ESPN: Harbaugh not so likely to Miami

If God had wanted me to be a play-by-play man he would have sent me down here with a wonderful baritone voice instead of my current voice that only gets me by on my now highly rated (apparently) Armando and the Amigo radio show.

The point  -- aside from a shameless plug -- is that play-by-play is not my favorite.

But here, the Dolphins are in a coaching search and you readers are a beast that must be fed. So I feel compelled to throw every available nugget of information down your collective throats. And that means giving you the play-by-play of things happening as we know them.

So what nugget can you chew on this hour?

ESPN's Adam Schefter, the best information man in the business, is reporting he doesn't think Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh will end up with the Dolphins. How's that for a hearty meal?

Schefter tweeted moments ago he likes San Francisco today as the landing spot for Harbaugh. "Not Miami, not Oakland, not Carolina, not Denver."

That nugget lodged in your throat now?

This, of course, does not mean the Dolphins chase of Harbaugh is over or a failure. Schefter did give himself wiggle room, saying he likes San Francisco for Harbaugh "today." And tomorrow is another day.

But if the story stays the same and Harbaugh does land the San Francisco job that is located 21 miles from his current address, that means Tony Sparano will likely return to the Dolphins for his fourth season unless another star candidate suddenly emerges.

[UPDATE: ESPN is reporting Harbaugh is meeting with San Francisco later today.]

A notable aside: Today the Michigan job came open. Athletics Director Dave Brandon said Harbaugh is not a candidate at Michigan because he "is headed to the NFL." And Brandon specifically referred to Habaugh dealing with a "billionaire."

Miami owner Stephen Ross is a billionaire. San Francisco owner Jed York? He's now part of the DeBartolo family and his mom Denise is estimated to be worth $900 million.

But what's $100 million give or take, right?

ANOTHER THING , WOULD HIS WIFE COME W/THEIR KIDS TO ENROLL IN THE PROUD SCHOOL SYSTEM OF FL

erocku:

Just guessing, but I suppose if League pissed enough, they could forfeit A (NOT no.1, no way no how) pick. Not sure & it'd be real harsh.

And I betcha IF Ross makes Harbaugh highest paid, his fellow owners will be pissed & lean on Goodell to punish Fins.

BUT LET's sign him first & then watch the Rooney charade (& btw, I'm not oneof those who belittles the Rooney Rule. It's needed imho).---I still have an "iffy" feeling.

I'm pretty new at posting here (used to do AOL boards a lot but they've really died out) but I goota say this Aloco guy is a trip.

"Chinese Hyena Cowher?" I don't get it but it's funny as hell!

Home and ALoco r not one in the same

Home has been blogging locally in South Florida for 3 years now

Not even 1 year on the Miami Herald

ALoco does not live in South Florida, like Home
and Home is not obsessed with food as is the culinary wizard ALoco

$7 million in California is worth about $9million in Florida in spending power. So basically Ross has offered Harbaugh $10 millions dollars in more spending power over his California $7 million dollar offer. LOL.............

dr roberts do you play chess?

ALoco does not "live" anywhwere, at least not in any conventional sense.

Lots of Great Private schools here ALoco
Dan Marino`s kids go or went to North Broward Preparatory School which boasts 100% placement in Ivy League Colleges and is only a stones throw from Homes house

Education for HardBalls children is a non issue

I freakin' LOVE chess. Hard to find people to play with, though.

We have a manager at work (female) who is insanely good.

Can someone explain the Rooney rule because I thought their is got to be a vacancy the dolphins havnt fire Sparano I havnt heard anything yet, maybe that's why Sparano still has not been fired

HOME.

YOU R RIGHT, I HOPE YOU R WELL .

DR Roberts,

I used to play chess a little on pogo a while back and there was someone there with the screen name Dr Roberts thats why I asked do you play chess. Was that you?

Can someone explain Rooney rule!

danny-

you are right----that's the twist.....if he wants to hire harbaugh, he has to fire sparano = vacancy, then comply w/ Rooney, then ink the deal.

cannot just hire harbaugh & fire sparano & ignore rule totally

Yea maybe Ross is way smarter than us and is saying that he hire. A coordinator so notto break the rules!!

Danny--In THIS particular case (if Harbaugh does indeed sign) the Rooney Rule will obviously be a farce.

What the Dolphins would basically have to do is come to a handshake agreement with JH..THEN fire Tony...THEN go through a perfunctory "interview" with someone like Jackson or perhaps Bowles (even though they'd know damn well what was up)...and then FINALLY be able to make a public announcement regarding Harbaugh.

In theory, though, it was put into practice to help more minority candidates get a foot in the door and at least interview with owners who may never have considered them.

I'm fine with it, even though I doubt there's many owners left dumb enough to not consider the merits of black candidates as much as anyone else.

DB---wasn't me.

I just randomly picked the screen name from the Beatles song (even though there's no "s")

these guys have dug a hole in miami

i love this team and truly hope this is not a repeat of '07

i love to eat cat food .

Just when HardBalls & The 49ers thought the deal was done for Jim & his family to stay in the Bay area and take over the HC job

BAM! $8 million bucks a year

Tells U
Ross wants nice grandpa & warm soup bellied Sparano OUT

WOW!

No expect San Fran to counter with more dough

and the beat goes on

... stay tuned Dolfans

d phin---

'07? you mean the hiring of Saban? That's the analogous event--but wasn't that '06?

Something smells fishy. Ross speaks with Cowher and tells him that he wants Bill as the coach but he has to keep Ireland. Why? What kind of deal did he have with Parcells that Ireland has to stay when Parcells hit the bricks?

Also if you are Ross why would you not clean this mess up by telling Bill Cowher here is 8 million a year for four years. You are Coach, GM and whatever else. Fire and Hire who you want. All I want is your word that you will bring this franchise back so we can compete year in and year out in the AFC for a Championship.

Bill Cowher becomes the Head Coach and GM of the Miami Dolphins and tickets sales will increase and the fan base will forget about 2009-2010.

I just do not understand why this has to be so drawn out. I believe eventually Cowher will land here within the next couple of weeks. He has been the target all along.

You cannot bring Sparano back after the bloodbath he has endured the last few days. He has lost all respect from the players, media and fanbase.

Yup Slippery! Whatever the outcome, and whichever candidate one wants or does not want, the whole damn process has been weird.

More weirdness to come, I betcha!

I don't see how Sparano could come back, either, but I'll always respect him as a thoroughly decent man even if his coaching has been questionable.

The guy wasn't a cretinous weasel like Saban.

As long as we get QB Cam Newton

without a QB
Dolphins go nowhere esp in our division with the Pats

R only shot would be a Wildcard for at least the next 3 years, competing against Bellicheat, Brady and that young awesome Patriots team

Nite dudes! I think I'll just "hibernate" the laptop, so I can do the 3a.m. look in for news of a decision.

Hey==maybe Harbaugh can put together a quickie LeBron style show on NFL net..........Brian Baldinger to host!

Home I had the same thought this aft--

This is a hunt for a wildcard for the next few years.

The QB thing is now indisputable. All the debates about TS, Henning, etc etc can be cured w/ a for real QB. Gotta get one.

I'm out, too.

Tomorrow promises to be an interesting one in the continuing saga of "As The Dolphin Turns."

Seeya fellas...

seer
what i was saying about 07 was
if this thing goes bad
how are we going to be better in 2011 than in 07

Harbaugh left 6-hour meeting with York

Harbaugh left 6-hour meeting with York

Dr. Roberts,
You just made me feel kinda bad for TS! It's really not right at all what were doing to him. The guy you gotta believe put his heart and sole into this organization.

hows that "best man in the business" looking now armando? schefter is a tool and ESPN is a joke. Quick blowing them and come up with your own news. Get better sources than the rest of us have if you are going to report.

Mando, What in the blue hell makes you believe Sparano will be back if Harbaugh doesn't come here??? Why the hell would he after they're openly trying to replace him??

I'm absolutely astounded that none of the posts so far have recognized the amazingly poor job Mr Salguero does as an opinion writer. Your "throat" references are sarcastic and obnoxious. Can you do us all a favor and stick your head in a blender...on High. That'll put us all out of our misery.
Thank you sir. Greatly appreciated!

HERE IS THE LATEST NEWS FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE ANY HOPES FOR THE DOLPHINS:

AS LONG AS THE PATS HAVE THEIR COACH, THE DOLPHINS WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO COMPETE WITH NEW ENGLAND. THERE IS ONLY ONE BELICHEK AND NOONE ELSE IS EVEN CLOSE. THAT NE TEAM IS YOUNG AND ALREADY SET UP FOR ANOTHER 5 YEARS AS A DYNASTY.

Please, Mando, I'm curious...
Ross has said (reportadly) that he wants a "sexy coach." What does that mean.
Are we into sexual orientation capabilities in order to choose the next dolphin coach?
May I ask why?
I thought we had enough of the orange carpet, faded celebrities, Margaritaville... Please, don't let our players parade in drags down the tunnel... It would be disastrous. Even more so.
Why not play football?
Play well, I mean.
I miss Joe Robbie. God bless his soul.

We need to get Cam Newton plus McNabb if the price is right. Get rid of all the ex-Dallas practice squad players and coaches. How can an offensive line coach become overnight a head coach? Only through Papa Parcell.
