Brandon Marshall apologizes to defenders blames everyone on offensive side of the ball, including coaches

Brandon Marshall just delivered a statement of mea culpa about the terrible offensive play the Dolphins offense -- ranked 31st in the NFL in scoring coming into today -- delivered in this 17-14 loss to the Bills and, indeed, has delivered all season.

The statement at his presser before he took questions:

"First before I take any questions, I want to apologize to the defensive guys, especially the players. All year they played their hearts out, they played together, they played like a unit is supposed to play. I'm not sure if we're out of the playoffs but we need a miracle to get in.

"I say that to say this: Offensively all year, we didn't get the job done. We didn't make enough plays. Today we didn't make enough plays. Today we didn't get the job done. It's embarrassing. It's just a shame. You have a defense like that, you don't have to be great as an offense. You just have to be OK. And we haven't been that all year. And it's embarrassing. So I apologize to each guy on the other side of the ball.

"And myself I'm held accountable, too. I'm not pointing fingers to anyone on offense, it's all of us as a group, coaches, too. We just didn't get the job done today and it's been that way all season."

Notice that Marshall does not exclude anyone. Seriously, it is the coaching, the play-calling, the execution, the running game, the passing game, the quarterback, the offensive line, and sometimes the receivers.

He got it all. The Dolphins need a total revamp on offense.

Period.

Drew rosenhaus ..Southbeach resident..;Drayton Florence . Said after the game that you know what they are gonna run before the play happens ..That he never seen a QB do playaction with 1 wr getting open..As soon as henne didn't connect with curtis on that deep ball ..ala hartline vs. the browns that was the last shot at a td they had..The formations are a joke..if you study vs. there offense you can beat them easy..the same ol same ol!Another let down after a win falls on the headcoach..what does he do during the week?how about d.epps former average hurricane undrafted tightend....playing wr on some formations.?WTF?

A "total revamp" on Offense? Not quite, but close to it.

A new OC

A new QB

A new RB

A new Center and new RG.

Ireland - go and trade for Kevin Kolb!

Its ok Brando .. You can say it. WE FREAKEN S U C K ...

LOL Deytreder, he was 2 knuckles deep after that TD!
I'd say Kubiak should be on our radar as the next OC after he is fired in Houston.

NO MORE RICKY AND RONNIE PLEASE GREAT GUYS BUT NO SPARK!TRADE FOR JERRIOUS NORWOOD ..OR ANYBODY!

THE LIONS NO 3 QB DREW STANTON WON THE GAME FOR THEM TODAY VS TAMPA 23-20 AND WE CAN'T EVEN WIN IN OUR HOME W/HENNE THE NO 1 QB

Yees

TONY SPORANO'S PROBLEM IS HE WANTS DAN CARPENTER IN THE HALL OF FAme!MEANING NEXT YEAR WITH A NEW OC ...HE'S STILL GONNA GO FOR FIELDGOALS!

SOMETHING TELLS ME STEVEN ROSS HAS MADE UP HIS MIND!HE'S NOT THE ONE THAT HIRED TONY SPORANO AND IRELAND..HE'S GONNA GO FOR A BIG NAME..WHO WANTS TO GO TO HOME GAMES NEXT YEAR AND WATCH FIELDGOALS..RONNIE BROWN 2 YARD GAINS AND D.BESS CATCH 3 YARD PASSES?

F@## THE WOLF!TONY

Aloco still talking about the patriots after we loose to Buffalo w/Fitz at QB, so sad-LOL!

Murtha ain't Vernon Carey, that's for sure. Fact is, Carey ain't much to begin with.

Some believe he can be moved to guard. I don't really know. All I DO know is he needs to MOVE.

If he'll take a gigantic paycut, give him a shot at guard next year. If not, cut your losses. EITHWER WAY, we need to draft a right tackle and/or a center. Look for a solid free agent or two as well.

If we draft a guard I'd be looking at a left guard and move Cognito back to his natural position on the right side.

We can't just sit back and hope Carey is suddenly awesome on the inside or that Jerry will pick it up.

As it stands right now, there's only two offensive lineman on our roster that I'd count on for next year. Cognito and Long. That is seriously sad considering our Head Coach is a former offensive line coach.

Hey MJ

Before calling Buffalo a garbage team, you should check the score. The stats may say you have a top 5 defense, but I didn't see it today. Face the fact, Miami isn't any closer to the playoffs then Buffalo or Cleveland. Deal with it.

odin, flynn looks real good and cool .

Let's rewind for a sec...

A few years ago there was nothing but hoopla Parcels was coming to straighten things out. Back then, how many of us thought that after 3 years of the P regime, we'd be 8-8 and going backwards fast? Landing Nolan was pure luck. Their previous hand picked DC was terrible.

It was nothing more than a failed experiment, and now he is gone and we are left with Tony Sparano. Do you think Ross is going to stick with him? I say no way.

JUST KEEP SPORANO NEXT YEAR SO HE CAN GIVE HIS NEWYORK BUDDIES COACHING JOBS AND NFL PAYCHECKS!

flynn is the real thing,

How come no one has mentioned that Vince Young will probably be available in the off season? I think he'd be a Vick-like savior to our sub par offense.

Henne needs to get career advice from Jamarcus Russle and Ryan Leaf.

No more old guys like Cowhere and Gruden. Has e veryone forgotten how lame their offences were? We need new innovative coachs

I HOPE THEY DON'T GET A JOSH MCDANIELS TYPE COACH!

No one really knows what Ross is going to do. I would much rather see a younger proven coach that can develop QB's (and was one at the nfl level)hence Jim Harbaugh as the new HC if a change were to be made. I am sure he could talk Nolan into staying. I'm not so sure they fire Ireland. Let's be realistic he has had hits and misses, but theres no denying he has brought some exciting pieces to the fins (Dansby, Marshall, Davis, Smith,Clemons,Bess, Hartline, Wake, Misi, etc). To those of you that want to get rid of him ponder this he picks the players its up to the coaches to put together a plan and have the players perform. The coaches have failed here not him. I say give him another year to prove himself (realistically who else is there to replace him). The OL can be somewhat fixed during FA. I know there is alot of people pissed at Henne right now. Believe me I throw things at the TV with the way he plays to but this coaching staff has basically nutered him. He has no confidence in his own abilities. He needs to finds his swagger. I wouldnt be surprised to start seeing more younger players the next two weeks so the FO can evaluate. The 1st rd trade down too many holes to fill with a missing 2nd

First order of business, sign New England Patriot's Guard Dan Conolly. He will upgrade our O Line and Punt returns. LOL.

Can we get Matt Flynn to play for the fins next season? He's looking incredible against the pats tonight

Anybody think the team will come to play next week or will they lay down and die? This is where TS loses the team.

I'm laughing at all the Henne bashers tonight.

You guys have been reduced to old stale one liners-ROTFLMAO.

Henne bounced back with a solid outing, the rest of the offense, not so much.

PS: I timed the pass plays today and averaged it out. With a whopping 1.7 seconds to throw the ball, he went 33 of 44.

Flynn has that pocket presence, and he is quick to read D's and check all WR's...he looks good

He looks better than henne

Yeah Odin...but Henne missed many wide open WR's...watch the tape again bro...Henne just doesn't haven't my friend

td , THIS IS FOOTBALL NOT THAT CRAP WE SAW TODAY W/FASANO

Marshall was spot on with his comment our defense played great this year and the offense straight up let the down!!!

YOU NEED EVERY PLAYER TO DO SOME THING SPECIAL NOT JUST THE QB ,THE PATS REWRITES THE BOOK HOW TO PLAY THE GAME NOT THAT CRAP OF THE WILDCAT .

*them*

Odin, your last post was dead on, specially about moving Incognito back to his natural position! Thanks, you saved me a lot of typing on my iPhone.

DOLPHIN, WE PAY MARSHALL TO CATCH THE BALL NOT TO TALK AFTER THE GAME SAYING DUMB WORD TO DUMB FANS .

"Henne bounced back with a solid outing"

Now that's funny! Even the most ardent Henne Lovers, like Jim Mandich, have seen his regression & weakass play.

Doody is "solid" too, ain't it?

Aloco, I don't have a problem with what Marshall said, it's true, every bit of it.....I respect him for having the NADS to say it. It HAS been a systemic failure on offense! I took it as a profound compliment to our defense. It is unusual for an offensive player to compliment the D. I'm glad he did, I'm sure the public recognition means a lot to them. Was it politically correct? Probably not....but I'm tired of political correctness. I think Marshall is a bit of a primadonna, but I back him on this one.

Matt Flynn that's who we target in FA

mondo we started out with henning as the cancer its now spread to sporano .....i like the guy but he is in WAY over his head. he is an offensive line coach not an nfl head coach, the guy has got ot go bro

IN EVERY TEAM DET OR GB I SEE A STAR BORN IN FLYNN AND THE DOLPHINS HAD THE GOD FATHER SIGNS CHAD.P AND THIGGY W/HIS HAPPY FEET ,THE DOLPHINS ARE SHAMLESS

Gee, was that Henne?

I saw Manning miss some wide open receievers today. Oh and his ball placement is just garbage. He almost got one of his poor receivers decapitated.

Oh and Bree's too, missed lots of them and did you see Rapeleisbeger? He missed quite a few today.

I could see scrubs like Henne and drew Stanton missing throws but not them great QB's.

Everybody misses receivers now and then. The throw Henne missed on was to Kevin Curtis. You know, that guy that he's practiced with all of three times. I know, I know, with just under a weeks worth of practise together they should be looking like Montana to Rice by now!

Sniff sniff, whimper.....................

Well, ok...Odin has his fair right to his opinion. Perusing the blog and local writers, I'd say its now 43,987,182 against Henne, and 1 (odin) for Henne. Plain stats don't always tell the story, Belichek will tell you that. The team does not score points with Henne, that is the only stat I care about.

REDSKY, WHAT HE SAID IS NO THING SPECIAL ,WE NEED HIM TO CATCH THE BALL NOT GRACE US W/HIS TALK EVERY WEEK ,HE'S TRYING TO REFLECT FROM THE FACT HE'S GETTING PAID 10 MILLION A YEAR ..BTW,WHERE IS FASANO,BESS AND R.BROWN.THEY ALL SHOULD MAKE LESS MONEY THAN WOODHEAD IN NEW ENGLAND .

ARRON ROGERS WILL RETIRE

The first thing that Mr. Ross needs to come to grips with, is that firing those responsible for this monumental underachievement, mediocrity and disenfranchisement of fans in favor of hiring a head coach who actually has won a Super Bowl or at least taken a team to the SB, will be very well received by the fan base.

Conversely, not doing anything (giving these scrubs in charge another year) will not be. Once he realizes that, the decision becomes much easier.

ALoco have to agree with you here.. Marshall comes out and speaks like he is some ambassador or something. Who is he to speak for the rest of the team and players that have been here for years. He needs to fill his mouth with humble pie until he contributes to a SB ring. He is already acting above everybody else. Early cancer warnings....

What an embarrasing team. Period. Does someone in this organization have enough "BIG BALLS" or the "BRAINS" to make the appropiate changes in coaching and get the right players to make a decent Football team. ummh.?? Appareantly not.

WELKER

Redsky,

Your last post on Marshall was dead on!

You in turn saved me a lot of typing-LOL.

WHAT MARSHALL SAID!!!!

mini Doug Flutie had less passes deflected at the line then Hennepecker.

DEYTREDER..... ONLY IN FL I SEE THINGS I DON'T ANY WHERE IN THE COUNTRY LIKE MARSHALL TALKING LIKE HE'S KIND OF ABOVE IT ALL AS YOU SAY .YOU THINK IT HAS TO DO W/FL BEING THE 48 STATE IN EDUCATION .

Come on guys.Dont you listen to Sparanos Press videos everyday. This guy has passion for this team. Marshalls comments were directed to Henning.Sparanos group landed Marshall as well as guys like Wake,Carroll Misi and not to mention Bess and Long.Give the guy a break.
Henne looked good in college and its a crap shoot when you draft a QB. I do believe a change at the quarterback and OC must be done but the talk of cowher or Gruden. Come on. Sparano is just as good of head coach.

Aloco, if that's the case, then no player should be allowed to talk, period. No press conference after the game. As far as Woodhead is concerned, the kid is tremendous for his size....5'5' and under 200 pounds, amazing. It's incredible how the Pats can pick talent and design plays to use those players to the best of their abilities.

Doody is "solid" too, ain't it?

Moe, you might want to try a stool softener. Oh yeah, and quit letting Larry and Curly pack it in there so often.

Henne has regressed. What QB hasn't at times. The fact is, much as he has done last year and this year, Henne played well enough for us to win. He put us in position to win the game. Despite the playcalls, the O-line, etc, etc.

He played exactly how they coached him to play today. He managed the game and looked like a little Pennington clone doing it.

Odin, thanks, one hand washes the other my friend!

I don't think Welker would have ever become a star in our offense. Players get, or seem better when they go to teams with elite coaching staffs and QBs. They get or seem worse when they move from elite teams to teams with inferior staffs. Randy Moss realized this too late. He would have been a disaster in Miami. Name the last player traded from NE who got better on the new team. I think Belichek and Brady could make Davon Bess a star.

On offense you keep The Beast and Bess. Get all new players for every other position. On Defense keep the front line linebackers and Davis add a free agent someone who is much needed. We knew we needed this going into the last offseason but lost Rolle to the giants. I would keep Nolan and get rid of the rest of the coaches. Tony is a line coach and Henning is the worst offensive coord in football. Hire a guy like Whipple from the Canes who has NFL play calling under his belt. Chad Henne is just plain horrible looks like he is clueless and can't run for anything. A starting QB is needed. Not too many in free agency so will have to look to the draft. Coaching wise hire Bill Cowher or John Gruden. This team is a laughing stock. You watch this team year after year week after week and they just get you mad. The phins have missed on so many great players in the draft and end up drafting guys who get hurt or are just horrible. The front office has to be cleaned out.

Miami WILL loose the next two games. Playing for "pride" my a#@$. No one should go to the Stadium and support this team when they face the Lions. They will get blown away in NE. It is embarrasing indeed.!!

HERNANDEZ ...........TD

BESS MAY AZZZZZZZZZZZZ.THE FIN PLAYERS ARE ONLY GOOD FOR TALKING AND CASHING THE CHECK.

Chris...Welker was great on our offense. It was pure stupidity letting him go. Belichek raved at how he tore them up every time. When the owner of the team is so far removed as Wayne H was, you suffer the consequences of the whims of silly coaches.

I'd rather loose the final two now and get a notch or two higher in the draft..we are gonna need every spot we can muster at this point..start thinking whom we can trade even if it's a few players so we can nab a second round pick..we are behind the ball already just look at the Patty's and their 900 draft picks...their FO knows how to work the system...we need some major SACK in this upcoming draft folks
