Sparano: Henne didn't grade out poorly

Tony Sparano will meet with his players at approximately 1 p.m. today and go over what happened during Sunday's 34-27 loss to Detroit. He will tell them what everyone knows: The Dolphins did not finish well and the result was turning a 10-point lead with five minutes to play into a seven-point loss.

But one thing Sparano will tell his team most of us -- certainly me -- overlooked: Chad Henne didn't play terribly.

During his 14-minute Monday press conference, the Dolphins coach said quarterback Chad Henne did not grade out poorly.

Let that marinate for a second.

Henne completed 29 of 44 passes for 278 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs for a 72 quarterback rating in a 34-27 loss to the Detroit Lions. He had a QB rating over 100 through three quarters. His fourth-quarter rating was like the Boston weather the Dolphins are about to experience Sunday when they play New England -- in the 20s.

But in grading the film, Miami's coaching staff came to the conclusion Henne wasn't as bad as everyone believed because the player got "only" six minuses. And that is his all-time best as the Dolphins starter.

"In two years it's his lowest," Sparano said. "Two years. I thought at the time the guy was throwing the ball into the wind really well. You guys were out there watching it. I don't know that you know the conditions and what it was like out there but they were pretty stiff during the course of that game. I thought he threw the ball pretty well at times and he completed whatever it was, 66 percent on the day. He had one or two of them that got away from him -- the deep ball to Brandon [Marshall] on the right sideline going into the end zone that he maybe overthrew a shade and a couple of locations. But other than that, it really came down to the last five minutes we didn't finish the game."

That is all true. All of it. Dead on accurate in every detail and fact.

But I think the truth is more important than the facts. So I want to know the truth. And I wanted to know if Sparano believed his quarterback, who was being serenaded with "Henne sucks" chants from the home crowd, played well against Detroit.

"We didn't finish the game in the last five minutes and he threw a couple of interceptions but other than that, one of the interceptions is not his, Armando," Sparano answered, no doubt wishing death upon me. "So yeah, I kind of think on the game, as a whole, when you grade the film, he didn't play poorly. Absolutely didn't play poorly."

Now, you may read theories elsewhere that Sparano was simply spinning the truth so as to not throw Henne under the bus. Not true. When the quarterback stinks rotten, Sparano doesn't defend him anymore. Shouldn't, actually. This is big-boy football and it's time for Henne to grow up.

On this occasion, the coach simply was trying to correct the perception of a terrible game by Henne because that's what the player's grade actually shows. And that's what he would then tell the team. And if he tells the media one thing and the team another, it ruins his credibility with his players.

So Sparano said that which is hard for some people to be convinced about: Henne wasn't awful Sunday.

Look, you don't have to like it. I don't. You know I no longer believe Henne is Miami's future at QB. And I also wouldn't give Henne a pass on that second INT that was returned for a TD because on the play, he had the choice of throwing to five different receivers and he picked the only one that was bracketed while not serving up an opportunity to the three facing man-coverage or Brandon Marshall against a zone.

Yet, the grade is the grade. And the grade did include some negative plays.

"That [first] interception was a combination of a few things," Sparano explained. "One, the decision wasn't great on the interception. Let me say this: First of all, Chad Henne probably, not probably, he only had six minuses out of the entire football game. One of them was on that play particularly and it was a combination of two or three things that happened. The tight end didn't sit down and he kind of drifted on him and they end up getting the ball in the short end of the field. We stop them, but we gave up field goal.

"We have a receiver open. He's open at the sticks and falls down. Slips. The ball ends up in [the defender's] hands. We're going to the right place with the football. He's throwing in the right area. The receiver falls down and they pick it off and we miss three tackles on the play."

I guess I got a football lesson today. A player can stink for five minutes and still not have his entire body of work in a game get slimed. So Henne maybe didn't play well when one considers the entire body of work. But he wasn't terrible, either, according to Miami coaching grades.

CAN YOU GET HIGH ON BLEACH AND AMMONIA?IAM GETTING DISPERATE.

my prediction is that with the labor issue the way it is sparano and ireland get one more year. Making a change without CBA will be tough.

ALoco..Good points about Orton. I don't think he his the savior. Just a stop gap, and competition for Henne. There will be a new regime there, and Orton is already displeased that Tebow had been named starter. Who knows what a new staff will have in mind. My point at large was that I think it would be smart to find a quarterback with some experience in our new coordinators offense(assuming we will have one) This was just a pair of that I thought of because of the Nolan connection. If Nolan were to get the nod(again not saying he will) the chances that he would bring someone he trusts to run the offense are pretty good. McCoy could be that guy....

aloco, with that combination I Guarantee you'll see god... You go boy..

no one wants change just for the sake of change like teams like the redskins but how many times do we have watch sparano get outcoached every single time we play a good team thats never going to change hes just not a good head coach

If Chad Henne graded out well on Sunday. Armando graduated English class with honors.

LOL@SoiledBottom

and someone by my troll a drink

Sparano can`t admit he laid a big egg or choked at 7 Home games out of 8

Now Get Your Shine Box!

Did Bill Cowher sign yet?

Joe Shmoe,

I don't know how you can say these guys 'couldn't do it for THREE years'. Didn't they come in and take a 1-15 to an 11-5 record and the biggest single turnaround from one season to the next? That no small feat!! I don't want to hear our schedule was easy....that's bunk!! We still had to play the Pats and Jets twice and we still beat NFL teams to win our division. They've overcome bigger odds than they'll be faced going into next year. The roster is MUCH better than the team they took over. No question! We have a good core of young players that we never had before, one of the top ranked defences in the league, an excellent DC and a franchise left tackle. It's a start. We need to find a new fresher OC and find some playmakers for the offence. I have faith that Ireland and Sparano can get this done.

Tony Sparano will never ever get another HC position in the NFL. Keeping him on is like watering a dead flower. He isn't good enough for the other 31 teams, why should we stick with him.

Nice guys finish last.
Stupid guys never even finish.

Dear Mr. Salguero

When the Dolphins contract with Dan Henning Telecommunications/Offensive Coordinator has ended, will the points we didn't score this season roll over for use next season ?

Also the next Offensive coordinator/Telecommunication the Dolphins sign up with better have an unlimited points plan.

Here is the problem none of you are failing to understand. When you get to Club Liv, you only have a certain amount of time to get to the bar, get your drinks, get the girl and dance. There is no time to actually find out how much your bill is going to be until you are done. Mr. Ross thank you so much for Club Liv!!!!

sinfin, actually the cowboys might hire him if ross fires him.

Boulder, It would serve the reptillian leader of the Cowboys right to hire him, My only question would be where would he get his scrubs from?

Fire the D.J.

KEEP THE HEAD COACH!
.
.

To all NFL Teams: If Sparano goes, grab him. He's a good Coach.

Sinfin,

That's a pretty bold statement to say that Sparano will NEVER coach in the NFL. I guess you can say whatever you want on a blog and no one will ever hold you accountable. Tony Sparano has forgotten more about football than you will ever know, smart ass! I'll remind you that he was runner up to Mike Smith of Atlanta, another position coach previously I might add and a guy who is taking his team to the playoffs again and their THIRD winning season under him in three years, the year the Dolphins finished 11-5.

Hey all,

I would do what I could to inject some exciting players particularly on OFF.

The Fins could be MUCH, MUCH more explosive if they just added these two players. These are some speedy, shifty bastages for sure...

They could use some "divine" intervention in West Virginia RB Noel Devine. RB Noel Devine has very RB Jahvid Best like qualities. He has soft hands, is very sudden and can accelerate past defenders. Here is one of his Youtube highlight vids...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp9MuxAszEM&NR=1

A poor mans DeSean Jackson clone WR Jerrel Jernigan from Troy. Small school and small frame means he should slip down the draft. He is only 5' 9" 190lbs but has the crazy moves and speed galore to break plays wide open. The quality is bad on this vid but you can get the idea of his ability. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63lbmKiBWl0

It is hard to say what round(s) these two will get drafted but I have not seen either on any 1st round mock lists. I would imagine with the success of smaller, shifty, speedy players in the NFL of late they should get pushed up the draft boards with their college bodies of work, good combines with fast 40's and solid private workouts.

I think in order to become more menacing of an offense they need athletes that scare defenses. These two mighty mights would qualify as dangerous open-field runners capable of making defenders miss.

Maybe add a later round TE like Schuylar Oordt at 6'7" 250lbs running a 4.58 40 and averaging 18.2 yards per catch for Northern Iowa.

This would substancially upgrade our explosive plays. If they can round up QB Cam Newton or QB Mallet they would literally transform our OFF in one draft.

I like Texas A&M OLB Von Miller if they go DEF in the 1st round. You can never have enough relentless pass rush types and he could help cave the pocket in opposite Cam Wake. Here is a clip of the Butkus Award Winner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnZSceCN5Yg&feature=related

There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Even if the keep Henne as the starter (hopefully withnew competiton at QB as well) Henne can do his "Robo Check Down" on players that can shake a few defenders and take it to the house!

Cheers,

Craig, I agree Henne could start right now for any of the 7 teams you mentioned in a prior post. So we've got the 25th best QB in the league. Not good enough.

Craigm, just as you don't wanna hear about how the schedule was easy, I don't wanna hear about 3 years ago. What have they done the last 2 years? Exactly, they have REGRESSED. They are going backwards.

For the record, the fact is the schedule was a cake walk. Tom Brady was also out all year. Pennington fell in their laps. You can ignore the obvious aligning of the stars if you have to, to convince yourself. Beating the Jets & Pats that year? Big deal, neither made the playoffs. What happened when we got to the playoffs? We got a serious beatdown. I wonder why? Somethings are anomalies & never seen again.

Why they should be fired? Where to begin, let's see:

1. They are running an offense that dates back to 1958 & insist it's still relevant.

2. In 3 years, they have YET to field a good special teams unit

3. In 3 years, we have had to struggle for almost every win. Nothing comes easy because we are more conservative than Dubya.

4. They broke up a very good o-line last year to fill it with whom exactly? A Rookie, a poor pulling guard & a back up center?

5. They are below average in the talent dept. To follow up on #4 they have botched the o-line so bad, they had to resort for trading for & signing scrubs they drafted in Dallas. THREE OF THEM! How about guys like Fasano, Polite, Adoyle, Carpenter too? We can't find our own guys so we go get theirs!

6. Sparano is outcoached & out witted by the better coaches in this league. Has shown no ability to make changes where the team would play outside his conservative philosophy.

7. Admitted by Henning, the only thing he's said this year that made sense, this team has failed to bring in playmakers to create big plays. Yet, in order to defend their reluctance or inability to find those players continue to insist they have them.

I'll stop there.

Craig, I said he will never get another HC position, I'm sure he'll go coach the oline somewhere. If you think Sparano's intellect is above the average rodent than you are blinded by faith. Don't now how anyone can't see how he is the dimmest wit among NFL coaches the worst game day coach we've ever had. He is clueless. If actions speak louder than words, then his actions are even dumber than his speaking skills.

Bald Face lie. PERIOD!!

Not one to call folks liars, especially fairly solid citizens ... but this one is a WHOPPER!!

Sparano has also said these things before ... & the subject gets the guillotine afterwards.

Bah!! Humbug!! Its "Weekend at Bernies" ... Henne's a zombie1! lol

sinfin, the way you speak and write tells me you at most have a high school diploma . how about wade philps speaks or BILL BELICHICK SPEAKS ?????

BILL SPEAKS LIKE AN ACCOUNTANT .

Fans shouldn't get fooled by that 11-5 season 3 years ago. The Dolphins got a lot of 17-14 type wins against crappy teams. Pennington was also playing extremely well, which confirms what I always say that in order to win in football, you need a QB that makes plays. We have to look where we're at NOW, not 3 years ago. Is the roster in better shape now compared to 3 years ago? I sure as hell hope so, we were 1-15. But the jury is still out on a lot of these players. Think about this regime's high draft picks: Long is a Pro Bowler. But other than that, the jury is still out on Merling, Henne, Sean Smith, Hartline, etc etc. Odrick we'll only find out next year. Koa Misi has shown some nice things. Jerry hasn't shown much. A lot more question marks than anything else. Parcells is way OVERRATED.

aloco your comment makes no sense really. Sparano rambles and meanders endlessly without ever saying much. Every other sentence contains 'and I really mean that I really do'. Bellichek and Wade are intentionally dull, but to the point.

If you can't see that then its you with only a HS Diploma. Your own writing is grammatically screwed 'how about wade philips speaks...'? 8 year olds speak and write better than that.

the steelers have more wins at sun life stadium in 2010 then the dolphins have.lol.. ok henne and spazano. how 'bout grading that you f'n bums.lol

Read the Darlington article in Herald.

Looks to me like the enire crew of misfits, w/ the exception of Henning, will remain in charge next yr.

Bummer.

Montreal #1,

Not to mention that year Pennington tied Peyton Manning for an NFL league record for fewest picks that year. Talk about stars aligning...

Joe, you said the FO has done NOTHING in THREE years. Let's stick to the facts, instead of stuff you want to make up to make your point. They took over a 1-15 team and had the biggest single-season turnaround in NFL history. You can make up whatever crap you want about them but you can't take that away from them. How did Pennington fall into their laps? If you want to criticize them for bad decisions, at least give them credit when they've made good decisions. You can't have it both ways.

Sinfin, I KNOW you said Sparano will NEVER have a HC job in the NFL again. And I'm saying, I guess you can say whatever you want on these blogs because no one will ever remember what you said, or ever hold you accountable for your comments. It's pretty obvious the league and Bill Parcells agree wtih you that he's a dumb coach, because he only led the 2008 team to the biggest turnaround in NFL history and the league saw fit to have him finish a very close second to Mike Smith in the NFL coach of the year voting. I guess they must all be dumb too!

SINFIN, I AGREE W/YOUR LAST POST ONLY WITH PART RE ME AND MY ENGLISH,STILL SPARANO SITS THERE FOR THE MEDIA AND HIS OC AND DC FOR HOURS. DID YOU EVER SEEN BELLICHICK OR CARROL MEDIA METTINGS ,IT'S ABOUT 20 MINUTES AT MOST BUT HERE SPARANO TELLS STORY FOR HOURS .

sinfin, I have to agree, I've made similar comments myself. Just seems so obvious to me. In three years the only great moves they've made:

1. Long
2. Vontae
3. Nolan

Everything else has been entirely expendable, if not totally mismanaged.

1. They don't take Santonio Holmes for a #6 pick but pay 50 mil and 2 seconds for Brandon Butterfingers?

2. They bank the future of the oline on two players with known history of frequent injuries (grove, smiley)

3. They go into a season with out a bonafide 2nd string QB - how in the hell couldn't they not have known Penningtion couldn't even last two plays?

4. Wasted two years with Pascosalami
5. Wasted three years with Henning
6. I realize you can't hit on every pick, but they have blown too many high round picks.

Where are the positives that can even counter even have of the above points?

0X80, Cameron Wake should of been up there with the great moves. Karlos Dansby as well. I agree with everything else you said.

GRAIG M , VERY GOOD POST@1;00 PM.SPARANO WILL REMAIN A HC FOR NEXT YEAR W/ IRELAND .BOTHE CONTRACTS ARE UP AFTER 2011 .

WE HIRE NEW ;;;;

OC COACH
ST COACH
QB COACH AND WE DRAFT A QB.

AND NONE OF THEM SHOULD BE NAMED RIZZI OR PASQULINI OR PONAMIGO.

aloco - do you want quality or quantity? I'd rather have a coach speak directly for 3 minutes than listen to some rambling bumblefurk meandering to nowhere.

Craig - fine, you have your take, I have mine. I give the bulk of that 2008 credit to Mr. Chad Pennington, runner up MVP and most accurate passer in history. If you think about it, he should have beaten Peyton for the MVP. Peyton led a perennial playoff team to the playoffs. Pennington led a 1-15 team to the playoffs after being on the team just a few weeks before the season started. Peyton was in the same system and with same OC for a decade, Pennington had just a few weeks. Its painfully obvious Sparano had nothing to do with that. And the only other thing that bought any temporary excitement was the wild cat that Lee introduced. I really can't find where your devotion to Sparano comes from, I just don't see it.

The arguement that Henne can or "may" get better is valid and I am not writing the guy off because of that.

What I think Henne will NEVER have that some of the greatest have "IT" wise is improve skills.

Remember Brett Farve's numerous underhanded throws (especially the killer one in the snow falling down for a perfect strike)?

Did you see the backwards flips that Drew Brees hit his RB and took a big negative sack back to the line of scrimmage?

Phillip Rivers has had a few shotputs that netted yards as well.

My point is that as mechanical or robotic as Henne moves I doubt he will ever have that kind of athletic fluidity to make some of those things happen especially under duress. For the record, the good playoff teams put your QB under duress.

It may be a product of only his second year but I am betting against that notion. He taes his eyes down and starts to run most times when he feels the pass rush. The good ones run when they absolutely exhausted their options or they know they are going to get positive yards and gash the DEF.

Like I said, maybe it can be learned but, my money is on probably not.

My belief is that extra, better competition at QB should bring out the best in Henne... even if he gets beat out and is a #2 guy for a while.

Bring in a vet and draft another groomer and we will have a healthy growth process going on to be settled in camp.

Cheers,

For all the Marshall bashers, I hope some of you realize that despite playing for the worst offense in the NFL, he'll probably finish the year with over 1000 yards receiving. And he didn't play all 16 games either. Marshall is NOT the problem guys. Give him a QB and you'll see what he'll do. Oh yeah, and maybe get other weapons on offense so other teams can stop triple teaming him. That wouldn't be a bad idea either.

I am Italian and I would watch the Godfather, Goodfellas, Casino, or the sopranos with Tony Sparano any day. BUT HE IS NOT A GOOD NFL COACH. HE DOES NOT MAKE ADJUSTMENTS DURING GAMES, HE IS NOT GIVING THE PLAYERS THE RIGHT PRACTICE DRILLS, HE HAS TAKEN THE AGRESSION OUT OF THE WHOLE TEAM.

SPARANO HAS NEVER COACHED AN NFL TEAM BEFORE THE DOLPHINS.

SPARANO, IRELAND, AND HENNING ARE COSTING ROSS and the FANS MILLIONS AND MILLIONS, AND MILLIONS, AND MILLIONS, AND MILLIONS, AND MILLIONS, OF DOLLARS!!!

100 MILLION DOLLARS? NO PROBLEM, MR. ROSS WILL THROW IT AWAY BY KEEPING THE COACHING STAFF IN PLACE.

THE REALITY IS THAT EVERY DOLPHIN FAN IS LOOKING TO ROSS TO MAKE A CHANGE AND DO IT NOW, WITH RESPECT, AND NO HARD FEELINGS. THEN HOPE WILL RETURN, FANS WILL START BUYING MORE MERCHANDISE, GOING TO THE GAMES, AND SUPPORTING THE NEW STAFF.

NOBODY KNOWS THE ANSWERS BECAUSE EVERY OWNER IN FOOTBALL HAS BEEN DIALING THAT 1-800-SUPERBOWL COACH PHONE NUMBER AND THE LINES ARE BUSY...

IT'S NICE TO READ OBJECTIVE VIEWS COMING FROM SINFIN,ROB IN OC ,GRAIG M ,D IN MONTREAL NOT LIKE THE GANG OF DEFEAT SUCH D.BREED AND HIS BOY 2WATT .

Craig, please please tell me, if Sparano is so good, how do we go backwards for two seasons? How do we lose to 3 of the worst teams in the league Cleveland, Buffalo and Detroit at home? Two of those games we didn't even compete. How do we go 1-7 at home? Tell me just what in there leads you to believe Sparano is a good coach? I am really perplexed.

clean house!!!

Henne stinks. You will never win anything with that kind of terrible QB play. Until the Dolphins find a real QB capable of leading scoring drives they'll continue to be boring, frustrating and mediocre. Henne's in his 3rd season and he's shown no signs of improvement at all. He's 75% of the problem. He has to go.

aloco. you, bobby and craig are what is called homers..lol. rah rah rah.go team go. stick your foam #1 fingers up your ???@#$$..lol

Henne has to stick around. I'm not a fan of his and certainly not a believer. But having said that, we did use a 2nd round pick on him. Give him a chance to compete. Bring in a vet who could start and use a high draft pick on a QB as well. With a different OC and probably different players (o-line, TE's, WR's, better running game) we'll see where Henne is. I don't see him having success as a starter but who knows, I wouldn't mind being wrong. I just want the Dolphins to win. Being right or wrong doesn't matter to me. Just win baby.

are we the only nfl team without a 2 minute offense? why dont we ever have game winning 4th quarter drives for TD's and wins? why dont we snap the ball when the other team jumps offsides? why dont we go for broke(pass play)on a 3rd and inches? why don't we make halftime adjustments? why do we cheer meaningless FG's?why don't we draft playmakers like a dez bryant? IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE! even parcells knew it was time to go.

Chan chowder! Your right it's the fans fault! I want to cheer for you! So pay my ticket 100 bucks for beer and I'll cheer your 3 tackles a game! Yea! Now that's a plan . I'm sure more fans will jump on. Put our money that your below average play is " cough' erning where your your mouth is! Douchebag!

aloco and the other henne homers including spazano. look at this stat.

According to DeLoureiro, in the past two decades 22 QBs have been taken in the second round. Of those, he counts only Kordell Stewart and Jake Plummer as those who became starters for their drafting club for any length of time.

Sinfin,

What does all of the blame fall on Sparano when things are going badly but he gets NONE of the credit for the 11-5 season? Seems like a bit of a double standard, no? You're welcome to your opinion but understand it's just an OPINION, as mine is.

To be honest, I am REALLY tired of people running my team down. So they've had a poor season, big deal! Deal with it! The EASIEST thing to do when a team is going bad is pile on with the masses but the TRUE fan stand by his team through thick and thin. The fact that the team has under-performed this season is not entirely on Sparano. He doesn't cause the receivers to drop passes or cause our corner backs to miss all game-changing INTs this year. He doesn't cause the OL to breakdown or to be unable to open holes for the running game. He doesn't cause Henne to miss open receivers or to throw to the other team. The REAL problem with this team is with the offence. We all know that! The OC is not making it happen, so it's time to go. We spent ALL our draft picks last year on the defence because it was SO bad, with the exception of the Jerry pick and the Marshall trade. Have we improved the defence? I think we would all agree that yes it is better. Does Sparano get ANY credit for that? Of course not, that all goes to Nolan and the new guys they brought in. But if you're going to BLAME Sparano for Henne and the offence, shouldn't you also be PRAISING him for fixing the defence. Wasn't he invloved in bringing in Nolan and the new players? Seems only fair if you want to blame, you should praise also.

In my opinion, Tony S and Ireland should get at least one more season to do to the offence what they were able to do to the defence last year. Intelligence and all this crap about not being a game-day manager has nothing to do with it. They don't have the horses to get it done on offence and Henning has even admitted that. Unfortunately, you only have so many draft picks to get it right every year and last year because our defence was so bad, we had to use them on the defence. I think you guys forget JUST how bad our defence actually was last year!

"Joe, you said the FO has done NOTHING in THREE years. Let's stick to the facts, instead of stuff you want to make up to make your point."

Now your blatantly lying. Pretty sad. How about YOU go back & paste where I said they have done nothing in 3 years? Back it up, don't just spew crap. HINT: You won't find it cause it wasn't said. Please keep since you now lost all credibility.

And again, I just listed 7 things they have failed to do in 3 years. You ignored them. They are factual & current. You're talking about 2008, who's up to date?

Pennington DIDN't fall in their laps in your mind? Did they trade for him? He was released RIGHT before the season, by another team. Penny would have signed ANYWHERE! They barely lifted a finger to get him. They did no work except print the paperwork for his contract. Give us a break. Your basing the need to keep Morono because of 1 miracle, 1 in a lifetime season. Hardly convincing.

Where are they now? If you're gonna talk about 1 past season, lets talk about all 3 of them, not just the 1 you think makes your weak point.

Live in the now like the rest of us. We don't all have Delorians to go back in history. The fact is this: The 2009 team was worse than the 2008 team. The 2010 team is worse than the 2009 team. We are going BACKWARDS.

Maybe to you that is grounds to keep these morons in charge. For the rest of the current & up to date individuals it's grounds for firing.

Craig M, I agree with a lot of things you say. But you have to understand why fans are getting impatient. This team hasn't won a playoff game since Dave Wannstedt and Lamar Smith back in 2001. That's pretty bad. People are booing. What else can you expect? Fans pay big bucks for tickets and this is what they get. You think it's bad in Miami? Try New York or Philadelphia when things go bad. You should see how things go here in Montreal when the Canadiens are playing bad. Trust me, Miami is not that bad. These players should put up with a few boos. Justified boos in my humble opinion.

carson palmer wants out of cincy. hear that ross.?.. go get him.. and look at the day he had with out the 2 divas.lol.. aloco. go pick up palmer at the airport will ya.. ask him what he likes to eat.

AWTT, NO I AM NOT GOING TO PICK PALMER AT 11.8 MILLION A YEAR UNTIL 2014 W/RECORD 4-11..

THE AGONY OF THE GANG OF DEFEAT .

Joe, what you said is 'What have we seen from these guys in three years? The same thing'. I hardly think taking a team from a 1-15 season to an 11-5 season constitutes 'the same thing'. Do they get ANY credit for that or do you just want to gloss over that? It IS the biggest turnaround in a single season. Oh yeah, I forgot.....it's because Pennington 'fell into their laps'. Do you want to criticize the bad moods but you don't want to give praise to the good moves. Nice!

And how is this team WORSE than last year? Please explain!.....because they're 1-7 at home? Aren't they also 6-1 on the road? Maybe if they had some REAL fans supporting them through thick and thin at home they wouldn't be 1-7. Maybe if guys didn't boo Henne every time he comes on the field or ask for the firing of Henning, Sparano and Ireland all the time, then maybe they might perform better at home. Maybe if the fans ACTUALLY showed up to a game and cared, maybe the team might perform better. See Joe, I think your like a lot of other Miami fans....you become a sourpuss when your team is losing and the easiest thing is to whine and complain and call for the firing of everybody every time things go bad. It's a constant cycle with this team. We keep just the regimes but we NEVER get better! At some point don't we have to stand behind the guys we brought in and support and encourage, like they did in Chicago with Lovie Smith, like they did in New York with Tom Coughlin. You guys want to keep playing revolving door with the coach staff every couple of years. It's not working! They fixed the defence from last year, let them fix the offence this year and the team will start winning again.

craig, I can agree with about 80% of what you said. However it just seems to be you are avoiding reality in certain areas. Getting Nolan, don't know if that was Parcells or Ireland, probably not Sparano but maybe. Sparano couldn't see he had a pathetic DC last season or before, couldn't see he had a pathetic ST coach until the most embarrassing ST breakdown in history. You must remember, Sparano is responsible for all the coordintators, who stays, who goes, and yes how they perform. If he doesn't like Henning calling a run on 3 and goal from the 14, it is on him to correct it. Any criticism against the OC goes equally against the HC since that area is his responsibility. Yes the D has improved, I give Nolan quite a lot of credit. The question is, just what they hell do we need Sparano for? He can't manage a game, can't fire his buddy oldtimer OC, can't develop a two minute offense, seems to play for the field goal which I didn't buy previously but now it seems obvious. He is gutless and yes, stupid. Geez the guy is a dim wit. A new OC is for sure, but we need a coach that can manage both the OC and DC and not just be a slave to their wishes. Also, nope, as I stated, I don't give Sparano credit for 2008. I give it to Pennington for reasons stated in my previous post (the easy schedule, bradyless NE also helped), Sparano just lucked out. I just don't see him as a coach that will ever match wits with the elite coaches in this league. Time will tell. Yes we are both just bloggers spoutin steam and nothing more.

WHY WOULD CIN WANTS TO LOWER PALMER SALARY ? REASONS ;;;;;

1- 11.8 MILLION A YEAR UNTIL 2014
2-THEY WILL PICK A QB IN DRAFT DAT AT NO 3

REPORT SAID, THE CIN OFFERED PALMER TO LOWER HIS SALARY TO 6 MILLION A YEAR TO KEEP HIM

Chad Henne will go down this year as having the least appreciated and one of the most productive seasons that a Dolphins quarterback has ever had since the days of Marino...3200 yds and missing a game and a half, 60% plus completion percentage. Two factors- one that helps and one that doesnt....first he doesnt have anybody to stretch the field, and really doesnt have the OL to allow the time for the deep in and slant patterns I just saw Drew Brees and Matt Ryan throw last night. This isnt Chad's fault. secondly and more importantly is his Won Loss rating. One of the comments above made the key point- a franchise quarterback WINS the game, and not just "doesnt lose it"....I am mixed in my emotions....he could develop the instincts he is missing like Eli Manning did after a few years of getting his butt kicked, or he could be merely a Rex Grossman that can throw the ball. All in all I think the Dolphins need to keep him and bring in some competition to spice things up. All in all I hated going to home games this year, because as excited as I got before the games, that made me more depressed when they found a way to lose. But like good Dolfans, we need to hang with the program. I dont particularly think that Sparano should be fired, I think he needs to do to the offense what he did last year with Mike Nolan and the defense....bring in a whiz who can reenergize the side and make everyone an asset. That and a few more pieces. Anyway we beat the Jets once!!!! we have now won 4 out of the last 5 against them and that makes me feel better....

Aloco...do you watch football...or do you just start watching this year....you sound like some of these dopes who judge Palmer on this year only...you judge a VET on his body of work (years)...you judge a rookie on what he did last year...c'mon man.....you know better!

Contracts are made to be broken

Sinfin,

Don't forget the running attack we had in 2008. It wasn't all Pennington. We've seen NONE of that this year. You want to make life easier for your quarterback, be it Henne or anyone else, get some guys who can move the chains on a consistent basis. We haven't had that this season. When we were up by ten late in the game Sunday, we should have been up to chew up the clock with the running game but couldn't AGAIN. Whether that's on the line or the backs or both I don't know but it has to change for next season.

Does it bother anybody else that Henne has been sacked 27 times this season? Doesn't that seem an awful lot? And that's over 14 games. And all this in a short passing game. If we want this guy to have success and be able to open up the passing game more, don't we need to find a way to give him better protection and more time to throw? Eli Manning on the otherhand has been sacked 16 times.
