RoboHenne is back and that is not a good thing

One of the things I perceive is a problem with quarterback Chad Henne is his robotic, unfeeling, almost zombie-like approach to playing his position.

Henne would never think of calling a freak audible that isn't dictated by the defense or coaching staff. He follows his progression of reads even if it means throwing a 4-yard pass to Ricky Williams with 23 seconds to play from his own 28 yard line when he's got no timeouts and needs to go 45 yards to line up for a game-tying FG.

Heart? Passion? Emotion? Nowhere to be found.

It drives me crazy.

Henne had one game when he played like a guy with a big heart in his chest and emotion coarsing through his body this season: The Raiders game on November 28. He has since gone back to the uninstinctive, unemotional, uninspired, unsatisfactory play that we saw before he got benched.

On Sunday, however, Henne took robotics to a new high. He did it on the field. And he did it in his post-game press conference to the point he is starting to lose credibility.

To recap: On Sunday the Dolphins lost their sixth home game in seven outings. The offense was largely ineffective against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The loss eliminated the Dolphins from the playoffs.

The pain and meaning of the day was captured by perfectly by Brandon's Marshall, who issued a finely tuned apology to his defensive teammates for the offense's poor play. Marshall also said it was everyone's fault, including coaches, that the offense is not producing. (You can read Marshall's statement in the previous post.)

Henne followed less than a minute after Marshall spoke. And he totally lost me.

(On Brandon Marshall’s comments apologizing to the defense) – “I mean it’s not embarrassing. Obviously we didn’t do what we wanted to do out there execution wise and finishing the game but we win and lose as a team; there’s no pointing fingers. That’s about it; we win and lose as a team.”

What he should have said: I can't blame Brandon for feeling the way he does. I can't disagree, either. No one with a brain would.

(On whether it was frustrating being taken out of the game late while the Wildcat was run) – “Well I mean that’s the coach’s decision. They make the call and if they feel they can run something with the Wildcat and make some positive yards, we’ll do that.”

What he should have said: Frankly, yes. I think Wildcat has a great place in our offense but when the game is on the line, I want the ball in my hands. And I don't want to comment beyond that.

(On whether the fans were justified in booing with only one home win) – “They’ve been booing the last couple weeks so I guess we’re used to it. We, we don’t want to go out that way. It’s a sick feeling for us. I mean to not have home field advantage in this league is, it’s tough and it’s not like we’re not trying out there not to win at home. I mean there’s a lot of guys out there with a lot of heart playing, playing their hearts out out there for our fans and our home field advantage out there.”

What he should have said: Yes. We work for them and we haven't given them enough reasons to cheer, enough reasons to show up in droves, enough reasons to be happy. It is on us. They react to us. We don't react to them.

(On what he would change to get more touchdowns rather than field goals) – “I mean put it on our shoulders. Whatever is called, we’re not going to point our fingers at our coaches or players. Whatever is called we have to execute. We had some negative plays there, some penalties that hurt us. It’s just execution. We’ll put it on our shoulders as players to execute the play that’s called and making the decision after that.”

What he should have said: I would change my execution. It needs to improve. I'm the starting QB. I touch the football on every play. If I perform at a certain level, we'll score more points. Having said that, I'm still learning and I need to get better. Be patient. I'll get there.

I believe the Dolphins will go searching this offseason for a quarterback that doesn't play robotic and isn't seemingly walking on egg shells because the coaches have brow beaten him and turned him into a double-talker.

The Chad Henne I've seen this year is not that quarterback.

NEWTON WILL BE GONE BY PICK NO 4 .

Henne plays exactly like Pennington did. What did the three stooges think would happen.
Penny had a hard time holding the Jets starting job when they were s h i t t y.

As far as yesterday he served up 2 tds and 4 fg attempts. Henne put the winning points on the table multiple times and Carpe left them there.

Last word: Henne completes more than 60% of his passes and has a winning record in the NFL. That means he'll be starting for some team for the next 10 years.

He's not that bad in fact he's already tied the following QB's for career super bowl wins: Marino, Kelly, Rodgers, Romo, Rivers, McNabb, Cutler, Orton etc.

Mando, I couldn't agree more about Henne. I watched Brandon say everything that was dead on and then Henne comes on and I wanted to reach through the screen and slap his robot face. Look back through the after game interviews and its' the same answer. It's not life or death, we'll look at the film and see where we went wrong and fix the mistakes. How much more film can this broken robot look at to finally get it??? I can't watch Henne interviews anymore or his play on the field without becoming furious. Either he doesn't get it or his programming chip is faulty.

Aloco, we can't copy the NE team. Everyone talks about running more spread sets..the fact is, the way this team is constructed, we can't do it. We're big & slow. NE is small & fast. It'll take years of drafting. We need a change in philosophy for that to happen.

For a qb to not win a super bowl by the end of his 2nd season as a starter is typical.

He'll need to put in 13 more seasons of not winning it to move into Marino's elite status.

I think henne is playing it cool. he knows he is playing for morons, and calling them out does no good. He knows his receivers are all possession types. he knows other than long (injured) that his line is trash.

JOE, WE CAN BE FAST AND SMALL NEXT YEAR BY RELEASING;

FASANO AND HARTINE AND DRAFT A 2 RB ,40 WR AND 30 TE AMONG THEM FEW MIDGETS AND WE WILL FIND AMONG THESE GUYS DIMONDS ,FORGET THE DL THIS YEAR .

Chris,

You telling me if Sparano starts Thgipen this week the fans will show up? This I gotta see. The number of empty seats yesterday AGAIN was embarassing!! Ross doesn't care about this stuff. He only cares that they've had their 100 sellouts in a row. He gets the money whether fans show up or not. Thigpen putting butts in the seats is a good one!!......LOL

Miami lacks a Home Field advantage.

Do I think more people would show up Sunday because of the "hope factor". Yes. Would it be little more than a public relation move, no. I stand by my statement. What other high profile change could we make by Sunday that would create some buzz? None. I wish they would fire Henning today but due to his tenure and the "respect factor" I don't see that happening.

This is what puzzles me. Henne was 30-45 something like that right? He had something like 275 yards(I don't care about this total). We failed to hit 20 carries agaisnt Buffalo? There isn't much more to say. Somebody needs to tell Sparano, Henning, or who ever makes the calls in this orginization. That we do not have a quarterback that is capable of throwing the ball 45 freakin times a game. For this matter there are maybe 3-4 teams that are going to win when they have to throw that much. It is insanity. I don't know if Henne is any good. But this isn't the point. There aren't but a handful of quarterbacks that would win having to drop back and chuck it aqs much as Henne has been asked. If this orginization thinks that having the ball in Hennes hand gives us the best chance to win, perhaps it is time they get their heads checked.

Morono just said Henning has done a good job

LOL

armando i see that you aren't attacking the coaching staff...SHOCKED.

Darryl, it's even more obscene when all he has to work with is 2-3 man routes. Throwing that many times to so few options...If you're gonna open it up and wanna wing it, do that. But not with the offense as it's presently designed.

They really gave up on the run after the 2nd & rd series when Buffalo stopped us on 3rd & 2 on consecutive drives.

Miami's offense is a disaster on MANY fronts.

luck, newton, mallet, locker will be gone by pick 10.

panthers, 49ers, cards, bungles, skins, seahawks all need QBs.

we are screwed because we didn't draft matt ryan.

Chris,

I'm still chuckling that you think people will show up to see the star quarterback Tyler Thigpen taken on the Lions on Sunday. This I have to see! A BUZZ.....from Tyler Thigpen? He couldn't even generate a BUZZ when he had the Nationally televised game on the NFL Network against the Bears a few weeks ago. I almost wish that Sparano would start Thigpen this week just to end any more sonversation about Thigpen being potential starter for this team.

The thing that really makes my balls itch is Sporano never going for it on 4th down near the goal line. That right there says that he isn't willing to take chances and the effect trickles through the entire team. They play safe in all aspects of the game.
I agree with Odin that we would see a different approach with a new OC and give Henne the reigns to mix it up a bit now and then.I'd rather see our guys go for it on occasion.I don't know if Cowher is the answer, but it couldn't get any worse.
Henne one more year with a new OC,and if that doesn't work then Odin owes everybody a huge apology.
That's what makes my balls itch.

I will continue to type offence and defence because that is correct ENGLISH!

And switch to the metric system already!!!

"Buffalo Bill"

Dude, the Dolphins rival is the the stinking, cheating Jets. The Bills rival (in their own minds) is still the Dolphins. The Bills are irrelevant to most Dolphins fans. They have been since about 1998 when Doug Flutie got crushed at the 10 yard line in the playoffs by Trace Armstrong. Its not like the Dolphins have been overly successful since then either, but the "0 for the 70's" is over and your "hollow" victories against the Dolphins in the early 90's are over.

Congrats, you found a QB. That's your silver lining this year. Now go watch some Thurman Thomas highlights and "reminisce" about the Super Bowl years.

BND, it could also be crabs.

Well Craig, unlike most things that are discussed on this forum my prediction is objective. Either the move is made or it isn't. Black and white. We'll have our answer in a few days.

Again, just to be clear I don't think it would be a positive move but a PR move. Granted with the playoffs out of reach now it may not matter.

Still amazing to me that some guys think we lost yesterday because of Henne. Not sure what this guy has to do to get a break. I believe the fans in Miami were spolied for so many years by Marino and still think the quarterback should be winning games for us. Marino never had to deal with the inferior talent we have on the field right now or the inept play-calling we have to witness every week. I still feel Henne week in and week out is being unfairly compared to Marino in what a QB should be. It's a totally unrealistic comparison.

No True Coach will come to Miami under the prevailing Stadium conditions.

Here is the best part. So we put it in Hennes hands 45 times. And in the fourth quarter he starts looking great. A different guy. This is a defining quarter for the whole franchise. Lets take it out of his hands NOW and run a wildcat play that is sure to put us in 3rd and long. The Henning special if there has ever been one. Way to dial up a doozy there??? This is a joke.

These People cannot take offence, Mark.

IAM ALL OUT OF PAINT THINERS,CAN SOMONE HELP A SERVANT OUT?WHAT SHOULD I INHALE NOW,I POST IDIOT THINKS LIKE TED GIN IS GREAT.SOMEONE SHOT ME AND PUT ME OUT OF EVERONE MISERY.

Craig M, I agree with you, but you have to consider last year's draft was very deep...this year's draft is projected to be weak at best. If I'm not mistaken, we also lack a 2nd round pick. This means to get the type of offensive help through the draft that we were able to achieve defensively in last year's, we'd have to nail every single pick and pray the talent in the later rounds is starting material. I don't think that's going to happen. What this draft is deep in is quarterback. We either trade up for the guy we want, or concentrate on other areas of weakness and grab someone later and pray that our new OC wakes Henne the hell up. Something scary: the Patriots are rebuilding this year via last years draft, and they are the best in the AFC. They also have two picks in each of the 1st three rounds of the upcoming draft. You're right though...this draft has to be all about offense. Period.

Mark in TO,

Amen brother, on the proper English comment.

I see where Mike Shanahan is saying he thinks John Beck has an excellent future in this league. Could Cam Cameron have been right all this time? It used to be Mike Shanahan knew something about QBs. Is this just a smokescreen before they grab Newton or Mallett next year?

I CAN PAINT GOODLY AND KNO HOW TO PLAY THE PIANO GOODLY TO.I ALSO CAN COUNT HOW MANY TOOTH PICKS FALL ON THE FLOR.CAN YOU GUZ DO THAT?

What puzzles me is the abrupt change from the promising last and before last years to the sorry state this Franchise is in now. Any ideas?

I don't need another year to see if Henne can rise above mediocrity.
Mando says he's robotic so that's good enough for me:-)
Henne will be robotic no matter who's the OC or what the offensive scheme is.
The stripes of the Tiger never change...we need a new Tiger.

GRAIG M, GOOD POST @ 12;12

OCSCER ITS BCAUSE CAHD HEING ONLY MAKS 600 DOLARS A YEAR.

THE FAKE ALOCO IS FUNNY .

I FLIP FLOP MOR THEN A MAFIOSA BOSS ON THE WITNESS STAND.

You don't make much more, do you ALoco?

OSCAR SOUND LIKE A MIDGET

AND A DONKEY.

- See you in the Playoffs. - You know it. Interchange between Rex and and Mike at the end of yesterday's game.

and we didnt consider M Vick why?

John Beck was 26 when he was draffted in 2007 - got to be pushing 30 now - I don't see how he's a future anything in the NFL besides a coach.

trini, you think these bozos on offense would have known what to do with M Vick? The Philly coaches are actually bright on offense.

Hey Mando! It would be great if you could find out what in the hell was going on with wasting a timeout on 3rd and 2 after Cobbs caught a controversial pass. Were we being gentlemen and allowing Gailey to review the play to see if it really was a reception? Or, was it Henne, Henning, Sparano, or all three not knowing what to do in that situation? I personally think Henne wastes far too many timeouts. In that situation, he should have gotten the team to the ball and handed off to Polite. Simple! Two tries and Lou would have made the first down. He'd made it on third and two when the other team would not have known what hit them so quick.

This is the best example that Henne is not a leader -- and never will be. A leader doesn't blink in that situation or wait for the call to come in from the sideline. They lead! Henne cannot even think for himself, let alone lead.

Did any of you Henne bashers watch the game or are you just too stupid to process the info you saw? Like Armando said, like I've said on here before: this kid gets brainwashed by these coaches: "dont turn it over, dont turn it over". Thats why he plays tenative...most of the time. Look at what he did in the 4th Q when he was just playing and reacting. Two clutch drives, the 2nd ruined by inept play calling and a poor kick. With better coaching this kid becomes an above average QB. LET HIM TRY AND MAKE PLAYS INSTEAD OF PLAYING TO NOT MAKE MISTAKES!! He'll never be Brady or Manning, but you dont need those guys to get to a SB. (see: Hasselbeck, Grossman, Brad Johnson, Dilfer, N. O'Donnell, Hostetler, Rypien, Roethlisberger (as a rookie), Delhomme). Henne could be better than most of these guys who made it to, or won SB's

I'm still not sure if this is the real Henne, or the overcoached (Henning, Sparano, Lee - in that order) Henne?

I mean, I'm all for change when needed, but replace him with who? Some mid-first round pick like Jake Locker? McNabb?

Can we see Henne with an OC who has some balls and then decide?

REF,CAHD HENING ONLY MKES ^)) DOLARS AB YEAR,BLAME THE COLAPSE ON TH GUY THAT MAKES 23 TRILLONA YEAR MARSHAL MATHEWS.

Montreal, Canada sucks. Stick to your second rate league. You don't know squat.

Posted by: Shaggy Dec 19th 2010 21:07

Dude, just so you know, the only player worthy of going to the Pro Bowl to represent the Dolphins this year is a product of that second rate league. The only exciting player on that entire roster. Yeah, from that second rate league. So next time, before you post, try using that pea brain of yours just a little bit more before insulting me you fu**** dumb a**.

One of the things this organization has done a REALLY poor job of and doesn't get the criticism it deserves is finding weapons for Henne. Here's a list of SOME of the guys we have passed up in recent years in the draft...

Desean Jackson
Kenny Britt
Hakeem Nicks
Jeremy Maclin
Rob Gronkowski
Aaron Hernandez
Percy Harvin
Rice in Minnesota
Mario Manningham
Dez Bryant
Thomas in Denver

And there's more.....

All these teams went out and got their young QBs receiver to throw to. What do we do? We draft Patrick Turner in the third. Can't get on the field. Hartline in the fourth, good but not great. Bess is a FA add. Moore, FA add. Wallace, FA add. When will we get Henne some weapons? Some guys that can stretch the defence. Some guys that can get open in the redzone. Some guys that can up and get the ball. Some guys that put some fear into the other teams defence. We have NOBODY like that, with the possible exception of Marshall.

I'm on record as saying, we need to grab a WR or pass catching TE in the first round next year. Yes, the line has to be fixed and yes, we need to improve the running game but enough of the band aid solutions. Time to get some weapons.

HENNE SHOULD HIRE A SMART AGENT FOR HIS NEW CONTRACT COMING UP .

600 DOLARS A YEAR

GRAIG, WE GOT HENNE B.MARSHALL , I THOUGHT .

YES ITS TRUE I SEW HENING MAKING 606 DOLARS THIS UPCOMEING YEAR CAUSE HES WORTH EVRY PENNY

WE HAD THE GREAT TED GIN LAST YEWAR AND DIDT GO TO TGH SUPR BOWL,WHAT ABIOUT THAT.

And BTW, can we all put an end to the Cam Newton thing? He might be a good NFL QB in 8-10 years. He's Tebow: great in college, prob not gonna be too much in the pros

I MISS TED GIN MY HERO

Tell him Montreal - people like to slag the CFL but there's been many great football players and hall of famers that were developed north of the border.

Go GSP on his ass!!!

Fire someone. Anyone. Today.

ESPN sources reported this morning that Bill Cowher wants to return to coaching, and one of the THREE teams he is interested in is the Dolphins. Please Mr. Ross, Cowher would be an awefully nice Christmas gift to the long suffering Dolphans. This playing not to lose and working toward a FG instead of a TD has got to go.

TED GINS STATS FOR SAN FRAN 11 CATCHES for 100 YARDS AND - 2 YARDS AFTER HE CACHES IT THIS IS WATS MIMI MISSES THE MOST FROM MY HERO

We are keeping henne whether people like it or not. I don't care who the HC is but henne will compete for our QB next year. No new HC is gonna cut henne without actually seeing what he can do. But he'll for sure have competition.
I do think sparano and henning both need to go.

Mark in Toronto, my 2 best friends are Americans. I love the US. This guy is just an idiot. Idiots are everywhere, not just in the States.
