Live blog of Jets vs. Steelers starts now ... here

PITTSBURGH -- Will I ever cover my own team in the AFC Championship game?

Please, someone answer me.

The Dolphins are not here. The comment i get most from writers from around the country covering this game is, "What the (bleep) is going on down there?"

My answer: "I do not know. I am not responsible."

I do know the Dolphins are not a total disaster. The Dolphins split two games with these Jets. The Dolphins lost by one point to Pittsburgh. They do not totally lack ability to compete.

Anyway, let's watch this game and see what team earns the right to play the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. Let's see happens.

The live blog starts in the comments section below.

Mando,

You're slipping!!! You see, I normally Google " Miami Dolphins" to get to this blog. It kinda tells me how things are going. And, usually your blog shows up on the 1st page. If things are really jumping, it'll show up somewhere around the middle or the top of the first page. Not so good, it'll be around the bottom of the page. When things have really gone downhill, well you're on page 2 or further down still. Well, you're now slightly below the middle of page 2! And, falling fast according to Google! Shame on you! That's what happens when you're preoccupied elsewhere.

anyone else see the video of Mark sanchez picking a booger and wiping it on one of his coaches during the steelers game?> Hilarious

Hey....I just read that theres a Live Blog for the jets Steelers game!

CAN'T WAIT!

Good morning Dolfans. Another great day in paradise. Great stories out right now, of course, Mando is probably too busy rubbing his rosary beads to, you know, do his job!!!

But, that's ok, cause y'all got me.

Topic A: This whole Jay Cutler fiasco. I tell you, we've become a country of haters. Anyone else see how POORLY the guy was playing? Who CARES if he was really hurt, should've tried to stay in, blah, blah, blah. Bigger issue, he was sucking it up. The 3rd-string guy actually looked better and made throw Jay didn't. So, if I'm Lovie and the Bears, I'm HAPPY Jay didn't try to come back in, it wasn't his day.

BUT, that got me to thinking about our Savior, Chad Henne. Say what you want about the big oaf, inconsistent, scared of his shadow, couldn't hit sand if he was throwing on South Beach, but one thing, the kid is tough. He took some shots during the year that other QBs would have ended their season on, and got up and went back to the huddle. So, I give Chad much respect for his toughness (that's an intangible).

Topic B: Anyone read what Cromartie said about the CBA? Let's just say the Republicans are gonna have him speak at their CPAC convention, lol. No, it was actually a refreshing comment ripping (mostly) his own union, but the league and the owners as well. The gist was he thinks everyone gets paid enough as it is, and is shameful towards the people this will affect (i.e. concession workers, franchise business staff, etc.).

Pretty mature comment from a millionaire towards his millionaire buddies and billionaire bosses. Very refreshing to hear from a pro athlete.

DC....refreshing....he got HIS this year....and didn't he hold out to do it?.....I believe so if memor serves me correct....

Cutler is A wussy....plain and simple.....it may not have been his half....but it still could have been his game....but now he and we.....will never know....that we includes his teammates

One more thing, it'll be interesting to see the level of commitment this team has during the offseason. They won't be monitored or have any team contact, so they need to train independently. I've read other teams (J-E-T-S) are doing like a buddy-buddy system, calling each other to make sure they are keeping fit. I'm sure players will train together on their own (without direction from coaches).

What will our team do? Are they in the MOOD to train together? Do they CONSIDER themselves part of a team? This team? Do they have the drive to put the work in to improve? These are all questions that will be asked (I don't know if we'll get an answer) after March 4, when the CBA ends. If Sparano/Daboll/Nolan are smart (and thinking about what the Pats and Jets are most likely telling their players) they will make sure things happen even if they can't "officially" happen. Like, "oh, funny seeing you all here at this Broward County indoor facility. While we're here, let's work out, run some plays." Think Belichick isn't telling his guys, "look, we're an American RUGBY team in training. If anyone asks, we're the New England Kiwis. We'll use a rugby ball as a decoy. BUT, we'll be running NFL plays. Under MY direction. This isn't exactly legal, but no one said we can't get together and learn rugby, hahahaha."

We need to stay one step ahead if we want to compete in 2011.

kris, it's refreshing that he one of the only ones that says, "get a deal done." That's with the understanding that his side won't get all it wants. He even intimated that his teammates (and other players) won't like him criticizing their own union.

Yes, Cromartie did get a fat, juicy contract. But what's wrong with that? Happens in business all the time. Someone gets an offer letter, and asks for more. You're entitled to ask for what you believe you're worth (it's up to the owner to decide if you really are worth that). So I don't really hold it against a player if there's a contract dispute. A lot of times they are legitimate.

But, Cromartie specifically said, "this is my livelihood. I love to play football. That's what I do." And, that's very refreshing. The guy wants to play. He wants the sides to stop talking through the media and sit down and work it out. AND, he thinks his side is as much to blame as the other.

You're telling me you don't find that refreshing?

What in the world are they spraying?

Barium salts

All toxic aerosols being sprayed daily in your skies in the form of chemtrails from jets

No not NY JETS loser of AFC championship NFL game

NEVADA QB COLIN KAEPERNICK WAS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE PLAYER ON MONDAY ,CBS AND NFL AGREED THAT HE JUMPED TO THE ELITE QB ORDER ,DOLPHINS HAVE SHOWED A LOT OF INTEREST IN THE PLAYER,

That was Cromartie...I thought it was Revis....I was only glancing at the TV....while the wife was interupting the TV....

Yes...that put it in a different light....It was Revis that held out this year.....

So yeah...I respect that...and hopefully more players will come out back him...

kris, you ever been sick and stayed home from work? Ever stayed home on a snow day? Ever injured yourself in a sporting event and had to leave the game?

If so, then you have no right to criticize Cutler (right probably isn't the right word, maybe you have no leg to stand on, sorry for the pun).

Also, are you a doctor? Orthopedic surgeon? Then you also don't have any authority to determine the level of Cutler's injury. It's a sprained MCL. Legitimate injury. Sure, Philip Rivers played last year with a torn LCL (worse injury), but that's him. Everyone is different. And if Cutler wasn't playing well anyway, what makes you think he'd of played better on one leg? That's what backups are for. And, that's football, stuff happens. I got no problem with Cutler sitting out the game if he didn't want to risk it. It's his body, his life.

agree with DC Cutler isn't at fault i thinnk he will bounce back and the Bears are obviously a better team with him as the QB

DC.....if Cutler is YOUR teammate....and of course in public you degfend him....but in private...when it's just the two of you....you know that you can only go as far as him arm takes you.....do you question him....do you question his heart....He was having a crappy game.....but I still take him over the bears 3rd string QB on his best day.....he is paid millions of dollars to play.....

Like Herm Edwards said.....there's hurt and then theres injured.....and theres a difference

CAM NEWTON WORKING WITH THE SAME QB COACH GORGE WITFIELD WHO WAS WAS ROTH ROSENBERGER DURING HIS 4 GAME SUSPENSION .

HE'S GETTING READY FOR THE NFL COMBINE .HE WILL BE DRAFTED BY PICK 6 FOR SURE .

THE OWNER OF CIN SAID,(( WE WILL NOT TRADE OUR QB IN HIS PRIME )).

Now, Mike Golic doesn't like the way Cutler looks on the sideline (mopey, doesn't pump his team up, isn't talking with his offensive players). And he's critical of Cutler for that.

THERE, I agree (and am equally critical). That's something I don't like about our QB (Henne). Watch Brady, watch Rivers, watch Peyton, Brees. These guys are all up in their players' faces, going over plays, talking about what to do next, getting on the same page. LOVE THAT!

See any of that on our sideline? Well, on defense I do. Can't remember EVER seeing it on offense (other than Marshall yelling at Henne). But if Henne was a guy who'd come over to the RECEIVERS and talk about what just happened or what needs to happen, maybe Marshall wouldn't be looking for him to yell all the time.

Just a small difference between how winners act and how mediocre teams act.

DC.....not sure what staying home on a snow day when I was in grade school and sitting out the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP game have to do with each other...but you rationalize it any way you want....

No I am not a doctor...never been to med school...however....on 105.7 the FAN radio station this morning they did have a orthopedic surgeon on.....he stated...that YES CUTLER COULD HAVE PLAYED ON THAT INJURY.....and that it is rare that doctors make that call....it is usually the players decision...not saying CHI doesn't do things differnt than Baltimore....but that is 1 doctors EXPERT OPINION.....

And for the record....when I did play (WR/SS).....i also tore my MCL....in my left knee....back in 1992....against the doctors advice and the coaches better judgement...they let me back in the game.....

Long Story short...I caught the game winning TD pass.....I was 17...and wasn't getting paid a dime

kris, yes, as him teammate, I feel him out. Was it serious? Could he have tried to run on it? Was his heart in the game? Yes, I try to understand all of that privately.

That's how you do it, in private, as a concerned teammate just wanting to make sure everyone was pulling their weight and doing everything they can to compete and win.

But these other 'tards (other players) should be minding their own business thinking about what THEY can do from their SOFA to be in Cutler's position (Championship game) next year.

If a Dolphin would have tweeted anything, I'd have tweeted back: tell me again when you've played in one of these games, then we'll talk about how tough you'd be in the game? You're not even tough enough to GET to the game! You're a joke, you're not a football player (right now you're a fan, just like me).

That's my response to all the tweeters.

ANOTHER QB TO KEEP EYES ON TYROD TAYLOR THE VIRGINA TEC QB WHO WAS THE ONL QB WH COMPLETED MORE THAN 70 PERCENT OF HIS PASSES AND KNOWN FOR HIS MOBILITY AND HIS RUNNING SKILLS .

I do agree with the tweets....leave the analyzing of the atheletse to the analyst...and the fans....players should be careful what they say....the microscope might be on them next....

kris, the point was we all make personal decisions (I was talking more a snow day from work, not school, like when the building is open, yet people stay home because they feel it's too dangerous or they can't get out of their neighborhood).

And to the doctor's point, and your personal story (which, I congratulate you on, seriously, very impressive and inspirational), I understand some people might have played, did play, could have played with the same injury. But, like the doctor said, it's a personal decision. I don't know if you had any hopes of going on to play college ball or anything, but you could have seriously injured your knee and never been able to play again. You chose to chance it, for your team, and that's great. Cutler didn't. Maybe it hurt too much (people have different levels of tolerance). Maybe he thought he wasn't mobile enough (they do have a suspect oline).

Point is, he didn't feel he could go. Like you said, as his teammate, you go make sure his head and heart was in the right place, then you move on (or dump him and see if you can win with someone else). But I'm sure you'll see him there next year if/when there's football.

No doubt DC...Cutler isn't going anywhere.....he is the Bears starting QB...just as he would be for about 15-20 other teams in the NFL...heart or no heart...he has a LIVE ARM.....

I think the fact that so many people (players, former and current) have something to say is because he has a crappy reputaion.....most of this he brought on himself wit his past behaviors....he made this bed...he has to lay in it....

Just to finish of the story....I was taken off of Defence because I could no longer tackle.....No explosion from the legs to drive thu the ball carrier...got dragged a few times....but I could still run....and somewhat jump....it was all adrenaline

Hey man, heart of a lion. I respect your effort (that's what I love to see in sport). I wrestled after a horrible stinger once in a district final. Had to get an MRI after, and my left arm felt almost paralyzed. But I stayed in. So, trust me, I think if it was me, I'd be like Rivers (and you), I'd need to be carted off the field not to play.

But I don't like to criticize other athletes since it's a health thing and everyone's bodies are different.

DC...apperciate the story....stingers are no joke.....I got my firstb one ever about a year ago.....that was as close to tears as I have been sice I was a kid.....those things are no joke....its like a pinched nerve right?....in any case I wound up in the emergency room....that how bad that sh*t hurt.....

I got all the respect in the worl for a person who could still compete after getting one of those....

DC,

Good morning, man. I can see you're in fine form this morning. I want what you are drinking!....LOL.

I just wanted to add to your earlier comments, about Henne not being in people's faces and stuff, maybe not even appearing to be part of the team. I agree with you on that and while I don't think it's his personality, I do think it's something he has to work on and get better at. You're right it's all part of being a leader and the really good ones do that (I'll include Hasselback in that conversation of guys who do it too). Not sure I'd include Manning in that conversation though. There are MANY times you see him sitting alone on the sidelines, either studying pictures or even moping. It's a mute point but I don't think it's Manning's strength either. He strikes me as a bit of a loner but where he trumps just about everyone is his intelligence, his preparation and his attention to detail. Just wanted to give my two cents in on this.

and DC...to your last point....

"But I don't like to criticize other athletes since it's a health thing and everyone's bodies are different".

I think people's hearts are differnt....and you can only measure the size of someone's heart during adversity not good fortune....

In my opinion....Cutler's heart doesn't measure up......

Jay Cutler is pathetic.

Bears are pathetic.

Bears fans are pathetic.

kris, yeah, stinger=pinched nerve. I can see how you'd go to the hospital. I felt like I was paralyzed. My neck got all hot, thought I really did damage. Got an MRI and was told it would never go away. I played football in the neighborhood about a year later (of course, no pads), hit a guy and got another one. I'm much more careful now.

Craig, lol, high on life bro. Did you like my props for Henne's toughness? Trying to give the guy a break. And want him to be a leader too (like you). He can do it. On Manning, I've seen both. When I see him alone, studying, to me it's just he's focused and wants to see what occurred or what he missed. But I do see him talking up his guys too, or coming off the field figuring out what just happened. I guess my larger point was I've NEVER seen Henne do that (where he was the instigator). Have you? Not trying to say he doesn't do it, I've just never noticed it.

One more thing I saw. You guys see the story on what teams spent on personnel this past year. Miami was like 18th. Actually, the standings mirrored what was spent. NE spent the most (4th in NFL) and won the division. NYJ next most (like 7th), 2nd in AFC East. Us next (18th), 3rd in division and rounding out the bottom, Bills (29th).

The spin the writer tried to put on it was we were in range with about 4-5 other Playoff teams, but actually we were at the back of those teams (12-16). So, what I take out of that is we need to spend more to get better quality players here. Not spend like Redskins (where you get nothing in return), but if you're at the back of spending on personnel in the NFL, most likely you're not serious about being competitive. I hope Ross keeps that in mind (instead of thinking about spending millions on coaches and VP's of football operations and what not).

DC,

MIAMI GOING ON THE RIGHT TRACK RE SPENDING ,SINCE NO QB YET WHY SPEND ALL THAT MONEY PLUS THE STADIUM IS 0NE FOURTH EMPTY.

YOU BETTER BY TICKETS FOR YOURSELF AND FRIENDS DC .

In RE to the Cutler thing....I just have a hard time believing that the guy fought this hard to get where he is....get an opportunity to play in a game like that....have an opportunity to advance to the SB, etc and he just gave up. I think if he could have played he would have played. It's not like the guy suddenly turned into a wuss....how many freakin' times was he sacked this year and kept going? He also has type I diabetes...not something that is easy to play with at any level...hell, it's not easy for a type I diabetic with a desk job to perform at an optimal level all the time.

It seemed pretty apparent to me that he couldn't plant....ergo errant passes, etc. He also had no mobility, making him a sitting duck behind an already suspect O-line.

I think it's pretty much his demeanor that's gotten him all this flack....but that's his demeanor and I doubt that will change. Who knows, maybe he and coach Lovie did exchange some words and this wasn't caught on camera. Wouldn't surprise me.

Lastly, where is a new blog? I look forward to getting on here at some point pretty much daily and this is really frustrating.

THERE'S NO REASON TO WRITE A NEW BLOG,THE JETS ARE OUT,THE SEASON IS OVER .

wolf, agreed on Cutler.

ALoco, it's the chicken/egg debate. No fans because it's no fun watching losers. Bring in the talent, increase the interest, increase the ticket sales and stadium capacity. Don't spend on players, get mediocrity, and fans choose to go sunbathing.

But, I'm not the one who needs to buy tix. Sure, I do my part and try to come to a game every season or two. But I'm an out-of-stater. There's a whole bunch of fans in-state who are staying away. They need to buy tix to support their local team. If there's a blackout, I'm cool, I'll still see the game. But they won't, so it's more on them to show up at games.
