The Dolphins are exploring other quarterback options now because Chad Pennington is expected to be out for the remainder of the season, and one of the names prominent on Miami's list of replacements is former first overall selection JaMarcus Russell, a team source said Sunday night.
No workout has been set up yet. But Russell is on Miami's list and the team is expected to reach out to him in the next 24 hours. Russell recently had a tryout with the Redskins. He weighed in excess of 260 pounds when he worked out with the Redskins two week ago despite the fact he is being mentored by former NBA player and coach John Lucas.
The Dolphins have other QBs also on the list and will go through those names as well. The team, obviously, can also look at quarterbacks currently on other team's practice squads.
Other QBs that will be under consideration are Patrick Ramsey, Todd Bouman, Sean Canfield, and Brian St. Pierre. This is obviously not a complete list as the Dolphins aren't calling reporters and sharing their intentions.
Ramsey, it must be remembered is represented by Jimmy Sexton. Sexton represents Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano. Hmmm.
ESPN is reporting former Broncos QB Tom Brandstater will be among the players Miami will try out.
No, Pat White is not an option. Yet.

agreed tyler cant manage a game as the number 1 qb better off as backup...
HENNE played well today hit some passes...i think he looked fired up and was out to take back his starting job...its a shame if hes out for the year...unfortunately we will be wishing he didnt get hurt..

And I've never seen so many people happy when their team just lost their #1 and #2 qb plus possibly their best attacker along with their best blocker.
Simply amazing. Yeah, I'm the irrational one.

TRYING TO TELL EVERYONE EVEN THOUGH ITS NOT REPORTED DAN HENNING GOT A REALLY NASTY PHONE CALL FROM STEPHEN ROSS AT HALFTIME.
AFTER HALFTIME OUR OFFENSE HAD A TOTALLY STRANGE LOOK. IT ACTUALLY LOOKED LIKE A NFL OFFENSE. ROSS THREATENED TO COME TO BOOTH AND FIRE HENNING ON THE SPOT IF HE DIDNT GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!!!
YOU GUYS THINK IM KIDDING BUT IM SERIOUS AS A HEART ATTACK. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE OFFENSIVE LOOKS YOU SAW TODAY UNDER HENNING BEFORE?

Colt Brennan is coming to Miami, don't be surprised...

Here is someone who they should try out.........Hows about Colt Brennan?

thought henne the hero was scheduled for MRI at 630 pm? 6 am?? let him sleep in!!!

Dolphins are hoping to sign Patrick Ramsey Monday.
Possibly our best option.
Posted by: You been Joe Momma'd | November 14, 2010 at 08:40 PM
Jeff Garcia and Daunte Culpepper are both playing in the UFL right now (and actually both look decent) so I doubt they can just break those contracts.
Jamarcus Russell would be a huge mistake. They would be better off getting an unsigned QB that just came out of college in the last two years.
Posted by: FinsUp | November 14, 2010 at 08:45 PM
greg z. I support the team. I don't put too much into one player I am a fan of the Miami Dolphins and if they do well I'm happy

You and a lot of others have argued non-stop since Henne was benched. You argued Henne was the one vs. Penne supporters. Go back and read your own comments.
The truth is, Henne has lost the confidence of his team and Sparano realized it. And that among other things, was why he was benched.
Here's some hints: Fasano giving him a WTF look last week when he blew a TD pass. Fasano having a few angry words with Henne today. Marshall finally getting a gut full and throwing the ball at him.

Bring back Dan Marino! It's not too late!

Denny-
Quit being a sour puss. We found a starting QB who has a chance to take us to the playoffs.
Long and Wake, at WORST, will miss a game, and only 1 game because of the short week.
And we just beat a very good team in a pretty dominating fashion, without have to freaking SWEAT one out for a change! Our QB actually sprinted for a 1st down on a creative bootleg, showing speed and elusiveness to CLOSE the game for us. We actually had a redzone TD pass today. We had a really good showing from a rookie named Reshad Jones. Phil Merling is likely coming back. Thigpen is the best suited player on the roster to deal with not having Long for a week, due to his speed and scrambling. Lastly, the Bears have the worst O line in the NFL. This is the best team for us to go against without Wake, if he in fact doesn't play.
WOE IS MEEEEEEEEE... THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING! EEK! EEK! RUN EVERYBODY! RUN! THE SKY IS FALLING!
So get off your high-horse and revel in the win with us. How about that?
If not, then just sit back and YOU CAN BE RE-JOE MOMMA'D OVER AND OVER, HO!
Posted by: You been Joe Momma'd | November 14, 2010 at 08:48 PM
Djrob... Henne played well today? No, he didn't. He "flashed", as he always does. But no TD's, and a pick. Missed on a 3rd down which was an easy throw on a short 3 yard out pattern, that would have been an important 1st down. Missed a wide open Brandon Marshall down field by overthrowing him, instead of leading him in his route. Under threw Hartline for what would have been a sure TD on the flea flicker. He was late on his throw for the fade to Marshall. He stalled in the redzone for no TD's, AGAIN. He showed how he still lacks instinct in the pocket, holding the ball too long... which contributed to his injury.
I don't want to give up on Henne. But I think he needs at least a couple more years of grooming to work on his accuracy, consistency, and decision making. He showed more of the same ol' same ol' this week. Some good, some bad, and highly inconsistent... well, except for consistently being bad in the red zone.
YOU JUST BEEN JOE MOMMA'D, HO!

Didn't realize it until I read your comment but you're right. We actually beat a team. Not just barely winning but we beat a team. 1st time, long time. Congrats Miami Dolphins.
Posted by: cocoajoe | November 14, 2010 at 09:01 PM
Oh, and BTW guys... I said before word is Long separated his shoulder. Wrong. Word is he DISLOCATED his shoulder. This is much better news! Separation means ligament damage... dislocation means bone lost contact with shoulder blade, but usually no damage to ligaments.
Let's hope for the best!
Posted by: You been Joe Momma'd | November 14, 2010 at 09:02 PM
Yes, Colt Brennan deserves a chance here, he's a winner.
Posted by: Sean | November 14, 2010 at 09:03 PM
I'd like to see PAT WHITE as 3rd QB. He was completing passes before he was cut.
He already knows the playbook.
Maybe with a second chance Culpepper can do what the Fins expected the first time around. His knee should be better by now.
Posted by: Swamy | November 14, 2010 at 09:16 PM
We are trying to sign Patrick Ramsey, AS I WRITE. They want him signed by tomorrow...
So, we are basically looking for a 3rd QB now.
Posted by: You been Joe Momma'd | November 14, 2010 at 09:24 PM
Actually Joe Mamma, Henne DID throw a touchdown. I am not arguing one way or another... just stating the fact.
Posted by: FinsUp | November 14, 2010 at 09:41 PM
Swamy, Culpepper is playing for Sacramento of the UFL. In fact, he had a big game last night. But either way, he is unavailable, as well as, Jeff Garcia who plays for Omaha of the UFL.
Posted by: FinsUp | November 14, 2010 at 09:42 PM
Not the best time to be looking for QBs, Ramsey may be the best bet:
"Other prospects [besides Brandstetter and Russell] from around the league include practice-squad quarterbacks Rhett Bomar (Giants), Jonathan Crompton (Patriots), Hunter Cantwell (Ravens), Nate Davis (49ers), Graham Harrell (Packers), Thaddeus Lewis (Rams), Tyler Palko (Chiefs) and Brian St. Pierre (Panthers), who can all be signed to Miami's active roster.
The United Football League also offers a few players with NFL experience, including Brooks Bollinger (Tuskers), Daunte Culpepper (Mountain Lions), Jeff Garcia (Nighthawks), Matt Gutierrez (Nighthawks), Josh McCown (Colonials) and D.J. Shockley (Nighthawks)."

The CFL is down to its semi-final, only 4 teams left. Best CFL QBs now available are Kevin Glenn (only 5'10"), Ricky Ray (more INTs than TDs), and Cleo Lemon (yes, that Cleo).

NBC reporting that Fins are looking to sign Ramsey on Monday, also looking at Chris Sims.

Looks like Colt Brennan will not get a shot.

FinsUp- You are correct sir. My bad. Forgot about the Cobbs TD.
Hey You Just Been Joe Momma'd, YOU JUST JOE MOMMA'D YO-SELF, HO!
Posted by: You been Joe Momma'd | November 14, 2010 at 09:55 PM
Henne himself just said he dislocated his knee cap. Rotoworld is reporting the same...
OUCH.
Posted by: You been Joe Momma'd | November 14, 2010 at 09:56 PM
Joe Momma just brought out the "Ho"... reminds me of Hacksaw Jim!
Posted by: FinsUp | November 14, 2010 at 09:58 PM
In this absurd situation I think Russell would be interesting if only to hear the howls of the posters. In terms of his character, I remember tons of people claiming that Brandon Marshall was impossible to work with and the Vontae Davis was a thug - yet both of them have been great players. All depends on the circumstances.
Posted by: student1776 | November 14, 2010 at 10:00 PM
Problem with Jamarcus Russell is if he would ever "workout" just once during the offseason he would probably still be in Oakland or wherever the hell they play now.
Posted by: DyingBreed | November 14, 2010 at 10:01 PM
Well, with kneecap dislocation - in the best case scenario (meaning no damage to bones and tissue), they immobilize it for at least 3 weeks to stabalize the kneecap back in place and then begin physical therapy. Something tells me that Henne is done for a while.Get Cleo Lemon to back up Thigpen.
Posted by: FinsUp | November 14, 2010 at 10:05 PM
I like Thigpen and I'm glad we have him. That being said, I'd take just about anybody for depth over JokeMarcus Russell. Guys like Josh McCown (I know he's not great but he's better than some other guys looking for work), Nate Davis (on the 9ers p-squad) or Zac Robinson (Seahawks p-squad but he was also in camp with the Pats).
Posted by: T. Martin (Burbank, CA) | November 14, 2010 at 10:10 PM
I've read elsewhere that PAT WHITE is an option (I guess for 3rd QB) but another article said he couldn't play because of the Royals contract.
Which is true?
Posted by: Swamy | November 14, 2010 at 10:13 PM
I found this article, "According to Pro Football Talk, the Royals understand that White may want to give pro football another shot and will remain open to the idea of his playing both sports."
So it seems PAT WHITE would be available if the FINS want him back (assuming he wants to come back).
Posted by: Swamy | November 14, 2010 at 10:19 PM
Recovery on a kneecap dislocation is 3 to 5 months. He is done for the year...
Posted by: You been Joe Momma'd | November 14, 2010 at 10:19 PM
Signing JaMarcus Russell would advertise desperation on Miami's part.
I like FinsUp's suggestion. Look to the UFL (or the CFL for that matter) There has to be somebody out there that has proven his abilities at one point or another. I'm still unsure what Russell ever did at Oakland.
btw - "WoodStrock" has just been replaced by "Penny, Henny & Thiggy"

THE CURSE OF JOE ROBBIE CONTINUES!!!!!!!
Posted by: socalfinfan | November 14, 2010 at 11:54 PM
Thigpin is the best of these 3 qb's. With that said, we still need a solid #2 guy. Call KURT!
Jamarcus Russell would be a great pick up...maybe for Jake Long!
Maybe we could get Steve Deberg to come back.
Posted by: Zink | November 15, 2010 at 01:07 AM
Another thing...with alot of sub-par qb's around the NFL, how is it that Jeff Garcia is without a team? I hear he was injured...but he is the one if possible.
Posted by: Zink | November 15, 2010 at 01:16 AM
Thigpen has the best future of all three qb's he may be a loose cannon at times but will out perform henne. he is the most mobile and seems to provide the spark the fins need. I truly believe he will be the long term answer the fins need. Give the guy a chance. Fins 28 Bears 17.
GO FINS.
Posted by: blindref | November 15, 2010 at 01:30 AM
They'll sign a couple of QB's to hold them over. The more important thing at the moment is Jake Long, and Cam Wake. Hopefully both these men will not miss any time.
Posted by: Mike | November 15, 2010 at 01:54 AM
Who says THIGPEN is hit and miss??....thats RUBBISH....he makes plays....and he can pass or run..very mobile QB...his interceptions are no more or less than FLACCO or SANCHEZ or any one else...but he can get it into the endzone..
This guy has SOMETHING SPECIAL....BWALLS...!!!
Thigpen will be a SUCCESS...Henne will take time but will also succeed....both really good young prospects.....I love Reshad Jones...brings the wood evry time....with a little experience he can dominate...we found a player today....

Hey guys....its early.....get outta bed and BLOGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Posted by: bigalfy | November 15, 2010 at 03:09 AM
My only concern now is START TYLER THIGPEN, who should have been the starter in the beginning! Wake-up Miami! If you want another quarterback, draft one next year to follow Tyler! Look where ever Parcels has been the quarterback gets replaced and the team becommes a winner, with the exception of New Orleans, where the best Parcels coach in Dallas went!
Posted by: victor barney | November 15, 2010 at 08:00 AM
C'mon guys. Do you actually think Jeff Ireland is going to tip his hand to the world????
Remember two years ago he said Chris Long "would be the pillar of your defense for twelve years" ???? What draft selection was he eyeing all aLONG??
Things happen for a reason folks. Thigpen has 7 (+ hopefully) games to prove he deserves to be the named starting QB going into training camp next year. I like him and think he will seize the opportunity to at least show that Chad Henne is at least not ready now to be a starting QB. Defenses watch film of Henne and read him WAY TOO EASY on Sunday.
If Thigpen throws 8 or more picks the last 7 games of the season, then Michael Vick or Kevin Kolb will be targets for Jeff Ireland this offseason. We are not drafting a QB in the first round. Thigpen, a healthy Henne and maybe a third string veteran would be sufficient.
First round we are going after a 1,200 yeard rusher!!!!!

upside and young needs a shot....

Don't let Jamarcus anywhere near the Dolphins facility. We need a quarterback not a contestant in a hot dog eating contest.
Posted by: Rick | November 15, 2010 at 11:47 AM
JaMarcus Russell is a fat phony bum. Please make a more sensible choice that that.
Posted by: Sammy Cline | November 15, 2010 at 01:09 PM
BRING JEFF GARCIA.I BELIEVE HIS PLAYING FOE THE CFL.PLEASE DO NOT MENTION RUSSELL AGAIN!!!!

Posted by: el coach | November 15, 2010 at 04:16 PM
Patrick Ramsey
Colt Brennan
Graham Harrell
Jeff Garcia
Duante Culpepper
Most mentally handicapped second graders could come up with a list of a dozen QBs to try out ahead of the biggest bust in NFL history.
