The Dolphins have beaten the New York Jets, 10-6 and so their slim playoff hopes continue to be, well, slim.
But one must admit slim is better than none.
The defense obviously kept the Jets out of the end zone and limited them to 286 total yards.
The offense?
Well, the defense played great. Mike Nolan's crew played hard and well. Yes, they dropped a couple of interceptions but those are excused when you don't give up a TD.
Discuss ...

Well said Odin, Henne is slug slow, but when he is given even a little time he does pretty well. Not to mention that idiotic flow breaking wildcat. Oh, marshall looks like he is dogging it to me.

GUYS ALL IM SAYING IS THAT OUR OFFENSIVE SYSTEM TOTALLY SUCKS AND IT IS FAR FROM BEING QB FRIENDLY.
MARINO MAY HAVE LOOKED JUST AVERAGE AS A YOUNG QB IN THIS EXACT SAME INEPT HENNING SYSTEM.

I have been a Dolphan since 71 and have hated the Jets more with each passing season. So, a win against the Jets is always a good thing. However, the game once again clearly showed why we need QB from the draft. Given the choices and likely possibility of Luk beinf the 1st overall pick. The logical choice for us is Cam Newton. Simply put he is a better passer than he is given credited for and he is mobile. The main thing that sticke out about this guy is "Leadership" This guy inspires people to perform at a higher level in critical situations. Clearly a major need for us. The defense will be a top 5 unit next season as we get some injured guys back as well. However, we need a playmaker at tailback for sure. We need a deep threat like Holmes is for the Jets. We also need a faster TE to compliment Fasano. See the success the Pats are having. With all these critical needs, every winn this season comes at a huge price in terms of draft order. It is obvious that we are not going to win every game form here on out with Henne at the controls. Therefore there is no chance for a Lombardi trophy. I hate to advocate losing at anytime, but we do a great disservice fo our future, espcecially since we have no 2nd rd pick and few picks in total next year. Hope we land Cam in April. We need a playmaker at the controls. The other QBs are a joke with the exception of Luk.

The Miami Dolphins are a force in the AFC. Our defense is blood curdling scary. All you guys are idiots, Henne did enough to WIN you dingleberries.
Ok, I can't really say that with a straight face. Henne is a work in disprogress. But, to his favor, the play calling is atrocious and the field conditions were impossible. But anyone can see the offense is not in sink and the QB plays the largest role in that. I'm not sure what they can do, other than throw out the playbook and let Henne play (not the dink and dunks but some of the stuff they were doing at the beginning of the season with Pittsburgh and then against Oakland.

I just blame the offense PERIOD, from top to bottom, week to week, year to year, coach to coach........Henning,Oline,Henne, ect....when will the ineptitude stop and consistancy reign for this offense to be PRODUCTIVE, not good, but Productive!!!!
Posted by: superPHIN | December 12, 2010 at 08:04 PM
They better send that trip thing to the league that was so smooth it was obvious he has done it before.
Posted by: shaggy | December 12, 2010 at 08:04 PM
ITS NOT ONLY HENNING'S PLAY CALLS. NEARLY THE ENTIRE NETWORK OF HENNING'S PLAY DESIGNS IT SELF LOOK LIKE THEY WERE DRAWN UP BY "ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER."
DEFENSES SEE WHAT'S COMING A MILE AWAY! THIS CANT BE DENIED. LOL..........

What a wonderful game. An absolute clinic on the fundamentals of the most important part of any team. The Punting! I have never been more enthralled with any game that I have ever watched!
Now maybe people will see just how important what I have been stressing all these years is all about.
Hey, I am available for any team who wants to play winning football like this as I have recently been let go by other another short sighted football institution.

odiseye,
You are way off base dude. Henne was HORRIBLE today. There is no excuse for going 5-18 for 55 yards. Saying we are all clueless idiots dude, you might want to revaluate your football knowledge and watch the games instead of being a HOMER and acting like Henne is a young improving QB. He sucks and is a REGRESSING statue.
Posted by: Andy NJ | December 12, 2010 at 08:05 PM
BUT ALOCO IF HENNE DIDNT SUCK AT HIS JOB OUR DB'S WOULD CATCH MORE INTERCEPTIONS AND OUR RECEIVERS WOULD CATCH MORE PASSES AND OUR OFFENSIVE LINE WOULD BLOCK ON OCCASION AND OUR RB'S WOULD STOP DANCING AROUND IN THE BACK FIELD EVERY OTHER PLAY
OH AND GET OFF HENNINGS BACK HE CALLED LOTS OF DRAW PLAYS ON 2ND/3RD AND LONG SO WHEN PLAY ACTION SHOULD'VE WORKED ON 3RD AND LONG L8R IN THE GAME...
ONLY IF HENNE WAS BETTER...
Posted by: fan | December 12, 2010 at 08:05 PM
I love how Henne keeps saying that 'he is an NFL starting QB', yet his play says otherwise. Shannon Sharpe said it on the pregame show this morning...his play needs to back up those words. He's barely a backup QB. For an individual to be paid what he does and to consistently perform at the level he does is borderline criminal. This QB charade is never going to go away. Draft position isn't high enough, established players aren't available. The mediocrity will continue at this position for years and years to come.
Posted by: Mac | December 12, 2010 at 08:05 PM
its not all on henne....the O leaves a lot to be desired....apparently ryan was going to bench sanchez in the 3rd.
Posted by: redsky | December 12, 2010 at 08:06 PM
i agree the entire offense was awful. also sad to watch marshall play, he just doesnt go hard very much
Posted by: bill_cnnrs@yahoo.com | December 12, 2010 at 08:07 PM
was there one throw Henne made today that hit his receivers in stride besides those 5 yders to Marshall? I guess that's Hennings fault too. Oh wait i forgot Henne plays with Hennings hands so those fumbles are on henning too... Odin are you watching the same game we all are cuz that was one of the worst offensive games i've seen besides the Chicago game which is on Thigpen or would you say that was Henning too? Sanchez had a better game than Henne did and he almost threw 6 ints.
Posted by: beerphin | December 12, 2010 at 08:07 PM
Sean Smith was the man today. He broke up a lot of plays. Never mind the Ints, he played great.
The d line was also great. No big runs.
Henne looked bad, not all his fault. Dropped passes, rain and cold weather. From the look of things he isn't going to be the qb of the future unless something happens.
One bad call and one Int dropped last week and we are 9-4.

Cut Henne after the season. Go after Michael Vick and he'll make better use with the same jersey number.Imagine how many more games the Dolphins coulda won if Henne play like a real QB.
Posted by: Wang Chung | December 12, 2010 at 08:09 PM
Henne did enough to win? Please what game do you guys watch? Miami won in spite of Henne. Henne has a turnover in 11 STRAIGHT GAMES!
You guys are a bunch of HOMERS. Stop drinking the Kool Aid. Henne is the worst QB in the AFC East!

SUPERPHIN,
AT LEAST YOU'RE BRIGHT ENOUGH TO SEE THE OFFENSIVE WOES ARE A FULL GAMUT AND NOT PRIMARILY HENNE ALONE. WE HAVE THE POSSIBLY POOREST DESIGNED PLAYS IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE.
MANY DEFENDERS HAVE ADMITED KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT'S COMING WHEN WE LINE UP AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. THE SAME CANT BE SAID FOR OFFENSES LIKE THE PATS AND OTHER UPPER ECHELON DEFENSES.
A VET QB IS IN SERIOUS TROUBLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS SO WHAT'S A YOUNG QB TO DO.
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 12, 2010 at 08:10 PM
I know, I know, "How can you complain about a win?" In a story of two bad qb performances ours was the worst. Hats off to Mike Nolan and the D, and thanks to the Jets for dropping enough balls to lose the game. Against an average defense last week Henne was a bad NFL qb. Bad. Against a good defense this week, he was not an NFL qb. Blame Henning if you want - I usually do, but this was a clear and concise statement that Chad Henne is not a starting qb in the NFL, 3 years into the experiment. Henne's decision making and execution were simply awful. You can get a good idea of what is going through a qb's head, when he starts to run with the ball. When he starts to run with his head up, he forces the defensive players in front of him to make a decision, even if it is bluffing a throw. Henne put his head down on several plays and went into a shell. The guy makes enough mental mistakes to kill you: the would be grounding play, delay of game, no clock in his head. Throw in inaccuracy and you have a a bad, inconsistent qb. No excuse-sorry Henning haters, this was a game where they tried to max protect Henne, and called a game plan out of want for something /anything of the qb position, and he could not deliver. I've seen alot of NFL football, and Chad Henne ain't it.

A win is a win whether it's beautifully done by the Patriots or ugly as this last game we won against the Jets. Last week we had the ugliest of ugly losses against the Browns. In both games, the defense played well despite unofficially leading the league in almost interceptions. The offense in this case capitalized just enough on turnover the Jets gave them. Otherwise our offense must enjoy turning the ball over to the other guys. Game balls today go to Brandon Fields for giving the Jets bad field position with clutch punting and Cameron Wake for his relentless play.

Posted by: bill_cnnrs@yahoo.com | December 12, 2010 at 08:16 PM
Hey Venom, you keep those blinders on pal. The future of this franchise at the most important position on the field is in the hands of one of the worst players in the AFC. As was said previously, the fins won despite Henne. How can one totally ignore the inept play when this guy is apparently the future? This team isn't making the playoffs so discussing Henne, in a negative light, is relevant after a win.
Posted by: Mac | December 12, 2010 at 08:16 PM
That Guy,
You are right on across the board with all your statements. Way to point out that the jets WRs dropped enough passes for Miami to win.
Much props Mike Nolan and the D.
Sean Smith you will get credited for pass break ups but dude intercept a pass. Stil was one of your better games.
Cam Wake, awesome!

JETS LOST 2 GAMES .ONE TO THE PATS 45 TO 3 AND TODAY TO THE FINS.
ONE THING I AM SURE OFF ,WE WILL NOT LOSE 45-3 TO NEW ENGLAND .
Posted by: ALoco | December 12, 2010 at 08:18 PM
This defense is good enough to win a championship. The offense is offensive! And so is Henne! We need a QB and an offensive draft.
Posted by: capnbobby | December 12, 2010 at 08:18 PM
Any win over the Jets is a great win. If I were to tell you prior to the game that we would:
1. lose the turnover battle on the road
2. have 6 first downs
3. be more than doubled in total yardage
4. have 25 fewer plays than NYJ
5. have more than 7 minutes less time of possession
What would be the final score? 50-0 maybe? Just goes to show how stats can be misleading.

Good News:
Defense allowed 286yds net. Came into game ranked 6th defensively. this should be enough to move up a couple notches. 4th maybe?
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 12, 2010 at 08:18 PM
Somewhere Matt Ryan is on his knees thanking God he wasn't drafted by a Henning offensive system or philosophy!!
Posted by: robbyhernz | December 12, 2010 at 08:19 PM
Oline definetly needs work but Henne needs to get rid of the ball faster and when he tucks and runs he moves in slow motion. It almost seems like there's a huge hole then as soon as he decides to go he gets there too late and the oppurtunity missed. Dude is slow! as for time in the pocket he was getting more time than Sanchez that is for sure Oline didn't play horribly seeing how Carey was absent. Passing up on Vick was idiotic. Vick when he is 60 will be faster than Henne
Posted by: beerphin | December 12, 2010 at 08:19 PM
Bad news:
We may have slid to bottom of barrell offensively with today's woeful showing.
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 12, 2010 at 08:20 PM
Maybe Andy, but he threw that TD to Marshall. Look, dude, everyone knows the defense won this game, the offense is a side note here. And the last two games, Henne has flat out sucked.
But if you've been watching the last 3 years, this offense is terrible. They're way too conservative, way too predictable, way too timid. That's with a bunch of different personnel. The ONLY common denominator is that the OC was Dan Henning. A guy who's retired twice. You can't neglect the elephant in the room. Henne is overthinking but he's not given much help. When you run a misdirection, and circle the opposite direction (of the defense) and turn around, it's hard when you find a 2-receiver formation that surprises nobody. And you've seen Henne for 2 years, is THAT the guy you want out of the pocket? Henning is playing to HIS personality and not to Henne's. After awhile, a player can try, but if they KNOW the scheme sucks, it's hard to get up and TRY to make it work.
So, no, it's not just Henne. It's Henning, it's the lack of the run game, protection issues with the oline, lackluster WR play. It all starts with the QB, but it doesn't end there. Other people could have made plays, and they didn't. They can't always depend on Henne for a "spark." That sucks. I'm with you, not where you want your supposed "franchise QB" to be, but Henne may or may not be that guy. Right now, I'm with you (somewhat) because I think Henne is losing the job of QB of the future here.

well said bro. Wake isn't even being mentioned for Defensive MVP.
Look how great Mike Nolan has been to this team. He recognizes where to maximize players strengths. He did the same thing last year in Denver. He did the same thing with Cam Wake he did with Elvis Dumervil last season.
I think it's a forgone conclusion that Henning won't be back next year. I still expect Sparano to be evaluated but if he is retained he has to let go of a cordinator past his time, prime and life expectancy.
Posted by: Andy NJ | December 12, 2010 at 08:21 PM
chad h ans sparano are pathetic. get rid of sparano ... please! he is not an nfl hc!
Posted by: dolfan33 | December 12, 2010 at 08:21 PM
Passing up on Vick was not idiotic WHEN it wasn't clear what kind of player he was going to be after his layoff. I don't fault Miami for not going after him or any other team that chose not to. You can't play the hindsight game at this stage.

Posted by: robbyhernz | December 12, 2010 at 08:22 PM
Andy amd all the rest of the retards.
One question. Answer this and I'll shut up.
Who on the offense contributed to this victory?
Ronnie Brown missing blocks, fumbling, failing to pick up a fumble, giving up a sack.
Fasano? Missing blocks, giving up a sack, failing to get open.
The receivers all failing to get any separation whatsoever? Even on Marshalls TD he wasn't even open. Henne threaded the needle baby.
The offensive line? The atrocious offensive line?
How about grampa senile? 2nd and 17 calling a draw? 3rd and 15 calling a run?
My 13 nyear old pop warner teams would have beat the snot out of these imbeciles.
Despite this buffoonery, Henne played just good enough to pull a victory out of this embarrassment. Henne and Henne alone.
You freaking retards better get out of here with that bullshyt!!!!
You guys are so freaking ignorant. Do you know what would have happened to an average QB playing with this excuse of a supporting cast?
I shouldn't even have to be telling you DULLARDS this stuff-ROTFLMFAO!!!!

Sparano...is doing his best to become wannstadt Number 2....
he's going to stay with henne too long and he will never serve as a head coach again in this league....and more importantly we are going to miss an opportunity as a franchice to take advantage of Nolan's defense...because he's too good to be here very long.
Posted by: fishfan | December 12, 2010 at 08:26 PM
Well, the defense played great. Mike Nolan's crew played hard and well. Yes, they dropped a couple of interceptions but those are excused when you don't give up a TD.
Mando, the best way to not give up a TD is to TAKE THE BALL AWAY (Ints... Fumble Recoveries... what normal defenses do)
Posted by: hande | December 12, 2010 at 08:26 PM
DC,
The design of Henning's plays itself flat out sucks. Its official when numerous defenders have come out and said we knew exactly what was coming by the way we lined up.
Now throw in a young qb to a none young qb friendly Henning offensive system, then add at times woeful playing calling and you got what we've witnessed 3 years running now.
I wont even mention Ronnie's ballerina running, dropped balls, and sometimes blown assignments. When it rains in Miami it pours on the offensive side of the ball.
