David Lee leaving Dolphins for Ole Miss

David Lee did wonderful work in bringing to the Dolphins the signature offensive package that helped carry them to the playoffs in 2008 -- the Wildcat package.

And in doing so the quarterback coach did something perhaps no NFL quarterback coach had done before: Find a way to make your offense more explosive by removing the quarterback from the equation.

Well, Lee is taking his Wildcat scheme back to the college ranks where he first used them. Lee has parted ways with the Dolphins to become the offensive coordinator at Mississippi a source confirms.

Great!

This is a good thing for everyone.

Lee, you see, put his stamp on Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne the past two years in that Henne became a tireless worker. Henne spent countless hours preparing. Henne knew the playbook and his assignments and reads backwards and forwards.

But ...

Lee, a cautious sort, seemed to turn Henne into something of a cautious, undaring kind of quarterback. Henne didn't often dare go with his gut or heart and simply fling it. He trusted the book instead of his eyes.

And that turned Henne into something of a robot. It clearly did not work. It needed to be broken up. And now it is.

The Dolphins may not be done. There is an obvious need to upgrade the special teams and Assistant head coach and secondary coach Todd Bowles interviewed with the Dallas Cowboys lately.

It is possible Darren Rizzi, who took over as special teams coordinator when John Bonamego was fired could also leave. But just as likely he will stay while the Dolphins look for more help as in a fulltime special teams coordinator.

Bowles?

I'm told he will stay with the Dolphins. That's good. He's got a lot of work to do with a young secondary that limited mental mistakes in 2010, but struggled to catch potential interceptions that could have changed the direction of games.

The Dolphins thus have a opening at offensive coordinator and quarterback coach and could be looking for a special teams coordinator.

great news

Lee's resume included the University of Arkansas, and developing Tony Romo. I think that Lee was part of the problem in Chad Hennes lack of development. He wanted Henne to complete his progressions instead of just letting loose and playing naturally. what happened(IMO) was we sculpted a quarterback that had to think instead of just play. I don't Know if Chad will ever become the answer here. But who knows what a fresh start will do for his carrer. Look at a guy like Kyle Orton. Many(including myself) have been waxing poetic about him possibly bringing his talents to South Beach. Well go back and look at the first 4 years of his carrer with the Bears. He was a turnover machine that was jettisoned to the bench in favor of 1 Rex Grossman. It took Orton getting moved into a different system for him to blossom into a quaterback that many see as an upgrade to Henne. Maybe all is not lost here. Unlikely as it may have seemed 2 weeks ago after the Pats game. Maybe Henne, with a new system will get a stay of execution here. And being optomistic can become a serviceable quarterback.

Reading all the armando questions and responses from the previous blog it sounds like that
1. Every decision the phins have made are crap.
2. All the teams in the NFL are better than the phins and have made better decisions
3. We are regressing while the whole world is going forward.
4. We'd be lucky to win one game next year.
5. Bill belicheat is the second coming of jesus christ

Thanks for the comments. I'm so glad i read them all.

THE TE COACH LEFT 2 DAYS AGO
MR LEE LEFT TODAY
ST COACH MR RIZZI WILL LEAVE TOMORROW

THE OC WILL BE HIRED NEXT WEEK.......JHON GARRET

NICE!!!! Mando now writing some of Poizen's facts in his article.

this is a start everyone, we will finlly see if henne can be good or not.

Remember all you haters with the Guts, Henne jerseys will be bought around if he pans out!!!

I hope Henne can get that confidence back, he throws lazers.

Henne sucks today, yesterday, and always will. Too many plays he botched too often that had nothing to do with the coaches...passes batted down, leading the receivers to where they are sure to get clobbered, unable to avoid the blitz, useless on broken plays, useless in the redzone and way too many inaccurate throws. Can't blame Lee for more than 10% of that if any at all.

MR SPARANO WILL HIRE ALL COACHES FOR FIRST TIME SINCE HE CAME TO MIAMI .................HE WILL GO TO THE PLAYOFFS HATERS .

Hopefully he will take Henne with him to Ole Miss, nevermind I don't think Henne could start there

Thank you! Great news. I hated the wildcat please that it with him and never use it again. I hope he didn't permanently damage Henne. I thought it was great when Marshall and him got into it. Marshall knows how to play in the NFL clearly Lee did not.

^^^^^^^TS^^^^^^^^

Must have never played a lick of football, or QB in your life for that comment. Plain and simply dumb.

If Henne "Sucked" he never would have gotten to the NFL at all son. The O-Line inconsistancy, shich led to a tterrible run game led to the problems with henne.

Yet you want to blame Henne for it all, just dumb.

great now get rid of henne, and it's starting to come together. brad childress and donavon mcnabb!

Than goodness. Don't let the door hit you in the "you know what".

I'm sorry, all you people calling for Henn'es head right now are insane.

He deserves another chance to compete for the starting job, Go ask brandon Marshall what he thinks.

Oh, your all smarter than him also.

The only coach on the staff worth a sh** is Nolan.

What's his contract status? Is there a "pathetic joke of an organization" clause in his contract that allows him leave?

Poizen next time try watching henne with your eyes open. Strong arm and absolutely nothing else. Sounds like you have a Henne poster on your ceiling. Parcells himself is quoted as saying he was deeply dissappointed in Henne...but you know better I know. Bong on friend.

ARMANDO NOW OWES TWO APOLOGY ;;;

1-TO MR ROSS FOR CALLING NAMES.
2- TO MR SPARANO FOR SAYING IN THE LIVE BLOG TODAY (( SPARANO WILL KEEP MR LEE B/C THEY R VERY CLOSE FRIENDS )) .

TOMORROW RIZZI WILL BE GONE

Poizen...Marshall has already spoken, don't you pay attention? He totally dissed Henne. He favors Thigpen. Get a clue before you speak.

brandon marshall already told him he sucks, and he wanted thigpen in there, what else is there to be said?

We will still a QB , But I am glad he is gone what he had to say wasn't working with Henne, and really it always comes down to the player with the ball in his hands and Henne is no NFL QB

Wow so much Henne hate. I can understand frustration but hate?

With those comments should come realistic comments and no we are not going to trade Thigpen for Brady. That would be unrealistic, just so you know the parameters.

I believe Henne will be alot different next year, not to say we shouldn't bring in competition.

Draft Mallett if he falls, otherwise find a midrounder you can develope unless they are high on Bradstreeter.

Veteran QB, I'm not sure but I would stay clear of Young. I have the feeling they are going to get someone we aren't even aware they are available.

Youu see that wasn't so hard. :)

damn skippy!

Re-sign Thingpen and give him a real chance to compete for the starters job with whichever Qb you draft ot bring in

Remember when we hailed Lee as a genius for the Wildcat?

Where are these quotes from Marshall and Parcells at, I havn't read anything. Now I have heard from a "reliable source" comments......................... and we all know where Carl Peterson wasn't, don't we?

IF YOU GUYS NOTICE ALL SPARANO AND HENNE HATERS ARE DROP OUT OR MAIL MEN .

Anyone that thinks we can just snap our fingers and find a quarterback needs to land their spaceship. We won't be able to make trades before the draft unless the CBA is settled. This means no draft day movement with other teams players. This goes for free agents as well. There are just too many teams that need help at the position to guarantee that we will land an upgrade. Just by the reality of this situation it could be that Henne will by default be in good position to start next year. Why anyone wants to see him fail is beyond me. For this franchise, it would do wonders for Henne to come into his own. We wouldn't have to play the game of spin the quarterback bottle. We would have some stability at the most important position on the field. Now, anyone that doesn't think that Henne has the ability to become this player has every right to believe so. I don't think he will be top tier. But if he can take to some new instruction, correct his footwork(which will help with accuracy) and just learn to play. We will be better off in the long run. This teams has too many other holes to fill to worry about finding a new quarterback every year.

resign thigpen,lol thigpen is awful

Marshalls comments were all over the news last week, he was on a local radio show. He is totally frustrated with Henne, probably burned his relationship with him. We should trade Henne for a #4 pick.

Armando is seeing the light and is backing off the "it's all just Henne's fault" nonsense. David Lee was no NFL QB coach! Played a huge role in the offensive fiasco...

Anyone like Jake Locker at #15 for QB?

TS,

Do you have a link I could check out?

Personally I think way too much is blamed on David Lee. I'll bet if he was Marinos coach Marino still would lit the field up, because Marino had talent, he was a competitor. Henne just does what he is told, doesn't call upon his inner ability, that will never work. Watch him on the sideline, he doesn't even talk to the receivers or go over plays, just stands there quiet. He is a punch clock QB. Punch in. Punch out. Game over time to go home.

Beerphin,

Jury is still out for me, he is a few inches shorter than Mallet and has a tremendous upside. Unfortunately he has an equal downside. At this point for me he would be too big of a risk at 15.

yeah palm beach post, sun sentinal, pro sports daly, yard barker, need any more?

JB, True but he will go before 20 this year no doubt especially with Luck staying in college. I see him being the 3rd best QB available but i'm not a Mallet fan and I think Cam Newton is going top 10. QB should be the number 1 priority this year and if it isn't addressed in the 1st rd I don't think we will ever really begin to rebuild.

JB, I don't have a link, but it was all over the herald, SS, espn and SI. I think 95% of the bloggers here saw the quotes, it was a topic of conversation...this wasn't false reporting, it was taken right from a local radio show he did right after the season ended.

MARSHALL ,THE 3 TD MAN .ALL TALK ,ALL DROPED BALLS .NEXT YEAR HE BETTER SHUT HIS MOUTH AND JUST PLAY .WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER ARMANDO .

yeah other teams in need as well, so who has the edge? sparano knows he needs a real qb, so he should be real aggressive, or it will be the same after 6 games next year people calling for his head.

D77, ARE YOU A REAL FAN OR JUST PLAYING CIRCUS WITH US ?

0x80,

Not really fair to compare him to Marino, he was in class that few are in.

I agree he has some changes to make, but the infusion of new coaching could turn this kid around.

Quite honestly Henne succeding is the best possible scenario.

I'm not comparing the postions, but I do recall prior to the draft many wanted to draft a NT first round. Best possible scnario happened, Solai stepped up, now I hope we resign him.

The best wat to view Henne IMO at this point is cautious optimism.

that's not his fault, if they had a qb that could get the ball in the endzone he would have had more.

HENNE WII SUCCED ,WILL GO TO THE PLAYOFFS.

Soliai is a beast we definetly need to resign him good NT are hard to find. He was one of those big impact players that might not have the numbers. Same with Langford. I'm just curious where Odrick fits in?

aloco im a fan, but dont you get sick of watching the wets and patsies in the playoffs all the time? why are all the teams that are in the playoffs, why are they there? they have a QB!

TS,

Wow don't know how I missed that. I'm all over most of those sources.

But honestly, without many options out there are you not hoping he succeeds?

im a dolphins fan, not a henne fan. dont you get sick of seeing the wets and patsies in the playoffs? and why are they there, as for all the teams in the playoffs? they have a QB!

As far as the relationship with Marshall........He is high strung, throw him a couple of TD passes and he'll say Henne is a pro bowler.

gabbert most likely will go before any of those other 3 qbs

D77,

WE WILL BE , REMEMBER WHEN TUNA FINISHED HIS FIRST YEAR IN NY 3-12 ,THE HE WON THE SUPER THE FOLLOWING 2 YEAR .SAPARANO COULD A REPEAT . THAT'S WHAT TUNA TOLD ROSS .

jets arent in the playoffs cause they have a qb. sanchez is garbage most of the time. they have a good coaching staff, we dont. they have a good gm, we dont. they have a good owner, we dont. its quite simple

did anyone see the mock drafts? some have miami taking ingram, some have gabbert, some have locker, and some have newton, that will all change come the combine.

Anybody notice how the Patsies plug in a multitude of late round QBs and they all look good???? That O is very QB friendly and they do a good job of developing them. The Wets DO NOT have a QB!!!! Not developed yet. SAnchez has a ton of talent around him and is still struggling terribly with accuracy and decision making!

this is the last year u will ever see sparano being a head coach in the nfl

im happy to see lee go, next is henne. The fact that chad henne who showed a lot of potential when he first started for this team has regressed to this point is due in part to coach lee, i think we all can agree to that point. Not all the blame, but he definitely was a contributing factor
good luck at ole miss, hotty toddy and all that $hit. now lets go get an offensive coordinator who isnt senile, and a quarterbacks coach who has a pair

Bill,

Yeah forgot about Gabbert.

Top 4?

Gabbert
Newton
Mallett
Luck

JB,

Yeah, not fair to compare to Marino, I just wanted to make a point. I don't see Henne trying to rise to the occasion, make something happen. He seems aloof. Its really hard to say how much of that is the coaching on not just him. We may have to just stick with him another season if we don't have any better options, I'm just saying I no longer have an optimistic feeling about him.

well they compared the stats between sanchez and henne though close they said sanchez is the better qb and will hve a better pro career than henne will, so thats not saying much for henne and the dolphins if the wets don't have a qb.

Two most critical coaching spots to fill this year. The Dolphins can't screw these two coaches up. Interested to see who they choose

not luck, hes in college. u meant locker id take any of the 4 at 15

look fellas i think we all know henne isnt the qb of the present or future now. they will def go a different direction next season, which is good
