Dolphins in the market for a RB and TE coach

The Dolphins don't just have one offensive coaching job to fill, they have as many as three because they are in the market for a running back coach and a tight end coach as well as a quarterback coach.

I have learned running back coach James Saxon is gone from the staff for reasons that, well, have to do with performance. I covered him as a running back with the Dolphins and like the man so I will not tell you he was fired. Let's say he simply has not been retained.

Tight end coach George Deleone is not on the Dolphins staff anymore, either. He was not necessarily terminated. He has been hired by the University of Connecticut as an assistant to former Dolphins defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni, who is the new head coach at UConn.

The Dolphins, who introduced new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll today, thus must still fill positions at running back, tight end coach, and quarterback coach, assuming Daboll doesn't coach the QBs. The Dolphins earlier parted ways with offensive coordinator Dan Henning and quarterbacks coach David Lee.

That means four of the six offensive assistants the Dolphins had when the 2010 season ended have moved on for one reason or another. Wide receivers coach Karl Dorrell and offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo are the remaining offensive assistants still on staff.

Saxon joined the Dolphins in 2008 after a six-year run as the Kansas City Chiefs running backs coach. This season the Dolphins running backs were a tremendous disappointment. Both Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown started the season with hopes of gaining 1,000 yards -- each.

Neither reached that goal and in fact both seemed to regress from previous seasons.

Brown gained 734 yards and averaged a career-low 3.7 yards per carry. Williams gained 673 while averaging 4.2 yards a carry. Interesting that both players are free agents and it is possible if not probable neither will be re-signed by the Dolphins.

The thing about Sanchez is his ability to put poor play behind him, and then make the big play at crucial times. Sure his stats aren't great. But who cares. He delivers the mail when his team is looking for their paychecks. We seems to elevate his play come playoff time. You cannot ignore what he has done, and the teams the jets have beaten ON THE ROAD over the last two years. People can make all the excuses in the world for Hennes shortcomings, and we have heard them all. It is obvious his team trusts him. Henne...Not so much.

What makes everybody think that investing our 1st draft pick on the OLINE will be effective....hell these guys have had 3 years to do that with NO SUCCESS....

We could potentially be into year 4 with a poor OLINE anyway...they cant pick well

The OLINE should already be awesome....what we trust then to fix it after 3 botched years?

Draft the best available need...QB 1st

Theyl miss on the OLINE anyway

Who is everybody picking this weekend? I'm thinking the Packers and the Steelers but I have to admit, the Jets have me worried in the late game. Thoughts guys?

Craig..The thought of the jets playing to win the Cup is horrible enough. Watching it would be a nightmere. That said I don't really have a rooting interest except seeing the jets crash. I think I would rather eat a bowl of ranch dressing then see the jests win this week.

I know it's not a popular thought on here but I was ACTUALLY cheering for the Jets to beat the Colts. Sad but true....Not sure what brought it on. Maybe just seeing Manning and company being knocked off. I'd actually started to find Rex quite amusing. Not sure what got into me, 'cause I hate them as much as the next guy. Something tells me they're a team of destiny this year and they'll win on Sunday.

RB Wiley Coyote
TE Ricky Martin
How could the Fins do better?

Sanchez and Henne can NOT be compared except with stats. Sanputz has one of the top three O-lines, a running game(which comes with having a great O-line), and much more time to throw the ball(again O-line). Im not saying Henne is good, I still think he has a chance, but Sanputz, behind our line, would have been worse. His stats were not any better then Henne's. They wanted him replaced saveral times this year but fat..s stuck with him.

Sullyfins....no way Henne makes the BIG PLAY throws Sancheez does...sorry...Sanchez makes those throws....

CraigM...are u crazy?...Jets?...Destiny?
Wheres our destiny?..We wont have one until we become AGGRESSIVE in drafting and FA...

Last year FA was aggressive and we got 2 from 2

We need MORE...We need to stop thinking these guys can get OLINE fixed via DRAFT...

They havnt and they WONT...do it via FA only

These guys can only hit on SURE THINGS...Dansby, Marshall...thats their remitt..

The miss on unheard of no names all the time when MUCH BETTER is right in front of us at DRAFT TIME....

These guys CANNOT get it done.....so far...

One more year...lets see....so far, im not convinced...but hell, dont go for the JETS..!!!

Green Bay V Steelers....go Cheeseheads..!

Hope Jets suffer multiple ACL tears to 6 players

I'm not saying Hennes the answer but Sanchez is NOT that much better then he is and the stats prove it. I do agree, down with the JETS and go Packers. I also agree our front office can't draft to save their lives(pg 9 @6:43). Get O-line in FA. FA QB as well. HEck...lets get Vince Young. He'll fit right in with the rest of this disfucnctional situation thats been created. What FA is going to want to come to Miami. VY may be it.

Look real close when you are judging the rb's numbers.Ronnie had a 51 yard run and Ricky had a 45 yrd run.Take their longest run away from each and Ronnie doesn't have a 3.7 yrd avg he has a 3.4 AVG.Ricky goes from 4.2 to 3.9 yrds per carry.Draft a big f-ing lineman.I prefer a center, move Richie I back to guard and look for R tackle and move Carey to R guard.Fix this problem and both running game and passing game will be better.Keeps Henne from having to pass so much, if they are chewing up ground yards and clock. Can't run if their are no holes to run thru, can't pass and/or pass long if their is no time to get set to fire a bomb.FIX THE OLINE FIRST SECOND THIRD!!!!

What on earth could make Las Vegas think that NYJ can beat the Steelers? The only thing I can think of is that great Jets offensive line that could control Harrison & Co. We'll see.

Good point Sully...id take a chance with VY...where not going anywhere anyway...

Maybe he will surprise?

Id go ORTON myself...but if they rely on HENNE...i think theyre sunk...

Henne also may surprise....but Ive seen nothing startling with Henne to date...

Armando...no new post?....c'mon man...we needs it....bad....pain....arrggghhh

It wasn't Offerdahl I was referring to, GulfD, some other MLB 1st pick from Nebraska or Oklahoma. He didn't last long in the League.

There is nothing wrong with 10 pages(or twenty for that matter) as long as the chatting remains interesting. Football does not revolve around the Dolphins.

Steelers beat Cryin Ryan and the Fott Fetish Gang :) Dirty Sanchez rips his ACL and retires to do gay cover shoots for GQ magazine

Some of us here advocating the dire need for the Oline see there is no other way to creat and sustain a great offense.

Most agree that the FA takes out alot of the question-marks when determining the good from the bad. But somebody took the chance and drafted the rookie, that is now a pro bowler.

Furthermore, when some of us suggest using a 1st round pick to strenghten that Oline, you may not have read the earlier (pages and pages ago) debate about using a single draft choice -coupled with trades, etc., etc. - to our advantage.

Hell, a 1st round draft slot is worth its weight in gold if used correctly. If not, you wind up with a bucket of snot.

And alot of folks here harp about our poor draft choices - then insist on drafting for this unproven or that unproven.

I say we should scrap the conventional ideas regarding the draft, and try a different approach.

Try and comprehend what we could do with that 1st round if you're as savey, as say, Donald Trump? The equations are practically unlimited.

You could get the Proven FA & a couple middle rounds - where some of the best interior players are being drafted. And still have plenty of draft-board to work with. You can trade those too for FA.

No, it makes little sense to draft a Olineman at #15, when you likely can aquire that same player in the 3rd...which opportunity exists because you killed two birds (maybe more if you're Trump) with one stone.

I do not critize anyone posting here. I just put my spin on things in hopes that some of it leaks back to the FO some how.

Occasionally, I'll pitch in some humor just to keep others in mirth.

But one thing is for certain, I'll never abandon my Dolphins. Haven't for 40 years, and never will.

Gotta get back to the boat...

We've all been raped by the no doubt plumpy member of who Bill Parcells.

At the end of the day the Fins will have to lay down some more draft choices. The draft will happen regardless of CBA.

I don't think they can afford to go round up a bunch of GREAT FA's as they nailed two big ticket items last year in Marshall and Dansby. Both were nice additions and Marshall should put up better numbers with better designs on his offensive play package. Having your 40 million dollar WR go out and do an 8 yard button hook and then get drilled in the back is not a wise plan. Much like the times when we see Bess on a go pattern...come on Henning?

I say do EVERYTHING to snag a FA QB. I vote Orton, VY or Flynn in that order. They all have talent enough to relegate Henne to the pine. Tony Sparano and Crew have a 1 year window to improve and they know it. A FA QB can help drive the bus today. All the FA QBs have some issue or the other. We need to have the QB competition be a ferocious battle with the end result being better play...period! Those that say VY is a head case or other shortcomings. Consider Marshall was chuck full of baggage with on and off the field issues and Incognito was a rage filled maniac that couldn't keep it to together on the field.

Both Marshall and Incognito faired ok. Sometimes a change of venue grows people up...Cutler has transformed and gotten better. He was a bar guy, head strong and an INT machine in Denver. Seems fine in Chi-town.

I would take the QB race one step further and grab QB Colin Kaepernick from the Wolfpack of Nevada. Great overall skill set and perfect groomer (4rth rounder maybe?)

That would cover the QB upgrade slate for now.

I am not sold on RB Ingram. I know some are really behind him. I would not begin to bash their choice as the guy may end up doing great things. It is just very hard for me to go after a an "Emmitt Smith" type when we are really craving massive pop and explosion in the offense as it is. Ingram is a lot of things but dynamic is not a word I would use.

Right now i am thinking slide back some if possible to recoup the 2nd rounder or gain an extra 3rd.

I would target C/G Mike Pouncey. I simply think he is one heck of a player that can upgrade our O-line. Yes I know Sparano should have already built the line etc. I just think that Pouncey has great long term upside and in that area of the mid to late 1st round there are not tons of guys that are jumping out at me as a value.

If we have a enough lineman that can hold their mud then it will make ANY QB we have back there better.

If they can snag a FA QB such as Orton or VY and double down and rope in G Mankins as well that would be a killer 1-2 for FA's.

They could go after the 6'8" 320+lbs OT Carmini(spell chk) from Wisconsin and put him in the RT slot. V Carey could then compete with Jerry for the G spot opposite Mankins with Incognito anchoring at Center with a full camp under his belt. That line would certainly have the bulk and girth the Bifecta is always looking for.

We need to go offense in the draft and FA start with 2 QBs one by way of Draft the other a starter by way of FA

1.QB and start grooming him Cam Newton
2.WR (Fast Very Fast that can catch the ball and start asap)
3.RB ( Fast very fast 3rd down back)

1.QB starter
2.RB starter
3.Special Teams

Killerdolphin I just can't drafted any better myself

Ray let's hope Tweedledee (Sparano)and Tweedledum (Ierland) recieve our suggestions...

I actually think Cam Newton has skills. After the Pat White debacle AND the fact that the short leash would end up being a noose if the Bifecta wiffed on another scrambling project QB, I just can't see how TS and Ireland have the stones to grab Newton.

The upside is well documented huge. The trouble is that he would be a running style QB and those types are hard pressed to survive the entire season.

You could ge a QB that already has lots of Winning NFL experience and great movement skills in VY. Newton has some baggage from college and would be hard pressed to make a splash in 2011 (assuming there is one).

I say the Fins go the FA QB route and maybe get another QB later in the draft. An interesting pickup would be Wisconsin QB Scott Tolzien as a late round flyer. He has a presence about him and nice accuracy. Plays within his limitations.

I would target QB Colin Kaepernick. A project with nifty upside and physical tools.

Dang! It's already 1am. Gotta get up tomorrow.

Cheers killerdolphin

this is going to be one helluve offinse to watch! i hope i can stay awake, that doesn't matter anyway i'm not buying season tickets any more.TAKING MY GRANDCHILDERN FISHING after 29 years i have had enough of this crap.

We sign a running backs coach and a new strength

Yeah Armando the Dolphins need more picks than they have. Simply because Parcells screwed up many of his 2nd and 3rd round picks. Pat White, Patrick Turner, and Chad Henne will make the team as a backup. Thanks Parcells, you did a horrible with talent acquisition.
