I know what you are thinking: You are simply wondering why him?
If ESPN's report that Brian Daboll will be hired as Miami's new offensive coordinator (The Herald has not as of this writing been able to independently confirm this), then you're asking why coach Tony Sparano hired a coordinator whose team scored fewer points than the Dolphins broken offense in 2010.
The Dolphins also scored more points than Daboll's Browns in 2009.
I don't have an explanation for you at this time. I'm hoping to get an explanation at some point. It's a tough day for that as I'm flying back from Boston today so timing might be an issue.
In the meantime, I can tell you Daboll (35 years old) is younger than Dan Henning, whom he is replacing. And he is an enthusiastic sort as the video below shows.
Daboll's NFL experience is out of the Bill Belichick coaching tree. He was hired in 2000 by the Patriots as a defensive assistant. He became wide receivers coach in 2002. He left the Pats in 2006 to go with Eric Mangini to the Jets as their QB coach.
In 2009, Daboll again migrated with Mangini, this time to Cleveland where he served as offensive coordinator. Obviously, he was on the outs in Cleveland when Mangini was fired. And now he is apparently on the ins with the Dolphins.

I wonder why is it taking so long to formally announce the Brian Dauboll signing?

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isnt this a football blog?
I was born in NY, Live in MA, and LOVE FL. You know what. they all have things that suck and they all have some real good things. So end it!! :)
Here is MA they hae a great owner who puts money in their team.
In NY they have a GREAT GREAT franchise for football, it is called the GIANTS. they also have a luck ridden bush league 2 bit loser team called the Jets.
Oh, and do you know how bad the Jets are? they lost to Miami 10-7 this year. Enough said.
So, any news on the labor agreement?

Posted by: Joe Schmoe | January 18, 2011 at 03:04 PM
Poizen, don't put too much stock into the City talk. It started because Bobbyd12 continues to bash NY area Dolphins fans. He considers us inferior to the ones residing in Florida who get out-roared by opposing teams fans on a weekly basis.

DC, your buddy Ted Leonsis is getting fried up here on sports talk radio for his meddling affairs with the Washington Capitals - more specifically his blogs on the state of the team's on ice affairs.

A few months ago when asked about CFL prospects that may help the Dolphins - I brought a couple including Chad Owens - an undersized speedy special teams maven here on the Argonauts. It was reported in one of our sports dailies here the other day that the New York Jets - threatened with the potential loss of Brad Smith - are negotiating a contract with him.
Come on Ireland - WE NEED SPEED!!!
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | January 18, 2011 at 03:18 PM
Mark, yeah, not a good year for the Caps. But make no bones about it, Leonsis would DROWN Ross AND Huzienga any day of the week. I know, I know, he's not doing so good with my Wizards, but give him a year or 2 there. Getting rid of "gunboy" Arenas was key. He really is a very good owner.

Friends I'm in North Dakota 3 years now...if you are single, this is the place to be...laws are very loose here, there is lots of fun to be had, no attitude with the girls here and they're up for a good time too, low maintenance types, plus very low cost of living.

Enid is known for having one of the finest Wendy's drive-thru windows in the nation. It is clean, well-lit, and the speakers are very clear.
We are also known as the "City of Lawns" where many residents take greast pride in both weeding AND watering their grass.
Enid is the greatest metropolis in America and truly the "City That Never Sleeps."

NDJim, One thing I'll give your state, and my eyes almost popped out of my head when I read this (thought it was a joke), but the article said North Dakota was one of the best places to relocate for jobs. Apparently, you guys have an overflow of jobs and not enough people to fill 'em.
So ALoco, when you get out of lockup, after parole, ND is the place to go to start over baby!

oscar...Not much in the wallet needed here, rent a dvd, splurge for some popcorn and whatever she likes to drink and all is good, works like a charm.

Interesting discussion on why everyone likes where they live today.
personally, I love my city but hate the weather. However, I think the cold weather makes me productive at work because once summer comes around - all I want to do is play. If I lived in Florida, I'd be living on the streets.
Posted by: Mark in Toronto | January 18, 2011 at 03:38 PM
Pete, THANK GOD that came out now, and not back in the day. Otherwise, Miami would have passed on Marino like they did Santonio Holmes and Dez Bryant and all the other SUPERSTARS they passed on just because of the wacky tobacchy.
Great, now we have to hear from Mando how immoral Marino is. Isn't it funny how religious people see immorality in EVERYBODY else, but can't see the priest raping their kids right under their noses (or don't care)? Anyone understand that double-standard?

Here a classy night out is taking them for a pizza and hitting the neighborhood bar afterwards for a few rounds of pool or darts. I've lived in Fl, Ca, NJ, high attitude places, not like that here, no pretentious bs...
Posted by: NDJim | January 18, 2011 at 03:41 PM
I played a show with my old punk band in Minot, ND once. Very nice people, but I recall a couple of them asking if they could "come along" on the tour. They seemed a little bored with life!
Mark--absolutely love Toronto! People who have never been there probably have no idea how diverse it is, and your transit situation puts American cities to shame. Porter Airlines is supposedly going to start flights from the downtown airport to Philly, so that would mean really easy access rather than having to go through Pearson.

Toronto was nice. It made for a nice weekend.
NDjim, how is the pizza in ND?

Back to football, good news. Chad P is attempting his FOURTH comeback. This guy is giving Brett Favre his run for his money. At least Penne is only 34. Let's see if he can stay in a whole series this time before rupturing his shoulder due to the breeziness in Miami in Sept.
Also, this one's for Craig and others who've said the fans are too pessimistic here, did anyone else see the stands at the end of the New England game? ALMOST COMPLETELY EMPTY. There's 2 min. left, down 2 scores, but you have the most dominant team of the last decade, and you walk out on them? So, fans are fickle anywhere. It's not about what you did last year or what you will do tomorrow, it's what have you done for me LATELY!!! Just goes to show you fans only care about winning wherever you go.

A classy night in DC is picking up a prostitute, you know, like the pols do it, taking her out to a nice restaurant (cloth napkins), hors d-oeuvres, drinks before and after, then out for some dancing, back to the Willard for some good old in-out, and best of all, put it ALL on your card (federal gov't) and make all you other sucker Americans pay for our fun through your taxes, lol.
NOW WHO WANTS TO LIVE IN DC? LOL!
Posted by: DC Dolfan | January 18, 2011 at 03:50 PM
Aloco, if the chicks there talk like Francess Mcdormand did in that movie, I'd probably shoot myself lol

I love Pennington but it's hard to imagine the team hitching their wagon to him again. Shoulder issues tend not to go away and I doubt he'd last more than a few games, let alone a season. Super guy, though, and I'm glad Ross (amid all his mistakes) has at least gone on record as wanting to find a place for him in the organization.

Joe, lemme explain something to you bud, I'm a DC transplant, but my entire family is from NY and FLA. I tended to hang mostly in NY. One thing I learned, is when people say they have "good pizza," they aren't talking about what we're talking about (unless it's a NY transplant that's moved to their area). I have to travel over an hour to get to a authentic NY pizza place here. So I'm sure the pizza is great to Jim. Just like the maple syrup from New England is great to us. Mark knows better. There IS no maple syrup that compares to Canada. Just like there is NO pizza that compares to NY. That's just how it is.

What's the best accent, the Fargo accent, or the accent of the McKenzie Bros. in Strange Brew? Or did I just stump a whole lot of youngsters with that reference?
Posted by: DC Dolfan | January 18, 2011 at 04:11 PM
DC, I know about the pizza, that's why I specifically asked LOL He said he lived in NJ for awhile so I would think he knows good pizza. If he says it's good, I trust him.
Now, if I could only lose the wife & kids, I'd be ND bound.
Posted by: Joe Schmoe | January 18, 2011 at 04:14 PM
DC--there's a place not too far away from you in Baltimore called B.O.P. (Brick Oven Pizza) that was outstanding the few times I went. It's on Broadway in Fells Point.

Haven't found Philly to have consistently great pizza aside from a few spots. That surprised me when I moved here.
Sandwiches, though, we rock.
Posted by: dr. roberts | January 18, 2011 at 04:17 PM
Oh yeah dr. roberts, I think I heard about that place. Actually, that's closer. I lived most of my life here in NoVa, so I'm more familiar with the south side, so I go all the way to Leesburg for my NY pizza. I know, middle of effing nowhere, but these NY Italians moved down and opened this pizza place and it's all that AND a bag of chips.
But I'm gonna try the Fells Point place. Gotta watch out for the junkies, but that's cool.
