Henning (no surprise) not saying he's retiring

If you were expecting offensive coordinator Dan Henning to come into his final press conference of the 2010 season and announce his retirement to much pomp and circumstance, you are disappointed. There was no pomp. No circumstance. No announcement on Thursday.

As expected, the man who often says he only need answer to his supervisor Tony Sparano, isn't sharing anything with the media or fans.

"I'm coaching a game here, men," Henning said when asked if he is retiring. "I'm not thinking about nothing but coaching this game in New England ..."

Henning was in defend mode today. He defended Chad Henning, comparing him to Steve Young, Jim Plunkett and Phil Simms, saying they didn't hit their stride years and years into their careers. And he kind of defended himself, too when addressing the issue of scapegoats.

"It's easy to find scapegoats. It's not easy to find solutions. When you determine this guy is it and you take him out of the mix and find out it wasn't him, you find out you're wrong. So you better do the due diligence. You better dig. You better find out why you think its wrong. Why did this change. Why did the chemistry change. Are we doing the right things here, there and everywhere. That's the easy part to pinpoint someone out and take him out of the mix.

"If I am the problem, Dan Henning. If I'm the problem and you take me out of the mix and it works great after I'm gone with the same operation, hey, I'd love to be able to say, 'Take me outta here.' I don't believe that. I don't believe it's any other one individual on the offense that has caused the offense to settle down and not be as good as it has been in the past."

Correct, it's a bunch of individuals. Henning is not alone. But he has responsibility to bear for the problems, too. So does Chad Henne. So does the offensive line. So does Ronnie Brown. So does quarterback coach David Lee. So does Tony Sparano.

You don't get to be 29th in the NFL in points scored by having just one person struggle.

Hey guys, why are you giving Henning such a hard time? Someone told him that the league was competing in Punt, Pass, and Kick this year. He is actually calling that really well. If his demensia continues, we can keep punting for 58 net yds, FG for 49060 yds and line up in five wide every other play..

Arn

LOL @ Bobby......

Angryfishfan I guess you don't make mistakes huh? Wow very bad taste fishfan very bad

Here's to hoping denver loses and buffalo wins this week. If that happens, then the opportunity for the dolphins to jump ahead of the bills and draft QB Luck exists. I would offer swapping 1st round picks and giving up 2nd round picks in '12 & '13. Maybe we can sweeten the deal with some dead weight (crowder anybody?). You know your team sucks when you start thinking this way!

So we are gonna give up two second rd picks on a College QB ( Luck) who hasn't even played against ONE not ONE Top 20 Defense in his college career, much less hasnt taken one NFL snap? Is that your answer?

Lets Talk about the 'Wizard from New England" For a second shall we, #1, They have the best record in the NFL, #2, They have 10 picks in he first 3 rounds,How Does this happen????????, This must be the result of "Witchery"....

Even if Henning retires...don't you expect the Dolphins will announce that D. Lee will be the next OC? I do. To admit you have been wrong...is the first step in correcting the problem...has anyone heard that the Dolphins have been wrong in anything? Stay Tuned.

I'd Say Burn Belicheck for being a witch but the wood would probably be wet....., How does he do it year after year?????

Cuban, NE has been able to trade top name players with a year or two left to team in need for a high price. It's taken them many years to get to this point. Having the same coaching and stability over the years has a lot to do with that

Yes bobby, we should..playing against a to 20 "college" team doesn't mean anything. He will be playing against pro teams next year big difference there.

Maybe we should stick with Henne or draft Newton...he's thrown all of 15 passes in his "college" career.

but they were against a top 20 "college" defense.

FishyPete, they went outside the organization for Nolan, knowing they needed a new philosophy. If in fact Sporano stays, like I believe he will, their will be some offensive playmakers and a different philosophy I believe. I don't think promoting a guy who hasnt helped Henne progress is what they want.

A good front office and good coaching IMHO.....

fair and nice points bobby @ 7;55

And of course "Witchcraft"......

HAPPY NEW YEAR CUBAN AND EVERY ONE ELSE .

Cuban, what do you think what ireland is planning for the new year?

Pittsburgh also........

Aloco, He'll more then likely look for Dez Bryants Momma..... Just saying..

Last thing you do is mortgage the future for a chance on now. You don't see NE, Pitt or the top teams doing that. It's a losing proposition, especially on a QB. We draft a QB in the lower rounds, bring in a Vet and let them compete in camp. You also do the same thing you did last year with the Defense. Bring in an OC from outside, draft majority of offense and sign some FA playmakers on the offense. No Luck No newton, no 1st RD QBs

I THINK THIS OFF SEASON WILL WITNESS A BIG MOVES TO GET THIS TEAM GOING ..........

GONE.....

BERGER
CROWDER
V.CAREY
FASANO

Of course last year I said neither Marshall or Dansby would EVER be Dolphins, so I could be 100% wrong to. LOL

Ok Guys, The Cuban is outta here for the night, You all have a safe New Years Eve, Don't drink and drive, and dont fire any fire-arms into the air(Remember Newtons law of gravity)... PEACE to you all......

BNOBBY, SO you r saying we stick with same qb's as this year ?

this is not going to happen, ross wants a qb at his first pick to fill the air w/excitment and to compete for the job w/henne .

ALoco, I think I said sign a veteran QB and draft one in the lower rounds to compete with Henne. I am still of the philosophy that Henne hasn't started enough games, hasn't been coached properly and hasn't been set up to succeed in Henning's OC philosopy. I am all for competition though

bobby, you r saying release thigpen and forget about 550,000 his salary for 2011,,,, sounds good to me .

WE R NOW AT NO 16 AT THE DRAFT ,2 SPOTS MOVEMENT FROM 18 TO 16 .

Aloco:

Do you really not like Fasano ??

(I think he's Ok if they can get another TE to play on the opposite side...)
.
.

CROWDER MUST GO.

Send him to North Dakota
.
.

The problem with keeping the HC year-in, year-out is part of the problem we had with Jimmy Johnson. Every year, I got a promo tape from the dolphins saying "this is the year". Unfortunately, that never came to be and sticking with someone just for the sake of it makes no sense. It's misguided at best, Sparano has consistently mismanaged this team, our personnel, the clock and most importantly his staff.

All I know is that this team has been too bad for too long.

If it's not the coaching, what is it? Personnel are the coaches responsibility, so let hear it? What is it about Sparano as a coach that makes him worth keeping? Fist pumps? Clock mgmt? Play calling?

Marshall knows who feeds em, so he's not at liberty to discuss. Marshall is no TO!

fasano just got an extension. i doubt he's going

I disagree Armondo; one person can be the cause of a 29th worst offense. If the QB or the OC can be read like a comic book you don't have a chance. In our case, well you know. K Kolb has one year on his contract, there may be some opportunity there. Henning is gone, thats for sure. Henne may make a decent QB some day, but right now he is as phuqued up as a football bat. Our offense has no chance next year with either one of these two.

It's actually pretty funny....

We have Sparano and Co pretty much in Henne's head to avoid picks at all costs.

Now we read this, from Marshall....

"Just got to let it go, you know?" Marshall said in a story by South Florida Sun-Sentinel reporter Mike Berardino. "Don't worry about the consequences. Just throw it up and see what happens. Throw a pick or whatever. Let's live and die by it.

That's the problem d-dense, the fact is 3 years is certainly not enough time to turn around a 1-15 team that has spent the past 16 years making horrible choices but the fans here have no clue what "patience" means. Pittsburg ownership stuck with Cowher for 15 years before he won a SuperBowl. You think people in Miami would give Cowher or any other coach 15 years? People down here can hardly pay attention for 15 freakin minutes. We have the FORTH best defense in the league I believe. Sporano and this FO deserves to have more time to turn this around.

every one can go this offseason . you can't pay all this money to players who give you only one game a season like fasano and bess 2 good games and crowder played six games only and he's due big money next year and v.carey for sure b/c he's due big money also .

new DRAFT ORDER ;

1-SF..................... WILL PICK LUCK
2-CIN................... MALLET
3-DENVER
4-ARZ CARD............WAS NO 1 2 DAYS AGO.........
5-DET

marshall speaks the truth. he's not sure if him and henne will ever be effective together "in other words" that means he's saying henne sucks and he wants a new qb throwing to him.

it doesn't even matter. when the dolphins lose to the patsies ross will clean house. you can't listen to those bogus reports on how sparano is staying. if ross has any type of brain he would cut these people loose right after the game.

ARZ WON LAST 2 GAMES....DUMB TEAM ,THEY WERE NO1 TO PICK AND NOW THEY R NO 4 .

Yea, NFL Network, Channel 7 News and now ESPN saying Sporano is probably safe. All those "bogus" reports by those "bogus" networks. Stupidity here is amazing.

BOBBYD12. LET THE GANG OF DEFEAT SUFFER SLOWLY .

BOBBYD12, MARSHALL GAVE THE NEWS ABOUT SPARANO AWAY..IT'S VERY GOOD CLUE ,HE TALKS FOR THE TEAM .

HAPPY NEW YEAR;

DB
SUPERPHIN
D77

HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL FIN FANS AND NON FIN FANS ALIKE!

ps: u2 ALoco! LOL..........

Idk bobbyd, how long was Gruden around? In todays

In today's NFL how many HC jobs are safe with a .500 record? What makes you think that Sparano's on field game mgmt makes him deserving another year? Parcells is out, this coaching staffs on Tony. We've had serious issues not only on O, but also on ST.

As a 3rd year coach one would think that clock mgmt is a nonissue.

Look we all want the same thing, W's. Is Sparano our best chance at getting to the next level? Idk Bobbyd, but this team lacks cohesion, heart and leadership. Our O's looked rudderless all year and that's on the OC, but there's more to this problem and it comes from the top.

Gruden took over a Tony Dungy built team that was ready to win. Do you believe this team has all the pieces to win a SuperBowl but just needs the right coach? Or is this a team that has some solid pieces but is 5 or so playmakers to be there? I tend to go with the latter.

d-dense, where were we with our defense last year, where are we now? Who gets credit for that? Don't u think we should give them the same opportunity to fix the offense this off season? We are certainly in a lot better shape then 1-15 3 years ago, don't u think?

OF LATE,I NOTICE BOBBYD IS BECOMING THE WISE MAN OF THIS BLOG ,NOT YHE FIERY WHO USE TO BE .

DB, HAMONY IS GOOD AND SPARANO PROVIDE THAT FOR THE TEAM .

I'm not making excuses for Henne but I'm not 100 per cent convinced that he's healthy. I think it's a tribute to him that he's playing. I think the team decided that even a unhealthy Henne gave us the best chance to win. Lets' wait until the season is over to see who is right. My guess is he goes in and has a procedure on his knee when the season is over. I don't think we're even getting the chance to see Henne at his best. One thing Henne NEVER gets credit for is his toughness.

GArY with the silent r
Henning should be fired for the last game and let Penne call the plays for the final game..

Aloco, are you missing keys in your keyboard bro

Hey Craig..unless Henne is getting brain surgery to speed his game and decision making up is going to be the only reason he would be better in 2011...

I wish everyone, their families, and their hookers on the down low a great New Years!
Peace Love Fin's !

And Shomer Shabbas !

COWKILLA.... ARE YOU SURE PENNE CAN LAST MORE THAN 2 PLAYS ?

Am I first?
