Dan Henning takes another step in his career

It has been a week of breathless anticipation by fans and participants alike, as folks have been waiting to see what goes down with the Dolphins head coach job. And in the midst of offers to Bill Cowher and talks with Jon Gruden and talks with Jim Harbaugh and more talks with Harbaugh, we have overlooked the other news.

Dan Henning has left the Dolphins.

Henning, the offensive coordinator in Miami the last three seasons, agreed with coach Tony Sparano that it would be best to part ways, a source close to Henning said Thursday night.

It is not clear if this is a retirement or simply a parting. Henning, you see, is said to want to take some time to reflect on his current situation, but may remain open to future work if the right opportunity comes along.

Henning has served 31 years in the NFL and five of those with the Dolphins, the last three under Sparano. He was previously the offensive coordinator in Carolina, the New York Jets, Buffalo, and Detroit. He was the head coach in San Diego (1989-91) and Atlanta (1983-86).

Obviously the Dolphins now need to hire an offensive coordinator. But at this hour (check the time stamp on this post) the team has not fired Sparano nor made a contract offer to Harbaugh.

Henning is gone, Saprano is next and to complete the trifecta Henne. Rumor says 35 mil for 5 years Harbaugh can't say no to that.

bobby i never said she did, i dont think he comes here. i live in kc and her entire family lives here. she loves the midwest. denver is the choice. no chanc ehe returns to stanford

ireland needs to go also. else we will waste another draft and free agency

If I'm not mistaken, Luck has two years of eligibility left at Stanford. He has said he wants to finish his degree before turning pro. There's a good chance he goes back to school again after next season and doesn't declare until the 2013 draft.

Ireland is putting Sparano under the bus. Sparano puts Henning under the bus. These guys are like a pack of wolves tearing at each other. That's what you get when you created one of the most boring and predictable offense in the NFL. Now Sparano and Ireland are squirming they don't know yet what Harbaugh will do. If I ws Harbaugh first thing is get rid of Ireland. No Parcell's advice on anything. Draft me a QB in the draft. See who is tradeable in the current roster and get more picks. No one including Marshall is safe. Built the right way even if it means a couple of seasons with loosing records. Then come in like a gangbuster.

Henning's playcalling, and Sparano's reluctance to rein him in, has cost him his job and Sparano's as well. This season, we have seen some of the most inept coaching on the field that I have ever seen in an NFL team. And, that confusion leaked down to the players who weren't real sure of themselves to begin with. You get three years in this league to show us what you've got as a playert or you're gone. Apparently, that applies to coaches too! Maybe Tony's gonna hang around as Special Teams Coach. He did seem to really enjoy those fieldgoals!

blindref, bet he does say NO, already looks like he has!!!

EVERYTIME PEOPLE ASK ANDREW LUCK ABOUT THE NFL ..HE CHANGES THE SUBJECT QUICKLY..THIS GUY ALWAYS WANTED TO STAY HIS SENIOR YEAR!

Bill,
He'll have teams lined up around the building next year too. Possibly better options too. Chargers? Texans? Giants? Its not a one time thing. 49ers are a mess, the Broncos are no where close to being good, Miami is dysfunctional. He can do better.

nfl network just said the niners are out of the running for harbaugh, they offered 4.5 per season. mia has an 8 mill per on the table. harbaugh was seeking 6.5 per. said miami will now interview some minority candiates and harbaugh will decide where to go mby monday. so there u have it

craig hes on pace to graduate next year

bill_cnnrs, last week I said Luck may stay in school, everyone said I was full of shyt. I don't believe that Stanford is totally out of it, especially with a potential LockOut and a chance to win a National Championship. That said, more then likely your right, just never say never.

and get this nfl network also said people in the league told him to go to miami easily over san fran cause of how easy ireland is to work with

wow josh mcdaniels to interview for vikes oc pos

If the Niners are out of it and Miami pit 8 mil on the table and Miami is the only team to make an offer, why does he wait till Monday? Why didn't he jump all over that money? If money was the only factor, he would have reached an agreement before Ross left IMO

he cant, they have to meet the rooney rule is what it said and harbaugh loves stanford to much not to tell them in person first. plus he still may meet with elway it said

im still not trusting any of this. until hes signed on the line i wont get excited

heres whats on the net now, ill paste it:

The Miami Dolphins could be preparing to offer Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh a contract worth $8 million per season, league sources said Thursday.

Should the Dolphins fulfill the Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for an open head-coaching job, Harbaugh's hiring in Miami could happen quickly.

still shocked gruden turned down 7 mill per. what a moron. i never wanted that guy anyways. i think he just likes hearing his name for his ego. probaly knows he cant win if he does comeback

Does anyone really believe the Dolphins worried about the Rooney Rule? I don't think Ross cares about a $250,000 fine if he didn't.

bill_cnnrs your probably right about Denver. They will offer him a little less then Miami but it will be where he wants to be.

well he must cause they are looking for one to interview, lol

its denver or miami fellas.

TONY SPARANO HAS BEEN INFORMED HE'S OUT AND IT WILL BE OUT TONIGHT IN THE NEWS .

if thats true harbaugh is even closer to signing with us

i told people back in september carl peterson would help us.

From Jason La Canfora NFL.com
"There remains the possibility that attempting to pry Harbaugh away from Stanford will prove to be a fruitless exercise. The coach remains a very real candidate to stay at the school, according to a source."

yeah bobby espn just said that.

Like I said biil_cnnrs, never say never. He may have told Luck there is a good chance he would stay

Well, I'm glad to see the Herald has just posted the breaking AP newswire story that Harbaugh met with Ross today.

Will they soon report that the sun will, indeed, rise in the East tomorrow as well?

GOOD RIDDENS!!!!

I see comments of people asking for Vince Young....PLEASE NO!!! He is a selfish player, and IS NOT as good as people make him out to be! Remember Culpepper?!?!

all this is getting beyond ridiculous just dump mr. field goal fistpump already and give the job to nolan and hope it works out enough is enough

GRUDEN TAKING THE MIAMI HURRICANS JOB, ARON RODGERS RETIRING WITH BRAIN DAMAGE...I ATE HUMPTY DUMPTY..ALL STORIES OUT IN MORNING YOU"LL SEE.

TYPING LEFTY OTHER FINGER STUCK IN MY HOLE

If we don't get Cowher, Harbaugh, Fisher or Gruden. Who else is there??? No way can we keep Sparano. You can't expect this guy to ever coach another game for this team. No matter how you feel about the guy. Just not fair what Ross is doing to him. If you don't want him, gotta just let him go. How can he coach a team whose owner has completly disrespected him. Got to give him walking papers, than look for replacement. Bad way to do business. Very Disrespectful!!!

No one's picking up Vince Young before he's cut. Pick him before then and you're on the hook for his $12.5 million 2011 salary.

Why do that when the whole world already knows he's being cut or released?

Lets break the blog record in kissing this sorry old chump goodbye.
80 yrs old and still aint grown a pair !!!

Repost:

Meant to post Titans still owe Vince Young $12.5 million. No one wants to be on the hook for that by not waiting until he's cut. LOL...........

I wish the man the best but the team will not miss him. This is definitely a case of addition by subtraction!

Harbaugh, if he signs, I trust will be the best evaluator of the qb situation, who we keep or who we bring in. Can't trust Ireland to pick the right QB. Until its done, I say its 50/50, things happen.

Sorry Guys! Mort, Glazer and Sheffner are all reporting a NO on Harbaugh!

Sparano Stays.....Damn!

Adam Schefter breaking news!!! @After meeting with Harbaugh, sources have decided that Tony Soprano is best man for the job. Will be retained"

Jay Glazer is tweeting the dolphins are opting to retain sparano bowing out of the harbaugh sweepstakes.

ESPN says its a NO GO! On Harbaugh!!!

Get ya Fist Pumps Ready!

vince young has leadership issues and is a bit spoiled, but athletically, he has the tools. He can win games..

Am not saying we get him, but it will be hard to get a franchise QB that will start for us next year, so if Ireland/Sporano have only a year to show they can win, Vince might be worth a gamble if he becomes a free agent.. just saying..

and I am not sure why we don't grab an exciting OC and get back to work... Harbaugh seems over priced and unless they make serious personel moves to upgrade this offence, no coach will win a thing next year.

Now this circus has taken a bite our of Coach fistpump's street cred.. if they retain him, he might have less control... Ross did a bad thing here...

DOLPHINS WILL RETAIN TONY SPARANO

TONY SPARANO HAS SURVIVED

How do you pay an unproven NFL coach a record salary? Dumb.

JOY, TONY HAS SURVIVED

Adam Schefter and Jay Glazer are Reporting Fins are keeping Sporano and dropping out of bidding for Harbaugh

TONY SPARANO WILL BE THE NEXT HC ....LOL

Why Not Us!

Feed the Wolf!

Fist Pump!

GOD JOB ROSS,SPARANO IS THE MAN AS BOBBYD12 SAID

And I was 100% Correct Tony Stays!!

I wouldn't say Miami "dropped out of the bidding."

Harbaugh said no.

There's a difference.

IT'S A COMEDY CENTRAL

I'm seriously thinking there is something wrong here? There are a lot of people quitting or not wanting to come here?

Can't believe my comment was removed. No bad language. Come on Mando.
