I know what you are thinking: You are simply wondering why him?
If ESPN's report that Brian Daboll will be hired as Miami's new offensive coordinator (The Herald has not as of this writing been able to independently confirm this), then you're asking why coach Tony Sparano hired a coordinator whose team scored fewer points than the Dolphins broken offense in 2010.
The Dolphins also scored more points than Daboll's Browns in 2009.
I don't have an explanation for you at this time. I'm hoping to get an explanation at some point. It's a tough day for that as I'm flying back from Boston today so timing might be an issue.
In the meantime, I can tell you Daboll (35 years old) is younger than Dan Henning, whom he is replacing. And he is an enthusiastic sort as the video below shows.
Daboll's NFL experience is out of the Bill Belichick coaching tree. He was hired in 2000 by the Patriots as a defensive assistant. He became wide receivers coach in 2002. He left the Pats in 2006 to go with Eric Mangini to the Jets as their QB coach.
In 2009, Daboll again migrated with Mangini, this time to Cleveland where he served as offensive coordinator. Obviously, he was on the outs in Cleveland when Mangini was fired. And now he is apparently on the ins with the Dolphins.

Look NY is not that bad. I mean the people get on your nerves and we rush everywhere and have no manners and we'll tax the hell out of small businesses and motorists and cyclists, but if you make a coupl of hundred grand a year you can live up here.
Been Florida, Keys, Mia, Orlando, Palm Beach and I hated it all. Especially South Beach and Keys, talk about d*ck dodging!!!!

APK in the house! That means you're either black or white trash ;)

NY, most depressing city HAS to be Detroit. I was there in the 90's, burned-out buildings (that were supposedly there from the 70's), hardly anyone around downtown, just pathetic.
Posted by: DC Dolfan | January 18, 2011 at 01:57 PM
DC,
Sparano and Ireland may have it FORCED on them to take a WR. I see this owner as someone who is going to get more involved since Parcells has left. I would think someone like Julio Jones would be a nice add but there may be other ways to skin a cat.
I'll also say, even though Sparano NEVER said things publicly that he does in fact place some of the blame on Henning. I don't believe Henning being let go was all Ross. I think Sparano sees things as they are and knew a change had to be made.
Posted by: Craig M | January 18, 2011 at 01:59 PM
You can buy a house for 10K in Detroit. Hell, you can buy a whole city block for about $100k & be the biggest slum lord on the planet.
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | January 18, 2011 at 01:59 PM
Jersey was a cess pool...Detroit can't be much worse than that place...
Posted by: Marc | January 18, 2011 at 01:59 PM
Tracy..Apopka has some nice areas, you can grab a house out there and actually get a nice chunk of land to go with it...good stuff
Posted by: cowkilla | January 18, 2011 at 01:59 PM
Craig, neither Sparano nor Ross let Henning go. Henning walked away. He knew what was gonna happen, he didn't even give them an option.
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | January 18, 2011 at 02:00 PM
Key word is "was" Marc, Jersey is actually one of the nicer places to live, once you get out of north Jersey.
Posted by: nyfinfan | January 18, 2011 at 02:01 PM
Guys I will agree with you about Detroit. Very sad and depressing. There are areas of Buffalo that are going the same way.
Posted by: Craig M | January 18, 2011 at 02:01 PM
LoL @ Marc...thats a good one man about Apop...
Posted by: cowkilla | January 18, 2011 at 02:01 PM

According to Money magazine, they rate the top 50 cities to live in the USA every year. NJ usually has a couple in the top 10 & many more in the top 50. If that's a cess pool, I'm all about it!
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | January 18, 2011 at 02:04 PM
WHAT ABOUT THE GATES in every house and THE WINDO BARS IN ORLANDO ?
Posted by: ALoco | January 18, 2011 at 02:04 PM
I have to agree with Marc... Red Bank was the only place in jersey that was worth visiting..the rest of it you can have...funny smell there too, not sure what it is...
Posted by: cowkilla | January 18, 2011 at 02:05 PM
Yep, Apopka was nice (my brother still lives there), but I joined the Navy as a kid to get out of there as soon as I could. Did 10 years then wound up in college in Alabama. Now, I live in Dothan, AL about 12 miles from the Florida line. I still go down to visit every now and then. But, it's not like it used to be down there.
Posted by: Tracy474 | January 18, 2011 at 02:05 PM
Yeah, my subscription to "Money Magazine" expired, but, my eyesight still works, as does my sense of FEELING.
It's cold, and if it's not a cess pool, it's surrounded by them. I'll pass on NJ

That's in Crime Hills Aloco..not Orlando
Posted by: cowkilla | January 18, 2011 at 02:06 PM
I joined the Army, got out of Pine Hills, but, moved back to the "Greater area of Orlando", Maitland. Love it too much to leave, just didn't move back to the hood.
and UCF! One of the largest schools in the country. The ratio of women in Orlando suits my lifestyle. I love it here.

Actually Craig, I agree (almost) with you. IMO, Sparano came to see Henning as a liability. Meaning he didn't realize it at first. What was amazing to me was he was ready to go down with the ship 'protecting' him.
Same with Henne. He knew mid season Henne was killing any chance to win games.
Posted by: cocoajoe | January 18, 2011 at 02:10 PM
Now do I pack heat when I go downtown and stuff, sure, but I've never been even close to using it. There are great places and shytty places anywhere you go..you have to find that place that you like and feel comfortable in...it's all good, we are all American's man! We should all be as one! Except for the peeps in crime hills lol

Well, if you lived in the top 15, you'd have checked out the magazine. That's how I learned of it. Pretty insightful. What are you a girl? It's cold? LOL
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | January 18, 2011 at 02:12 PM
And for all you Apopka haters, it's a Seminole Indian word meaning "Big Potato!". That's why we used to call it the "tater patch!". Lol! Actually went to high school with John Anderson, the country music singer! And, I knew some of the Sapps down there (once they integrated the school system) but never met Warren.

Screw that, the cold is MISERABLE!
I live in Germany for 3 years. That was enough cold for a lifetime.
Posted by: Marc | January 18, 2011 at 02:21 PM
New Yawker,
The winter atmosphere's so dark and depressing up there they had to write songs to cheer you glooms up. How else could they get youse out the house to buy Christmas presents.
Yeah, we here those Christmas wintry songs and it reminds us how fortunate we are that we dont have to be "CHEERED UP" just to go outside! LOL............
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 18, 2011 at 02:23 PM
marc, it's 4 months out of the year. It's not Alaska or Canada. I'm not a huge fan of the cold either but it's nice to feel a chill in the air in the winter time.
As for the magazine, it's a list of the top places to live in the USA based on income, recreation, education, crime, weather, etc etc etc. It's a different list every year. My town came in the top #15 1 year, that's how I found out about it.
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | January 18, 2011 at 02:25 PM
YOU GUYS TALK THAT WAY B/C YOU HAVE NO JOB,NO HOUSE AND NO THING TO PAY THE HEAT BILL .

Miami native who spent most of my life there (and return frequently) but I relocated to the Northeast by choice nearly 10 years ago and have no desire whatsoever to ever live in Florida again fulltime.
Some of you guys go on and on about the winter here but it's just not as big a deal for a lot of folks, me included. And last I checked, it ISN'T winter 75% of the year and Spring and Fall are waaayyy nicer up here.
Sunshine? Uh, you might want to check the facts. Miami happens to be the rainiest big city in the country.
Love you Miami, but no thanks to ever living down there again!

dolfdan13, based on how Ross waffled at the end of the season, I think it's safe to say we have no nuts to have kicked.
