PITTSBURGH -- Will I ever cover my own team in the AFC Championship game?
Please, someone answer me.
The Dolphins are not here. The comment i get most from writers from around the country covering this game is, "What the (bleep) is going on down there?"
My answer: "I do not know. I am not responsible."
I do know the Dolphins are not a total disaster. The Dolphins split two games with these Jets. The Dolphins lost by one point to Pittsburgh. They do not totally lack ability to compete.
Anyway, let's watch this game and see what team earns the right to play the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. Let's see happens.
The live blog starts in the comments section below.

DC ,
IT'S THE ECONOMY MORE THAN ANY THING .STILL ,EVEN WHEN YOU GO WATCH THE GAME ,MARSHALL GIVES YOU A FIT AND LOSE THE GAME IGNORING ALL THESE FANS WHO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY TO COME TO THE GAME .

DC...not to beat a dead horse because we covered this pretty well...but it just hit me....think about Jake Long...playing with a seperated shoulder....FOR NOTHING....FOR WEEKS....
and Cutler can't suck it up for 1 game....for the CHANCE to play another....a game that many QB never even get the chance to compete for....I could go on and on....but i'm sure you get my point
Posted by: Kris | January 25, 2011 at 11:22 AM
CUTLER DID THE RIGHT THING BY NOT RISKING ENDING HIS PLAYING DAYS BY GETTING OUT OF THE GAME,IT'S NOT BOXING ,WHO'S BIGGER AND STRONGER.
Posted by: ALoco | January 25, 2011 at 11:24 AM
kris, you're right (about Long). I don't put Cutler anywhere NEAR Long's level of heart and commitment and pain threshold. Like night and day. Agree there with you.
Posted by: DC Dolfan | January 25, 2011 at 11:27 AM
Wofman1313....
I disagree whole-heartedly....Big Ben gets his nose broken in the 1st quarter of the Ravens-Steelers regular season finnale.....he doesn't miss a play....
i'm sure you know how much a puch in the nose hurts....and how every time you move it hurts when your nose hurts....
I huess my point is either you got it or you don't.....it being heart....and in my opinion...Cutler only confirmed what alot of people already thought....
Posted by: Kris | January 25, 2011 at 11:29 AM
DC - Yeah, I agree in RE to spending on some $$$ on talent. As with many things, you often get what you pay for.
Actually, I've never been to a Dolphin home game and would love to go. I keep trying to plan an October excursion to go see a game for my birthday, but it never seems to happen. I have lived in New Mexico now for about 25 years (less a couple of short stints in San Diego) so it's quite a haul, and unfortunately, football season is also one of my busiest seasons at work.
Fortunately I have been able to catch some away games, here and there, but it's been awhile.
I'm always a little saddened when I plop down on my couch, click on my NFL package (only way I'm seeing a Fin game out here)...and the seats are empty.

I'm glad to have Jake Long on MY TEAM....
I wonder if he's worth a #1 draft pick....
Posted by: Kris | January 25, 2011 at 11:31 AM
Kris - but you can still plant and move around with a busted nose.
Posted by: wolfman1313 | January 25, 2011 at 11:31 AM
Wolfman,
You can plant and move on a spained knee....if your willing to put up with the pain....it all depends on what your willing to stand for....
Imagine Jake long with a seperated shoulder...and 300 pound D-Linemen pushing and punching it for 3 hrs....
Lets not for get PPhillip Rivers a QB...playing with a torn MCL...
So it can be done....it has been done...the question is...are you willing to do it?
Posted by: Kris | January 25, 2011 at 11:40 AM
Rivers had a torn LCL (much worse injury). So he's definitely a tough mo-fo.
Posted by: DC Dolfan | January 25, 2011 at 11:41 AM
Didn't Henne have the exact same injury this season? Wasn't he pulled and didn't he miss the following game?
I question Henne's ability to effectively QB a team but not the guys toughness.
You are correct, there are differing levels of pain tollerance for different players. I generally don't see any QB being as tough as an O-lineman.
Was also listening to Dungy this morning....he stated that if he made the decision to pull a guy for injury or whatever....that's just the way it is. He stated that he's never had a player override that decision. So maybe this is the same deal....maybe Lovie said tough s&*t...you're not going back in. Maybe the truth is somewhere in between. Maybe Lovie decided that the injury was a good excuse to pull his ineffective QB. Hell, maybe Cutler was have a blood sugar crash related to his diabetes.
All I'm saying is that there is probably more to this story than the reactionary stuff that is going on.

Good Morning Finatics, Same blog for two days Huh, I guess mando And Darlington Drink a little to much Patron up in Pittsburgh...
Posted by: Cuban Menace | January 25, 2011 at 11:48 AM
KRIS,
I DOUBT IT VERY MUCH LONG PLAYING W/REAL SEPARATED SHOULDER,THERE'S A SEPARATED SHOULDER AND ANOTHER SEPARATED SHOULDER . I THINK WHAT HE HAS A MILD ONE , NO ONE WOULD RISK IT ALL TO PROVE HE'S SUPERMAN .
Posted by: ALoco | January 25, 2011 at 11:50 AM
Theres always more to the story than we will get Wolfman....and you make some valid points....especially
"Maybe Lovie decided that the injury was a good excuse to pull his ineffective QB".
and I understand where Dungy comes from....but I am more of a Herm Edwards kinda guy.....
"There's hurt and then ther's njured....which one are you"...differing doctors I heard this morning gave differing opinions.....
I am of the opinion that you play....I don't know if I am as extreme as Rinnie Lott who actually had his staff cut off the TIP OF HIS FINGER...so he could play....but I like to think I fall somewhere in that circle....
I guess that era is comming to an end
Posted by: Kris | January 25, 2011 at 11:55 AM
Aloco....mild or otherwise Jake Long's toughness is beyond question....he has earned that....
The reason Cutler is being scurtinized is because he earned that as well.....
None of the reps are given....they are earned

Posted by: cowkilla | January 25, 2011 at 12:10 PM
I hear other Fla. newspapers are actually reporting Senior Bowl news. Mando? Oh Mando?
The reason why Cutler is attracting so much attention is his apparent nonchalant attitude...doesn't show a lot of emotion. Sounds kind of familiar, doesn't it?

Guys Dont let Aloco confuse you into thinking he's a Dolt, on the contrary, The man is a beast on financial matters and is probably vacationing at this moment in West Palm beach... Sorry Aloco, had to set this people straight about you, I hope I did'nt blow your cover.... BTW, What's hot for a short term, got 35 Gs to spend, looking for at least a 7 to 9% return....

Question of the day: Does the President mention the Miami Dolphins in the SOTU tonight?
As in, "our economic situation is improving tepidly. We were in a very serious downturn last year. Now, we're back to level ground, but without much excitement, much like the Miami Dolphins." (applause from Congress)

Cuban, you vastly over rate Aloco's financial knowledge. I've been trading the markets for years. He knowledge is quite elementary, like his fball knowledge, mostly just repeating headline stuff. No way he is rich and vacationing, he is just too ignorant about too many things to be in that league.
Posted by: Fidel | January 25, 2011 at 12:22 PM
The real question in RE to the Chicago Bears/Jay Cutler........who in the hell made Collins the back up? That guy shouldn't even be in the league.

UCONN Booster who donated $3million to the university now wants his money back. He was in an absolute tirade over the hiring of Paul Pasquali as football coach!
Poor Pasquali, they even know he sucks at the college football level. Could the disgruntled booster also be a Dolphin fan? LOL...........
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 25, 2011 at 12:41 PM
I know no players can be traded until after the season…and maybe not until the CBA is signed….but if the Dolphins aren’t talking to the Bengals then something is wrong….Palmer may not be worth a number 1 draft pick…but I would give up a fourth and Henne…Seems to me that both can use a change of scenery and a fresh start to their careers…..
When it comes to acquiring a veteran QB…I would say we have the best position of all teams that need a QB….providing the “experts” haven’t soured on Henne the way most of us fans have…..
Because Henne isn’t a total bust he can be touted as a strong arm QB who just needs the a different setting…..any team trying to get rid of their vet should be beating down our door trying to make a trade….
And in no way does trading Henne hurt our position to draft a QB in the 1st RD…..that way the vet can train him up….
I’m not saying Henne is dine here…but his contact is up next year…..if were not gonna play him….we should trade him and get some value…..

Kris-Palmer's packing a $15million a year contract with him too. Those numbers and his past body of work dont quite add up.
Im also sure Bengals would seek a #1 draft pick or at least 2 #2's. No way Palmer comes cheap and has a very hefty contract to boot. Dude has to come with a SB guarantee to be worth that price tag! LOL............
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 25, 2011 at 12:48 PM
kris, the owner said he will in no way even entertain trading Palmer (he said he's too important to their plans). So I guess Palmer either plays for Cincy or quits.

Henne will be here in 2011 guaranteed! He's probably the lowest paid starting qb in the league and this is the final year of his contract.
Teams will absolutely love that aspect should the Dolphins have to dangle him as trade bait next season. For now, being in the final year of his contract, that alone is enough for the Fins to keep him and give him a final shot this season.
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 25, 2011 at 12:54 PM
DB and DC....I know the possibilities are slim...but if Palmer is that desperate to get out of Cincy...he might be desperate to restructure his contract in to something more advantageous for both sides....all i'm saying is the lawyers and smart people need to examine this from all sides....and see what they can get done.....
If the plan is to send Henne to the bench next year in Favor of a Vet QB....then we still won't know if he can play...then he walks for nothing.....THAT IS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO....
If he's gonna go (henne)...he needs to go our way
Posted by: Kris | January 25, 2011 at 12:56 PM
I dont see Palmer retiring and turning his back on $15 million a year. Barring a Borg insemination Palmer will play for the Bengals next season.
Posted by: DyingBreed | January 25, 2011 at 12:57 PM
Thats what i'm saying DB..after 2011 he walks...for nothing....if we need to trade him while his value is highest....next year he walks.....
SO we either go all in on him and he starts...or he sits the bench and walks after 2011...and it will be yet ANOTHER player this regime lets go....for nothing
