ESPN reports Daboll is the new OC, question is why?

I know what you are thinking: You are simply wondering why him?

If ESPN's report that Brian Daboll will be hired as Miami's new offensive coordinator (The Herald has not as of this writing been able to independently confirm this), then you're asking why coach Tony Sparano hired a coordinator whose team scored fewer points than the Dolphins broken offense in 2010.

The Dolphins also scored more points than Daboll's Browns in 2009.

I don't have an explanation for you at this time. I'm hoping to get an explanation at some point. It's a tough day for that as I'm flying back from Boston today so timing might be an issue.

In the meantime, I can tell you Daboll (35 years old) is younger than Dan Henning, whom he is replacing. And he is an enthusiastic sort as the video below shows.

Daboll's NFL experience is out of the Bill Belichick coaching tree. He was hired in 2000 by the Patriots as a defensive assistant. He became wide receivers coach in 2002. He left the Pats in 2006 to go with Eric Mangini to the Jets as their QB coach.

In 2009, Daboll again migrated with Mangini, this time to Cleveland where he served as offensive coordinator. Obviously, he was on the outs in Cleveland when Mangini was fired. And now he is apparently on the ins with the Dolphins.

Does it really matter who we get. The Dolphins have a long way to go to catch up with the Pats & Jets. They might as well be at the bottom of the AFC east next year. Maybe the owner will realize that he needs a better front office & a better coaching staff.

THE MOST RIDICULOUS STATEMENT I'VE EVER READ GOES TO DB:

"Maybe we win 2 more games at best even with a top 5 qb.
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 17, 2011 at 05:40 PM"

God help us PLEASE! I give up!

I don't get this hire at all. Daboll has ZERO Dallas Cowboys connection!!! Why are we hiring outside of our farm team? Dan Henning is laughing his @ss off right now. I know that because I just talked to him at Walmart. He was the greeter.

CHAD.P ON DOBALL;;

(( HE MADE ME A BETTER QB AND I THINK HE WILL BLEND WHAT HE LEARNED FROM WIES,MACDANIEL AND BE GREAT FOR FINS ,IN FACT I WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR JUST FOR HIM ))........

no shame ,HE WANTS TO BE BACK,,,COMEDY CENTRAL.

AGAIN, DOBALL HAS 3 SB RINGS W/PATS .

HE'S 35 YEARS OLD .NOT MARRIED,SINGL LOOKING FOR A NICE GIRL WHO LIKES TO HAVE FUN .

CHAP Sr. IS COMING BACK?!?!?!?

That's the biggest WHY I've read all day. Why is he coming back? That's money down the drain at this point. 1 or 2 plays and he has another broken shoulder.

Please...get rid of Chad Sr. He's no Brett Favre that's for sure. Brett can still play without getting hurt every other second.

we dont need another cheerleader

pathetic is the word that comes to mind if they really hire this clown. on the other hand, does it really matter. the entire staff will be gone next january.

Damn! Ross handing out welfare checks if he keeps Chad Sr. on the roster. It's wasted money since Chad Sr. can't play without getting hurt.

Los Lobos,

chad.p wants TO COME BACK ONLY FOR US,HE LOVES THE FANS .lol

least r brown is gone.

I have been following this Blog for some time and must say alot of the rhetoric here is mindless BS. Does anyone here know anything about this guy . Well here ya go :Daboll began his NFL coaching career with the New England Patriots as a defensive coaching assistant in 2000 before being promoted to wide receivers coach for the Patriots in 2002. After the 2006 season, he left the Patriots to serve as the Jets' quarterbacks coach. In 2009, Daboll joined Eric Mangini's staff in Cleveland as offensive coordinator. As Browns Offensive Coordinator he developed an offense that was a hodge podge of other successful systems yet only used wide receivers as blockers and decoys. As a result he would preside over two of the worst offensive years in team history prompting his good friend, Eric Mangini, to be fired on January 3rd, 2011. This man has 3 Super Bowl rings as an Assistant Coach. He has busted his rearend from a volunteer to being where he is . Give the man a chance .

GUYS I DONT KNOW IF YOUR WITH ME BUT IF THESE GUYS DONT START MAKING SOME REAL MOVES I SAY WE START FINALLY STANDIGN UP AND DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING ON THE BOARDS

THIS IS PATHETIC ALREADY!!

THEN ROSS HAS TO EVEN THINK ABOUT WETHER HE IS GOIN TO RAISE TICKET PRICES!! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!

WE HAVE TO STAND UP AND BE HEARD!!

WE

JUST

WONT

SHOW

AT

THE

GAMES!! PERIOD!!

UNLESS WE START MAKING SOME AGRESSIVE MOVES IN THE OFFSEASON WHICH IS DOUBTFUL

I SEE US GOIN IN WITH HENNE .. SPARANO GETTING FIRED MID SEASON AND NOLAN BEING PROMOTED TO INTERIM HEAD COACH WHICH I WONT MIND

I KNOW IM NOT ALONE ON THIS PLENTY OF MY BUDDIES COWORKERS FAMILY ETC ETC ETC FEEL THIS WAY

WE HIT ALL MAJOR MESSAGE BOARD RADIO TALK SHOWS CBS NEW ABC FOX THE WORK AT THIS POINT .. I DONT GIVE A CRAP... WE HAVE TO TAKE OUR TEAM BACK... WE MAKE THEM BY GOIN TO THE GAMES... THEY DONT MAKE US!!

Seriously, can it get any worse? We hire this clown with ZERO experience.

Maybe the guy had the same problem in Cleveland that Henning had here, no QB to carry out his offence. Just saying.

kris,

Are you not the one on here that says stats are for 'losers'?.....and yet all you talk about is how the Browns offence finished up in 2009 and 2010 and how this guy has 'the appearance of a worse OC than the one we just had'. If you're not looking at stats and basing your decision on stats, then what are basing that conclusion on?

I'm always amazed that guys base their decisions on guys based on what they've done previously, as opposed to giving them a fresh start. Parcells was 3-10-1 his first coaching. Bellichik a lost cause his first head coaching gig in Cleveland. What if these guys had never been given another chance to coach again. Why does a coaches past record indicate what his future results will be? It's a different team and different circumstances. Not sure I'd want to tie my future to Delhomme or a rookie in McCoy either. It's hardly fair to base whether he's a good OC on having to coach an offence run by those guys.

People are forgetting this guy was Quterbacks Coach and Recievers Coach. Ever think maybe he will have the balls and brains to utilize creative calling for Marshal , Bess ,Fasano etc

After this hire I'd say a lockout in 2011 would be like a mercy killing for Dolphins fans.

NEWS ALERT....... WHEN MAGINI WAS TALKING TO ROSS AND IRELAND ,HE WAS TALKING ABOUT DOBALL

Richard,

Really good post at 6:22pm. This guy is being condemned before guys even know who he is. A lot guys wanted Tom Cable but who actually is he and what would he have done here? None of us know. It's just guys spouting off with no knowledge of the situation.

I'll admit I have no idea if this guy is going to be good or not but I'll certainly be suportive of this move until I realize he's not the guy.

good post graig @ 6;26

Wow, ALoco, that's GREAT!

Nice to know we consulted with the best before hiring this schlub!

hilarious seer, mangini could be the worst head coach since kotitte

I support every move Boss Ross & Jeffy make cause they've never let us down yet.

AGREE W/RICHARD AND GRAIG ,WE MUST GIVE HIM A CHANCE . SPARANO HAS TO FEEL COMFORTABLE W/HIS OWN OC ,LET GIVE THEM A CHANCE .I KNOW I WILL .

I mean at this stage of the game we have regressed so bad that any change is good change. People (myself included ) have wanted Hennings head on a pike . Now he is gone and we have young blood to take his place. Not only young blood but a guy who knows what it's like to wear a Super Bowl ring and who is dying to get the bad taste of Cleveland out of his mouth

gonna be a long waste of a year. really sucks

he will turn the dolphins offense around! to the 32nd ranked offense in the nfl. i here that, all the fans should have their own lockout against the dolphins.

The more I find out about this guy, the more I warm up to him. This may end up being the smartest move they've made in a while. Time will tell..they certainly got it right on defence last year.

Never heard of the guy and like you People didn't like that video at all. Still, the guy learned whatever he knows from the best of the best and more importantly to me, I have faith in Tony Sparano's decisions.(yeah, I know I'm going to get blasted here by the majority, so?).

SEER,

I KNOW,IF WE HIRE A LINE COOK ,WE WOULD BE DOING A BTTER JOB THAN FINS DOES TO HIRE A HC .

How could this guy seriously be any worse than Henning. It didn't work and that's what we wanted changed. It's been changed....

Now go and get us some playmakers for the offence and fix the OL.

craig come on man, this was the only guy they could find to actually take the job.

I LOVE THE TIMING WHEN CHAD.P COMES UP W/NEWS ONLY TO SERVE HIS OWN INTEREST .

Craig I agree with you . The minute I read his name I did a background search and this is a guy with some serious work ethic. For the beginning of his career he was an unpaid assistant and worked his way up .He was promoted by Belicheck (who like him or not)know his stuff. I like this idea better than McDaniels who Marshall would probably spit on or Childress who has no nuts

Please tell me that Daboll wasn't celebrating a field goal in the video!!!!

Oscar,

Good for you man...I'm with you. If the ship sinks let's go down with it. Screw the masses!!

BILL, DO WE NEED TO SAY IT AGAIN THAT MANY OC'S REFUSED TO INTERVIEW WITH DOLPHINS .IN THE END WE GOT TO SUPPORT OUR TEAM AND HOLD THE PLAYERS ACCOUNTABLE .

richard being a hard worker doesnt make u a smart ocord. watch some browns games from last year. they run hillis right, then left, then a 5 yard incompletion to robiskie. punt

At the same time, Richard, Mr. Daboll is getting into the same type of situation he was in Cleveland, no true NFL QB here either. Can he make Chad Henne that type of QB? Hmm..

like bill said they will all be gone next year. it will not get any better till they hit rock bottom. next year they will hit rock bottom. then dummy ross can clean house and we will all be talking about the same sh%t about 6 games in when they are 1-5. we will say it's time to start over.

Isn't DaBoll what you take a crap in?

I went to every home game this season . Sitting right in the 400 section with my dad and let me say we have the WORST #$%#^ FAN BASE there is . We stand and yell defense for all of 2 plays then sit and get quiet . Its sad that if you look on tv at any NY or NE game even in blizzards there are hardly any empty seats . It sucked watching my fav team ( grew up in Brooklyn as a Phin fan )lose game after game . Hell the best QB play came out of Wild Cat against Ten but WE MUST STAND BY OUR TEAM. You are either a fan or your not

GRAIG M IS THE VOICE OF REASON,FIRST I DIDN'T LIKE THE CHOICE BUT NOW ,I SORT OF LIKE HIM...GIVE THE GUY A CHANCE .

RICHARD,GOOD WORDS AND GOD POSTS

they finally made it to DaBoll! where have i been?

Now let's go grab Mike Shula from the Jacks as QB coach. Either that or go to Disney and hire Mickey.

Oscar I agree but give the guy a chance . As for Henne I dont think even Marino coaching him could make him good. Yes OC and OL help the QB , but reading defenses and finding open recievers isnt taught its natural ability . Henne doesnt have it . Simple math if Marshal has 2 people on him than someone is frigging open . If Marshall is 1 to 1 then throw him the damn ball . If no open recievers then chances are theres a running hole somewhere

ROB BUDINISKI HAVE BEEN NAMED THE CHARGERS .....OC

Bill,

How do you know that? Were you in the room with some of the other candidates? Obviously I didn't work out with Childress but who cares. I'm not even sure he would have been a good fit. McDaniels? Wouldn't have come here. McCoy? Would have stayed in Denver regardless. So who are we left with Bill? Cable? Chudzynski? The guy in Carolina? Some College guys? There wasn't a lot of guys available Bill, with all the HCs sticking around this year. We want a change from Henning....we got it! A young fresh, thinking coach. How is that a bad thing?

Of course it was not a field goal, that's just Armando being "funny".

aloco, you mean panthers.

fresh thinking? he loves the wildcat, how bout that. cant wait for more of that. only we dont have a cribbs to run it. yes thats really fresh

NEWS ALERT............... ROB CHUDANISKI HAS DECLINED AN OFFER TO JOIN THE DOLPHINS ,HE WAS NAMED 15 MINUTES AGO THE CHARGERS OC

Craig it's not a bad thing but people are frustrated (understanably so ) and cant see reason. We have to stop the friggin Merry go Round and settle on young coaches and players and build a new Dynasty. That is what makes NE so friggin good . They build for the future steadily . Maybe this whole coaching debacle and crap will serve as a wake up call to get this thing on track

SORRY... I KEPT SAYING THE CHARGERS WHERE HE USED TO WORK BUT IN FACT IT'S..... PANTHERS..

THANKS ..OSCAR

ne has belicheat and brady and a slew of picks every year. we have none of that!

Bill,

What would you have had Daboll call in Cleveland? They don't have the playmakers there. Ben Watson, a guy I like but who is starting to slow down, Hillis in a cloud of dust a mediocre Delhomme and a rookie in McCoy and no wide receivers of note to talk about. Not sure what he's supposed to be calling with that cast.

Richard, you're right the fans in Miami are lousy!! Fickle and all they want to do is complain. They certainly had a hand in Miami's 1-7 home record, whether they want to acknowledge that or not.

So many whiners. Turns out Daboll had a beast of a running attack. You guys remember the season P Hillis had? What about C McCoy. A rookie QB who everyone is saying had a very good season as rookie and is the future for Browns.

Daboll beat the Pats with less talent than 'phins have and has history with Beli. There's plenty of good reasons to hire the guy.

With Daboll in, no doubt now 'phins take Ingram at no. 15 overall. Playoffs in 2011, no doubt!
