Brandon Marshall apologizes to defenders blames everyone on offensive side of the ball, including coaches

Brandon Marshall just delivered a statement of mea culpa about the terrible offensive play the Dolphins offense -- ranked 31st in the NFL in scoring coming into today -- delivered in this 17-14 loss to the Bills and, indeed, has delivered all season.

The statement at his presser before he took questions:

"First before I take any questions, I want to apologize to the defensive guys, especially the players. All year they played their hearts out, they played together, they played like a unit is supposed to play. I'm not sure if we're out of the playoffs but we need a miracle to get in.

"I say that to say this: Offensively all year, we didn't get the job done. We didn't make enough plays. Today we didn't make enough plays. Today we didn't get the job done. It's embarrassing. It's just a shame. You have a defense like that, you don't have to be great as an offense. You just have to be OK. And we haven't been that all year. And it's embarrassing. So I apologize to each guy on the other side of the ball.

"And myself I'm held accountable, too. I'm not pointing fingers to anyone on offense, it's all of us as a group, coaches, too. We just didn't get the job done today and it's been that way all season."

Notice that Marshall does not exclude anyone. Seriously, it is the coaching, the play-calling, the execution, the running game, the passing game, the quarterback, the offensive line, and sometimes the receivers.

He got it all. The Dolphins need a total revamp on offense.

Period.

2008's 11-5 finish seems like a distant memory.

Can a football team be euthanized?

If I were Mr. Ross I wouldnt even give Henning the honor of retiring. He hasnt deserved it. Fire his ass! LOL.................

The warlock's name is Little Larry Sellers...he stole a bag of money instead of the "ringer" messenger bag and bought himself a corvette...which was smashed by a crazy war vet...go kill Larry Sellers!

DB, my thoughts exactly..fire him now and stomp his crazy ego

Burn your tickets!

Fire everybody!

Cut the entire offense.

Their fates are sealed!

Carpenter makes 3 of the 4, Tony dislocates his shoulder and we we win 24-17-Doh!

I love the sky is falling routines, but what I really want to know is WTF was Benny Sapp thinking. He had Vontae right beside him and had to get by ONE FREAKING GUY!

Sapp scores on that one and it's 31-17-Double Doh!

But yeah, lets completely dismantle this team, defense and all. Rename it "The Cursed" and send them to Oakland!

Well lets think about how the community can profit off this, why not sell tickets to the home games part of a Disney spectacle and give the proceeds to charity?

Here's my two cents.

I don't really need to go into Henning, he along with several position coaches must be replaced. My main point is if Sparano is in fact fired, the one coach who should be considered is Jon Gruden, not Bill Cowher. And here is why, Jon Gruden is an offensive minded coach and has stated several times that he likes Chad Henne, and if there is one coach that can save Henne's career and coach him correctly to be a franchise QB it would be Gruden.

Gruden has built good teams with the Raiders and took a talented Tony Dungy built Bucs team and won a Superbowl. He would make sure the offense would open up, team him with Mike Nolan's continually progressing and surprising Defense and Miami could actually for once in a very long ass time possess a complete team. Henne really is the key to this team, if his play this year is a true indication of his abilities and not the result of poor coaching then Miami is in even worse shape, as they will have to spend even more time searching for that franchise QB.

Team Needs:
MLB-Need to replace Crowder
RB- Need speed
WR- Need speed
QB- Someone to develop in case Henne is in fact a lost cause
Offensive and Defensive depth

Tony said Henne did some real good things out there today. GOOD GOD Please fire henne and henning TODAY. Play all the back up players to see who is a keeper. Even the back ups could out perform the offense we saw today.Pat white now Henne they really know how to pick'em.

I have been a dolphin's fan for 30 years. I am not so much dissapointed in the lack of championships as I am the years and years of humiliation. I watch the bad teams (even the terrible teams) win an occasional blowout game. We may win by 10 points once or twice in a season...or two. When Marino was there, we lost 42 to 39. Now we lose 17 to 9. Either way it is obvious that Miami is no longer a football city. They put on a great show (not the football team, the celebrities) and the weather is great. Listen to us. "All we need is a quarterback, 2 recievers, a tight end, an entire O-line (minus 1 for Jake long) 2 running backs, a head coach, an OC, a special teams coach"....how about a stage coach. Out of town. For good. I quit this team tonight after 30 years, they quit me 10 years ago. Patriots? Steelers? Falcons? I feel like I just broke up with a *ithc and can date whom ever I like. It is liberating. This team will never win for you. YOU know it. You KNOW it! Youngsters, stick with your team through thick and thin, but realize when they are no longer a team. They are the laughing stock of the NFL. The Browns are now better. My God! The Browns are actually MUCH better! Bye Bye men of teal.

sorry for the poor typing, learning guitar and can't feel my fingertips!

Odin, a lot of the guys on the blog are clearly frustrated and overreacting, understandably so. I for one think the team is missing a few pieces on offense.....I don't think we need to dump everyone....I do think Henne needs a lot more work, keep him as second or 3rd QB. That Oline with Carey, could have been better, but now it's leaking like a sieve and Long is playing hurt. Henne was getting his throws off more quickly because of it but accuracy suffered. He still completed 33 of 45 for 270 plus yards. The Buffalo players were overheard by Miami sport reporters on the field that all the Dolphins do is dink and dunk plays, so we're easy to defend against. We couldn't run the ball against the worst run defense in the NFL. Our longest play was to Ricky Williams for 23 yds. Not good enough. Sean Smith, who was a WR in college, dropped his 6th INT. Fans at the stadium started chanting 'Lets go HEAT!', and booing the Dolphins as they left the field at the end of the game. Former Dolphin and South Florida sportscaster Joe Rose said he was embarrassed for the team, the individual players and coaches. He is an insider and is predicting major changes. He also mentioned that Cowher should be considered by the Dolphins, that the organization would be foolish not to talk to him. He and the other local sportscasters are backing Marshall in his comments and said Marshall was dead on. That's it from SoFlorida!!!!!

Too late Henne is a lost cause!

At least Brandon is showing some EMOTION! After watching the robotic and lifeless Chad Henne play like a zombie out there all season it's nice to know someone on offense has a pulse!

What a load of Rubbish Dolphins, you should now all go and hibernate in the off-season. Think hard and come back to play proper football. Otherwise fold.

Another poor season, utter garbage.

An outraged Phin fan.

I appreciate Brandon's candor. I disagree on the last statement. It is not a total revamp. There are a few key offensive pieces that need washing. Do it fast before we lose key defensive players/coaches

To the guy that says he wants Sparano back, really? You like lining up for 60 yrd fgs into the wind on fourth and 1 when we have a FB that is automatic in that situation? You like watching us use timeouts in the absolute most crucial points of every game for no damn reason? The man is absolutely clueless to be a head coach. No doubt I think he is a passionate guy and would make a great line coach. He just doesn't have the football knowledge to be a head coach. I can't even put into words how horrible this season has been. Sparanos ignorant game management has prob cost us three games. Yesterday had he not wasted the timeout (which gave buffalo a chance to review a close play btw) we would've had over 2 min left instead of 40 sec. Of course Henne needs 10 min to go 40 yards, but that besides the point.

FIRE SPARANO & FIRE HENNING PERIOD! THEN, BRING IN A RICH GANNON AND/OR ESPECIALLY A BILL COWHER TO EVALUATE IF HENNE IS WORTH KEEPING, WHICH I DOUBT, AND GO FROM THERE! OTHERWISE, MIAMI FANS FORGET ABOUT IT! THREE(3) YEARS IS ENOUGH! ONLY "LOSERS" WOULD BLAME BRADY FROM NEW ENGLAND FOR MIAMI CONTINUING TO LOSE! THIS IS A "DISGRACE" TO SHULA'S PERFECT SEASON!

Brandon Marshall should NOT APOLIZE! HENNING AND SPARANO SHOULD APOLIZE TO MIAMI FIRST, THEN TO DON SHULA, AND THEN HENNING & SPARANO SHOULD BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY!

Gruden........... he won a super bowl with Dungy's team. I don't think he even won another playoff game after that super bowl.
Good offenses start with good qb's. We don't have one.

Fire Henning! That would solve a whole lot of problems. his play calling is horrible.

Don't bash Ronnie for the Wildcat he is only doing what is called, which never should have been called.

At the very LEAST the O-coordinator must go. There is no doubt Sparano gets the players to play their buts off, but the offense is just all together terrible. Henning must be held accountable, as was their special teams coach earlier.

Regardless of what happens, something needs to happen today to show a sign from that damn front office that they give a damn about football and the Fin Fans. I don't care if they fire Henning , Sparano , bench Henne, trade Ricky and Ronnie , start the practice squad - something to show they realize the direction of this offense needs to change.

Since Shula left this is what the owners have given the Dolphin fans for their undying support and hard earned money:

Jimmy Johnson
Karim Abdul Jabbar
forcing Marino out because J.J. wants a running game
Nick Saban
Tedd Ginn
release Taylor twice
release Zach Thomas
Sparano ( only a position coach with a field goal fetish )
pass up Drew Brees for Dante Culpper
Chambers to San Diego
Welker to New England WTF!!!
Pat White
Chad Henne
orange carpet
has been celebs
and of course a new fight song by Jimmy Buffet

bet you guys can't count all the Lombardi trophies!!!

same old shite...

How about Jeff Fisher if he is out of Tennesse?

Well, at least we'll have something to read about during the off season and free agency, providing the owners dont have a lock out.

When your starting QB struggles - put the back up in - especially when you are in the situation the Fins find themselves in on Sunday. Thigpen is a very good back up and can do things Henne can not do so I think Henne should have been replaced in the last two games. As for a new coach - please Gruden is not a great football mind. Cower would be a great up grade. As for the w/c STOP IT. The play is old and stale - it's a drive stopper - sure it worked once for a TD Sunday but they lose more yards than they gain during the year with this formation. And stop doing plays with no back in - it's an obvious pass play. Geez, what is Henning thinking? Teams can read the offense like an open book.

Dolphins need to bring Marty Shottenheimer as their HC, he will bring his son as the OC, keep nolan as the DC.

3M TA3

I've said it all year long. All the coaches, especially Sporano(as he calls the shots), except 4 Nolan are CRAP! Henne is CRAP! CLEAN HOUSE! To watch MY TEAM wither away and play like children makes me vomit! Romper has spoken!

I appreciate Brandon's candor, reminds me of reality checks spoken by Zach Thomas.

Surprizingly good defense and surprizingly bad offense ='s our season.

After so many years I am really ready for the Dolphins to get it together on both sides of the ball; regardless, will always support the fins, used to see them play in the Orange Bowl, loyalty is deep seated.

Just heard the News here in PA this morning. Bill Cowher has said he would only be interested in coming back to coach next year for 1 of 3 teams. Guess who is first...That's right Miami!!!! Advice to you Ross if ya wanna win do what it takes to get him and let him do his thing. Stay outta the way and let him coach and bring this team back to an elite franchise. Right now we are a disgrace!!!

My God! She is incredibly glamorous! Thanks for the post, dear. Your blog is really very nice and amazing. Keep posting.

Brandon Marshall shouldn't be appollagizing for anything on his part- he's about the only player on offense that hasn't stunk it up this year. Coaching staff, i.e., Spurano and Henning, is HORRENDOUS!!!!! They could be put in charge of an offense with Tom Brady as Qb, Brandon Marshall, Jerry Rice, and Randy Moss all in their prime as wide recievers, Terrell Davis in his prime as Running back, a pro-bowl offensive line, Tony Gonzalez in his prime at Tight end, and these two coaches would figure out a strategy of how to miss the playoffs every year! You know good and well I am right! Incompetence! Enough! Enough! Enough! Out the door already with these two!
