had a tryout with the Redskins. He weighed in excess of 260 pounds when he worked out with the Redskins two week ago despite the fact he is being mentored by former NBA player and coach John Lucas.
The Dolphins have other QBs also on the list and will go through those names as well. The team, obviously, can also look at quarterbacks currently on other team's practice squads.
Other QBs that will be under consideration are Patrick Ramsey, Todd Bouman, Sean Canfield, and Brian St. Pierre. This is obviously not a complete list as the Dolphins aren't calling reporters and sharing their intentions.
Ramsey, it must be remembered is represented by Jimmy Sexton. Sexton represents Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano. Hmmm.
ESPN is reporting former Broncos QB Tom Brandstater will be among the players Miami will try out.
No, Pat White is not an option. Yet.

PAT WHITE .ANY ONE ??
Posted by: ALoco | November 14, 2010 at 06:17 PM
Makes sense. The options are few and far between. If he doesn't pan out at QB maybe we could move him to OL.

Please tell me you are kidding.

Posted by: odinseye | November 14, 2010 at 06:27 PM
ROFLMAO!!! JAMARCUS RUSSELL???? We loose a defensive lineman? Old man Marino would be better than Russell.
Posted by: Drew | November 14, 2010 at 06:28 PM
Dear Mr. Salguero
Please tell me your joking....please
Posted by: SoiledBottom | November 14, 2010 at 06:28 PM
Jamarcus Russel. You guys thought Benching Henne was desperate. I know it's just a workout, but C'mon. Jeff Garcia would be a guy that we should take a serious look at. A prove proffesional that could fill in if we needed, This is a big problemo, if the Henne rumors are true
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | November 14, 2010 at 06:29 PM
Jamarcus Russell?!! Sounds like the only real significant injury has come from the front office. Surely they must of had some sort of head injury to suggest J.Russell.
Posted by: mark | November 14, 2010 at 06:30 PM
Dear Mr. Salguero
Now would be a good time to sell gold and buy Nyquil

whats wrong with thigpen?! the most exciting this anemic offense has looked in the last several games has been when he was qb'ing
Posted by: amsmith965 | November 14, 2010 at 06:32 PM
Jeff Garcia injured his ankle today. Plus hes got a contract in the UFL. These are dark times for Miami Dolphins Football my friends, we were only good QB play from being a solid contender, but now total uncertainty . What should we do in the upcoming off season? STAY STRONG, WE'LL GET THROUGH IT! This Franchise needs a spark at center. Too much inconsistency in the most important spot in your roster. It seems that since Dan Marino retired, we have not been able to get it right.
Posted by: Sergio | November 14, 2010 at 06:32 PM

Posted by: Osi HumanUrine | November 14, 2010 at 06:35 PM
i'd like to refresh everyones memory of last years steeler game. henne was out with eye inj. and pat white got knocked out in the 4Q. thigpen comes in 4thQ with score 27-10 pitt. he throws 2 td passes to get it to27-24; then he is driving again throwing a pass to ginn at the 2 yd line. ryan clark shoulda drew a flag because he's lying on ginns back before the ball arrives. ginn argues but clark is awarded an INT to stop the drive. pitt goes on long drive to run out the clock. thig throws last sec desparation pass that was int. damn good comeback for a guy with no practice reps. with 1st team ever. spark.
Posted by: greg z. | November 14, 2010 at 06:37 PM
thigpen is better than russell!!!! i hope they have other prospects in mind....not sure about russell....who can advise?
Posted by: redsky | November 14, 2010 at 06:38 PM
Once again the jinx of being the only undefeated team in the NFL history as well as the jinx of having enjoyed the play from arguably the best QB in NFL history has struck again. We only needed good QB play. All the pieces are there, Solid O-Line, experienced running backs, talented wide receivers, solid, talented and young defense, and experience all around. Damn. Really hurts.
Posted by: Sergio | November 14, 2010 at 06:39 PM
thigpen CAN do it.
Posted by: amsmith965 | November 14, 2010 at 06:40 PM
Maybe Henning can get Kurt Warner to unretire......
Posted by: sag58 | November 14, 2010 at 06:41 PM
I don't believe Miami is trying to get a 3 string QB here guy. (if that is what you are thinking) Everything I am reading shows Henne will likely be done for the season also... We need a Backup AND a 3rd string QB if Henne is done...
Posted by: Derek4Dolphins | November 14, 2010 at 06:42 PM
Greg, look up Thigpen's stats from last year. He had one touchdown and two picks.
Posted by: KBrad | November 14, 2010 at 06:43 PM
Thigpen is better than Russell.
Posted by: Utdolfan | November 14, 2010 at 06:43 PM
How can u not see before this game that Thigpen was possibly the best one of the three. If ur one of the ones who thought he was the 3rd best, All i gotta say is....CMON MAAN!!!!!
Posted by: finatic | November 14, 2010 at 06:45 PM
anyone they bring in will be behind Tyler Thigpen
Posted by: zach | November 14, 2010 at 06:45 PM
we all like penne but he should have never been resigned unless we plan to stay with the "dink and dunk". as an observer of camp practices a casual fan could tell his arm was totally "gone". shot! he couldnt throw a ball even 15 yds with any zip at all. it was sad. sparano/ireland are sleeping when it comes to personell. really.
Posted by: greg z. | November 14, 2010 at 06:45 PM
am i the only one that sees they're trying out russel to be a backup to thigpen? Hello are you guys idiots? Quit freaking out, ireland is not that stupid.

D4D,
Agree with you.
They are looking for depth.
Unfortunately, they are forced to scour the depths.

haha superPHIN add rex ryan and his ugly ass brother to that list. I hope to see them both dolphin QBs before russell.

Stop debating & get behind Thiggy:
NFL RedZone Channel reporting Henne out w/ season-ending injury.
Posted by: The Seer | November 14, 2010 at 06:48 PM
Dear Mr. Salguero
The Odd couple
On November 14, Jamarcus Russel was asked to remove himself from his place of work. That request came from his coach.
Deep down, he knew he was right, but he also knew that someday, he would return to football.
With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the home of the Miami Dolphins Dan Henning.
Sometime earlier, Hennigs team Carolina Panthers had thrown him out, requesting that he never return.
Can two unwanted men share a Team and Purple drank without driving each other crazy?
Soiled :)
Posted by: SoiledBottom | November 14, 2010 at 06:50 PM
They should get Jeff Garcia for now...le Pat White be the 3 if Henne is done...
Posted by: Mike S | November 14, 2010 at 06:50 PM
This team is snake-bit any news on other injuries? Thigpen can be good but they have other issues.
Posted by: Mike S | November 14, 2010 at 06:53 PM
I watched Pennington warm up and he was throwing the ball great. It did not have the Henne Zip..Of Course.. but from the Club seats it had plenty of velocity to get it done... he laid some beautiful passes to Marshall in practice... But, Alas, He was a glass rod in a bull ring... Much to do all week about NOTHING!... including all the Bile and backwash about Moss... What a POS that loser is! 1 catch 17yards... 2 games -vs- Miami... Moss is AWESOME!!
Posted by: Derek4Dolphins | November 14, 2010 at 06:54 PM

Posted by: javin bur | November 14, 2010 at 06:55 PM
zach, i kinda remember that throw to marshall. i remember it being "a wounded duck" jumpball that marshall grabbed. believe me as much as i like penne his arm was toast.
Posted by: greg z. | November 14, 2010 at 06:56 PM
PLEASE DON'T BRING FAT LAZY ..JARMARCUS R...Also is Richie igonito the weak link in our oline ..He's the one that let that lineman hit Henne..As for thigpen i hope he's start\s for the rest of the year ..And they see if he can be the guy next year.If not Henne will be there..As for Pennighton poor guy to go out this way..lifes not fair!
Posted by: BLACKCEROTE | November 14, 2010 at 06:56 PM

Let me tell All u so called Pro Football Freaks!

DYING BREED says, "Anyone reporting Henne out for season as of now are liars. Didnt you guys read the blog topic where Henne himself says he's scheduled for a mri at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning?
Cant be ruled out until the mri results!!!"
Quit smokin' yo' crack. When you have MULTIPLE sources reporting the same thing, you can bet the report is true. Henne is done for the year.
YOU JUST BEEN JOE MOMMA'D, HO!
Posted by: You been Joe Momma'd | November 14, 2010 at 07:01 PM
WOW!! you guys act as if Russell would start the next game or the rest of the season!!! if you guys think Henne is the answer, you are FOOLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the guy is a robot in the pocket, never look B. Marshall's way!! by the reactions of several players(marshall and fasano for sure) they didnt look to pleased with Henne!! i know Marshall was about to exploded!!! you cant have a guy QB who top DBs(Ed Reed)say is easy to read, that alone tells me he dont look off DBs and is locked on one target!! this coming from a guy who started his whole college career at a major college(never beat ohio st. that says a lot to me)!! we gotta roll with Thigpen! more mobile and seems to have a better feel for the game at this point(and he came off the bench)!! if im to live with Henne's bone head mistakes and robotic nature in the pocket, i can live with Thigpen occasional int too!! yes you take a look at Russell what could it hurt!!!!!!!
Posted by: Dolphins4Life73 | November 14, 2010 at 07:02 PM
Patrick Ramsey? Is he available to be the backup? Anybody other than Russell.
