It has been a week of breathless anticipation by fans and participants alike, as folks have been waiting to see what goes down with the Dolphins head coach job. And in the midst of offers to Bill Cowher and talks with Jon Gruden and talks with Jim Harbaugh and more talks with Harbaugh, we have overlooked the other news.
Dan Henning has left the Dolphins.
Henning, the offensive coordinator in Miami the last three seasons, agreed with coach Tony Sparano that it would be best to part ways, a source close to Henning said Thursday night.
It is not clear if this is a retirement or simply a parting. Henning, you see, is said to want to take some time to reflect on his current situation, but may remain open to future work if the right opportunity comes along.
Henning has served 31 years in the NFL and five of those with the Dolphins, the last three under Sparano. He was previously the offensive coordinator in Carolina, the New York Jets, Buffalo, and Detroit. He was the head coach in San Diego (1989-91) and Atlanta (1983-86).
Obviously the Dolphins now need to hire an offensive coordinator. But at this hour (check the time stamp on this post) the team has not fired Sparano nor made a contract offer to Harbaugh.

by saying Henning would consider "the right situation" does that mean there might be a team out there looking to put fewer points on the board next season or to create the illusion of going in reverse? Maybe at his next stop that team can set records for the most combined punts, safeties and interceptions in a single season.
he had his day but at this point, on behalf of behalf of Dolphin fans everywhere I say, good riddance you pompous ass.

Wouldn't "East" Palo Alto be underwater in San Francisco Bay?
Been to Cupertino, however. BO-ring. Might be the only city in that entire area to not even have one decent bar for us guys who dig other guys!
(it's 2011, not going to be a closeted football fan anymore, sorry !)

standly23, I work in Miami, live in Broward County now. I will tell you straight up, the majority of the people I work with that have kids, live outside of Miami. Miami, great if your young and single, not so much if you have a family.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 06, 2011 at 07:51 PM
I don't know where this guy is coming up with all this nutty crap.
There isn't any press conference scheduled by the Dolphins tomorrow.
Posted by: KJ | January 06, 2011 at 07:52 PM
CLUES;;
1-THE DOLPHINS ARE INVITING THE MEDIA TOMORROW
2- WHY THIS NEWS ITEM COMES FROM FLORIO ABOUT INTERVIES=WING A MINORITY PERSON NOW ?
3-HARBAUGH GOING TO STANFORD IN WELL WISHES TOUR .
4-ROSS IS MUM ,NOT SAYING A WORD FOR 2 DAYS .
Posted by: ALoco | January 06, 2011 at 07:53 PM
ALoco, Dolphins haven't invited the media tomorrow. Wherever ur hearing this it's wrong
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 06, 2011 at 07:53 PM
Well bobbyd,
If it came down to location or neighborhoods for harbaugh, he would be at Michigan right now, or seriously consider what Denver has to say.
Posted by: standley23 | January 06, 2011 at 07:53 PM
The Dolphins in my opinion, have dropped down to the level of the Chargers with regard to class, by having the gall to go looking for a new coach while still having one - please, if Ross thinks TS needs to be replaced, than fire him; to leave him hanging in the wind while EVERYONE knows he's begging Harbaugh to be his coach is needlessly cruel and heavy handed - I happen to think well of Sparano, but it's a business, and he will land on his feet, however Ross has shown himself to be as big a nitwit as the Yorks, Woody Johnson and Spanos - he's more interested in selling off chunks of his team to celebs and getting his picture in the herald than in building a winning team - prediction, Harbaugh will end up with the 49ers or stay at Stanford, he will NOT be in Miami next year, and Ross will be left with no choice but to can Sparano and than promote Nolan to HC, and as anyone who's been paying attention knows Nolan flamed out spectacularly during his last stint in SF, drafting Alex Smith (HA!) to be his franchise QB.. it's going to be a looonnng couple of seasons...
Posted by: p.s.s | January 06, 2011 at 07:54 PM
I JUST READ THAT ITEM AGAIN,
THE MEDIA SHOULD BE AT LEAST READY TO COME AT MOMENT NOTICE TOMORROW AFTERNOON.
WHY I SHOULDN'T BELIEVE IT?
Posted by: ALoco | January 06, 2011 at 07:56 PM
It sounds f'd up, but what if ross's talk with Tony was, "hey, were looking to replace you, want Henning's job." this whole thing excites and weirds me out at the same time.
Posted by: nfane | January 06, 2011 at 07:56 PM
The Luck announcement is not good for Miami. He, Harbaugh, stays there one more year & we are stuck with Sprano for one more year. Harbraugh will still get great offers and top money next year. Half empty I know.

East Palo Alto's crime rate has dropped in the past 25 years, and it still has one of the Highest crime and murder rates in the country.
Posted by: standley23 | January 06, 2011 at 07:56 PM
Sooooo, Henning had NO QB to run his offense, in addition the Dolphins had no speed at WR,RB,TE and the offensive line could not block..
and you brain surgeons blame him ?...what a bunch
of mindless baboons you people are.
Posted by: FZB | January 06, 2011 at 07:57 PM
ALoco, one reason you don't believe it is NO ONE in Miami is reporting what ur saying. Reason two, Florio isn't reliable.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 06, 2011 at 07:59 PM
I AM RECEVING MESSAGES THE PRESS CONFRENCE WILL BE AT 200 TOMOROW IN DAVIE. THE ASS COACH BOWELS HAVE BEEN INTERVIEW ALL READY AND GODELL THE COMMISONER HAS AGREE IT IS NOW OK

NFL Network reporting Stanford has offered a package that at max value would be around 5 mil a year. With Luck staying, I bet he does too. He can go to the NFL anytime he wants. Especially since the money is close.

This B/S that Harbaugh will never get a better office is total conjecture. What if Harbaugh and Luck win a National Championship next year? He would be hotter then ever. I don't buy this now, now now bull

aloco has connections with the secret service, he receives info before even jay glazer, but he can never put a link to his sources.
Posted by: tamale | January 06, 2011 at 08:11 PM
CarltheChamp says,
Please people, lets not get into each other too much, this isnt our fault, it isnt Aloco's fault he doesnt read the entire article, remember 2008??? We all loved each other after the season, times were good, just hold onto that moment for now, its all we got
As far as Sporano/Harbaught/Nolan/Cowher, nothing has been done, nothing has been decided, nobody but Sporano and Harbaugh have had conversations with Ross about coaching next year, just let this stuff play itself out, I think if Harbaugh decides to stay at Standford, Ross will ease up on his demands of Cowher, and we may just end up with him yet.
Bear in mind however, no Coach has ever gone from winning a SB with one team, and then head coached another to a SB victory, its never happened, Cowher might be the guy, but prob not, just let this thing play itself out please
Cheers

Yep...and that plane will NOT have Jim Harbaugh aboard.
I'm beginning to think he's going to say no and stay out there, either with the Niners or back at Stanford.
Posted by: jim | January 06, 2011 at 08:19 PM
EVERY ONE CAN GO TO ...(( THE PHINSIDER )) SITE ,IT HAS THE MEDIA ITEM THAT SAYS MEDIA IS INVITED TOMORROW IN MOMENT NOTICE .
Posted by: ALoco | January 06, 2011 at 08:20 PM
To those of you who CARE if a Multi-Millionaire s feelings are hurt.....I say.....
Its about winning.....if your not winning you had better be doing something to start winning....
LIKE FIRE YOUR OC BEFORE YOU FINISH IN THE BOTTOM 3 IN POINTS SCORED....
LIKE FIRE YOUR DC BEFORE YOU FINISH 1ST IN BIG PLAYS ALLOWED
LIKE LEARN THAT A TD IS WORTH MORE THAN 2 FIST PUMPS
LIKE CHOKE SOMEBODY OUT WHEN THEY KNEEL DOWN WHEN YOU HAVE THE BALL ON THE FIFTY AND THERE IS TIME FOR 1 MORE PLAY
LIKE KNOW THERE ARE SO MANY WEEKS THAT YOU GET "to turn this around"....
Ladies and gentlemen.....MR. ROSS has proven that he is gonna do what it takes to win.....hop on board...there's plenty of room......The next Jerry Jones has been reincarnated in Miami.....
Posted by: Kris | January 06, 2011 at 08:21 PM
Aloco, why do that when you can simply go to the Sun-Sentinel and see twitter feeds from ACTUAL REPORTERS saying there is NO press conference scheduled tomorrow.
Ross is returning in a few hours without Jim Harbaugh making the ride back with him. What would the press conference be for? To announce the plane landed safely?
Posted by: jim | January 06, 2011 at 08:22 PM
jim, if armando is around can he tell us that he got a word to be out tomorrow at dolphin facility ?
Posted by: ALoco | January 06, 2011 at 08:25 PM
Kris. He could have done all that and had some class.we are turning into the laughing stock of the league just like the raiders
Posted by: ashevillephinfan | January 06, 2011 at 08:27 PM
Aloco, your comedy act has run its course. It is boring and childish. Knock it off.
Posted by: Scooter | January 06, 2011 at 08:27 PM
we will see who will have the last laugh
Posted by: ALoco | January 06, 2011 at 08:29 PM
Ashevillephinphan,
In my opinion this is a message.....its a message to the league....and its a message to Bill Parcells...Ross is ensuring that everyone knows that Parcells is no longer incharge of Football Operations for the Miami Dolphins.....and...the Job he did here was NOT UP TO PAR....
I for one am glad.....
Posted by: Kris | January 06, 2011 at 08:32 PM
ALoco,
I dont know if its too late but to thicken anything you're cooking you make "RUE".
It's a combination of melted butter and flour. Blend it together to form a pastey mudlike texture mix. You can use flour only to thicken any watery suaces but you end up with many lumps. The butter combined with flour prevents this.
Just make sure your sauce is extremely hot when you do it or it doesnt thicken very well. Add the mixture a little at a time until you get the desired thicknes. Because adding to mauch will turn your sauce to wallpaper paste. LOL...........
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 06, 2011 at 08:32 PM
Right or Wrong,, atleast Mr.Ross is trying to do something good. i hope Harbough is the new coach, but if not, Tony Sparano sees the writing on the wall.
" Mediocrity is not accepted here in Miami "
Posted by: observer | January 06, 2011 at 08:32 PM
Lets make sure he this gets Added to the Half-hour Bill Parcells "man in the mirror" special on NFL network
Posted by: Kris | January 06, 2011 at 08:33 PM
DB,
LAUGH AT ME ,I CAN TAKE IT BUT YOU GOT TO GIVE ME YOUR APOLOGY LATER
Posted by: ALoco | January 06, 2011 at 08:34 PM
Kris. I agree with that I just feel get rid of sparano before.it just looks bad to potential coaches and players when you conduct business this way
Posted by: ashevillephinfan | January 06, 2011 at 08:35 PM
Tony is a middle man....so is it really a surprise that he is caught in the middle??
Not to me.....
Let him dangle, twist, wriggle, and then uncerimounisly fired with just a blip on the ESPN ticker......
Parcells gave us the bottom of the barrell and then washed his hands and looked for the next Pay Day....and were suppose to feel sorry for his middle man...
Our fired DC...a parcells man
Henning...a parcells man
Sporano...A Parcells man.....
Maybe they will invite you guys to there YACHT party after they this off-season
Posted by: Kris | January 06, 2011 at 08:39 PM
You are damned right about that, observer.
Posted by: oscar canosa | January 06, 2011 at 08:41 PM
Ashevillphinfan.....Money will make them/us all forget....they only thing that has a shorter memory then money is winning.....do that and coaches and players will be lining up to play here...
