If God had wanted me to be a play-by-play man he would have sent me down here with a wonderful baritone voice instead of my current voice that only gets me by on my now highly rated (apparently) Armando and the Amigo radio show.
The point -- aside from a shameless plug -- is that play-by-play is not my favorite.
But here, the Dolphins are in a coaching search and you readers are a beast that must be fed. So I feel compelled to throw every available nugget of information down your collective throats. And that means giving you the play-by-play of things happening as we know them.
So what nugget can you chew on this hour?
ESPN's Adam Schefter, the best information man in the business, is reporting he doesn't think Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh will end up with the Dolphins. How's that for a hearty meal?
Schefter tweeted moments ago he likes San Francisco today as the landing spot for Harbaugh. "Not Miami, not Oakland, not Carolina, not Denver."
That nugget lodged in your throat now?
This, of course, does not mean the Dolphins chase of Harbaugh is over or a failure. Schefter did give himself wiggle room, saying he likes San Francisco for Harbaugh "today." And tomorrow is another day.
But if the story stays the same and Harbaugh does land the San Francisco job that is located 21 miles from his current address, that means Tony Sparano will likely return to the Dolphins for his fourth season unless another star candidate suddenly emerges.
[UPDATE: ESPN is reporting Harbaugh is meeting with San Francisco later today.]
A notable aside: Today the Michigan job came open. Athletics Director Dave Brandon said Harbaugh is not a candidate at Michigan because he "is headed to the NFL." And Brandon specifically referred to Habaugh dealing with a "billionaire."
Miami owner Stephen Ross is a billionaire. San Francisco owner Jed York? He's now part of the DeBartolo family and his mom Denise is estimated to be worth $900 million.
But what's $100 million give or take, right?

everyone makes mistakes, it happens yes, so that tells you what losers these coaches are if all they preach is to not make mistakes.

Guys thats exactly why I say we can head off the collapse of the defense with this draft. Its a very heavy handed defensive draft.
If Newton is available I would take him and spend the rest of the draft on defense. If not spend the entire draft on defense. So what if offense still sucks next year. Better than spending entire draft on offense, they still suck and to top it off the defense collapses too.
At least if we make the defense greater this draft, wwith the offense sucking we maybe able to draft well inside of top 10. Then we draft all offense having a better selection of higher grade players to choose from. This is what Im talking about.
2012 we'll have a championship level, or extremely close defense, and a vastly improved offense. We may even have enough firepower sitting so much nearer to the top of the draft board to more easily trade up and finally get our franchise qb. Now do you get it guys? LOL............
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 05, 2011 at 05:13 PM
denny I consider jake long on the offensive side a probowler. And Marshall also. Yes he didn't go to pro bowl this year but in denver he went 2-3 times.
Posted by: BoulderFinFan | January 05, 2011 at 05:15 PM
How does Sparano handle all the negative things players have been saying about him if he comes back for a fourth season?
Posted by: J.T. | January 05, 2011 at 05:15 PM
PLAYERS DIDN'T SAY ANY THING BAD ABOUT OUR HC ,THEY JUST TALKING ,WHEN HE COMES BACK ,HE WILL JUST CUT THEM LOOSE
Posted by: ALoco | January 05, 2011 at 05:16 PM
We're saved. Phins just signed QB Tom Brandstater to a future's contract (whatever the hell that is). They also signed an OL. And guess where they know him from? He was a 3rd round pick of the COWBOYS in 2007 their last year there. O.K. I'm OFFICIALLY DONE with these morons!! Wake me when they're GONE!!
Posted by: turd ferguson | January 05, 2011 at 05:16 PM
Micromanage? You mean keeping a unit on the practice field until they can run the play even when they are asleep? Of course, all good Coaches do that(S, L, B, etc, etc).
Posted by: oscar canosa | January 05, 2011 at 05:17 PM
Guys,
We draft offense all we like. But the fact is we draft 16th and that compounded with the fact the offensive talent that will be available isnt near good enough to have the sort of drastic improvement needed to make our offense better.
If any of you really believe this just click your red slippers together and say 3 times, "There's No Place Like Home." LOL.................
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 05, 2011 at 05:20 PM
PELICAN BOB, in this Continent EVERYBODY has mixed blood. Good, Bad? For you to decide.
Posted by: oscar canosa | January 05, 2011 at 05:23 PM
I think its 15th. And that micromanage criticism I thought was odd too, it must have been that Sparano was focusing on the wrong things, not the little things. Players just blowing smoke, like here lol.
Posted by: Tom | January 05, 2011 at 05:25 PM
well I dont got any china man in me maybe YOU do. It dont matter if Cowher is a China man to me I just never heard that before the dude told me and tyhen I seen his eyes and they got the slanty look like they do
Posted by: PELICAN BOB | January 05, 2011 at 05:25 PM
Read My Lips:
"This draft is a helluva lot deeper defensively than it is offensively."
If you dont see the defensive collapse coming in 2011, thats ok. Just click your red slippers together 3 times and say, there's no place like home and it'll be alright! LOL...................
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 05, 2011 at 05:26 PM
I've heard Cowher is part Chinese but don't see how it matters at all?
Joe Robbie and John Elway were Arab Americans. Does that make them bad?
Posted by: Tombo | January 05, 2011 at 05:28 PM
The Dolphins were founded by two Arab-Americans, Tombo...Robbie and Danny Thomas. Both were Lebanese.
Elway is of Syrian ancestry if memory serves. So is Flutie.
Gotta love some of these idiots. "Slanty eyes??" Good Christ.
Posted by: jim | January 05, 2011 at 05:31 PM
WE GOT TO DRAFT DEFENSE BECUASE WE DRAFT AT 19 NOT 15 BUT I TELL YOU A SECRET NO ONE ELSE KNOWS IT.WE DON'T ANY OL ,THAT WAS HOAX BUT THE MIGHTY DYING PREED KNOWS EVERY THING .
I AM GOING TO GET MARRIED NEXT WEEK WITH MY GIRL NANCY BOBBS ,ALL INVITED .PLEASE BRING SOME DRINKS WITH YOU .
Posted by: DYING PREED | January 05, 2011 at 05:32 PM
Pelican Bob, Is Cower good at Math???, If is, Then He Might be a "China Man"...........
Posted by: Cuban Menace | January 05, 2011 at 05:33 PM
The micromanaging comments are interesting. I don't see it being an issue in preparation.
However, I can see where it can be an issue in games. I'm all for game plans, but I believe players need to be players with the lattitude to make on the field adjustments without the hammer coming down on the for trying to earn their money.

I See Aloco is now posting as others..., Sad..
Posted by: Cuban Menace | January 05, 2011 at 05:35 PM
DB,
Don't think I agree with that. Our offense must get better next year or it's going to be ugly.
I don't care if they do it through FA or the draft, but it needs an influx of talent.
Posted by: JB | January 05, 2011 at 05:38 PM
Check Cower's spice cabinet. I bet you there's a big jar of MSG.
Posted by: pistol | January 05, 2011 at 05:38 PM
hey if we keep sporano and they quit on him we go 2-14 lluck stays in school til next yr and we get him and sparono out, how can i be a real fan saying that? would you trade 12 gd yrs with a franchise QB for one lousy yr? i would. Or draft gabbert 15th sign micheal bush draft one of goergias all american gaurds 3rd pick and a speed guy in 4th for kick returns and deep threat.
Posted by: steve | January 05, 2011 at 05:38 PM
Sparano resigns! Check it out....
Posted by: FoxNFL | January 05, 2011 at 05:39 PM
Good going Steveo, now you NEED to hire someone other than Sparano. You can't bring him back because NO one and I mean NO one will go to Sun Life Stadium knowing Sparano is in the last year of his contract. And the players will take advantage of it.
So now you either pay Harbaugh what he wants or give Cowher what he wants. Why does our franchise end up which such dumbass owners???
It must be the Joe Robbie curse.
Posted by: Rodster | January 05, 2011 at 05:39 PM
Breed, I a Think it's sad that the Fins are searching for a New Coach while still employing the Fist Pumper, I'd not be one bit surprised that the day of the first game Tony says he quiting ala Ricky Williams, I mean it kinda sucks in my opinion that if Ross doesn't find a coach he'll just say,"Will at least we has the fist pumper"....
Posted by: Cuban Menace | January 05, 2011 at 05:42 PM
Pelican Bob, you have issues!! I don't even like Cowher all that much but what the HELL diff does it make that he's part Chinese?!? If he speaks Chinese even better, he could be an ambassador for football over there!
I bet you can't even speak English properly Pelican Bob. You sure can't write it!
Posted by: Tombo | January 05, 2011 at 05:42 PM
Thnx mando keep up the play by play
Posted by: krut | January 05, 2011 at 05:46 PM
Tombo, That's just another alias for our lil glue sniffing friend Aloco.....
Posted by: Cuban Menace | January 05, 2011 at 05:47 PM
It does seem easy for a player to vent with that micro criticism, can you imagine that Belichick doesn't come off like that? Watching them over the years, I can't picture him celebrating a just wing it sometimes kind of mentality, practice or game. My guess is thats a less harsh way of saying they didn't think Sparano knew what he was doing, gametime.
Posted by: Tom | January 05, 2011 at 05:51 PM
I live here in the S.F. Bay area & I can say with absolute confidence Harbaugh walks on water here folks.
He couldn't get convicted of manslaughter if he ran over Nancy Pelosi in broad daylight in Palo Alto.
He was worshiped as a living God long before the Bowl gm the other night folks.
I would be shocked if he didn't end up with the 9ers.
Besides he has never proven anything as HC in the NFL.
Haven't we been down the college rd before.
How did that work out for Atlanta...?
And the 9ers actualy have a shot at one of the top 3 QBs in the draft.
They will throw the kitchen sink at him.

NO ONE WANTS TO COACH THE DOLPHINS.
NO ONE WANTS A PART OF THE CELEBRITY & ROCKSTAR ATMOSPHERE. STEVEN ROSS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM.
Posted by: dolfdan13 | January 05, 2011 at 05:56 PM
In 2011 We Play:
Ive ranked them according to how they finished ranked in total offense in 2010.
#1 Chargers
#2 Eagles
#3 Texans
#7 Cowboys
#8 Patriots(twice) Cant believe they finished 8th!
#10 Raiders
#11 Jets(twice)
#12 Chiefs
#13 Broncos
That's 11 games next season against the leagues top or better overall offenses. We still play the Browns again who we lost to in 2010 and Bills who we split 2 games against in 2010.
So you see guys, the stakes that our offense are up against in 2011 are much greater than 2010. Sad part is that if we spend the entire 2011 draft on weak offensive skill players. We'll still neither have the offensive to keep up with the offenses we're playing in 2011, nor the defense to even slow them down enough.
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 05, 2011 at 05:57 PM
Now I know how Fat Tony lost all that weight, he kept hearing ...RUN FOREST RUN !!! And I know what had Chad H. worried every game, he was upset that he might have the football backwards...lol
Posted by: Phin4Life | January 05, 2011 at 06:00 PM
At least in 2010 we played against enough terrible offenses to make thos games look close! LOL..............
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 05, 2011 at 06:02 PM
please no college coach, look at Saban did to phins few years ago and goes back to college! Get Charlie Weis, he a perfect fit for Phins then he coach college!
Posted by: kevphin | January 05, 2011 at 06:02 PM
DB, ...if we don't get a new coach, why waste the draft on this loser regime? Trade all our picks for picks next year. That can be determined by Ross. Then the new regime will have a boat load of picks, and we'll be able to attract a better HC knowing he has a lot of picks right off the bat. Next season is lost, bite the bullet today for the future.

I trying to think of a collage coach in the last 15 years that have succeeded in the NFL, Guy's a little help please.....Ive got Butch Davis(Couldn'T wait to get out of Cleveland)(Though I cant really blame him), Steve Spurrer in Washington,Neck Satan, are there any other ones????
Posted by: Cuban Menace | January 05, 2011 at 06:09 PM
0x80,
That isnt a bad idea either. We would be able to turn our 2011 1st rd into a 2012 1st and 2nd rd pick easily. Maybe turn the 3rd pick into 2 3rd rd picks in 2012. Plus we can possibly be drafting top 5 in 2012 with all of our own original draft picks. LOL...............
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 05, 2011 at 06:10 PM
Next year we get Edds, Odrick and Sheets back too... Bring in some FA for the OLINE and just wing it next year. Luck does not want to go to Carolina, so maybe we get him too next year. To challenge the hoodie in the future, one has to prepare well in advance!

Just read Collinsworth's column in PFT. More and more convinced there's either not going to be football in 2011 or at best an abbreviated season.
It's not looking good AT ALL on the labor front despite what Goodell said the other day.
