I know what you are thinking: You are simply wondering why him?
If ESPN's report that Brian Daboll will be hired as Miami's new offensive coordinator (The Herald has not as of this writing been able to independently confirm this), then you're asking why coach Tony Sparano hired a coordinator whose team scored fewer points than the Dolphins broken offense in 2010.
The Dolphins also scored more points than Daboll's Browns in 2009.
I don't have an explanation for you at this time. I'm hoping to get an explanation at some point. It's a tough day for that as I'm flying back from Boston today so timing might be an issue.
In the meantime, I can tell you Daboll (35 years old) is younger than Dan Henning, whom he is replacing. And he is an enthusiastic sort as the video below shows.
Daboll's NFL experience is out of the Bill Belichick coaching tree. He was hired in 2000 by the Patriots as a defensive assistant. He became wide receivers coach in 2002. He left the Pats in 2006 to go with Eric Mangini to the Jets as their QB coach.
In 2009, Daboll again migrated with Mangini, this time to Cleveland where he served as offensive coordinator. Obviously, he was on the outs in Cleveland when Mangini was fired. And now he is apparently on the ins with the Dolphins.

So many whiners. Turns out Daboll had a beast of a running attack. You guys remember the season P Hillis had? What about C McCoy. A rookie QB who everyone is saying had a very good season as rookie and is the future for Browns.
Daboll beat the Pats with less talent than 'phins have and has history with Beli. There's plenty of good reasons to hire the guy.
With Daboll in, no doubt now 'phins take Ingram at no. 15 overall. Playoffs in 2011, no doubt!

I'm not taking anything away from the man, Richard, just stating the present QB situation down here. Do I think the Fins are going to go after a good QB? You bet.

THIS KINDA REMINDS ME WHEN BUMSTANT HIRE CHRIS FORESTER...THIS GUY IS ANOTHER ONE OF MORANO'S BUDDIES,...NOW WE KNOW WHY MANGINI CAME TO THE DOLPHINS LAST WEEK ..TO TELL THEM ABOUT THIS GUY..THIS SAYS 2 THINGS..1.NO ONE WANTED TO COME HERE..2.MORANO IS GONNA CALL THE PLAYS..
Posted by: BLACKCEROTE | January 17, 2011 at 06:57 PM
how is that? the fans are not out on the field. they should have manned-up and played better and that's all there is to it.
Posted by: dolphin 77 | January 17, 2011 at 06:58 PM
Craig your right . We are the 13th man and frankly we suck worse then Henne .
Bill your right they have Belicheck and picks but lets be fair in 3 years Captain Fist Pump still has a better W-L percentage then Belicheck had in his first 3 years and with less talent
Posted by: Richard | January 17, 2011 at 06:58 PM
yes def nobody wanted to come here. can u blame them, one year disaster and then up and move again
Posted by: bill_cnnrs@yahoo.com | January 17, 2011 at 06:59 PM
Richard,
FINALLY a voice of reason on here!! I've been saying that forever. Where have you been hising? The guys on here just want to keep giving up on guys and bringing in new guys all the time. How has that worked for us in the past?
If guys like Sparano and Henne were lazy guys or guys who didn't care then I'd be the first to say 'get rid of these guys' but they're not. Let's see what these guys can do with a new OC. Correct me if I'm wrong on this one but I think Daboll prefers to coach on the sidelines. I was never a fan of Henning being so detached from Henne, sitting so far removed from him. Who knows how often they even talked during games. I like the idea of a guy being close by and working closely with Henne. God knows what was tried before didn't work.

WE DON'T NEED INGRAM , CHAD.P IS COMING BACK .

SOMETHING TELLS ME WE'LL CALL HIM DUMBBELL NEXT YEAR!
Posted by: BLACKCEROTE | January 17, 2011 at 07:00 PM
Is it me or are the Dolphins doing everything in their power not to become a playoff team?
There's a lot of negative energy surrounding the Dolphins organization right now. Sparano better be able to pull something special out of his rear because at this rate anything less will probably mean he gets canned after next season.

ross and the dolphins robbed the fans with that lousy play. ross should give tickets away for free.
Posted by: dolphin 77 | January 17, 2011 at 07:01 PM
SureShockeR i understand your frustration but remember we are new coaching and ownership . It will take some time . Ross is a fan as well and I think he let his emotion as a fan cloud his business as an owner which led to poor management of the coaching situaion. I think it has been an eye opening season for all and hopefully change for the better
Posted by: Richard | January 17, 2011 at 07:02 PM
jt it could be like the movie major league, where the owner wants to lose so she can move the team

C'mon Man!!!

I have to think Chad Pennington will get consideration for QB coach if he decided to retire and why wouldn't he. Not saying he'll be good at it, just saying I think the opportunity will be there. I liked the Jim Fassel and Chris Palmer suggestions too.
Posted by: Craig M | January 17, 2011 at 07:03 PM
That's it.... Bill_cnnrs.... Ross and company wantto lose badly and move the team to LA.... Gid know Mr. ross loves to hang around celebs !
Posted by: TIme4achange | January 17, 2011 at 07:03 PM
he was talking in henne's ear the whole game. what do you mean who know's how often they talked?
Posted by: dolphin 77 | January 17, 2011 at 07:04 PM
SOME THING IS TELLING ME, WE WILL EXCEDE ALL .WE WILL BE IN THE PLAYPFFS AND THE DOLPHINS WILL RISE AGAIN.
DOBALL AND SPARANO FOR PREZ AND VICE PREZ .
Posted by: ALoco | January 17, 2011 at 07:04 PM
Look at the bright side. With Daboll coming onboard we're looking at bringing one of these guys in to compete with Henne for the starting QB job.
a) Brady Quinn
b) Jake Delhomme
c) Seneca Wallace
d) Derek Anderson
Actually this makes me curious to see what Tom Brandstater can do and/or pray that they resign Tyler Thigpen.

WE CANT KEEP SETTLING FOR MEDIOCRACY....
WE DONT HAVE 8 DRAFT PICKS IN THE 1ST 4 ROUNDS OF THE DRAFT
HOW CREATIVE WAS CLEVELANDS PLAY CALLING??
Posted by: SureShockeR | January 17, 2011 at 07:04 PM
Yeah, that's another possibility, ALoca, that TS brought him here to install the offence, perhaps work with the QB's, but Tony will call the plays. Just way too early to be reasonably sure.
Posted by: oscar canosa | January 17, 2011 at 07:05 PM
fassel and trestman would of been much much better options. lets open this garbage offense up and try to win a game for once instead of plodding along
Posted by: bill_cnnrs@yahoo.com | January 17, 2011 at 07:05 PM
Craig I havent been hiding lol . The ability to post was blocked at my job til now lol. Now that I know I can post I will do so when I work Mon , Thur, Fri . Sorry no pc at home and thats when I have my little boy so wouldnt post anyway. I think Henning never went to sidelines to call plays for fear of assasination attempts lol

Richard,
Careful on here....some of these guys eat their young....LOL.....they can get vicious if you don't see things they're way. It's OK to have an opinion, as long as it's the same as theirs....LOL..
Cheers

Only posting once because this blog has become the biggest bunch of out of state crybabies ever. Daboll wouldn't have been my choice, but I'm certainly going to give him the opportunity to prove himself. I loved the fact when we played Cleveland he used the tight end all day long to beat us. Unlike Henning, he found something that worked and stuck with it. Just because he had a tough few years at Cleveland doesn't mean squat. I'm just hoping more and more of you fake fans keep leaving the blog and team so I don't have to keep reading a bunch of bullshyt. Leave all the negative comments you want cause I won't be reading them, they are a waste of time, just like your lives. Hoping the majority of you are freezing ur balls off and ur life suks. I get enjoyment out of that, and the fact you all pay my salary. Have a great evening crying and complaining, life is good. GO FINS!!!

SOMEONE ENLIGHTEN ME ON WHY THIS WAS A GOOD HIRE??
WHAT IS GOIN TO SEPERATE US FROM THE PACK IN OUR DIVISION?
WHATS MAKES DABOLL A CREATIVE AND UNPEREDICATBLE PLAY CALLER?
Posted by: SureShockeR | January 17, 2011 at 07:09 PM
Lol dude I'm a Dolphin who was raised in Brooklyn NY til 5 years ago and I'm 30 . I doubt they can hurt me much lol.
ALoco I would honestly like us to sign Young , draft down to recoup 2nd Round pick , Then get RB or TE in first ,round QB in second then the rest of draft on the OL

FREEZING YOUR BALLS OFF.... CLASSIC BOBBYD12
Posted by: ALoco | January 17, 2011 at 07:10 PM
DC....I think that you mistook my post about Seneca Wallace. My point was that he has experience with this coordinator. Since time may be an issue. It may be useful to have someone here at least familiar with his scheme. I wasn't saying that Wallace will be the savior here. But if nothing else competition for Chad Henne. And Think if Henne can't beat out Seneca Wallace he will probably be released. I think that there will be a combination of quarterbacks competing for the number 1. Wallace has proven he can be a serviceable backup. Nothing wrong with some veteran experience. This is the scenario I envision going into training camp.... We sign the best available free agent. I don't know who will be available, don't have any idea of who it will be. Sign another vet.Say wallace, just because he knows the system. Henne, Brandstater, and a mid to late round draft pick. That gives us 5 qb's. to go into camp. If Henne cannot at least cement himself as a number 2. I could see him being outright released.
Posted by: Darryl Dunphy | January 17, 2011 at 07:11 PM
SureShockeR until you can give a solid reason why its a bad hire I say give the guy a chance . Come on man he was stuck in Cleveland he deserves a break for that . The rest of his career is solid
Posted by: Richard | January 17, 2011 at 07:12 PM
Well I guess he can only drop us two spots worse than we were last year...why is my Miami team in such shambles right now? Honestly if you think for one minute that we are going to be good next year..keep dreaming. We have to many holes to fill right now. I actually believe that we should bomb out to make sure we get Luck in 2012. And don't question my fan-hood to Miami because I've have been and always will be a Fin Fan...but I'm also realistic...and I see the Patty's with a ton of draft picks next year..they will kill us next year...amd if the stinkin jets keep most if their players they will kill us again too next year. Ross really killed us by keeping Tony on...if I was going for a job in Miami I would have to pass on the job offer
Posted by: cowkilla | January 17, 2011 at 07:12 PM
Maybe this is Sparano's way of shutting up all Henning haters, he's saying "Seeee??!!!, Henning wasn't the worst in the league, I found someone even worse and to prove it Im going to hire him !!!!"
Posted by: Carlos | January 17, 2011 at 07:12 PM
Babalooooooooo eh!! Ross fails to realize that his market share for the Fins will be shrinking exponentially between now and the draft. It will be close to zero if another blunder occurs in the draft. That will be the final nail in the coffin.
I just can't believe the ineptitude of Ross and Company. It is mind boggling.
Ai ya yai... que cosa mas grande. Ese Ross es un puto caramba...!

THE DOLPHINS IRELAND AND SPARANO HAVE LEAKED SOME INFO ABOUT THE TEAM WILL IN FACT DRAFT A QB IN THEIR FIRST ROUND BY MOVING UP .
Posted by: ALoco | January 17, 2011 at 07:14 PM
THE DOLPHINS CAN'T AFFORD TO NOT DRAFT A QB IN THE FIRST ROUND AND SIGN ORTON OR YOUNG ,THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE ...............
ALL OTHER NEWS ARE JUST CRAP ,OC OR WHAT EVER .

That would be cool to we havent used 1st pick for QB since Marino . So long as they do something to fix the offense I'll be happy.
Now how bout some thing positive instead of all this negative. Was our defense the bomb this year or what . I only see this defense getting much better and a force to be recond with
Posted by: Richard | January 17, 2011 at 07:17 PM
I have to agree with Shocker...we have the jets, NE, and up and coming Buff in our division...how the heck do you see us moving anywhere anytime soon with the greatest show on earth (not)
The Ringling Sparano Bros. and Ireland and Ross's Circus????

I'm sure Sparano is pumping his fist to land someone of such great stature as Daboll. The best we could do was a guy who led the 2nd worst offense in the league?

ORTON IS CONSISTENT
VINCE NOT SO CONSISTENT.. DONT THINK NIETHER ARE THE ANSWER
FOR THAT WE GET A BETTER VERSION WHICH IS TO BE SEEN IN NEWTON
IF WE CAN GET A QB THAT WE DONT HAVE TO DEVELOPE IN FA WE HAVE TO GO RB FIRST
AND WE SHOULD TRY AND TRADE OUR PICK TO RECOUP OUR SECOND ROUNDER WHICH SEEMS UNLIKELY UNLESS SOMELIKE THE RAIDERS GETS DESPERATE
RBS ARE GOIN TO DROP INTO IN THE ROUND
IF WE DONT PICK UP SOME1 LIKE SPROLES AND SOMEONE LIKE DEMARCO MURRAY DROPS WE SHOULD PICK HIM UP IN THE LATERS ROUNDS POSSIBLY 2ND OR EARLY THIRD HE HAS GOOD HANDS AND CAN RETURN KICKS
ALL THE QBS IN THE DRAFT NEED TO DEVELOPE BUT I LIKE MALLET THE MOST ..HE CAN MAKE ALL THE THROWS IF HE DOESNT FALL I DONT THINK GABBERT WILL EITHER... HOPEFULLY THEY DO
ALL THIS REAMINS TO BE SEEN FROM HERE TILL THEN
THE COMBINE AND PRODAYS WILL CHANGE ALOT

Richard....i'm enjoying your post....but just as you told somebody that they should provide reasons DaBoll won't succeed.....other than optimisim you haven't proved and substance either...
I believe the past is the best predictor of thr future and when I look at what I see...when its HIS show.....i'm not impressed.....to me this is like trading back to get ORDICK....when DEZ BRYANT was still on the board.....
Past events predicting the future...even back then.....

Im also younger than Henning, why wasn't I considered for this job ??? Im pretty good at Madden with the PS, actually Im average, well to tell you the truth I suck pretty bad but not as much as the Browns thats for sure !!!!!!!!!

Is it time to start protesting Stephen Ross to try to get him to sell the team?
Posted by: mrmikejohnson | January 17, 2011 at 07:30 PM
MALLET WOULD BE MY 1ST CHOICE HE IS NOT THAT MOBILE IN THE POCKET BUT NEITHER IS BRADY
BRADY HAS GOOD POCKET PRESENCE ADN AWARNESS
AND I THINK THAT WILL BE EASIER TO TEACH MALLET THEN ACCUARACY ETC
RB'S I LIKE DEMARCO MURRAY IN THE LATER ROUNDS
WE NEED A TE
WE NEED ANOTHER CB
WE NEED A SOLID CENTER
FA AGENTS IF CAN GET I LIKE SPROLES AND RONNIE COMBO CUZ ITS GOIN TO HARD TO AFFORD DEANGELO WILLIAMS AND ANOTHER RB... JEROME HARRISON MIGHT BE OUT THERE HMMM??
SPROLES CAN BE A REGGIE BUSH TYPE BACK DUAL THREAT AND HELP SPECIAL TEAMS OUT

Craig M....I'm not one of the guys that said "stats are for losers".....I think you have me confused with DC Dolfan......
I have said that you can make stats say what you want them to say....like how Chad Henne will have 330 plus yards passing......be 25-32....and 1 TD....and we LOSE.....and you say How in the Hell did that happen....
Its because....when we look at the stats we find that 20 of those passes were swing passes that went to the RB.....and the other 5 were 10 yard outs.....
I'm the guy who says stats can be manipulated to say what you want them to say......
Posted by: Kris | January 17, 2011 at 07:34 PM
Can we just hire Matt Millen and get it over with? We are on the highway to loserville already, we might as well get into the express lane.
