Dolphins to hit road early this week

Tony Sparano is apparently doing whatever he can to shake his team up a little. And so, he is taking them on the road to their meeting with the New York Jets a bit early this week.

The Dolphins, which normally leave on Saturday for their Sunday road games, are hitting the friendly skies on Friday this week. They will practice at the New York Giants practice facility on Friday morning and be at their team hotel in the Meadowlands Friday and Saturday, rather than just on Friday.

So why the change?

Coach Tony Sparano will give his official decision on Wednesday when he meets with the media.

To me, frankly, is feels like a grasp at keeping things interesting as we begin the regular-season's final quarter.

The Dolphins went on the road a day early for the Oakland game their last road game and seemed to play well. So maybe Sparano likes how that worked out. Of course, that says nothing for the four other road victories this year in which Miami left for the venue the day before.

Maybe the coach has become superstitious.

Maybe he likes the idea of being in control of his players on Friday night -- including curfews at a team hotel -- instead of having them home where the lure of South Florida's nightlife might be too strong.

Maybe Sparano wants his team to get used to the fact it is cold up north now -- although I doubt anyone could acclimate in one extra day.

Maybe it's just a desperation move to, as I suggested earlier, shake things up a bit and keep players on their toes.

It must be noted the Dolphins are a better road team (5-1) than they are a home team (1-5). So maybe Sparano wants to get his guys on the road as early as possible.

I would say this: If the Dolphins beat the Jets, maybe they should attack their home dysfunction by getting on a flight for the games at Sun Life Stadium. Maybe they should fly from Fort Lauderdale to Miami and make the players believe it's a road game.

Because, after all, it is that 1-5 home record that seriously glows in neon as a problem -- much more than the 5-1 road record, which should be a source of pride for the team.

DB, LET SAY YOU THE GUY TO PICK A QB AT DRAFT ,WHO WOULD BE ?

Aloco,

Even if I had first overall pick I woulnt draft a qb this season. I would rather take Mark Ingram over any qb in this draft.

I believe Ingram will see more pro bowls and be around a whole lot longer. Ever so often we have a terrible class of overhyped top qb's coming out and we are about due again now.

so we keep going in the wrong direcation and not solve the QB question ?

Dear Mr. ALoco, there are a lot of us who dont feel we have a QB problem, but an OC and lack of talent around Henne problem

Aloco,

If you have a Ford Explorer and need starter and all of the parts store tells you that they have starters but only for Chevy Blazers. You dont buy a Chevy Blazer do you?

You just have to wait until Ford Explorer starters are in inventory and go on with your next option beit temporarily using the 2nd car, riding with a friend, or riding the bus. Right?

Jets Suck!

Read Dave Hyde's column in todays Sun Sentinel. He wrote a column yesterday saying the Henne Era is over. He got his ass ripped by so many people he was shocked. Read the column.

bobbyd12, i am talking another real QB as henne .i think you would agree we need 2 QB to compete for the job then we have to draft or sign a third qb ... IF henne gets injured we must have another good QB like every team in the league .

no DB, IT'S WRONG HOW YOU FIGURED THIS OUT,FORD,HONDA...NO

IT'S A BILLION DOLLARS TEAM ,WE HAVE TO GO OUT AND GET A SECOND QB BY ANY MEANS ....

Bobbyd12,

It isnt hugely that Henne doesnt have enough talent around him. Its more so that the talent around him rarely steps up. By this I mean offensively, defensively and special teams.

Dan Henning only adds to the team inconsistent doldrums too.

ALoco, sorry misunderstood. Yes, we do need a QB, someone to compete with Henne in training camp. Even though I am behind Henne, we cant just give him the job, competition is good.

AGREE W/LAST POST OF DB, THE WIEGHT OF THE WHOLE TEAM ON HENNE'S SHOULDERS ,THE COACH HAS NO SHAME ,THE ST HAS NO SHAME,THE OL HAS NO SHAME .ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE MAKING MILLIONS AND NO ONE CAME OUT TO DEFEND HENNE WHO MAKES 600,000.

P.S HENNE IN HIS FIRST YEAR AS A STARTER

Dying, after watching last nights game and all those weapons and options Brady had, we are a ways off. Speed WR, another TE, RB that can come out of the backfield and catch, Yes, Im with you 100% on Ingram and a ST playmaker. And of course NO HENNING

Im not a huge fan of needing another qb to push the one you already have. If the qb you have isnt strongly self motivated and needs to be pushed. Why not get rid of him and just let the guy brought in that does have self motivation take over his job!

WHEN WE SAY COMETE WE REALLY MEAN SOME WHO CAN PLAY LIKE THE NEXT STAR IN WAITING .....HOYER THE BRADY BACK QB .

I live up here in NY - and it's f**kin cold. If he's doing it because of the change in climate, it's not as unreasonable as it may seem.

You're right Armando, one day earlier isn't really enough time to acclimate to the cold weather. However, I can see how the extra day could give them time for the shock factor to wear off before they have to play.

Watching Brady orchestrate the Pats offense last night was like watching flying saucers roll off the assembly line while knowing your army is still on horseback and carrying bow!

I think anyone who believes Luck is going to come into the NFL and set it on fire is in for a suprise. He hasnt faced to many top defenses in his college career. Yes, he has the size, arm etc. But IMO he is going to be a project. Newton I only saw play once, last game and I cant make an opinion on only watching him play once.

Jets Suck!

Bobbyd12,

After watching Brady orchestrate the Pats offense last night it was like watching flying saucers roll off the assembly line knowing our army was still on horseback carrying hatchet and bow!

Glad its cold in NY. 1. I live in South Florida and 2. Sanchez played his first cold weather game yesterday and certainly didnt look good. Freeze baby freeze

Wide receiver Brian Hartline underwent a surgical procedure on his finger Tuesday. Doctors are waiting to see how Hartline responds before making a decision on the rest of his season, but it sounds like he could be out a while.

The second year pro was quietly coming on strong of late. Hartline had 328 yards over the last four games and 615 yards for the season. He’s averaging 14.3 yards-per-catch, easily tops among the regular Miami wideouts.

Bobbyd12,

Ive been saying this about Luck to the masses for a while now. When he plays against VA Tech in whatever bowl game that is. It will be the very first top 20 defense he has faced all season

Ryan Mallett is a glorified Tyler Thigpen on the collegiate level. Cam Newton is a more recent line of Tebow-Pat White types coming from the spread offense never ever having taken snap underneath center.

With Josh McDaniels now gone I fear Tebow's days as a qb experiment are now limited too. Newton will be a longterm project in the nfl at best. He from the exact same mold. Its great for the college game and thats it!

Dying, yea, not a dazzling QB class coming out this next draft, thats a fact.

P.MANNING WANTS 30-33 MILLION A YEAR FROM THE IND OWNER , DO YOU GUYS THINK THE OWNER WILL PASS ON HIM AND NOT SIGN HIM AND REBUILD SINCE HE HAD FEW BAD GAMES OF LATE .

Bobbyd12,

The sad thing is so many dolfans clamoring draft a qb have done absolutely no homework. All of the top prospects in this draft have greater potential of bust than most recent.

Chad Henne could have been a top 10 pick if he would have came out with this class. To me it sounds like dolfans clamoring to draft a qb to replace Chad Henne are actually suggesting replace Chad Henne with Chad Henne.

At least the Chad Henne we now have will already have 3 nfl seasons underneath his belt when this draft rolls around. Geesh!

ALoco,

If that were true we would have traded Dan Marino 5yrs before JJ even arrived here. Of course Manning will get the money. One bad season doesnt make him a bust.

Cant disagree with you on any point Dying. Hopefully this team will come out and play hard against the Jets. Have a good night, im out!!

DB,
IS IND WANTS TO STICK W/HIM FOR NEXT 4 YEARS ? I CAN TELL YOU FROM WATCHING HIM BLAMING ALL HIS PLAYERS ,WE WII SEE A LOT OF INTERCEPTIONS COMING FROM HIM .

ALoco,

I posted last night I believe Peyton's now beginning to hit the stage Marino hit coming into his about last 5 seasons or so. Man int he end it was terrible to watch. It seems nearly every pick Marino threw ended in a pick 6.

I dont know if anyone else remembers but I sure do. Marino was still very effective even to the end. Just those final 5 seasons or so of watching consistent pick 6's was absolutely horrifying to be part of.

PREDICTION

Henne will throw more tuchdown passes for New York than Sanchez. Sparano will say Henne just needs more time.

sparano is desperate and thats why he is shaking up his routine (something football coaches everywhere loathe to do). and he is doing it simply because he is a desperate and under achieving coach. please hire gruden or cowher.

The line on Matt Ryan before the draft was that he was good, but not worthy of a high #1 pick. The draft is 90% crap shoot. Sometimes you just have to take a crap.

Who else gives the nod to chuck C for funniest posts? Stil lmao about the comment about Sparano working at the Deli.

Aloco is a gay black man. He has multiple handles here.

Read through most of the blogs today. It seems like we have too many problems at this stage of the game:

QB
HC
OC
RB

Now when we should be blossoming 3 years into the 'takeover', we only have more questions, and the unavoidable truth is rumors abound that every position above is in the hot seat.

Not a good sign by any means. Who thought that 3 years ago we'd be were we are today? I'd say there is 100% dissatisfaction.

What I am, however is an oscar Mayer Wiener.

i am off the Sparano bamdwagon

Sparano is really a lovable caring man, very unselfish in bed. It was just time to move on, but I will save and cherish the sheets of our last encounter. Tony baby, you are my honey.

The longer they wait to remove the cancer (HC, OC, QB), the longer it will be before we get on track. When things get to this state, the writing is on the wall, been there done that.

Dying, can't go along with you on Henne. People can compare stats with other QBs at the same period in their careers but they showed the occasional glimpse of greatness. Henne has not done that. Not one time.

I guess it's still possible for Henne to eventually to correct his flaws. But I think at this stage, it's a long shot.

One other thing, I read today a sports writer say on his check with me plays, he went with the safe call because he didn't believe in himself. I think that's true and a big reason why he'll never be anything other than an average QB at best.

DB IS THERE NO HOPE? CAN THEY WIN AT JETS TO CHANGE YOUR MIND?

Dying, did I misunderstand your (earlier) thoughts on Henne?

cocoajoe As you say, it's a long shot. Stranger things have happened. Not betting my money on it though. Henne doesn't lead, he needs to be led.

Forecast for Sunday's game:

Cloudy, with a high near 47.
Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Dying Breed I have to disagre with you on Andrew Luck. Sure the Pac 10 isn't known for their scary fronts, or for that matter defense, except for the USC trojans who year after year produce as many defensive draft choices as the old Miami pipeline. That aside, it is hard to argue that 9-10 draft expert expects Luck to be the number one pick. You don't have to like, or agree with any of them. But it says something. The reason I think that Luck is a guy that would be the only quarterback we should even think about drafting in the first round(notice I said first round. I hope we don't panic and go this route)You cannot underestimate how playing in a pro style system benifits Luck over the 2 SEC guys. He has made all the throws required, and is used to the footwoork required to make these throws. He has percision accuracy, unlike the formentioned, and has very good pocket presence. Most of all he is smart. I don't know about Newton except he steals computers, and cheats on tests. Mallet, wears hit hat sideways and talks like Vanilla Ice. Just the guy you want leading a group of men. Again do not underestimate the importance of being able to register complex NFL schemes. This could be Lucks biggest strength.
All of this said. We probably will not agree on Luck. I just wanted to make my point about him. What I think we will agree on is that I don't think drafting a quarterback in the first round is a route this team should take. We must address the line, or running back first.

Yeah, some say you're born with it. I think that's true with some and others can learn if they have it in them.

It's been said dozens of times, there was a reason why his own teamates didn't vote him captain. The mental aspect of football doesn't get talked about very much, but it's just as important as the physical part. A good QB can go into the huddle and make the others believe they can win....to impose his will you might say. I don't see that happening.

Henne doesn't lead, he looks to be led. That is something you can't learn, you either have it or you don't.

Dying Breed- whats with the lovefest with the Pats? they beat the jets for sakez

Armando, i love how you point to the fact that miami is 5-1 on the road and plays pretty well but i WOULD like to remind you that the ONE team that they lost to on the road was a proven playoff team in BALTIMORE in which we lost to by 16 pts....Please dont get too carried away, Miami hasnt proven to anyone in the whole NFL that they can beat a Legit opponent all year long.

And im calling the win at green bay an ABSOLUTE fluke of a win so NO i dont count that as a legit victory especially with the injuries that green bay was suffering at the time!!!!

There's one reason why Henning has been kept all this time. Sparano can't really strategize or make play calls. That's why he completely relies on the experience of Henning and Nolan and given them complete control of the game. Seriously, how many O-line positions coach do you know suddenly gets catapulted into the HC position with no prior HC experience (other than for some obscure Connecticut college)? Sparano is way over his head, so he does what he can do: manage personnel, bedazzle with incomprehensible stats and act as side line cheerleader. I've been blind all this time because I like the guy. But I see clearly now that this emperor has no clothes.

Must be a slow news day for Armando. This is a non story and is nonsensical.

Love how I've been away for few hours and my clone handle has stepped in for me.

Question to my cloned handle:

Will you also go to work and bring home paychecks for me too? I would greatly appreciate it buddy. LOL

DB-I'm confused. Are you a Luck guy, or is that an imposter writing that stuff?

Darryl Dunphy,

I agree with most everything you said and pretty much said the same things myself. Regarding Andrew Luck, Im wary because the guy has faced zero top 20 college defenses and against the best defense he faced all season, which was Arizona he pretty much put up average numbers.

Luck's greatest game was against Mt Union. Mt Union sounds like some wayward boys bible college deep in Lil Abner territory somewhere.

If Andrew Luck has a very strong outing in that whatever bowl game against VA Tech, which is a top 20 defense, then he will have a little more credibility in my eyes. Of course he's the top rated qb in this draft take a look at who his peers are. LOL.......

Darryl Dunphy,

Beginning at 11:36pm I was being impersonated. The last 3 posts which includes this one is really me.

Knew Matt Roth was going to reek havoc on the Dolphins
Matt Roth tossed Brian Hartline aside and broke his finger, requiring surgery
Hartline will be out for the rest of the season
Matt Roth also put a hurting on Henne as he lay on the ground
Dolphins offense after scoring 0 points against Da Bears, only came up with an embarrassing 10 points against the Browns
