Plans to patch the holes in the works

The Dolphins are hoping right tackle Vernon Carey and wide receiver Brian Hartline can play against the Jets. Sorry, fellas, but hope doesn't often cure a sprained knee and a broken hand/finger.

Therefore the team would do well to make other plans -- just in case.

And it is.

"We have plenty of backup plans," coach Tony Sparano said today, "and we're sitting here on Thursday and [neither] practiced so those plans are in motion."

Hartline is the less likely of the two players to participate in Sunday's game against the Jets. The backup plan with him is for everyone to yell, in unison, "Braaaaandon, please come out and play!"

That's right. Brandon Marshall, who has missed the past two weeks with a strained hamstring, has been limited once again this week in practice. But at least he's practicing. So the Dolphins are hoping he'll be available for the Jets.

That means Marshall and Davone Bess would start while Roberto Wallace and Marlon Moore back up and enter in multiple receiver packages. Moore, by the way, has to step up his game off last week. He dropped a pass and ultimately went without a catch against Cleveland -- a step back from the Oakland game.

While Hartline seems less likely to play than Carey, the situation is more serious at the right tackle spot behind Carey because the "plans in motion," pretty much stink, frankly.

Without Carey at right tackle, the Dolphins may resort to Pat McQuistan, John Jerry, Lydon Murtha, or gulp, rookie Matt Kopa at the spot. Maybe the team can convince Ron Heller to come out of retirement for a couple of hours and he can play the spot.

None of this instills confidence because the Dolphins are hoping to fire up an otherwise extinguished running game, and mixing and matching offensive linemen is not the way to do that. If' I'm the Jets, by the way, I'm expecting a lot of running plays to the left.

On the other hand, the Dolphins could resort to throwing the football and hoping quarterback Chad Henne can get the ball off before Jason Taylor or Calvin Pace smashes him in the face after beating whomever is playing right tackle.

Actually, it's not that bad. The Jets are not a great pass-rush team. But the situation I've just painted should show how much the Nate Garner injury really hurt Miami this year.

The guys at the back end of the roster (who are inactive every week) haven't done anything this year. Putting Will Allen and Nate Garner on IR was a brutal decision. They should have kept W. Allen, this way they wouldn't have had to trade Camarillo and would have had depth at WR.
And we could have really used Nate Garner this year as well.

Armando - nice Ronnie Brown video on last post.

Armando - any chance the Jets still have a hangover from that Foxboro beat-down?

Armando,

Do you have a problem with the execution with our offense? Just like John McKay said, "I have no problem at all with the execution of our offense."

Armando - will you be joining in on all the talk about next year's draft?

Armando - do you remember the 104 yards of offense against the Jets last year?

I have found a solution to all of my being a dolphins fan.......

Im becoming a Bear fan. That way I can go into full hibernation until this team finally becomes a winner again! LOL.......

Somebody call Joe Plummer, the 2010 season is already going down the toilet.

Rex Ryan is already got about 20 blitz package, and I'm sure he's going after the RT. I just hope Henne make it through in one piece, but not until he threw 5 INT. Good luck Henne, may the force be with you.

Collectively, we arguably have a top 10 nfl offense personel wise. Yet we are bottom 10 points scored.

Many fans point to this and that as the primary problem. But to me this points to a gaping offensive systemic problem. Who runs our offensive system?

Lots of Wildcat....do you smell it?

Certainly expected more out of Jerry this year. My expectations were too high

Hey, as long as we have dudes who can block on the FG TEAM, we should be ok....

If you don't have anyone solid to fill in at right guard, you don't move Jerry out to tackle.

The situation sucks, but the solution is simple. Besides, we don't have a lot of choices. Keep Jerry at guard and wing it with McQuistan.

All that roster churning the week Parcells bailed and McQuistan is the best option we got? Oh well, I bet his Momma ain't no Ho! Well played Jeffy!

As far as Hartline, I like Bess and Wallace anyways.

Brandon, we know the seasons over and we're only playing for pride. The question is: Do you have any?

Armando how many more games do we have to loose before they pull the plug on henning or your guess is they will just ride him out till the end cuz we have not other option?????

Dolphins' O is putting the "FOOT" back in "Football"

Dan Carpenter for MVP!!!

Henning does know those fgs are worth only 3 points, right?

Who plays Lombardi's OC in the show, and can we get him for Sunday?

SureShock 4 games Henning wil finish year, too late to do anything else

WHAT KIND OF ICE CREAM DO YOU LIKE ODIN ?

Did you guys see on espn.com that we are tied for 5th in the league with only 24 3-and-outs? I can't believe it. Talk about stats telling you nothing. Looking at it, I'd say we have one of the worse offenses in the league, yet, in that particular stat, we're at the top. Who woulda thunk it?

NOW IS THE TIME TO REALLY LOSE TO GET IN A BETTER DRAFT SPOT .

CHAD.P DIDN'T GO TO WATCH THE SHOW W/THE TEAM .HE'S GOING TO HAVE AN OPARATION ON HIS SHOULDER ON FRIDAY .

dan carpenter for mvp

DC..... IN A SURVEY OF THE MOST LOVED TEAM IN THE NFL BY IT'S FANS ;

DOLPHINS RATED NEAR THE BOTTOM ,THEY SAID FIN FANS WHO GO TO THE GAMES THEY LEAVE EARLY AND WE R THE MOST EATING FANS .BUYING THAT HOT DOG MUST BE SOME THING .

Who gives a sh*t. Both teams suck. Both quarterbacks are awful. And NEITHER team is winning the Super Bowl this year.

Did anybody read any of Dan Hennings weekly press conference today?

I'm paraphrasing, but in essence he said he thinks the team is a lot closer than it appears right now.

With a solid draft we should be ready to compete with the elite teams.

Ultimatelt, that winning the Super Bowl next year would be the icing on the cake for his long and illustrious career.

WTF? I don't know if Dan knows something I don't or if I knopw something Dan don't.

The point is, I think I might be on the verge of seriously considering suicide!

ODIN, GIVE IT A REST ALREADY....THE TEAM ISN'T GOING ANY WHERE BUT BROADWAY ..BE HAPPY AND GET SOME ICE CREAM TO EAT AND GIVE HENNING A BREAK .

And in further news, Dan Henning also believes that aliens have landed and are planning to take over Chad Pennington's body, thus healing his shoulder and allowing him to play AND throw for 700 yards on Sunday against the Wets.

I AM HAVING PISTACHIO ICE CREAM

Aloco,

All my opinions aside, the guy just said he wants to return for at least one more year.

Put down the ice cream cone and answer me one question.

You don't find that the least bit alarming?

PS: Oops, just dropped a shotgun shell and it rolled up under my dresser!!!!

Oh no whatever shall we do!! The great Vernon "the turnstile" Carey isn't playing! How will we be able to make up for the massive amount of mediocrity he brings to the table?!!!

ODIN, IF HE SAID THAT ,I AGREE W/YOU THEN .STILL, I DON'T FOLLOW HIM ANY MORE ,HE'S A DAMGED GOODS . ICE CREAM IS GOOD WHEN YOU EAT 3 SPOONS ONLY NOT A HUGE AMOUNT OF IT .

Fins top 10 offense collectively. Are you high??? No way in hell...we have the worst offensive personnel in the division...you don't wanna start talking about league wide.

You guys are misunderstanding me. Probably because of my paraphrasing.

Hennings is talking about making a run at the 2012 Super Bowl. Thus, next seasons Super Bowl, HELLO!

PS: I can't reach that durn shotgun shell, the last one I had too. I guess I'll dig out my ladder and swan dive off the peak of my roof!

ODIN, WHO'S THE HIGHEST PAID COACH IN FOOTBALL ??

If Jeff Ireland and Sparano let Henning come back then I will be the first in lime screaming "fire everybody" Ross has to know no one wants this relic anywhere near this team

WHY THE COACHES IN THE NFL DON'T WEAR SUITS LIKE BASKETBALL ?

Who's to say Garner wouldn't be starting at one of the guard spots if he were healthy? Because both guard spots have been below average. Dolphins need to find a permanent right tackle and move Carey to right guard. He could be a pro-bowl player at guard.

They won't score double-digits this week.

sibytes....how you know Carey would be a pro-bowl player if he's moved to guard .

What Football coach wants Gatorade all over his suit?

Aloco,

I'm not very familiar with players salaries, let alone the coaches salaries. Basically the only numbers I know are the ones you post.

Because of the rebuilding and the uncapped year I've lost track. Unless it involves a trade, signing a restricted free agent, or cap issues I'm not really up to date.

The last time I was coaching they paid me about twenty dollars a week and free pizza for me and the kids on Saturday Nights!

Nobody wants to wear a suit unless they HAVE too, WTF kind of question is that?

Odin, sounded like a deal. that would buy a nickle bag and 10 beers, add free pizza, whooo hooo, so ive heard

good point bobby.

odin, Bilichick IS THE HIGEST COACH W/ 7.5 MILLION A YEAR IN THE NFL AND SECOND IN ALL OF SPORTS AFTER THE LAKERS COACH .

Carey would automatically be top-3 in the running game if he were a guard. He's a people mover. He's gained weight and has struggled with a knee issue. Dolphins still need guards. Carey is part of the solution.

ANOTHER QUESTION ,,,,WHO'S THE ONLY COACH WHO STOOD ON THE SIDE LINE FEW YEARS AGO WEARING A SUIT AND AFTER THE GAME THE NFL CALLED HIM IN AND SAID NO MORE SUITS ????????

A-NOLAN THE DC OF THE DOLPHINS WHEN HE WAS THE HC FOR THE 49'S .HE WORE A SUIT IN THE FIRST GAME SINCE HE WAS HIRED BY THE 49'S .

Bobby,

I know what you mean. My attorneys would always tell me to wear suits for court.

I never listened-LOL!

OK Guys, Should I start Dan Carpenter as my Kicker in fantasy football?????????

Bobby,

When I coached little league I was sane and sober. Well, sober anyways.

The twenty dollars was gas money, I coached voluntarily, and the pizza was for the kiddies.

I don't think I liked the sound of your reply. Matter of fact I think it sounded like fake Bobby!!!!

THE REASON BOBBYD12 THAT NFL DOESN'T ALLOW COACHES TO WEAR SUITE IS B/C ALL THE MONEY COMING FROM THE SPORT COMPANIES TO DRESS THESE COACHES W/JACKETS ,HATS AND THE LIKE .

VERNON CAREY IS OUT ON SUDAY

Aloco, Nike supplies coachs with there wardrobe, but unfortunately Nike has'nt come out with a sports coat.... Yet..

Cuban,

Start Carpenter.

All season the Dolphins are up one week, down the next.

Their due for a big game this week so Carpenter will probably kick at least 5 field goals.

What a waste marshall has been. I doubt he'll be back next year

CUBAN, REEBOK DOES SUPPLY THE NFL UNTIL 2012 THEN NIKE WILL TAKE OVER FOR 5 YEARS UNTIL 2017

Tom Landry always wore a suit, tie, and hat.

MIKE NOLAN ASKED REEBOK TO DESIGN A SUIT FOR HIM WHEN HE WAS THE 49'S COACH AND WORE IT AND IT THE BEST LOOKING SUIT,IN FACT IT BECAME A HIT ....THE NOLAN SUIT .HE DOES LOOK GOOD IN SUIT NOT LIKE REX RAYN .

I think that they should kick field goals from the 50 yard line. Don't even waste energy trying to reach the red zone. Then I won't get upset when they go 3 and out at the 10.

And play Long at NT.

Aloco, Youd have to get a Circus tent to make a suit for Fat rex....

lol@cuban..
