ESPN: Harbaugh not so likely to Miami

If God had wanted me to be a play-by-play man he would have sent me down here with a wonderful baritone voice instead of my current voice that only gets me by on my now highly rated (apparently) Armando and the Amigo radio show.

The point  -- aside from a shameless plug -- is that play-by-play is not my favorite.

But here, the Dolphins are in a coaching search and you readers are a beast that must be fed. So I feel compelled to throw every available nugget of information down your collective throats. And that means giving you the play-by-play of things happening as we know them.

So what nugget can you chew on this hour?

ESPN's Adam Schefter, the best information man in the business, is reporting he doesn't think Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh will end up with the Dolphins. How's that for a hearty meal?

Schefter tweeted moments ago he likes San Francisco today as the landing spot for Harbaugh. "Not Miami, not Oakland, not Carolina, not Denver."

That nugget lodged in your throat now?

This, of course, does not mean the Dolphins chase of Harbaugh is over or a failure. Schefter did give himself wiggle room, saying he likes San Francisco for Harbaugh "today." And tomorrow is another day.

But if the story stays the same and Harbaugh does land the San Francisco job that is located 21 miles from his current address, that means Tony Sparano will likely return to the Dolphins for his fourth season unless another star candidate suddenly emerges.

[UPDATE: ESPN is reporting Harbaugh is meeting with San Francisco later today.]

A notable aside: Today the Michigan job came open. Athletics Director Dave Brandon said Harbaugh is not a candidate at Michigan because he "is headed to the NFL." And Brandon specifically referred to Habaugh dealing with a "billionaire."

Miami owner Stephen Ross is a billionaire. San Francisco owner Jed York? He's now part of the DeBartolo family and his mom Denise is estimated to be worth $900 million.

But what's $100 million give or take, right?

If dolphins don't sign any new coach I will promote MIKE NOLAN AMD HIRE THE BEST OC THAT MONEY CAN BUY AND SIGN VINCE YOUNG, WHICH IS BETTER THAN HENNE! I THOUGHT THAT IRELAND WAS BUDDY WITH SPARANO HOPE ROSD TURNS AROUND AMD FIRES HIM AND BRINGS HIS BUDDY IN MR PETERSON I WILL LAUGH MY A S S OFF!!

DB, alex smith is a free agent. he laughed when he was asked if he'd remain a niner. He's gone

I don't doubt for a second Harbaugh and his agent may just be using Miami for leverage here. It's definitely possible.

He may also simply prefer to stay out there regardless of the kind of $$ Ross wants to throw his way. It's not as if he'd be on skid row with whatever San Fran is offering (which I'm sure is very considerable).

Ross can't win with all the fans here, folks. No matter WHAT he does...no matter what direction...he'll get blasted by some. But if it's change you want at the HC position you certainly can't accuse him of standing pat and twiddling his thumbs.

An owner who flies across the country and is willing to spend that kind of money is not sitting around in a daze wondering what to do, regardless of whether or not it's ultimately the RIGHT choice or will even work.

Vince Young should go to San Fran so he can play catch with Ted Ginn. They can wear snuggies, drink Starbucks all day, and cry about how meen the fans are towards them.

Very wrong ALoco.

Exact same chances of landing Luck at #7, #15, and #255.

0%.

Panthers have said they're taking Luck if he comes out and won't trade the pick for anything.

SF picks 13th unless they trade Aloco. Abs Seer, great flick that lebowski

COWKILLA ,

IS A PROUD MEMBER OF THE EVIL SQUDE AND JR MEMBER OF THE GANG OF DEFEAT .

Plenty of retread options at QB. Henne's as cheap a stopgap QB as any of them.

Draft 2-3 rookies and throw next season away on them. Without a franchise QB there's no point in winning.

Aloco is the man-bride of Mr Home...Mr and Mr Aloco-Home I present you

If this deal goes down, Ross still has to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

Does what I mentioned before about possibly interviewing Hue Jackson in Oakland make sense to folks? Anyone else?

Ross is a friggen moron! Sat on his butt doing nothing waiting around while coaches don't come available or turn him down. Now he has got himself stuck in the mud and going to kiss arse Harbo in Cali because otherwise he is stuck with TS and that relationship is history. Ross is a lazy dumb fuh and blew it. He takes more action in red carpet sheet than serious stuff, luny...he should have bought a chucky cheese instead!

Craig M,

No question Young is an upgrade to Henne but so are at least 75% of the rest of nfl qb's.

Still there are several problems with Young. To secure him we have to trade for him. Trading for him involves giving up good value for a qb that's had both boneheaded on the field and off the field problems. Plus, Young was a 1st rd qb so right now his salary's far greater than Henne and maybe only a slight upgrade to Henne as far as passing the ball.

Then there's if he's released he has to clear waivers problem. This is probably the most likely scenario unless someone wants to pick up a big contract, get a potential problem child, and only get a middle of the pack grade qb to boot. Young will not clear waivers long enough to fall into our laps for nothing.

Plus the baggage he bringswith him, financially and emotionally are not even close to being worthy of giving up anything of value for what has so far been a middle of the pack qb at best. Young is not a franchise qb.

I'm not a member Aloco..I am the evil squid

ALoco:

You are a Fifth Columist---posing as an Enemy of the Gang of Defeat while surreptiously advancing their cause!

Double Agent ALoco!!

COWKILLA, SF PICK AT NO 7 ..GO AND CHECK IT.DET WILL PICK AT 13

DyingBreed - Titans said they're going to cut Young February 7th.

If we sign harbaugh and we finish worst than 7-9 next year which is real possibility, sparano will be laughing his ass off. I know I would.

"According to the collective bargaining agreement, if any waiver of a veteran player who has completed the season that gives him four years of service occurs between February 1st and the trading deadline in mid October, then that player shall be considered an unrestricted free agent by termination of his contract"

IT'S AMAZING I AM TALKING TO FEW NAMES BUT SAME PERSON WHO'S A PROUD MEMBER OF THE GANG OF DEFEAT .

Boulder,

If they land Harbaugh Alex Smith will probably change his mind and stay. Who knows, Harbaugh maybe insisting a guarantee Smith stays as part of the deal.

Dr. Roberts--

all your posts have been reasonable & persuasive. What the EFF are you doing here!!?!

:>)

Rooney rule thing is a sticky wicket, pointed out by Florio at PFT---Ross'll have to fire TS, comply w/ Rooney, THEN hire Harbaugh.

expect a fine & a stern lecture from Nanny Goodelll.

SOME ARE PULL INTO THE GANG OF DEFEAT AND THE EVIL SQUID ...AND I KNOW WHO it ((rEALLY )) WAS FROM BEFORE WHEN I TALKED ABOUT DR SPOCK COMING TO WARN ABOUT THE HYENEA COWER.

HARBAUGH NOT A DUMB PERSON ,WHY WOULD I COME AND FIGHT FOR MY LIFE VS BRADY AND CO AND THE JETS AND NOT STAY WEST WHERE I CAN GO TO THE PLAYOFFS WITH A RECORF OF 7-9 ?

ALoco wants a Golden-Cowher Reign over football in Miami.

Run Ricky Run,

You forget one thing. If Vince Young is cut theres no way he'll clear waivers long enough to fall to us. If cut the big contract is out of the way and he's signed for peanuts basically. What team in front of us do you think wouldnt pounce at that? LOL..........

Seer---LOL (thanks)

Agreed this would be almost Keystone Kops stuff to satisfy the Rooney Rule (if it happens with Harbaugh) but "rules is rules."

Just figured the Hue Jackson scenario might make sense since Team Dolphin is already out there and he's not some COMPLETELY obscure name---even if it was all a charade.

Ricky, that's exactly why they wouldnt cut him until after Feb 1st. That's exactly why Young hasnt been released today! LOL...............

BIRTHDAY OF VINCE YOUNG;;;;;;

MAY/13/1943

Where did you see that Harbaugh doesn't want to coach with us because of bellichek and brady?! I find that hard to believe that a potential coch of any team said he was scared of another!

Not the biggest Vince Young fan in the world (I definitely sided with Fisher on that) but after the Eagles experience with Vick I think you'd find more than a few teams willing to gamble on him at the right price.

It's a copycat league.

I SAW IT I BELIEVE ON THE BLEACHER REPORT THAT HE SAID ,HE'S NOT GOING TO WASTE 4 YEARS OF HIS LIFE FIGHTING BRADY AND BILICHECK .

Since Titans would still be on the hook for any unpaid guaranteed money. They will wait to cut Young to shop him around and see if any fools out there are willing to offer any kind of value. Can you blame them, they at least gotta give it a shot. LOL...............

They'll wait to cut him because they legally have to but once he's cut after Feb. 7th he's a free man - there's no waivers to clear, he can go wherever he wants.

Dolphins will just have to outbid the rush of teams that will be clamoring for his services.

-------------------

He's looking remarkably good for a 67-year-old man.

Must be true what they say..."Black Don't Crack."

Vick's situation's entirely different from Young. Philly only had to offer Vick the vet minimum. Absolute peanuts. Plus, absolutely no one else either wanted Vick or were scared to death of signing him because of the public heat coming with it. LOL..............

PFT REPORTING ,MR ROSS WAS SEEN RUNING AFTER HARBAUGH ON THE GOLF COURSE GREEN ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE COACH'S HOME .

DB---I recognize the difference with Vick.

Just saying I wouldn't expect Young to just languish out there on the open market very long. He'll get another shot to get it going elsewhere in pretty short order.

Whether he does or not remains the open question.

Damn Huizenga! Screwed us one last time selling the team to a now 70yr old geritol chugger. LOL....................

DR.ROBERTS...FIN FANS IN LOVE WITH OLD,VERY OLD QB'S LIKE CHAD.P .

Before coming here maybe everything Huizenga touched turned to gold. But since he became Dolphins owner everything he touched turned to garbage. Including selling the team to Ross! LOL.............

HARBAUGH................ 8 MILLION .????????????????????????????????????????

They should have interviewed Bowels this past Monday. I hope that bozo Ireland has a good plan to get em out of this nightmare. We already know his perception of African Americans!

This one will truly be a "money talks, bitchez" type of event.

Ya get the feeling the missus wants to stay by the Bay, tjhat John thinks 9ers job is attractive, but//////////////

Highest Paid? Where do I sign. Mr. Ross.

If he sez no, Ross will be taken to cleaners by someone, or at least look rather foolish.

@erocku:

Ireland's Rooney plan is pray real hard the fine ain't too high, or do your suggested Oakland drive-by.

Seer,
Dr. Roberts posted that idea about Oakland. I thought it was pretty smooth(what's the chances bozo is that fast on his feet) I thought I heard a fine could also be accompanied with loss of a draft pick? Is there any truth to it. The higher ups gotta be thinking any interview of a black coach is all shenanigans at this point!

Hey, for that matter I doubt Shula ever got much above 500-600 grand a year.

Football numbers are crazy these days, to be sure, but it's the insane TV money that has led to this.

Hell $7 million in California is like $9 million in Miami. That's what Ross needs to sell him on. Let him know his $7 million in Miami is worth $7 million not $5 million.

Hell he gains $2 million in value taking our $7 million over California's debunked down to $5 million, $7 million. I thought Ross was a salesman. It's now obvious he isnt. Basically he's increased the offer to $3.5 million more than Frisco when you compare monetary values of the two states( Cali/Fla).

Aloco did you nudge home while he was sleeping to tell him the breaking news!
