Dolphins, Sparano will talk contract 'adjustment'

And now it is time for the other shoe to drop.

With the Dolphins and their ownership turning their attention back to keeping Tony Sparano as the club's head coach, the idea now is to find peace within the ranks before presenting a calm, happy, united front before the media in a press conference that is planned for today but whose exact time has not yet been determined.

Well, to get that family portrait just right the Dolphins must make coach Tony Sparano a happy camper. And after a week in which ownership said some things and did others, kept Sparano employed but also sought ways to replace him, bringing the coach back to a state of joy is going to require some hard work.

And that is the work that is happening at this hour.

A source in the ownership group tells me the team is working on ways to soothe things over by, among other things, discussing the "adjustment of Sparano's contract."

I suppose in regular everyday English that means the Dolphins are going to talk with Sparano's agent Jimmy Sexton about some sort of contract extension or pay raise or some guarantees of some sort.

I also have been told some of the conversation in today's meetings are supposed to involve Sparano's coaching staff. I reported to you Thursday that offensive coordinator Dan Henning and the team have parted ways. So, obviously, names of possible replacements might be a topic as well as the job security of various other assistants.

All of Miami's assistants are under contract for 2011.

Another topic that would have to be broached is the relationship between Sparano and general manager Jeff Ireland. They were once joined at the hip. They were part of a trio, including Bill Parcells, that was supposed to turn the Dolphins into champions.

Well, Ireland disconnected from Sparano in recent weeks and found a way to find favor with ownership that Sparano did not. And Ireland was on that team that went to California to seek out Jim Harbaugh as a possible replacement for Sparano.

So there are some frayed feelings there. No, the relationship is not broken. But it definitely is different now. There are issues there now.

Those issues have to be addressed.

This is probably not going to be a one-sided conversation. So perhaps ownership will have items it also wants to vent about to Sparano.

I would be careful about venting too much, however. Otherwise, that happy family portrait the Dolphins are hoping to unveil later today might not look quite right ... or might not get unveiled at all.

THE FINS TITANIC HAS ALREADY SUNK SOME TIME AGO ,NOW WE NEED TO RESCUE IT FROM THE DEEP BY GETTING MR ROSS A GOOD SPORT ADVISOR TO DIRECT HIM TO MAKING GOOD DECISIONS AND DON'T LOOSE ALL THE FANS IN MIAMI ;)

bill_cnnrs, that's a bunch of bullshyt ur sprouting now. Big time players will come down here for the money, no income tax and South Beach all day long. Don't matter who the coach is

How are we the joke of the NFL? Didn't 14 teams finish worse than us this year? What does that make them? Ask fans in Buffalo what it's like to miss the playoffs every year. Talk to a fan of Detroit. They were ECSTATIC to finish 6-10 this year. A little perspective please people.

exactly dying. and theres a report out there that cowher would of taken the job, all ross had to do was fire ireland. i might of broke my hand last night when i heard they were keeping this garbage.

5 million for a collage coach who never won any thing and billichek is making 7.5 million with 3 SB ..HOW IS THAT 5 MILLION CHEAP ?

bobby, WHICH FA can turn this disaster around? Unless it's someone like Michael Vick, there IS no turning this around.

The Pats are 14-2, with a bunch of ROOKIES. They have 3 picks in the top 33 in the draft. These guys are reloading while we're all playing with our frank 'n' beans.

Jets, they got their QB. They got their o. They got their d. More importantly, they have a SYSTEM. So when the cap comes down on them, they'll survive. They'll grab some other guys and put them in the system and go BACK to the Playoffs.

Us, we'll be chillin' on the short bus, fighting over who's more to blame, the QB Coach or the Waterboy.

It's a JOKE! Miami is going backwards. Here we were, at the beginning of the season, talking about creating a dynasty. Now, I just hope we can win 7 games next year (really I don't, if that's the case I'd rather lose 'em all, but you see my point). Other teams are full steam ahead, we're going backwards.

I live in DC. I have the package. I'll be able to see the travesty unfold every week. You folks in South Florida, well, come to the blog and I'll give you the play-by-play.

ok here is a different outlook (with no support for or against anyway) just what I have witnessed.

Parcells places Sparano as HC of the dolphins, but he has no real power or say since he was saddled with Ireland and Henning; just like Chad Henne wasn't able to change plays (like Brandon Marshall wanted) due to Henning and David Lee, Sparano couldn't have fired Henning if he wanted to.

Sparano takes a talentless team that went 1-15 to 11-5, 7-9, 7-9 (25-23) with players Ireland and Parcells gave him with a little luck; this record on the surface screams of mediocrity, but considering what he had to work with he did an adequate job (not outstanding).

Now you want the coach you wanted to replace with some big name to come back and produce; my question is 1. are you going to let him have input into the OC or will you let Ireland saddle him with someone so you can scapegoat him if Ireland fails to produce in the draft. 2. Will you let him have input into players to be drafted or will Ireland be held responsible and scapegoat TS if he misses.

So to sum up the 2010 season (just my opinion) in 2009 we ranked 17 or 18 in total offense we didn't draft any offensive players with the exception of Jon Jerry and only brought in Brandon Marshall; we constantly shuffled the line and got rid of players that helped us to the 4th ranked rushing team in 2009. So how could you expect any other result than what we saw.

Well under who's vision will the offensive rebuild begin and who is calling the shots? Something still very strange about this new trifecta. And Craig you understand Mangini was a defensive coord?

Jeff D come on man!! People do this sh*t to each other all the time countless relationships deal infidelty Sparano will take it cause no one else will ever give him a head coaching job is he go's out like this

Ross- I call this meeting to order...

Sparano/Castanza- Sir, From now on I want to be referred to as T-Bone...

ANY BLOGGER WHO WRITES MORE THAN 7 LINES AND THINKING WE READ IT ,IS FOOLING HIMSELF .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SPARANO
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

yeah bobbyd what joey porter? pennington or a qb looking for one more shot? get real man. everyone knows how big of a mess this is now. u think any free agent guys on offense would ever come to this garbage team and play with henne or this bs oline. or a wr after seeing what happened to marshalls numbers? for some reason u cant face reality

Bobby, you're killing me man! LOL

No O coordinator in his RIGHT mind would come to Miami to be a part of this circus. LOL Big time FA's coming? How did Dansby & Marshall work out this year?

Up until last season, they didn't even think the O was a problem! No one in their right minds would have traded for Marshall if they thought the offense had to be scrapped. These guys are incompetent.

Sparano wasn't even the guy they even wanted, how is him staying a good thing? He probably has even LESS say than he did in previous years.

But, if you consider constant rebuilding of the Offense, defense & Special teams as being good, then we are set! YAY!

Miami looks like a laughing stock. Strike that, rephrase. WE ARE A LAUGHING STOCK LOL

Craig M. Don't even bother. All these guys are like little kids who are upset because things didn't go their way. Now they wanna take their ball, go home and tell everyone how they shoulda listened to them. I feel like getting out a tissue box for this blog. Wahhh, I want my team to lose cause I didn't get my way. Wahhh, no one will come here cause I didn't get my way.....wahhh no one listened to me. Well FU@K em...Jump to another team or cry to someone who gives a shyt, like mommy. IM HAPPY!!!

BILL-CNNRS............ ROSS'S MONEY IS REAL MONEY ,ASK MARSHALL AND GROVER .

Are this people having a mental break down ? Tony Sparano has been destoryed. The fans and players no longer have any respect for him, there is no way they can keep him, giving him an extra year so he won't be a one year lame duck is CRAZY !!!!!!!!!! So his a two year lame duck. This is unbelieveable !!!!

So Bill Connors,

Let's see....you were wrong about Sparano being gone. You were wrong about Irleand being gone. You're going to be wrong about no OC wanting to come here. You're going to be wrong about no FA's wanting to come here. And you're going to be wrong that this franchise is finished. Want to try something else?

Are you really related to Joe or just the same person posting? Seriously guys why don't you give it up.....find another team! Nothing can be this important. This stuff is making you miserable!! Go with the masses and support the Pats or the Steelers...you'll be less disappointed.

Both those teams BEAT US!!!!!!!!!!!!! JESUS!

It's being reported that the media session was cancelled. Not a Joke!

Bill,

'What happened to Marshall's numbers'. Didn't he go over a 1,000 yards despite missing two and a half games? I'd say that's pretty good! Get him in the right offence, with a consistent running game and an OC that knows how to use him and it's a whole different story this year. Oh yeah, a little chemistry with the QB wouldn't hurt either.

bobby, you can say F*** 'em if you want, but people asked you straight-up questions. We all provided proof as to why this could just be the beginning of a long and losing battle.

What's your evidence? Name some names? What FA could come here and single-handedly have a positive effect on the team?

With what system? Under who's conservative game-planning? I don't hear crying, I hear whistleblowers, trying to sound the warning before Armageddon.

Joe S,

Yeah it's bad dude. But Free agents will still come to Miami for one reason, money. Players always go for the money. Miami will have to land a prize again in FA to save the ticket sales.

I agree with people about Stephen Ross's comparisons to Dan Snyder. He is going to have to make that move again even if he overpays, AGAIN.

bobbyd ur missing the point. we wont ever jump to another team, we have passion and want to finally win again. its fans like u who accept this bs that keeps them from having to actually do something about. go ahead and brag again about how much u spend on tickets. nobody cares, it just shows how clueless u are to keep wasting money on a garbage product. u might as well keep paying to see the movie freddie got fingered, keep doing it but its never gonna get better until us the fans make them. ur sitting here saying u think sparano is the right guy, thats hilarious. anyone can tell u hes a lameduck and next year is a waste

Phin for life......... what destroyed ? you r destroyed .no one get destroyed when they make 3 million plus a year .

(( IT'S ONLY BUSINESS MIKE,ONLY BUSINESS )),,,,QUOTE FROM THE GODFATHER.

Armando and Dave Hyde reporting the meeting and media session was cancelled!!!!

Hold on!!!!

Mangini? Really?

Not only classless, but clueless!

Don't recall when Jason Garret left, but didn't everyone believe he went to Dallas basically to replace Wade when he would surely fall short?

Maybe we get an OC who figures there is a damn good shot of becoming HC, two years max.

I'd like them to hire Tom Cable. Both he and Sparano got screwed by they're employers, I think they'd form a winning bond and give everyone the finger.

The Dolphin situation is simple. Get an Offensive Coordinator who can put some life into the offense. A boring offense would work if the Dolphins win. Boring and not winning just does not work. Dan Henning is gone and goodby because he caused this whole situation with a boring offense that could not put points on the board. Field goals only does not work. The situation was also created because Parcells and regime did a horrible job in bringing in offensive skill players. Mistakes; Pat White, Patrick Turner, Chad Henne etc...How can anyone blame owner Ross from righting the Dolphin ship after being kept out of operations because he promised Parcells that he would not get involved.

I wish I was a fly on the wall in those meeting rooms. I bet a lot of yelling is going on. This is like a bad twilight zone episode.

I'm out guys!!....it's the weekend, your not going to drag me down!! Happy to see Tony back and Henning gone!!

Bill and Joe, I'll check in with you once the OC has landed and we can talk about how no OC will come work for a 'lame-duck coach'.

See ya boys!!

Bobby, about big name FA's. Please tell us, since we must have missed it.

What did Dansdby & Marshall help us do this year?

If we traded 2 picks for Mrshall, doesn't that tell you they didn't think the offense needed to be scrapped? Maybe just fine tuned?

These guys are SO inept, I don't know what else they need to fail at to make you see it for what it is.

Don't you think a good coach should be able to see these things coming & stop them from getting so far gone? Good coaches don't need to rebuild 2/3 of the team that is only 1 year old in TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS!!!!

Talkabout little kids! You can tell them 1 hundred times to not touch a hot stove but when they do, they always get burned.

Ross canceled today's meeting as a few minutes ago! What do you make of this????

martin u serious??

I AM SORRY TO SAY TO ALL THESE BLOGGERS WHO WANTS TONY SPARANO GONE TO SATISFAY THIER EGOS AND HATE FOR THE MAN ,HE WILL STAY ,WORK HARD FOR HIS TEAM AND WHEN HE GOES TO THE PLAYOFFS YOU WILL BE THE FIRST TO CHEER .

Bill Dead Serious Armando and Dave Hyde just reported it! WTF

craig i was wrong about them being gone, but not cause they didnt want them gone. and craig m u ripped me in september also when i told u this was an 8-8 team at best. looks like i was right there. told u this offense was awful in spetember. u forget the times when people u like to get personal with are right.

espn reported haurbaugh to 49ers 5yrs 25mm.

well martin honestly we dont know anymore. it could mean anything from him being sick to him having another change of mind as the dolphins turn goes on, hilarious

That right Tony...take the money and STFU....

Be a good Soldier Tony.......

You have been doing it your Whole life Tony....why should this be any different......

Well.....

In TONY WE TRUST!!!

Its always better when you have to settle for your 5th choice.....

Miami's four wins next year: Buffalo, Washington, Denver, Oakland.

losses: Chiefs, San Diego, NE twice, Houston, Cleveland, Philadelphia, NY Giants, Cowboys, Jets (twice), Buffalo.

NEWS CONFERENCED CXLD. SPARANO MAYBE QUITING? SPARANO THE NEW HERO OF THE NFL!

THE MEETING WS BETWEEN HIM AND MANIGNI

Here's the history:

Houston - terrible team at first. Acquired players. Got an elite offense (QB, RB, WR). Now just found their last piece (DC) and ready for battle.

Detroit - laughingstock of the NFL. Changed HC. Acquired players. Got a soon-to-be elite offense (QB, RB, WR). Working on defense, soon to be armed for battle.

Rams - see Detroit.

Dolphins - Most wins for a team as of late 90's. Highly competitive franchise. Lost franchise QB. Fell....kept falling....didn't retool....draft/FA mistakes....team in flux....BROKE OUT FOR 1 YEAR...back to being in flux!

Bobby/Craig, where does the optimism come from? That's the honest-to-God history. I want to be like you guys, so help me out, tell me where to find hope from?

I'd you want to be positive about this, anybody over 40 realizes our best learning was after we made our biggest mistakes. Ireland and sparano both have that opportunity now. Forget Ross. He won't choose or coach a player, so we just have to hope a man not use to public embarrassment got the message.

Ireland can strt to value a clean medical history, speed and intelligence. Not just moms employment history. Deal straight with his players. Tony needs to back away from the numbers/odds of the game, otherwise setup up a fantasy team. He needs to drop this speaking trait of talking around both sides of issues. If it sounds evasive the limited amount of time we hear him speak, think of effect it has on players who are routinely (and customarily) treated the way he has been these past couple weeks. Leaders make followers and believers. Make your players believe in their talent.

Quit stirring the pot with your roster. Unless there is an obviously drastic improvement in a change don't do it. Let guys develop. They will all respect you for it and put themselves out there without you asking.

I have lead men in dangerous personal circumstances. Believe me leading by authority with out ability to pursued will get you no where.

I have been fin fan ever since a kid watching Griese throw it against Namath and grogan from The end zone of the O bowl. Could never not be a fan. But my heart is broken by this group. Losses happen, but the way we have been losing and the mistakes 2 minute drills, inability to adjust, not what you expect from peo regime.

aloco is dumb as a rock but hilarious sometimes. i spit my mt dew out

DC, they are blinded by the reflection from Tonys sunglasses.

THE DOLPHINS WERE READY TO HIRE MINGINI UNTIL LAST SECOND ,THEY CHANGED THEIR MIND

oh i agree craig m is either a woman or a jets fan. guy is so far from being normal its scary

Sounds like this will be the LA dolphins in 2012 or 2013. This is not good at all.

Im out all try and have a good night with this disaster.

bill,

Just wondering if there was some serious fallout shrapnel from this? Lots of egos and back stabbing. Parcells, Peterson, Harbaugh, Cowher, Gruden, Ross, Sparano, Henning, Nolan?

Lots of Testosterone in these meetings and Hallways?

Anybody on here spoting of about this being a WIN need to really think.....THIS BLOG...OR THE DOLPHINS FOR THAT MATTER SHOUDN'T BE ABOUT WHO IS RIGHT OR WRONG....It should be about who WHAT IS BEST FOR THIS ORGANIZATION....PERIOD.

If you think that Tony is best for this Organization...well then good gor you....The Boss thinks he is about the 5th best choice for this team.....lets hope the BOSS is wrong

IN TONY WE TRUST!!

There are, by my count, 3 adamant supporters. The rest seem to either want him gone or not care either way.

What the 3 refuse to do though, is explain the reason for optimism. Where does it come from? Try to rationalize the points allot of us have made. No one has touched or even tried to debate them.

Yet, the war cry is to keep them. Whaddya gonna do?

Now we hear that the Dolphins Owners Group just canceled their 4:45 Press Meeting...

Why ??

BECAUSE THEY'RE

C L U E L E S S !!!!!

some huge egos no doubt

Now there's only 1 solution to this mess, Franchise QB. Whether it's this year, next, next, or 20 years from now, until we get our Franchise QB, we'll be waffling and unstable.

Now that would be funny, if Tony quit. I doubt it though, who walks away from 3 mill guaranteed!

No bill_cnnrs, see I get to see NFL Football every Sunday it is played here. I get to see the stars of the NFL. I get to spend time tailgating and partying and enjoying myself with friends. My relatives and friends come down and we spend the weekend playing golf, drinking and enjoying ourselves. Your whole life may revolve around if the Dolphins win, mine doesnt. I will continue to enjoy going to NFL games and paying my tickets, and I could give a two shyts less what you or anyone else thinks.

SPARANO SHOULD HAVE HIS OWN TV SHOW. "EVERYONE LOVES SPARANO! LOL............
