PITTSBURGH -- Will I ever cover my own team in the AFC Championship game?
Please, someone answer me.
The Dolphins are not here. The comment i get most from writers from around the country covering this game is, "What the (bleep) is going on down there?"
My answer: "I do not know. I am not responsible."
I do know the Dolphins are not a total disaster. The Dolphins split two games with these Jets. The Dolphins lost by one point to Pittsburgh. They do not totally lack ability to compete.
Anyway, let's watch this game and see what team earns the right to play the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl. Let's see happens.
The live blog starts in the comments section below.

Chad Ochocinco changing his name back to Johnson. What an idiot! If I was his parents, I'd say you can't have the name back.
Same with Muhammed Ali, "your daddy named you Clay, so that's what I'm gonna call you, Clay!"

Good luck to you as well DC.....or take the day off
Posted by: Kris | January 25, 2011 at 04:53 PM
not sure you ever lived in dc kris, but I gotta get my car inspected tomorrow for emissions (taking a 1/2 day). There's only ONE station you can go to, I've waited in line for 3hrs. to get it. It SUCKS! Early am, weekends, forget about it. Better to get a 1/2 day and go when you only need to wait maybe 1 hr.

Anyway, thanks kris, hope we don't get clobbered. To the rest of you, enjoyed the talk today. Got lots of good info and histories. Hope Mando comes back from the brink tomorrow with more info. Or else we might all be heading to Omar Kelly's blog. Have a good night.

Let's see...things are going on down at the Senior Bowl in Mobile and the Dolphins are still hiring position coaches! But, Mando hasn't been heard from since last Sunday's game. Hmm...someone check Jason Taylor's butt and help pull the man out cause I think he's still stuck!!!
Posted by: Tracy474 | January 25, 2011 at 05:39 PM
I wish there was more than one blogger. Yes the seasons over, but nothin since the game? Please.
Also, I don't like the lack of interaction with the blogger. Mando doesn't have nearly enough live broadcasts as he should.

I think the Fins first round pick could be interesting.
My guess is that Jeff and Tony would prefer to take an O-line guy like Pouncey. I also think that they will be looking very hard to trade back and pick up a 2nd round pick...hoping they could land Pouncey or other interior help.
If Newton is still there at 15 it could get really interesting. Does Ross force the issue is my question? On the plus side for Newton...he would certainly create a buzz and give Ross his "big splash" he's looking for. He'd also probably put some butts in the seats. The guys a winner for sure and everything I've heard says he's a leader as well. Question is can he play QB in the NFL? Will the coaches let him do what he does best or do they try to force him into being something he's not? Will they just say "go win"..."we'll worry about your fundamentals as we go"...."just go win".
Personally, though the pick logically makes a lot of sense, I don't see them picking Ingram.

So with Ross's demand for a more aggressive, exciting offense and the hiring of Daboll, I'm trying to figure out what their new offensive philosophy is. I figured speed is one of them. Does anyone know what else?
Whatever philosophy they adopt will determine their draft, FA picks and who they'll retain.

Ike Hilliard hired as WR coach by Fins, like it

Jeff_Darlington Ireland on Henne: "He has all of the ability in the world. We have to put a plan together and an offensive philosophy that fits Chad Henne."

AdamSchefter RT @RapSheet: Made mistake of shaking hands w/ Oklahoma RB Demarco Murray. Dude almost broke my hand ... Must be Okla RB thing. AP's brutal.
about 7 hours ago Possible Pick?
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 25, 2011 at 07:45 PM
If Demarco falls to the 3rd rd he would be a great pick I also like Jaquizz Rodgers in the 3rd as well at RB
Posted by: beerphin | January 25, 2011 at 07:46 PM
Jeff_Darlington Ireland also noted that Miami will scour all available quarterback options, so don't take his comments to mean Henne won't have competition.

beerphin, my mistake, Hilliard will be an assistant. Still like the hire
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 25, 2011 at 07:50 PM
Worrisome, hiring coaches now with no experience. Just shows how few want to come to this organization now. I'll be once there is a new regime change the options will be much better.
Posted by: Orange | January 25, 2011 at 07:55 PM
Jeff Darlington has a whole article on Henne. The thing that bothered me was Jeff said the Dolphins are talking to Thigpen and Pennington about returning. Thigpen? Please NO, Pennington? Maybe as coach but as player? NO Much rather see Henne, a draft pick QB and FA Veteran in camp to battle it out, I have zero confidence in Thigpen and Pennington's has to much to overcome.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 25, 2011 at 07:59 PM
Orange, regime change isn't going to happen anytime in the near future, get over it
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 25, 2011 at 08:03 PM
I think the QB situation will come down to who is available at 15. If it is someone they like, they may go for it, but my guess is Ireland is already planning on trading down, going with Henne for another year and bringing back one of the two others. Sparano has been put in a 'win now or else' situation. Not likely they will bank the season with a rookie QB, and an argument can be made he might not want to bank the season on Henne. Will be interesting to see how they proceed.
Posted by: Orange | January 25, 2011 at 08:06 PM
Man, I didn't like that comment by Ireland of adjusting the offensive philosophy around Chad Henne's "strenghts". I hope he is just blowing smoke.
Posted by: oscar canosa | January 25, 2011 at 08:07 PM
Chads strengths are he can jo left handed with a condom on...not much you can do with that really.
Posted by: Pulange | January 25, 2011 at 08:11 PM
Orange, Dolphins will draft a QB somewhere, where, I have no clue, I think later rounds. They have to bring in a vet to push Henne and the franchise though. Pennington is a dink and dunk guy, can't see that. And Thigpen, I don't see him as a first string QB. Let's bring in fresh blood
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 25, 2011 at 08:12 PM
BobbyD12, Thigpen is, and would be better than Henne....Henne has been given more of a chance than Thigpen, and he has stepped up. He is more exciting and makes more things happen. Does anyone on this blog remember Jim Plunkett, considered a journeyman QB, kicked around the league, until he got to the Raiders and won 2 SuperBowls, and he is not in the Hall of Fame.....????? Thigpen should have a shot, so should Henne, but Penningtong's shoulder is toast, how long would he last?
Posted by: redsky | January 25, 2011 at 08:14 PM
Well, just going by Irelands comments that he is considering one of the two. Could it be all smoke screen? Absolutely. On the other hand I don't see them giving up picks or too much money for any of the veteran FA available. They have a dilemma. I say next year is going to be a lost year, and they need to play their cards for 2013.

Beat the Jets once, should have beat Pitt. If only our coach had balls....kick another FG please!
Posted by: rustyj | January 25, 2011 at 08:32 PM
Coach? What coach? Actions speak louder than words. Ross tried his best to get rid of Sparano and couldn't. Ireland accompanying him to find a replacement could not have helped his relationship with Sparano. That contract extension was just sugar coating the problem. Sparano has to reach and win a playoff game to keep his job...too much change going on right now...not so likely. Ross appears to like Ireland, so most likely a new coach after next season.

You guys should google STANLEY MYERS....you might be surprised at what you find

YOU CAN'T TRUST JEFF IRELAND LIKE YOU CAN'T TRUST YOUR MOTHER IN LAW .THE TALK ABOUT CHAD.P IS JUST CRAP TO FILL THE AIR WAVES,ROSS WOULD FIRE HIME ON THE SPOT IF HE GIVES ROSS'S MONEY TO CHAD.P.

KRIS,
THE DEER HUNTER IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE WITH INTEGRITY AND LOVE .
Posted by: ALoco | January 25, 2011 at 08:48 PM
Unless Dolphins have a disaster of a year in no way, shape or form do I believe Sparano is gone next year. As far as FA QB's go, there are enough on the unrestricted FA list that won't cost us anything but money.
Posted by: bobbyd12 | January 25, 2011 at 08:51 PM
NEVER TAKE THIS TALK BY TOP PEOPLE LIKE IRELAND AT FACE VALUE.THEY JUST PUMP THEIR GUY FOR A TRADE OR TO SIGN HIM AT LOW PRICE BY MAKING HIM FEEL GOOD .
Posted by: ALoco | January 25, 2011 at 08:56 PM
LAST WEEK MIKE DEE SAID THE SAME THING ABOUT HENNE .THIS WEEK IS JEFF IRELAND'S TURN.
I HOPE JEFF IS WORKING HARD TO LAND 2 NEW QB'S FOR THE DOLPHINS .
Posted by: ALoco | January 25, 2011 at 08:58 PM
redsky, sorry but Thigpen is not a starting QB, didn't see anything I liked in camp last year and nothing in the time he went in. He will run out of protection every chance he gets. He is a third string, backup QB and will never be anything else. 1-14 as a starter. If Thigpen was better then Henne he would have beat him in camp or sometime during the season. He didn't, he came in only when Henne was hurt. Forget Thigpen

I believe ANY free agent QB is better than we have now. And yes, Miachael Cimino did The Deer Hunter with a lot of feeling.
Posted by: oscar canosa | January 25, 2011 at 09:18 PM
greg z here said he went to all the preseason practices and Thigpen clearly out played Henne, that Henne was off the whole time. He said it appeared the FO elected Henne starter before the competition. I don't know, wasnt there, but greg has said that here a few times now, that Thiggy outplayed him in practice. Regardless, we have only 1 qb so we need 2 more.
