You have to love Brandon Marshall because, yes, he's a good receiver. But he gets it.
He understands when he's being tweaked. And he knows how to tweak the opponent.
And tweak the opponent is what Marshall has just done following Miami's 10-6 victory over the New York Jets.
"My goal this week was to make sure we took advantage of this oppotunity," Marshall said. "Big stage again and it was a divisional rivalry. The Patriots beat them last week and they took a ball and buried it. And we wanted to do the same. So hopefully they bury one our balls, too."
Ziiiiiing!
You'll remember Jets coach Rex Ryan took his team out to a hole in the back of their practice facility last week and buried the game ball from New York's 45-3 loss to New England. It was a symbol of how the team could put a terrible defeat behind them.
Well, this loss can't be too palatable for New York, either. They are officially on collapse watch. And coach Rex Ryan said he considered benching Mark Sanchez during this game.
Marshall did his part in helping Miami deliver a reason for New York to bury this result and the game ball from it. He scored the game's only touchdown on a 6 yard reception from Chad Henne.

That trip was deliberate and sneaky at the same time. the league should impose a huge fine on the jets to the point where they fire this moron.
He could have ended carrols career.

I just don't think we can hold Henne responsible UNTIL we get a real offensive coordinator that can game plan for Henne's arm. Until then, I will give Henne the benefit of the doubt. Just look at Alex Smith today with San Fran... they finally called a game suited for his style and the guy erupts for a big day.
Posted by: Fins Up! | December 12, 2010 at 09:02 PM
I GOT AN IDEA FOR ALL OF YOU LETS START A PETITION WE'LL SEND IT DIRECTLY TO THE WHITE HOUSE AND GET OBAMA TO GIVE RYAN LEAF A PRESIDENTIAL PARDON AND WE'LL MAKE HENNE THE NEW DRAFT BUST IN NFL HISTORY..... you guys are completely rediculous
Posted by: fan | December 12, 2010 at 09:02 PM
I will take ANY win over the Jests... We all know Miami has is issues... we have all been sharing them for months.... "Why oh' Why" are some of you guys so foolish not to just savor a win against a hated opponent? The Jests would be doing Cartwheels right now to have made it out of there with the score flip-flopped. I do not for the F***ing life of me understand the issue when you already know the problems the team has and so does everyone else that some continue to beat a dea horse that cannot be fix until the off season. I find it amazing some of you fail to grasp that. As well I find it amazing how some fail to realize no game will ever "BE" anything more then "a Win!" or a "Loss!"... That's it... just a win or a loss... no amount of TD's or Running plays or Offensive Coordinators will change that... It is either WIN.... OR LOSE.... WE WON!!!
Try just for a day or so to enjoy it, try enjoying knowing your team beat the hated Jests... Do that, or just pack it in till next year... because what you see is what you get this year... and that... as they say... Is that!

Anyone who thinks Thigpen is going to replace Henne has the IQ of a snail. Not gonna happen, please go waste your time on another blog.

Redsky,
IMO, the Giants, not the Pats, are best team in the league. I honestly believe we could be in store for a Pats/Giants Sb rematch. I would really root for the Giants to come out on top again. LOL........
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 12, 2010 at 09:04 PM
I agree with bobbyd on this one. Stats are for losers... the important thing is winning - and we won the game.
Posted by: Fins Up! | December 12, 2010 at 09:04 PM
Fins Up, smartest post today.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | December 12, 2010 at 09:04 PM
Henne is HORRIBLE anymore. Thigpen only played bad because he had ABSOLUTELY NO PROTECTION!!!! Did any of you people who say that he sucks see the drive in the final part of the Tennessee game that he managed? And do any of you think it's just a coincidence that once the o-line was injured and had to put guys in that had NEVER once in their life played center or left tackle or whatever it was, now, with those guys in there on a very short week on top of short notice, now in that game is when the qb had 0 protection? Do you honestly think Henne could have done any better? Have you seen Henne when his line collapses? Does he suddenly get better? He crumples up instantly like a dead spider! Thigpen can at least make throws while on the run. Besides, he can make throws from the pocket when his o-line gives him one, something Henne rarely does.

THE JETS ISUED A STATEMENT SAYING THEY R LOOKING INTO THE PIZZA GUY AND STRENGTH COACH TRIPPING INCEDENT OF NOLAN CARROL AND THEY WILL TAKE STEPS SOON .
DIRT TEAM FROM TOP TO BOTTOM .
P.S ,,THE FAT COACH CONSIEDRED BENCHING SANCHEZ IN THE THIRD Q BUT HE BE BENCHED NEXT GAME
Posted by: ALoco | December 12, 2010 at 09:08 PM
Fintastic,
The only problem with your argument is that Miami had the lead then. Score determines how you play. The question is why did we have the lead? Because of Chad Henne.
Again, until we get an offensive coordinator that coaches for this century, trying to blame Henne for all the problems is silly.
Henne clearly is more gifted than Thigpen... the OC just needs to call a better game. Then if he screws it up, we'll know.
Let's not forget that even today - ol' reliable Davone Bess dropped some WELL THROWN balls that would have extended drives and perhaps made the stats look very different.

fins up, WHY NO ONE TALKS OF THE DROPPED BALLS BY THE OL TODAY
Posted by: ALoco | December 12, 2010 at 09:12 PM
henne 3-1 against the jets stop bitching. running game what? no running game.. start to look to the problem OL and how would have PM or any other QB done with that in their face all day?? Never satisfied fans, even with a win over the jets.. And were is there another QB in this league who makes $500,00. and plays on basically one wheel. Grow up fans!
Posted by: socalfan | December 12, 2010 at 09:12 PM
Fins Up! dont you realize the line hasnt been an issue in any game other than when thigpen started? The receiver dropped passes when thigpen started... the running game was lacking when thigpen started... damn you everyone around henne plays so great he just ruins it all the time for them why couldnt they all play as awesome in the bears game as they have all season and henning well that jack-ass always calls perfectly "UN"-predictable plays for henne why didnt he do the same for thigpen....
Posted by: fan | December 12, 2010 at 09:12 PM
fintastic,
I would have been absolutely terrified had Thigpen played in a game like today. Everytime he run to the edge to pass I crumple like a dead spider because of possibility of throwing for a pick 6.
Henne, Thigpen, nor any other young qb would thrive in Henning's system. The play designs are too predictable and places young qb's in far too many 3rd and longs. You need vet experience for that.
Henning's offensive system isnt young qb friendly period. Seriously! LOL........
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 12, 2010 at 09:12 PM
if the Jets don't fire him this week it just goes to show you how classless the franchise really is. That should never happen in the NFL. Especially from a coach. get that joke off the field for good. If he had injured Carroll he would be scumbag of the year. No excuses the guy should be gone. Jets organization, fans, players, coaches, and anyone else affiliated with the team should be ashamed of themselves.

DB, IT A JOKE TO SAY GAINTS ARE BETTER THAN BRADY AND CO .IN FACT I THINK THE NFL WILL LOSE MONEY IF THE PATS KEEP DESTROYING EVRERY TEAM LIKE CHI .BY HALF TIME THE SCORE WAS PATS..33 CHI..0
Posted by: ALoco | December 12, 2010 at 09:16 PM
I haven't been able to see any more replays of the sideline "knee" incident. Has anyone else seen it that can comment?
Was he blatantly trying to spear the Miami player and cause injury?
Posted by: Fins Up! | December 12, 2010 at 09:17 PM
Leave it to the Jests, you can set your watch by their annual December chokes. Insulting Jests fans (then explaining the insult to them slowly so they'll get it) is my favorite holiday tradition. Looks like the Obese Genius forgot to read the fine print on "The Sanchize" which reads "do not expose to cold or water".
Speaking of terrible QB's, has anyone checked to verify that "Chad Henne" is actually who he claims he is? Because he sure plays like some guy off the street trying to imitate a real NFL QB. Plenty of QB's, on all levels, have played games in the rain and done better than 55 freaking yards. He was absolutely woeful today and really the only reason this game wasn't a rout. Finishing at or over .500 with a QB this bad would be quite an accomplishment if you ask me, it's like having 10 1/2 players on offense. They might as well just teach Henne to punt so the real punter can get a break to catch his breath once in a while.
Posted by: Woodstrock | December 12, 2010 at 09:17 PM
GUYS, THE ONLY QB WITH MODERATE SUCCESS IN HENNING'S SYSTEM IS CHAP P. BTW HE WAS A 10YR VET.
DRAFTING ANOTHER YOUNG QB TO PLAY IN A HENNING SYSTEM IS FAR FROM THE ANSWER. NEXT SEASON WE NEED A YOUNG QB FRIENDLY OC. ONLY THEN WILL WE REALLY FIND OUT WHERE HENNE IS WITH HIS DEVELOPMENT IS.
THAT'S ALL IM SAYING.

Fins up i dont understand how all these people blaming everything on henne ask if we're watching the same game if they were watching the same game as us they'd notice the lack of run game, the WR's catching the ball as well as the DB's... no not all of henne's balls are thrown perfectly but wr's are paid to catch balls that hit them in the hands right? BM is paid to go up and fight for the pall when its thrown up to him... if we wanted someone to just run down field in ups that every pass fell right into their pocketed arms we'd still have ginn.... but i mean you obviously get it so i dont need to lecture you.... it is funny they act like they're stats pro's but they dont look at any stats other than henne's
Posted by: fan | December 12, 2010 at 09:18 PM
YES FINS UP,I SAW IT AND IT WAS VERY CLEAR THE PIZZA GUY WHO'S NAME IS ( SAL ALOSI) THE STRENGTH COACH DID IT IN A BLATANT WAY THAT JETS THEMSELVES WILL DO SOME THING VERY SOO .
Posted by: ALoco | December 12, 2010 at 09:19 PM
DyingBreed just hit the nail on the head.
It does not matter WHO is the QB. Unless we get an OC that will construct a game plan that is suited for the QB's talents, we will get the same inconsistent results.
The fact that Henne has even looked good at times is a surprise with Dan Henning as our OC.
Posted by: Fins Up! | December 12, 2010 at 09:19 PM
Aloco,
Im sure you're to lazy but check nfl.com. In offensive and defensive rankings the Giants are far and away the most overall balanced team in the league. They are 8-4 and have been coming on like gangbusters too.
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 12, 2010 at 09:21 PM
BobbyD12,
That is the scariest and sickest part about this all. Henne is HORRIBLE but Thigpen? Lol. We have nothing to go to. Henne was already benched once this year. If Thigpen could have made Miami competitive against Chicago then maybe and a slim maybe he would get a shot again this year but at this point fellas it's Henne's job the rest of the way.
Posted by: Andy NJ | December 12, 2010 at 09:21 PM
oh FINS UP the henne haters also fail to realize that the Higher ups dismantled last years O-line trying to improve it.... but that's probably actually henne's fault as well
Posted by: fan | December 12, 2010 at 09:22 PM
the sideline knee was deliberate and he went out of his way to stick his knee out while Carroll was passing him. I'm not sure which is worse Channing getting spit on or the jet coach intentionally tripping a player from the sideline. Just reading that makes me furious. Rex Ryan should do something or the guy is all talk. That BS should never happen in the NFL ever. If it had been a Miami coach i'd be saying the same thing and the guy should be gone for good.
Posted by: beerphin | December 12, 2010 at 09:22 PM
TO THE CREDIT OF TONY SPARANO ...OUR PLAYERS AND COACHES ARE FIRST CLASS PEOPLE,YOU NEVER SEEN OR HEAR ANY THING BAD ABOUT THEM OR TRIPPING ANY OPPOSING PLAYER AND RISK A KNEE INJURY TO THEM .
GO FINS
Posted by: ALoco | December 12, 2010 at 09:22 PM
@finsup---ss has video--it's prolly on verge of viral now, so you oughta be able to find it..
slow mo & close up/zoom show intentional movement by Alosi to trip Caroll. He oughta pay. It;s up to ROss & Ireland to take the offensive, cuz Goodell won't go vs WQoody Johnson unless prodded.
Posted by: The Seer | December 12, 2010 at 09:22 PM
ALoco... that is just sad and classless, then... that someone who DOESN"T EVEN PLAY in the game would explicitly do that. That is intent to injure - especially considering the speed those guys run at... that could have blown out his entire knee system if the hit was lateral knee on knee.
Posted by: Fins Up! | December 12, 2010 at 09:23 PM
the Knee is on YOUTUBE just look up "jets bench trips miami player"
Posted by: fan | December 12, 2010 at 09:24 PM
fins up,
It isnt just gameplan, the offensive design of Henning's plays itself are poorly designed, too predictable, and easy to defense. Hennings play designs it self would score last place on "Who's Smarter Than A 5th Grader."
Posted by: DyingBreed | December 12, 2010 at 09:25 PM
DB, I LOVE YOU VERY MUSH BUT NEVER EVER AGAIN TAKE A SIDE AGAINST THE FAMILY AGAIN,EVER .
Posted by: ALoco | December 12, 2010 at 09:26 PM
I'm thinking draft already boys and this win moves us about 4 spots the wrong way on the big board - who cares about wins now? Repeat after me "THE DOLPHINS ARE NOT A PLAYOFF TEAM" Another good draft and a little luck with injuries and next year could be a good year - if we get a QB worth a wooden nickel
Posted by: jayhall222 | December 12, 2010 at 09:27 PM
DB, right... kind of like the games against Pittsburgh and the one against Cleveland - both times with under 1:40 to play left - Henning calls for a RUN on FIRST DOWN and puts the Fins in a LONG situation right out the gate. Dan Henning is awful and it is a wonder that the Henne and the team have won as much as they have.
Posted by: Fins Up! | December 12, 2010 at 09:27 PM
jayhall222,
I feel the same way about it but a win vs the jets is worth 10 draft slots.

Posted by: DyingBreed | December 12, 2010 at 09:36 PM
Jesus ! Henne was unbelievably bad. Slow footed, undivisive , stumbling, bumbling, bad passes. He looked like Duh'ta FumblePepper. And why can't they fix the play calling ? Roll the QB out, put him in the shotgun. When things are bad you have to change things up. The offense looked like the special olympics out there. 1st Rd pick QB and hire Pennington as QB coach. Fire the coachs except Nolan.
Posted by: Phin4Life | December 12, 2010 at 09:36 PM
I can't believe we are trying to blame Henne for two fumbles. He got CRUSHED by an UNBLOCKED player. He got crushed all game. Our offensive line is going to get him killed. I can't believe he even got up after that hit. And if our o-line is that bad why aren't we doing slants and screens and more draws. Brown fumbled but the draw was at least there. I think Henning quit and knows he's gong to retire.
Posted by: Moneyjacket | December 12, 2010 at 09:37 PM
beerphin, Cam Newton - in all honesty - would only be better in short term if at all. He's the kind of QB that when a game plan is worthless he can make the most out of it. But Henne - with the right game plan - has more long term potential.
Cam Newton - for all we know - is the next JaMarcus Russell. There are plenty of QB in college that do great things at the college level but cannot adjust to the speed of the NFL game and Newton is probably one that one adjust either.
Posted by: Fins Up! | December 12, 2010 at 09:38 PM

YES, I agree 100 %. Dude is most dominant college player since Vince Young, and IMO he's even better than VY ever was. Newton's a horse, and he can throw. Little details need to be straightened out, but he ain't a Pat White/Timmy Tebow style project. I think he's much more mature and ready to be a Qb in the NFL.

Not accusing you of being racist, so don't take this the wrong way, but I can't help but think you are only saying this because they are both big and black. BUT, if you watch footage of the 2 in college and compare, you will realize how offbase your assessment is. Russel was big sluggish and mentally slow. Newton is a stud in the mold of Tim Tebow but hes a much, much better passer than Tebow could ever be...IMO
Posted by: CamNewton2011 | December 12, 2010 at 09:46 PM
Miami needs to stop playing to avoid losing and play to win.
If the running game isn't working throw to the running backs in space...
They can't run on first and second and expect Henne to constantly pick up 3rd and long.
Sparano will need to grow a pair if this team plans on competing in the AFC.

I only said it because they have similar playing styles that bode well in college but have never panned out in the nfl. I really don't care what color they are. I just don't think he will be a good nfl qb.
