ESPN: Harbaugh not so likely to Miami

If God had wanted me to be a play-by-play man he would have sent me down here with a wonderful baritone voice instead of my current voice that only gets me by on my now highly rated (apparently) Armando and the Amigo radio show.

The point  -- aside from a shameless plug -- is that play-by-play is not my favorite.

But here, the Dolphins are in a coaching search and you readers are a beast that must be fed. So I feel compelled to throw every available nugget of information down your collective throats. And that means giving you the play-by-play of things happening as we know them.

So what nugget can you chew on this hour?

ESPN's Adam Schefter, the best information man in the business, is reporting he doesn't think Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh will end up with the Dolphins. How's that for a hearty meal?

Schefter tweeted moments ago he likes San Francisco today as the landing spot for Harbaugh. "Not Miami, not Oakland, not Carolina, not Denver."

That nugget lodged in your throat now?

This, of course, does not mean the Dolphins chase of Harbaugh is over or a failure. Schefter did give himself wiggle room, saying he likes San Francisco for Harbaugh "today." And tomorrow is another day.

But if the story stays the same and Harbaugh does land the San Francisco job that is located 21 miles from his current address, that means Tony Sparano will likely return to the Dolphins for his fourth season unless another star candidate suddenly emerges.

[UPDATE: ESPN is reporting Harbaugh is meeting with San Francisco later today.]

A notable aside: Today the Michigan job came open. Athletics Director Dave Brandon said Harbaugh is not a candidate at Michigan because he "is headed to the NFL." And Brandon specifically referred to Habaugh dealing with a "billionaire."

Miami owner Stephen Ross is a billionaire. San Francisco owner Jed York? He's now part of the DeBartolo family and his mom Denise is estimated to be worth $900 million.

But what's $100 million give or take, right?

I agree with Denny there DB. Our defense is good, just not deep enough. We need to stack them so when Dansby goes out, the entire middle of the field isn't opened up (like against NE). We have a good front 7, and up-n-coming corners, we need some more safety help from players that can actually cover, and some depth at LB.

THE FORCES OF EVIL PREDICTING THE DEFENSE COLLAPSE ...HAAAAAAAAAA

I believe most of us fans on here want to see a change in the head coach- since we've now started to hear the players unloading some of their pent of emotions and comments, I can't believe they would be able to let that all go by and play their guts out for him... I'm with Poizen on this one. Clear the decks and start over...but this time make it work! I like Jeff Fisher whose got some moxy.

Again Not thinking Henne is the answer but:

I just read "Henne's arm is worse than Penne's"

what just happened? Was this for real?

Look, I like the discussion and opinions, but it always seems we morth into the ridiculous.

You can think Henne sucks and a 3rd stringer and all this other crap if you like.

The year before last he showed us some good stuff, and Marshall has come out and said coaches MADE him go through the 5 option progression although our line gave him 3 f'n seconds and was not consistant at all.

A new OC and a different O philosophy can still work with Henne's talents.

AGAIN, I do not know or think he is the answer, but he should be kept here and we should bring in what we think is better.

However I would not be suprised if he is a success in the NFL is a coach or coaches lets the ked play a little more loose.

COWER IS THE SNEAKY WEESEL HYEANA. HE WILL TAKE 70 MILLION DOLLARS FROM MR ROSS AND THEN GO TO THE TROPICLE BAHMAHA ISLANDS AND DRINK RUM FROM A STRAW ALL DAY AND WILL CALL MR ROSS SAYING I WILL FIX EVERY THING DO NOT WORRY ABOUT A THING!

LIKE I SAID BEFORE TODAY THEY SHOULD CALL MR SPOCK AND THE LADY FROM BEWICHED THEY WILL GO INSIDE HYENAE COWERS HEAD AND SEE THE SNEEKY WAYS AND TELL MR ROSS WHAT IS HAPPENING!

I love when dudes try to act like they're women in here. Just priceless.

these blogs are useless. everybody in here has an opinion and in the end nobody knows anything.

Will anyone finally concede for me that Chris Clemmons @ FS is absolutely a position of need?

I really watched him CLOSELY this year. Every game 1 or 2 plays he is always late over the top. Most times luckily bailed out by bad throws.

Maybe he is young or his reaction time is only rivaled by that of a slug.

DC Dolfan, excellent point. We need to draft 1st round grade qbs until one pans out. Odds ar it wouldn't take that many tries anyway. You take 3 first round grade qbs and odds are - one of them will be your qb for 10 years.

YES we need a free safty! And we need another OLB, and an upggrade for Crowder, badly.

Poizen where did you read that? "Hennes arm worse than Pennys" BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's so ridiculously ignorant I need respond no further.

WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE HAD HEARTATTACKS WITH SPARANO AS COACH..REMEMBER THE 11 AND 5 SEASON AND ALL THOSE CLOSE GAMES VS. TEAMS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEATEN EASILY.

6 months ago it was "in tuna we trust" and "trifecta this and trifecta that". Now everybody hates the coach and GM and thinks Parcells was a waste of time. Goes to show how much everybody knows.

We need a leader in the secondary like a Woodson, Palamalu, reed, or something like that.

JOE, I SEE THEY ARE TRYING TO PULL YOU AWAY TO THEIR SIDE ,THE EVIL SIDE . BE WARE ,THE GANG OF DEFEAT ARE AT THEIR BEST WHEN THINGS ARE DIRE BUT YOU GOT TO KEEP FAITH ,DO LET THE DYING SNEAK SWAY YOU AWAY FROM US .

Clemmons was also a PLAYMAKER...Considering we have a shortage of those I'd be careful about casting him aside just yet!

Langford, Starks, Misi, Crowder, SEAN SMITH, Sapp, Merling, McDaniels could all be upgraded however

Ty poizen, for a moment there, I thought it was just me. This defense is not elite or a super bowl caliber D. It can be with some additions.

We still need someone who can pass rush other than Wake. We need a dependable & durable ILB. We need a FS who can help when called upon. And we definitely need 2 CB's, especially when NE is spreading you out in this division.

I NEVER believed in the Trifecta...For the record

DON'T LET THE DYING SNEAK SWAY YOU AWAY FROM US.

DENNY,

Soliai has gotten much better. However he still cannot be mentioned in the breath of the league great NT's. That's why I place him in category as 2nd string backup on a legit top 5 nfl team.

I also stated Vonte is the 2nd corner on a legit top 5 nfl team. This also makes Sean Smith a backup corner for a legit top 5 nfl team. No way Smith's overall better than Davis.

Also, Denny I named 3 legit starters on our defense not 2. Davis, Wake, and Dansby. All of the rest could easily be 2nd and 3rd stringers on a legit top 5 nfl team.

Wake is a pro bowl starter. Only Dansby and Davis are even within sniffing distance of being a pro bowler even though they werent selected. The rest? Use your best imagination, you're going to need it! LOL........

Poizen where did you read that? "Hennes arm worse than Pennys" BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's so ridiculously ignorant I need respond no further.:::::::::::

Aside from Mankins, can anyone name a Pats O-lineman?

If they don't draft them high, but, Brady has 7 secs to throw HOW CAN THAT BE?

CLEMMONS WAS A PLAYMAKER MY AZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Marc, a play maker? LOL Name me one play, outside of the fumble he caused vs Pitt, that was game changing.

A play-maker is Wake. Clemmons is a back up FS starting because he is the only option. If they had signed Rolle or Clark, he'd be an afterthought.

Please, no more college coaches. When does it ever work??

I am out all, until tomorrow. Have a good night

HYENAE COWER WANTS A FAT WALLET AND PLAY GOLF AND BE DRUNK ALL DAY IN THE BAHMAHA ISLANDS...he WILL TELL MR ROSS I AM HERE TO WORK HARD AND THEN GO WITH OPARH WINFRY ON A VACATON AND DRINK RUM.

M,R ROSS HAS TO HAVE HIS SOUP AND CHIKEN MEAT SANWICH AND (((study__)) ALL THE ISSUE AT HAND!

DD, not to pick on you but drafting a corner at the #15 pick with 1st round grade QBs on the board is exactly what Wannstedt did when he picked jamar fletcher over brees.

Marc,

Volmer, Light, Mankins, Connely?...don't know the other 1 without looking. Volmer was a 2nd rounder last year or year before.

Is Shula still available? Go get'em!

I disagree DB, Solia finally gets it, and if we don't re-sign him we'll regret it...

Bell led the team in tackles AGAIN! He may be long in the tooth, and def not great in coverage, but, he's my boy

VD is a #1 DB, no doubt in my mind. He had a couple lapses, but, name me ANY DB that doesn't

We should have found a way to draft 1 of those 2 safeties last year with our 1st. Or Dez. We'd be in so much better shape. Instead, we have a glut of Dlineman.

CLEMMONS A PLAYMAKER MY HEAVEN ,HE WILL BE CUT SHORTLY.

DC,

I dont see why so many are blinded by the light that we have a really good defense. Maybe it's because the offense struggled so mightily. Or is we read too much into the nfl defensive ranking.

Guys we played a lot of plain piss poor offenses this season. Dont anyone remember how our defense struggled to get off of the field against the few good offenses that we did play?

Was not New England our freshest reminder of that? We struggled to get off of the field on 3rd downs against every good offense in 2010. Those lofty defensive ranking you guys fell in love with really has decieven you! LOL.......

clemons and sean smith were terrible;so was vernon and murtha who whiffed regularly. we gave away jason allen 6int's and erik walden; the nfc player of the week.11 tackles and 2 sacks for gbay on sun.

Poizen, with a heavy heart, I admit Henne is the starter in Miami until they get someone better. So, no matter what anyone hear says, the QBs on this team are Henne, Thigpen (who's a FA) and I guess the guy they just got from Denver. And Henne is signed at least through next year.

So until someone better comes around, Henne WILL get his chance to prove me and everyone else wrong. I happen not to believe he can do it, and hope we acquire a better QB quickly (either through the draft or sign a veteran or both).

But I recognize until either of those events happen, our QB next year will be Chad Henne (which is why I'm scared about Tony Sparano being the Coach). I think if Henne is your QB, you need a magical offense like Mike Leach's Texas Tech or something like that.

Sorry, here.

I understand that everyone wants a team that has a pro bowler at every position but it's just not possible. The best teams have 6 or 7 tops. We have at best 3 and they're all on the defensive side of the ball. You add 3 pro bowl offensive players and we have just as many pro bowlers as the best teams in the league.

Clemmons had at least 3 FF's, an INT. Should have had a couple others, and was MOSTLY a solid tackler. He wasn't exposed any more than any other person on D this year. Not saying he can't be upgraded, but, when you only force 20 turnover all season and he's resposible for a 5th of those, might wanna start elsewhere.

NOBODY made GAME CHANGING plays or we might have won more than 7 games!

THE 49'S WILL COMMIT THEIR BIGGEST MISTAKE IN THEIR HISTORY BY SIGNING A COLLAGE COACH .

I seen HarBAG get his butt in his mouth one time from Jef cross. HA!!! Been having a beer or TEN just getins strted!!!

DB, we were great against crap teams and crap against good teams. I said it all season, anyone who thinks our D is set is in for a rude awakening.

Stats are for losers.

Brandstater, we've got our man lol

I can't beleive there are people posting here tht we should go all defense in the draft. how many top 3 round draft picks do we have on defense? COunt em:

Langford, Odrick, merling, Misi, Crowder, Smith, Davis, Dansby

Then we have guys that came from far back to be very good players:

Starks, Wake, McDaniel, Soliai

And still more top end picks on defense??? WOW.

All these guys are young and productive - why more defense???

We already have more than enough talented players on defense

You don't think Atlanta would trade us def for def straight up right now???

Guys it was great talking to you but I have to leave and wanted to let you know so no one wasted time responding to me. Talk to you guys later, GO DOLPHINS!!!!!

We weren't GREAT a single game this season...Barely even GOOD if we squeeked out a win

DB, in an earlier post I said our defense was 1-2 injuries away from being lackluster. So I agree with you. Defense isn't elite at all.

I just think from a strategical standpoint, playing with the like of New England, you need to be able to score points. Plus, Miami has been a defensive team since Marino left, and done nada. And it's getting frustratingly boring to watch this team. So, just for the sheer entertainment value, I want to upgrade the offense, EVEN at the expense of the defense.

No way is Vontae a number 1 db. At least his numbers didnt state so. Its easy to say that being a biased fan. He only had 3 picks and near seasons end didnt even seem motivated enough to shut down no name wr's.

Dont know or care what was wrong with Vontae near seasons end. But he had sure better get his head out of his a ss near seasons end next year. This is why I dropped his stock to 2nd corner on a legit top 5 team. His play was totally unacceptable for his level of play at seasons end! LOL............

I KNOEW I M DYING PREED THE BEST BLOGGER WITH MY DEAR FRIEND MARC THE GAY GY BUT I WANT TO GO TO SAN MARTIN W/HIM TO SEE THE FLOWERS AND DRINK TEA AND WATER

I SAY HARBAUGH BECOMES THE FINS COACH..I SAY HE WAS GONNA BE THE MICHIGAN COACH ..BUT AS SOON AS HE MET ROSS ..HE CHANGED TO WANTING TO BE A NFL COACH..AND HIS INTERVIEW WITH THE 49ERS IS JUST THERE LAST ATTEMPT TO LAND HIM..BUT HE'S COMMING TO US...WATCH!

Marc, 2 FF & 1 int in 15 games. 1 game changing play? Man, is it that hard? Yea it is cause he didn't make ANY. He got burned for a bunch though I can assure you.

Wake made plenty of game changing plays. Clemmons had not even 1. He's a scrub, plain & simple.

this organization is the absolute worst in the nfl. go ahead and keep sparano here ross, because you are not going to get anyone else to come to miami. cowher doesn't want the job, harbaugh doesn't want the job, gruden doesn't want the job. ross, ireland, sparano= a match made in hell!

We can all nitpick on the defense needing to be upgraded but it's young and good enough. No defenses in the NFL are dominating - NOBODY! If you hav ea defense that keeps you in a game, it's good enough. You win when you have a QB and can score 20+ points a game every game - plain and simple. Going all defense will only ensure you pick first in 2012.

I agree that the Head Coach is mainly responsible for the progression or regression of players and through his assistant coaches. If Sparano stays, expect wholesale changes in the latter. If that doesn't work then...

And, if we keep Sparano, maybe he does do some things right. Brings in a new OC, fixes the oline.

What about what Ricky/JT said? Does he fix the personal, micromanaging style he has? I'm a manager at work, and I've had to change my style a few times (they either stopped working or never worked on the crew I had at the time).

Obviously, if multiple players are saying it, there's got to be some truth to it. Players are more concerned about not making mistakes than making PLAYS. Imagine Brett Favre with INT's. You can't, because then he wouldn't have done the amazing things he did. You HAVE TO break some eggs to make an omelet. Sparano doesn't understand that yet. Will he now? Or will he just keep doing what he's doing?

by friday we will see tony sparano returning for another season as the headlines! another losing season next year.

SHULA! SHULA! SHULA!

Erik Walden is very dumb, so is Jason Allen; they can only play for dumb Teams. Right?

"...imagine Favre withOUT INT's..."
that's what I meant.

MARK,

THE DEFENSE IS THE LEAST OF OUR PROBLEMS ,WHAT ABOUT RB AND THE OL PLUS THE QB ..........DON'T LET THE FORCES OF EVIL TAKE YOU AWAY FROM OUR SIDE .
