Brandon Marshall apologizes to defenders blames everyone on offensive side of the ball, including coaches

Brandon Marshall just delivered a statement of mea culpa about the terrible offensive play the Dolphins offense -- ranked 31st in the NFL in scoring coming into today -- delivered in this 17-14 loss to the Bills and, indeed, has delivered all season.

The statement at his presser before he took questions:

"First before I take any questions, I want to apologize to the defensive guys, especially the players. All year they played their hearts out, they played together, they played like a unit is supposed to play. I'm not sure if we're out of the playoffs but we need a miracle to get in.

"I say that to say this: Offensively all year, we didn't get the job done. We didn't make enough plays. Today we didn't make enough plays. Today we didn't get the job done. It's embarrassing. It's just a shame. You have a defense like that, you don't have to be great as an offense. You just have to be OK. And we haven't been that all year. And it's embarrassing. So I apologize to each guy on the other side of the ball.

"And myself I'm held accountable, too. I'm not pointing fingers to anyone on offense, it's all of us as a group, coaches, too. We just didn't get the job done today and it's been that way all season."

Notice that Marshall does not exclude anyone. Seriously, it is the coaching, the play-calling, the execution, the running game, the passing game, the quarterback, the offensive line, and sometimes the receivers.

He got it all. The Dolphins need a total revamp on offense.

Period.

I agree. I didn't expect the playoffs but then again I didn't expect a top 5 defense and losing to garbage teams like CLE or BUF this late in the season.

I don't care what the prevailing winds are on the blogs -- I like me some Brandon Marshall.

Testify, Brandon!!

well at least the diva sends a message thats been clear and cut all season long about this inept offense, now if only henning would step out to everyone*including* fans, media alike and take free shots for not retiring a year earlier from this debacle!!!!

SANTA,

All I want for Christmas is a New Coach for my beloved Dolphins...Either Bill Cowher, my first choice, but IF you cant pull that off, then Jon Gruden, who didnt want the Canes, but I am sure would want the Dolphins, would be just fine too. And for my stocking stuffer, please have either one of them send our OC Henning to another team, say..the Patriots...
Thank you, Santa!!

Desperate Fin Fan in Seattle

Dolphins are 1-6 at home this year. Tony Sparano is now on the hot seat. Bill Cowher is on the clock. So is Jon Gruden, by the way. Oh my.

GOOOD, NO NOT GOOD BUT GREAT NEWS IN AN OVERALL PATHETIC PERFORMANCE TODAY!!!!

Very classy!

He is a keeper.

FIRE DAN HENNING NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so what do we....fire coaching staff? cut players....Henne looked good and then...garbage...ricky runs the crap out of the ball....i just dont get it....

if we bring in the chin, do we start all over again? or just on offense...does the chin and nolan get along?

gosh i hate it....

The Bills did not win.

We lost when someone decided to let Dan Henning stay.

Well.. AT LEAST a player is accountable. Now if DAN HENNING would show some self accountability for his crappy play calling.

FIRE DAN HENNING NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mtl, Just the offense my friend, they are in serious need of an overhual, I dont care what it takes, but this offseason, the OFFENSE MUST BE THE PRIORITY IN FREE AGENCY AND IN THE DRAFT!!!!

Bring on Brian Billick as the OC. Parcells, Henning- the game has passed by you. Please just disappear. Carpenter had a bad game but look at how many he has won for us. We'll prob be stuck aith Ireland and Sporano for another year but if we can get Cowher, cut bait.

Prediction market:

Chance to be gone this year:

Henning: 90%
Sparano: 65%
Henno: 40%
Ronnie: 50%
Ricky: 80%

i'll be back coaching for the fins as soon as i recover from my breast reduction surgery. thankful to you fans, cause thats how i afford it.

As mad and disgusted as I am . I want tony back next year finish his contract out we got Henning by default if you remember we wanted the guy from N O he's coaching Syracuse now .our running game hid just how bad of a play caller he is . We need to go after a qb with everything we got and a new young minded O C look what mike nolan has done with the D .another year saying next year yipeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ugh, Bill Cowher. Last thing the Dolphins need is another old re-tread. New blood, please, with ideas dreamed up in THIS century, not the 1990's. People remember him with rose-colored glasses but go back and check his history and you'll see a lot of "almosts" in there: we can already do "almost".

Note to Dolphins coaching staff...touchdowns are OK too, ya know.

@MTL--

I feel your pain, but I've been saying for weeks, we're at square one back to post-cam era. Rebuilding needed. alas & alack. Tuna effed us.

No O-line except for Jake after 3 yrs & $$$$$millions. Pizz-poor special teams. etc etc.

csonka67,

Bingo bro.
Henning was like choice number three or four.

the fins need a new play caller as desperately as i need my "bro" (as seen on seinfeld)

Henning=100% gone, no way in hell he stays
Strapono=70%(i think hes lost the motivation he had in 2008 honestly)
Ronnie=65% but if we fire strapono i'd say raise it to 75%
Ricky=80% hes just not the same as before and he is getting up there in age(50% he just retires)
Henne 60%(like ronnie) if we get a new coach i'd say his chances as a STARTER go down to 30%

I LIKE TO HAVE A CONTRACT FOR 50 MILLION AND EVERY GAME I COME OUT LIKE A GIRL AND SAY I AM SORRY .....MY AZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

TED GIN NEVER SAID SUCH THING AND HE WAS CHASED OUT OF TOWN BY THE DONKEYS .

this is what happens when your head coach aims for field goals. from 61 and 53 i believe you should try something else...like score a td....my nipples are hard

Fire Sparano and make Nolan head coach. I want somebody SMART at the helm!

I hope there's football next year because a new coach and offensive coordinator will make the world of difference to this team. They lost the locker room before the Jets game. I do believe the players love Sparano but I also believe that privately they know he's not fit to be a head coach. He's a great guy and stands up for his guys but he just doesn't have what it takes to be the leader. He would be better suited as an offensive line coach again. But I'll tell you this team has some real talent.

1.You get them a speedy wideout.
2. Sign a pro bowl left guard and move richie back to the right side. I don't care about the money do it. Draft a center top groom behind Berger.
3. You trade for, sign, or draft a qb high to compete with Henne.
4. You sign a veteran RB to replace whichever of the two leaves, probably Ricky, and draft a young FAST RB.
5. New coach, new offensive coordinator.

That's it!!! That's all they need and I swear they will pull right out of this mediocre offensive BS.

Can't argue with the guy. He's dead on.

you know how people are growing there hair and donating it to people as locks of love...thats what im doing with my boobs..soon i will donate them to some flat chested broad

NOLAN WAS A HC COACH FOR THE 49'S AND THEY GOT READY OF HIM I 2 YEARS ,HE'S NOT GOOD .

I THOUGHT B.MARSHALL PROMISED US THAT WE WILL BE IN THE PLAYOFFS .

cowher! make it so Ross!

ANY ONE KNOWS WHAT PLAY WE ALL SHOULD GO SEE ON BROADWAY ??????

i can sense an earthquake miles away because my knockers start bouncing around like those baywatch blonde tramps

Besides a blitzing ILB our defense is fine and can win championships. We have Odrick and Epps coming back next year and we're looking pretty stacked. Maybe a Pass rushing DE if you can but not a huge priority with the way MISI and WAKE have come along on the outside lb spot. They actually use it to their advantage. Two OLB who can set the edge. Let your two de's do the dirty work inside and let loose your olbs. It's working well. We also have Will Allen coming back. Defense is fine. ALL ABOUT THE OFFENSE THIS OFFSEASON!!!

i knew we wouldnt make the playoffs, thats why i booked my mammogram screening the same day as the super bowl

Two Words BILL COWHER

MARSHALL SHOULD GIVE BACK 8 MILLION TO ROSS.
FASANO SHOULD GIVE 1 MILLION BACK
BESS SHOULD GIVE 1 MILLION BACK
HENNE SHOULD GIVE BACK 8 DOLLARS

SUPERPHIN I say a new coach brings Hennes cahnces of starting to 50/50.

A new coach is going to give everyone a chance. Any QB on the team will have a clean slate to work with. This is the best thing that could happen for Henne at this point. I want to see what he can do behind a different offensive philosophy and more aggressive mentality.

Chris Mortenson reported this morning Bill Cowher said if Coaching changed were made there are three teams he'd prefer New York Giants, Houston Texans, and The Miami Dolphins.. just saying Mr Ross..

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
There will be no sellout the day after Christmas
Finished
We S U C K

I would love Cowher too but what do I know. I thought JJ was going to lead us to the promised land so wtf.

changes^

THE DOLPHINS SHOULD GIVE ME BaCK THE PAST FOUR MONTHS, THIS TIME w/o the BOREDOM & PAIN!!

ALoco, the play to see next 'Dead Man Walking'

Armando,
Your headline makes it sound like Marshall was pointing the fingers. You can make an excuse for your headline, but I think you could find a way to reword that.
Thanks.

I hope the Bills don't lay down against the Jets and let them in the playoffs like the Colts and Bengals did last year.

DEYTREDER, EVER ONE NOW CALLING FOR COWHER.I NEVER SEEN SUCK CREEPY FANS,THE PROBLEM IS THE PLAYERS NOT THE COACH .

DEAD MAN WALKING.............BAD MOVIE ...A BETTER MOVIE IS (( MYSTIC RIVER )) W/SEAN BENN AND TIM ROBBINS

Parcells, Ireland and Sparano are 2 time losers in Dallas and in Miami, Henning is the biggest failure with at least 3-5 strikeouts , they together are all PROVEN failures. It all starts at the top with philosophy i.e. Ireland and Sparano. Sparano is not head coach material yet and Henning is just too damn old and confused. Henne is mentally challenged and can't even understand the protection, still after all the sacks he has taken. He still doesn't understand what side to go to during a blitz. He also is very careless with the time clock and the use of timeouts. Clean house Mr. Ross!

MARSHALL SHOULD 8 MILLION BACK TO ROSS
CHAD.P SHOULD GOVE 4 MILLION BACK TO ROSS
R.BROWN SHOULD GOVE 1.8 MILLION BACK TO ROSS
HENNE SHOULD GIVE 8 SDOLLARS BACK TO ROSS

Brandon Marshall is correct... and honest

To come out this flat with this much at stake at home again is a crime. Its the head coaches responsiblity to have these players ready. Im tried of tony not admitting how bad the offense and the OC henning is, if you want to protect them then you pay the ultimate price your job. We want COWHER, We want COWHER, We want COWHER!

THIS SHOULD READ .....SHOULD GIVE BACK

As an English NFL and dedicated Dolphins fan I know how much you Yanks love your stats. No coach has ever won the SB with two different teams. Ergo, if the Dolphins get Cowher, statistically, we are virtually ensuring the Phins won't win a SB during his tenure.

Aloco, dead man walking won multiple awards while mystic river was laughed out of the theatre. Look up the word opinion.

WHEN KEVIN CURTIS A GUY WHO WAS OUT OF FOOTBALL AND JUST SIGN ALREADY BECOMES YOUR DEEP THREAT ..THATS A SIGN!

Can someone tell me why with 41 seconds left, the dolphins line up with 2 running backs, 2 WR, and a TE with Henne under center???!!! Henne was hot in the 4th, why run wildcat? AND henne is only doing what the coaches tell him... on the INT, the primary receiver was a fullback on 3rd and 16?

The Fins need to clean the coaching and front office houses , except for Mike Nolan! Maybe with a new GM, an offensive head coach or decent offensive coordinator while making Nolan head coach

MARSHALL IS A CON ARTIST LIKE CHAD.P...WHAT HONEST..TO GET 10 MILLION A YEAR AND COME OUT EVERY GAME TO SAY SORRY ........I THOUGHT HE SAID WE WILL BE IN THE PLAYOFFS .

Ok, so new DC, and defense gets fixed. Hopefully a new OC will fix the offense. But Henne needs competition. He just can't be "anointed" to the starter position.

THE FACT THAT DAN HENNING HASN'T LASTED MORE THAN 3 YEARS ON A TEAM ..LETS YOU KNOW HE STINKS..

Brandon Marshall said what the coaches should and haven't all year.

I'AM SICK OF WATCHING RONNIE KEEP THE BALL ON THE WILDCAT..HE'S NO REGGIE BUSH...GET RID OF THIS GUY!
