It has been a week of breathless anticipation by fans and participants alike, as folks have been waiting to see what goes down with the Dolphins head coach job. And in the midst of offers to Bill Cowher and talks with Jon Gruden and talks with Jim Harbaugh and more talks with Harbaugh, we have overlooked the other news.
Dan Henning has left the Dolphins.
Henning, the offensive coordinator in Miami the last three seasons, agreed with coach Tony Sparano that it would be best to part ways, a source close to Henning said Thursday night.
It is not clear if this is a retirement or simply a parting. Henning, you see, is said to want to take some time to reflect on his current situation, but may remain open to future work if the right opportunity comes along.
Henning has served 31 years in the NFL and five of those with the Dolphins, the last three under Sparano. He was previously the offensive coordinator in Carolina, the New York Jets, Buffalo, and Detroit. He was the head coach in San Diego (1989-91) and Atlanta (1983-86).
Obviously the Dolphins now need to hire an offensive coordinator. But at this hour (check the time stamp on this post) the team has not fired Sparano nor made a contract offer to Harbaugh.

AGAIN!!!
Sparano has players hanging in the wind all the time. It's business!
Al's Gal always test the waters then goes back to ALoco and all is forgiven.
Big laugh like the one in Kung Fu Movies! hahahah!

Espn reporting Harbaugh turned down the job after trying to read a blogger called "ALoco's" comments in a Miami Herald blog.
Harbaugh's comments were just,"UNBELIEVABLE". I aint going there no matter how much Ross offers me! LOL.........

The only positive about this is I never was fond of retaining Ireland and hiring a new coach. I am of the opinion if you fire Sporano then Ireland should go too (clean house). Now the "double-fecta" is going to sign some veteran stiff QB as oppossed to drafting a potential franchise QB. SUCKS!!!!
Posted by: RoadRage | January 06, 2011 at 11:42 PM
I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO THE HEYNA COWHER ? F-HIM
Posted by: ALoco | January 06, 2011 at 11:42 PM
So, think Ireland will ever allow himself to be alone in the same room with Sparano anytime soon? Jeff def deserves a beat down for acting like a prostitue the last 4 days. Dez Bryants mom should pimp him out
Posted by: Jon | January 06, 2011 at 11:42 PM
NO more club seats for me
and screw ross getting public money
this team is gonna suck once again
screw wasting money on the dolphins
Posted by: test | January 06, 2011 at 11:43 PM
Seer,
Good! Maybe all of the other Nfl teams feels sorry enough for Sparano to let him win the SB next season. LOL...........

Aloco, are you seeing the same therapist as tortured?????
Posted by: G | January 06, 2011 at 11:43 PM
Gotta say I'm already worried Ross is well on his way to becoming another Dan Snyder. I have a feeling he'll just figure he can throw money at any problem and make it go away.
Fans get into that mindset a lot, always wanting their team to make a huge splash in free-agency or wherever but it simply doesn't work.
The Dolphins aren't going to become "Detroit South" as our soon to exit the playoffs Jets blogger claims but they surely may become "Redskins South" with that mentality in the owners chair.

why is nfl.com beating you to the story of miami keeping sparano?
Posted by: stephen | January 06, 2011 at 11:44 PM
Yes, everyone is laughing at you. Turned down by the top 3 coaching candidates. Your money is no good. Everyone got a good look at how Mr. Ross treat his coaches with Sparano left in the wind back in Miami and his weasel sidekick along for the ride. Jeff Ireland is a weasel. Well at least he can get started on researching player's moms.
Posted by: TorturedDolphan | January 06, 2011 at 11:44 PM
Jon,
Youre right! Ireland looked like a bigger ho than Dez moms will ever be over the last 4 days. LOL...............

Posted by: dr. roberts | January 06, 2011 at 11:45 PM
does any of this really make a difference? the dolphins were three or four plays away from 10-6. the major issue is henne, who has to be gotten rid of (or demoted to backup). with a good (not even great) nfl caliber starting qb, a running back and receiver with some speed, and a lineman or two, miami can make the playoffs next year. now, will they be super bowl caliber? no. but would harbaugh bave made them super bowl caliber without luck and an easy pac-10 schedule? no.

I GOT THE FEELING THAT IRELAND SAVED TONY SPARANO'S JOB .
LET'S ALL HAVE A DRINK IN THE HONOR OF MY HERO TONY SPARANO.

Jon, you do know McDaniels and Nolan aren't exactly best buds right?
Posted by: G | January 06, 2011 at 11:49 PM
What disturbs me most, I've waited patiently for Ross to show his cards. With Parcells around, he was obliged not to interfere, so this was our first chance to see him in action. Very disappointing. He has no idea how to lure anyone. Hopping on a jet and throwing money around sounds quite a lot like Wayne H. Its obvious now this team can not draw quality coaching talent. Despite the few optimists on this blog, it sure seems to me we are much further away, years, from being a perennial playoff team again.
Posted by: 0x80 | January 06, 2011 at 11:49 PM
Holy Cow, This is a mess. Well, About two or three blogs ago, i wrote a worst case scenerio where if this happens we still may be ok. If i find it, i will cut and repost. The only problem with it is, i did not have any clue this coaching nightmare search would happen...
Posted by: poizen | January 06, 2011 at 11:49 PM
WOW,
Were fried fish! Sparano for another year it says on ESPN.com Miami is done with that joke of a coach. Ross ripped Sparano's balls off and now he stays. WTF!

Rex Ryan is going to have about a 4-year shelf life in the NFL before that act grows beyond stale with the players.
He's halfway there already.
Oh, and snicker all you want Jets fan but that blur you just saw was the Patriots leaving YOU in the rearview mirror same as us.

Posted by: ALoco | January 06, 2011 at 11:50 PM
Well I guess they keep Sparano so Miami goes 8-8 again and out of reach of an elite player, AGAIN! I am so sick of this mediocrity. I went to the home opener, the Pittsburgh game and the Browns game. All 3 losses! I am not spending another dime on this incompetancy!

Martin @11:55 bout sums it up...
Posted by: Martin | January 06, 2011 at 11:58 PM
What a lot of bunk!! Ross owes it to the fans to pursue all avenues to make this team better. He did that. He pursued Harbaugh and for whatever reason they couldn't make it work. He talked to Gruden, it didn't work. Cowher it didn't work. As for Ireland he is an employee of the Miami Dolphins, he does what the owner asks him to do. Glazer is stir up some controversy between the GM and the coach....BS!! Happy to have Sparano back and Henning gone in the same day!.....now let's get moving on a new OC and start improving the offence.
Posted by: Craig M | January 06, 2011 at 11:58 PM
I don't trust how Ross will run this team at all, nor do I like how he's handled this whole thing BUT I can't really say he "blew" getting Harbaugh or could have done something different to make him say yes.
He flew out there and offered to make the guy the highest paid coach in the NFL. That's not exactly a half-hearted effort.
Don't read that as an endorsement of Ross at all---it isn't---just an opinion on this one particular. What else could he have offered Harbaugh? His own planet?
Posted by: dr. roberts | January 06, 2011 at 11:59 PM
Well, let all you guys vent while I go to bed happy. Here's one guy who has no problem renewing his Club Seats now that Ross has done the right thing and kept Sparano. Just look forward to seeing Dolphin77, 2 watt, Denny Rodriguez and a couple others who told me how wrong I was. Just like Tom Coughlin said, "You Can Line Up And Kiss My Ass"
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 07, 2011 at 12:00 AM
craig m you are going to see how freakin stupid you are by the end of next season. all available factual evidence shows sparano can't cut it, in over his head, and basically clueless. wait and see. if you taped the last game, watch it again and see how utterly lost he looks on the sideline. happy new year.
Posted by: stuffed pie | January 07, 2011 at 12:02 AM
What a joke! Please no more Josh McDaniels and Kyle Orten talk. It's making me sick. Re-uniting them with Marshall and Nolan? Why don't we get the entire 2008 Broncos?
Posted by: RoadRage | January 07, 2011 at 12:02 AM
Craig M, smile and laugh after all the shyt you and I took on this blog the last week. Feels good, doesnt it??? :)
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 07, 2011 at 12:03 AM
Wow, I am sick to my stomach. All the reports of Harbaugh coming to Miami had me feeling pretty good all day.
Ross just showed me how incompetant he is. He is as incompetant as Tony Sparano and the coaching staff. Wow, just wow.
Tony Sparano has no face left in that locker room. Ross wants to sell out games? He won't with Sparano. Look at Sparano's coaching style of it our guys versus yours. It don't work! There is not complexity or detail to his game plan. It's exactly what Ricky Williams said a bunch of rah rah that goes in one ear and out the other. I am definitely not seeing the beautiful city of Miami in 2011.

Stuffed pie go f*ck yourself!! I don't appreciate being called stupid.....why because I don't agree with you or the majority of the people on here. I want to see this team win as much as anybody and I happen to disagree with others on how to get there. That makes me stupid? It obvioulsy doesn't because the owner is sticking with the guy who's run the show for the last three years. The problem is not Sparano, as I've said all along. The problem was the OC and a number of the players. Lets see who was right.
Posted by: Craig M | January 07, 2011 at 12:06 AM
if boobyd things 7-9 feels good, he'll love 4-12!!! celebrate bruthas

You win bro. Although I don't see what about Sparano makes you think Miami can win with him. He hasn't done anything. His line up our guys vs yours and punch them in the mouth last worked when Scott Norwood's kick went wide right. You guys will be as frustrated as I am now by week 10 in 2011 when Miami is already out of the playoff race. Sparano can't coach the offense, he can't coach D that's Mike Nolans job and he can't coach offensive linemen. What does he do good, please explain?

Posted by: dr. roberts | January 07, 2011 at 12:09 AM
Craig M,
Explain why Miami can win with Sparano? This team has to be looking at Sparano like we are only playing for him because no one else wanted to be part of "this". This team is fucccked. Belichick is too smart and good to compete with the likes of a guy who admits he aint that smart. What kind of coach says that? This team is a joke man, no correction it starts from the top this organization is officially the LAUGHING STOCK of the league after this fuccck up.
Posted by: Andy NJ | January 07, 2011 at 12:10 AM
Andy,
Here's the thing....if you're right, Tony will be out the door next year and you guys can get your wish. My hope was that he get another year to pick his OC and turn this thing around. Looks like he's going to get that. If he fails, I'll be right there with you guys saying he had his chance.
Posted by: Craig M | January 07, 2011 at 12:10 AM
craig m, yes you are STUPID. i'll tell you why...becuase you blame the oc and fail to see that the coach should be in charge, sparano can't lead..,every complaint you have about the oc is a comp;laint against sparanal because he allows it to continue because he, like you, is freakin stupid, and doesn't know anything. the coach needs to lead the oc, not accept his diahrea game plan for 3 seasons while belichek make him look like the biggest dumbo on earth.
Posted by: stuffed pie | January 07, 2011 at 12:11 AM
Andy,
We can win with Sparano because he wasn't the problem. You're going to see that after next season.
