ESPN reports Daboll is the new OC, question is why?

I know what you are thinking: You are simply wondering why him?

If ESPN's report that Brian Daboll will be hired as Miami's new offensive coordinator (The Herald has not as of this writing been able to independently confirm this), then you're asking why coach Tony Sparano hired a coordinator whose team scored fewer points than the Dolphins broken offense in 2010.

The Dolphins also scored more points than Daboll's Browns in 2009.

I don't have an explanation for you at this time. I'm hoping to get an explanation at some point. It's a tough day for that as I'm flying back from Boston today so timing might be an issue.

In the meantime, I can tell you Daboll (35 years old) is younger than Dan Henning, whom he is replacing. And he is an enthusiastic sort as the video below shows.

Daboll's NFL experience is out of the Bill Belichick coaching tree. He was hired in 2000 by the Patriots as a defensive assistant. He became wide receivers coach in 2002. He left the Pats in 2006 to go with Eric Mangini to the Jets as their QB coach.

In 2009, Daboll again migrated with Mangini, this time to Cleveland where he served as offensive coordinator. Obviously, he was on the outs in Cleveland when Mangini was fired. And now he is apparently on the ins with the Dolphins.

2011 Dolphins. 0-18
yup we will set the mark for most losees ever in a regular season. Ross-SELL THE TEAM TONIGHT

Hey fish Fu$$s. Guess who is in the conference finals again? Do you even remember the last time you losers won a playoff game? We have won four in the last two years! Just sell the team and move to a city that actually cares about football.

Personally I'd rather see CP10 stay on as an Assistant QB Coach . The man has got alot of knowledge and integrity which is a rare combination in the sports world

Anyway it's been a pleasure chatting guys and girls . I'm clocking otu of work and heading home to be with my little guy in morning . Will chat again when back at work Thursday. Til then GO PHINS

We suck again!

Why couldn't freakin sparano hold his water and wait to hire one of the green bay packer offensive coaches as our next OC? Incredible!!!

Flipper: Even a GB packer offensive coach won't come here. Not a good destination any longer. Our franchise is 'tampa bay' circa 1985.

why is everyone so surprised sparano pulled yet another boneheaded move? i mean dont you see this guy coaching on sundays he doesnt even have a clue when to use a timeout for god sakes and that game where the refs didnt give us a ball to use and the time ran out and sparano just ran off the field without even arguing was pathetic he shoulda been fired right after that game any other coach would have went nuts

uh maybe u richard, i predicted a 7-9 season and took alot of crap in september for saying it

FG'S now equal FIST PUMP followed by a CHEST BUMP.........Sweet....

Some people don't like the hire. I like it. I think with the right personnel, ie deep threat this could work. He made Peyton Hillis into a pro bowler. Yes there are needs, but things are more spelled out what we're going to do.
If we are running spread then we have some drafting to do and get guys that fit this offense.

Here's your REAL explanation: His offense outscored Miami's this season... in Miami. What a FRICKEN JOKE! We are worse than the Raiders.

sabotage from the inside...

Been a fan since 1967, will always be a fan, I may stop watching the games but I'll always be a fan. When Dave Wannstadt left I thought finally he is gone. Nick Saban is simply one of the only humans I hate. With Cam Cameron I thought where the heck did they find this guy? Now with Tony Sparano I am just beyond frustrated and to hire this guy as OC. No one should buy a season ticket and tell Ross the reason why. Be committed to being a winner YAY...find a decent coach is Job #1...I have been waiting for years to get a shot at Having Cowher...I was in Pittsburgh during his tenure and saw what he did for that team, they are still reaping the benefit of his time. The Dolphins are quickly becoming a joke...ARGH

Wow and we said we wanted change thanks again for playing it safe. Go team

From bad to worse!

The signing of Daboll means that the management decided not to draft a QB and keep Henne. I would imagine that a top notch OC would have demanded another QB; other than Henne and Pennington. I heard that Pennington recommended Daboll from his days with the Jets. That only means that Pennington must be counting on coming back next year, which kind of sucks bc if Pennington's arm is not ready, we go back to them same old story. We don't have an offense or any type of coaching leadership on the side of the offense.

The fans were hoping for a genius (just like Mike Nolan) on the offensive side of the field, and what we got was an unproven and mediocre OC, who will be coming to Miami to do whatever Sparano says.. another Henning?

Richard->"even if he doesn't pan out than we are in the same spot." well thats frickin' encouraging. "I don't really like that girl too much but I'll date her for a bit and if it doesn't work out then I'm still alone," how bout that analogy. Try harder! This guy made Peyton Hillis a probowler? How bout he ran his butt off over 260 times cause there were no other weapons on offense kinda how wannstedt wore out Ricky. I've always been positive w/ the Fins, not so much this time.

Chad Pennington likes the move and wants to play for him in 2011

phinvet, the dolphins have been a joke all year

Totally agree with PhinVet. I've been a fan since the late 70's...this is getting old real quick. Ross blew a chance to get cowher and now some of you are accepting the keeping of Sparano and now you want to "see" what deboll can do?? Stop being sheep and following everything just because..have a voice, express your displeasure with Ross...loudly. This is unacceptable. Be leaders, don't just accept things because that's the position Ross put us in...and don't you dare question my fan-hood because I am unhappy with our teams progression or lack there of over the last 15 years. I have the right just like you..and I say this is BS! If you accept this and all the other moves Ross has made well then you are tue bad fans

Like this comment about Daboll from Holmgren's mouth...
Daboll has a belief in a system and how he moves the football, how he’s going to do it and if anyone were to interfere with that too much, it would really throw a monkey wrench in most things,” Holmgren then told reporters.

NEVER! In my history as a sports fan have I EVER given up on my team before the season started. As a loyal KC Royals fan for 20 some odd years...and to me, George Brett in baseball, is Dan Marino in football. I have still not given up on the Royals although making me suffer for decades I will expect only playoffs from them this season until the post season.... But, if the Dolphins make Daboll official tomorrow, I will have already decided that 2011 is a lame duck season. No explosive offense. No Ryan Mallett with the first pick. Only failure. Only another season of toiling in the AFC East while the Jets runs their mouths and the Patriots systematically cheat their way to the offseason with Cris Collinsworth declaring openly on the air that if he had the chance, he'd open mouth kiss Tom Brady on the ba**s. And I will write checks to Directv so I can have Sunday ticket. And I will drink Rolling Rock Light after Rolling Rock light hoping that somehow, someway the Miami Dolphins will make a run for the Super Bowl. And they will win games. They'll win games they shouldn't and lose those they should win. But in the end, they'll diappoint me. Mike Nolan will leave and HC somewhere where he's appreciated and we'll restructure, rebuild, re-whatever...and the Dolphins, the Dolphins that I came to love as an Illinois 10 year old who could have easily fallen for the '85 Bears but instead was more intrigued by Marino and the Dolphins, will waste another year of life as Tony Sparano who I totally thought was done wrong by Ross, will instead spite the owner and spend the next season showing him what it'll cost him for flying off and courting Harbough. Seriously!!! The fan has to suffer?!?!?! Maybe don't be petty!!!! Maybe let us have out team!!!! Because I don't want Bess and Hartline and Dansby and Wake to waste a valuable season in their prime while we continue to make the same mistakes we always do. Maybe Long doesn't have to risk another season of injury while we dwell in the basement of the AFC East because we'll probably draft Odrick with the first round pick!!!! ARRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!! I MEAN C'MON!!!!! MALLETT ALREADY!!!!!!!!! Can we stop for a second and look at the team. A team of players who want a future. Not just a stopover where they prove their talents and hit free agency or get traded to a team who will more likely make it to the off season. I am pleading with anyone who can reach out to Tony or Ross or whatever...you don't have to make this guy official. You can make him a QB coach, but making him the OC will only guarantee you another losing season and another Black Monday. I'm sorry, I'm a littled hammered on Jack & Coke and I had to get that out of my system. Go Dolphins!! Go Royals!!! I'm going to bed!

Last year what you wanted most was Dan Henning's head.
You got it.
Now you want Daboll's head before he even steps onto the field.
Wow - unbelievable!
Bill Belichick coached at Cleveland and didn't exactly set the world on fire - now look at him and his three superbowl rings.

I generally try to defend the franchise to boost my own hopes of the team once again being relevant, but this is deplorable.

Well said silenceDogood, well said. Some people refuse to admit that. Your a good man friend

Meeting in the Office goes like dis:

Tony to ROSS...."Remember what I did for you in Freedom town?..."
ROSS to Tony..."I never turn you Tony..."

What about da quarterbak Henne ?

Tony..."I never trust that chubato "

The only logical solution for the dolphins for 2012 is to get marino and shula back! I can feel another 1-20 season all over again

Now that Parcells has "stepped down(quit, ran like a little be-atch, ripped us off-whatever you want to call it)", you can see Ross starting to put his fingerprints on this team.

For all intents and purposes, he has effectively turned "His Head Coach" into a lame duck. He embarrassed the team, us fans and himself with the Harbaugh debacle.

He follows the retardation and embarrassment up with extending the contract of the two time 7-9 coach he was attempting to replace. He actually rewarded the guy he turned into a lame duck! Are you kidding me?

THEN...........to shore up our lousy underacheiving offense, Ross apparently is OK with us hiring a one of only two guys that was actually statistically WORSE than the guy WE JUST FIRED????

Of course we didn't hire this guy away from his former team. He and they were so collectively lousy, He and THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF WAS FIRED!!!!

This is not on the up and up people. I don't care what anyone says. Even the duMMest MotherF_cker on the planet can't be this dumb.

Ross must be a sleezebag dead set on using the Dolphins as a tax write off. He probably already has plans on moving the team eventually.

Its gotta be that, he can't be this retarded........can he?

I Hope Ross follows this feed....You hear me Ross?????

If you confirm this guy as the new OC you will single handedly ruin next season. Don't forget you've already done lame things this offseason... You will create so much backlash on yourself that you will never be trusted and always hated by miami fans.
Just look---Doball started out as a DEFENSE guy...Wasn't any good so went to offense. He wasn't calling the plays when favre and the jets were looking like they could go to the playoffs, He was the QB coach--He didn't tell Favre anything he didn't already know.
The last two years when he DID call the plays the Browns SUCKED no matter which QB they used.

The Dolphins fanbase is bloody frustrated about this last season. Henne still sucks and Penny's obviously done. Now you want to bring in an OC with little experiance and a horrible point scoring average?? Its worse than ours!!!! Does that not raise any red flags with you?????

I beg you to reconsider. Please don't do this to a lifelong and frustrated Dolphins fan....

Welcome Coach Daboll.
We like to complain, gripe, moan, and beetch about everything.
Get used to it!

Da boll...where is da boll?.....

In two seasons with Cleveland, Daboll's "scoring" offense slightly regressed.

It went from a whopping 29th two years ago to 31st last year.

This could be misconstrued as complaining, griping, beetching and moaning. Realistically and in all actuality, it's just the facts................

AwwwwwRiiiiiiight MIAMI!!!!

DA BOLL is ova dere...Dianaboll...Get da BOLL Henne and tro it....

DABOLL is exactly what we need...He fits our team ETHOS of being UNSUCCESSFUL...its a great fit...

Da-Boll went dat away!

Fist pump - Chest Bump

Tomato - To MAH to

ROSS....you got....fist pumped...!!!!

DB...ur a hoot buddy...lol

This will be a copy of what the Dolphins do this year. Its probably gonna be bad. The new OC does not have much of a record other than working for Belicheck. I hope he has some ideas to work the passing game down the field, I am so sick of the dink and dunk offense I cant stand it. I saw several times this year of teams that won the playoff games after several shots downfield over 50 yards. Marshall can go and get those if u can throw em, that is why he is so pizzed. Dirty Sanchez from the Jets would prob have 1000 yards throwing w Marshall cause he is accurate. I see the Dolphins 8 and 8 next year. It is one of our curses, we finish in the middle of the pack every year and end up w middle of the pack draft picks. I hate mediocrity, either go for it Fat Tony and the new sucky OC or shut it down, no more dink and dunk, I cant watch it anymore. BTW God help us if Fat Tony the fist pumper starts calling Offensive plays lol.

Is Da-Boll gone be more x-citin dan Da-Henning?

I mean Odin....lol...ha ha

Sparano will say "Heck...yep well...yeah..I really feel good about this thing...I really really do...a whole bunch..yep..I do...I really do diddly do do do...yep a whole bunch...yep..I do..".

The Brown's have been dysfunctional since forever.
Daboll was just passing through.
You guys sound like you want Henning back.
Besides - doesn't matter who the OC is.
Not going very far with current commanders-in-chief.

A great video of coach meltdowns, they need one where we tried to feed the wolf, but our wolf was Mike Vicked lol. The Herm Edwards part cracks me up, he is right the Dolhins need more of that sign ur name to it.

Where is DA BOLL...???....Goddamm it Chad.!!!..I asked you...where is da boll now...wid de other team...pick 6....

ROSS to Big Tony..: CHU HAS SUM ESSPLAININ to do Tony .!!...you hire dat Chubato DABOLL...???

TONY to ROSS : " Wachu talkin ?...Chu don trusst me?..fukk you...!...make amove..!..""

When you're an offensive coordinator and your offense goes from 29th to 31st, you better believe your just passing through.

I bet you Holmgren(of all people)sounded just like Donald Trump:

Daboll, YOU ARE FIRED!!!!

We can say Daboll "retired" from the Browns.

You know, just like everybody said Hennings "retired" from the Panthers.

Odin...hilarious...fist pumparoooooney..!!

We can say Daboll "retired" from the Browns.

You know, like everybody said Hennings "retired" from the Panthers.

Total offense - Miami
2008 - 12th
2009 - 17th
2010 - 21st.
We have been the east coast Browns the whole time and you did not know it.

I Da-Double Posted!

I'm such a Da-Boll!

I can't wait to see the Coors Lite commercials with these two jack aces chest bumping and fisting the shyt out of each other.

The kick is up..........it's GOOD!

Chicken Little the sky is falling!!!!

This you tube video cracks me up, it involves Ryan Leaf which reminds me of Ginger Ireland and Fat Tony picking our first round draft pick in 2011 which may or may not be a QB. I hope Ginger Ireland does not pick the wrong player but w the Joe Robbie Curse he prob will. I play a lot of PS3 Madden football w the Dolphins as my team and Fat Tony seems to make a lot of bad in game calls. Our new OC from the browns smells like da feet of Rex Ryans wife and also needs Cause he seems to suck. And lets Put Henne in that room too, he will prob od on Xanax, he makes Cheech and Chong look mellow
I am Curious what Hennes rating will be in preseason Madden 2011. The strike might hold up the release of that game, I sure do not have much optimism for the Phins next season. Maybe that gives them a chance lol.

Armando do thing the New Enland looked slugish in the game? I thing the bye mess some teams up.They looked like they were sleep walking.

I don't know about you, but hiring someone as an offensive coordinator who was a defensive guy? How the heck does that work?

Insanity diffinition:Madness, the non-legal word for insanity, has been recognized throughout history in every known society. Primitive cultures turned to witch doctors or shamans to apply magic, herbal mixtures, or folk medicine to rid deranged persons of evil spirits or bizarre behavior........ Anyone know of any witch doctors or shamans in the Miami area, Cause Ross suffers from insanity...

Somebody say insanity?

Good Morning Dolfans & fellow New World Order slaves

Home says give the young aggressive OC a chance
Already like his relationship style w his players

All we need is Cam Newton & some phat guys who can block

We could actually then be productive w Ronnie & Ricky

Hey they are actually both healthy for once

Go Phins!

This is definitely the low point of my dolfan career, and I've suffered through alot (1-15, jax whipping Marino into retirement, etc) but nothing can prepare me for this. We keep sparano, who is obviously an idiot, keep jeff Ireland, who is obviously horrible at drafting as much as saban was, and we 'let' them hire one of the two teams in the effin league who had a worse offense than 'us'......because the decision was given to a jackass like sparano, and this is what happens when u 'let' him make decisions. I honestly would prefer mangini over this pile of garbage we have been given. The definition of regress: 2009-2011 Miami dolphins.
I'm AFRAID to see who we draft now.
