NFL Network insider Jason LaCanfora talks Dolphins on Armando and the Amigo (audio)

The topic foremost on everyone's mind with the Dolphins is the hiring of assistant coaches to be offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Everyone knows the chronicled candidates so far: Rob Chudzinski, Chris Palmer, John Garrett, and Saturday the Dolphins will reportedly interview Brad Childress.

I hate the idea of Childress, by the way.

Why? It doesn't make sense. It doesn't belong. It's not what the Dolphins seem built to do because it means instituting the West Coast offense to a team that doesn't have West Coast offense talent.

It would require finding a quarterback familiar with running the West Coach offense. It would require players in Miami taking a shine to Childress in a way players in Minnesota clearly didn't -- and doesn't coach Tony Sparano have enough issues convincing players about his own credibility to be thinking of also building up the credibility of a coordinator whose questionable reputation precedes him?

Simply, the Brad Childress candidacy does not seem logical to me.

I discussed this and many other Dolphins topics with NFL Network insider Jason LaCanfora on Armando and the Amigo Friday on 640-Sports here in South Florida. LaCanfora made the point, and very well, that we shouldn't really be talking about the next Miami quarterback until the coordinator is hired.

He also explained that the other candidates apparently in the hunt for this job come from a different philosophy and coaching tree than does Childress.

Listen to the interview. Or if you wish, you can tune into the show Monday through Friday between 6-10 a.m. on 640-AM in South Florida or streaming online here. LaCanfora, by the way, appears on my show every Thursday.

Another article about nothing. Can you tell that Mando is promoting his radio show over and over and over....kind of annoying considering many readers of his blog are not from Florida. Seriously what does this article give us? Mando doesn't like Chilly and La Canfora is on his show every Thursday. This is groundbreaking journalism folks.

I WILL NOW SEND MY VERY LIGHT FEATHER OF MEANINGLESS KNOWLEDGE INTO HIBERNATION UNTIL THE DRAFT AND FREE AGENCY BEGINS.

UNTIL THOSE 2 THINGS HAVE OCCURED THIS BLOG WILL BE TOTALLY MEANINGLESS AND CONJECTURELY IRRELEVANT. SEE YOU GUYS AFTER FREE AGENCY AND DRAFT DAY. YOU ALL WILL BE SPINNING YOUR TIRES IN DEEP SLIPPERY MUD UNTIL THEN.

MY NAME IS DYINGBREED AND I WILL SEE YOU GUYS AGAIN AROUND APRIL-ISH! LOL.............

Train Wreck......Take Four!!!!!

Great article.

Sparano is a moron and will be fired in 2011 when the season finally implodes.

He means well, but you cannot ask a ditch digger to perform open heart surgery. Unfortunately, Tony is not qualified to be a HC. For all his troubles and good fortunate, fist pump Tony will walk away with 9 million dollars and take the "obligatory" year off to spend Ross' money in 2011...LOL.

If you look at the schedule, it will be supremely harder than 2010. The Dolphins play the NFC East All of whom will be improved in 2011 and may be the best division in football. We may go 0-4 against them. NE and Jets will also be better. 1-5 in our division could be realistic. That is 1-9 not counting some very tough AFC games. No Cleveland's nor Detroits on the schedule. Even an improved Dolphin team will not necessarily be reflected in the w/l column. Not to mention, they will need to replace most of the offense in one offseason....new qb, new center, new guards, new rbs, new te....for a team that cannot get simple personnel decisions right. Good luck.

Lastly, Sparano's choice of interview candidates for OC should give a glimpse to his limited imagination and lack of credibility to field a winner. This team is doomed. I predict 6-10 for 2011 as a Dolphin fan for 20+ years. I did predict 7-9 for last year. I hate to be right and state the obvious.

D4D.....kinda lengthy on the post...but all in all I coudn't agree more....We have been messing it up for more than a decade......A mediocre QB made Jimmy Johnson look like he didn't know what he was doing...weird...cause with AIKMAN...he looked like the 2nd comming......

I understand there will be many differing opinions....but if you can look past the I GOTTA BE RIGHT...part.....you will see this FO has done it ALL OF THE WAYS YOU GUYS HAVE POSTED ABOUT.....

If we draft one again...and we get 50-60% of the production we did from Marino......we will have a shot every year......

Why do some on here insist on banging their collective heads against the wall....then ask why they have a headache....

Try something differnt....try something that has worked before....not only for your team but many others since.....

ITS THE QB..........

Another article for all the blowhards from NY to come here and pizz and moan and cry like the little biatches that they are. Aramando, you should consider closing down this blog earlier, like right after the season is over, so these out of state ass-holes and in state ass-holes such as crossdresser Marc have to find another outlet to cry on. God, nothing worse then some out of state moaner crying because he spent a couple hundred on DirecTV. If that state fell off the map one day, I certainly wouldnt shed one tear. NY NY Home of criminals, dirtbags and Democrats, which are really all the same.

Aloco.....or who which ever personality you want to be for the moment.....maybe you haven't seen my other post....I DON'T RESPOND TO IDIOTS ANYMORE.....

Talk to me about football...or don't address me......

So HAPPY NEW YEAR.....

What I think everyone needs to realize is that this is probably the worst offseason in recent history to try and rebuild an offense.
Start with the coordinator. Even if we wanted to dramtically change the style of offense we want to play. There will be almost no practice time to implement this plan. No OTA's, No Mini Camps, No Rookie Camp.
Next..Quarterback. I'm going out on a limb here and saying we need the quarterback play to improve or were going nowhere. There are a dozen or so teams looking to do the same. As much as we would like to snap our fingers and KABOOM..Our savior appears. There is absolutley no guarantee that we will find an upgrade to Henne. We can make out all the wish lists we want. But a lot of guys on the top of those lists are under contract, and in situations that their teams would be INSANE to trade them. We could go via the draft as well. But the odds that any of the quarterbacks coming out will be ready to play, and win week 1 are very slim.
Not to say that rebulding this offense cannot be done. It is going to take some very good player evaluation, and some luck. But just being rational, and looking ahead at all the possible obsticals. Don't be to shocked if our new coordinator is more similar to what we had in the past. Then what we all hope for in the future. Also don't be shocked if Chad Henne is the starting quarterback next year.

IF HENNE IS THE STARTER NEXT YEAR , IT MEANS HE'S THE BEST ON THE ROSTER .THAT'S ALL ,IF NOT ,STILL FINE W/ME .....WE ARE NOT IN LOVE WITH HIM PER SAY BUT LIFE IS SHORT .

DARRYL, TELL US WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR DINNER.YOU ALWAYS HAVE GOOD FOOD .

I have NO problem with the Dolphins interviewing Brad Childress. His style may not fit our offence and he may not be interested but the management needs to do their due dilligence in all areas. What happened between Childress and his team in Minnesota is irrelevant as it is with McDaniels in Denver. We're not bringing these guys in to run the show, we're bring them in to be signal-callers and playmakers. He's good at what he does and at this stage they need to ather information, regardless of what we think of these guys.

GRAIG, THE THING ABOUT CHILDRESS , HE'S GETTING PAID 3 MILLIONA YEAR FOR NEXT YEAR AND IF HIRED THE GETS HIS 3 MILLION MINUS THE DOLHINS SALARY ,SO I FEEL HE CAN LEAVE AT FIRST SIGN OF TROUBLE .

MACDANIEL LOOKS LIKE HE'S GOING TO BE THE MENTOR AND THE OC FOR SAM BRADFORD THE YOUNG NEW QB WHO JUST SIGNED A 65 MILLION CONTRACT .

P.S........NEXT YEAR AT THIS TIME WILL WE BE TALKING ABOUT 60 MILLION CONTRACT TO HENNE ???????

ALoco... Bone in Ribeyes, Potato Gratin, Arugula dressed in lemon and very good finishing olive oil... To drink 2001 Castellano Monticello Brunello. Very good wine. I also have a bottle of Fernet Branca to sip on after dinner to help settle my stomach..If you ever make it to Montana come eat at my restaraunt. I'll buy.

You don't think it would fit?? What are you talking about Mando? Sounds like you want the Offense we had last year... Boring and only going for field goals!!! West Coast Offense opens it up (were you listening to what Ross wanted on offense?) and can score points quickly, BUT MANDO HERE DOESN'T WANT THAT... Mando, you must be a Henning Fan!!! F'n Stupid!!!

Well, ain't I disappointed! Had hoped that there was something new in the air; like maybe a little insight as to our new OC. Instead, I get a commercial for a radio show that I can't get here in Alabama (and probably wouldn't listen to if I did live in Miami). And, some more of the same BS rhetoric that has been hacked to death ever since the season ended for the Fins! C'mon Mando! At least get off your keyster tomorrow and report about the Childress interview, ok? Then, you can go back to eating your Slim Jims, or Fritos, or Tater logs, or whatever it is that you do when you're not on the radio or re-hashing someone else's blog here! Jeesh!

DARRYL, READING YOUR POST MADE ME FEEL HAPPY,EVERY TIME I READ ABOUT REAL GOOD FOOD IT MAKES ME HAPPY , BETTER THAN THIS CRAP ......HENNE OR NO HENNE ?

the future millionare .................. chad henne

ALoco...Thank you. Enjoy your evening.

What kind of talent do you need to run the west coast offense? I don't no a whole lot. But I do know that Ronnie dances around alot. And Marshall fits that offense just fine. Other than Henne, please explain why Miami's players don't fit that mould.

Does anyone realize that the Vikings offense was ranked only one place higher then the Dolphins this year in total points? Dolphins total points 273. Vikings 281 points ranked 30th and 29th Do we really want anyone from that poor of an offense trying to make the Dolphins into an offensive scoring machine. Think real hard guys.

If Henne is the starter next year then it will be Tony's last year as a fins coach and it probably should be what we saw the last month or so was terrible offense display and it was not all the OC's fault , Chad had the ball in his hands , and if you notice he goes down real easy when there is pressure on him maybe he should watch Big Ben play, he sucks lets face it and move on!

IMO. Mariucci is a better hire.

Half the time Ronnie looks like he's doin the Icky Shuffle. I think thats why he does so well in the wildcat.

Childress also built his reputation as the offensive coordinator of the Eagles while Andy Reid was probably calling most of the shots.

It’s the economy stupid!!! Oh... Sorry guys... wrong blog…

IT’S THE QB STUPID!!!!

THIS team must and I say MUST draft a solid QB for starters. Sure, we can also trade also BUT we MUST draft a QB in the first round. If not this draft, the next one.

Every winning team needs a general and we currently do not have one.. in fact, we haven’t had one since Dan retired as our last General.

I’m tired of all the yapping that we need this and we need that.. The search must concentrate on identifying that General and once identified DRAFT him!

Ireland and Sparano should have been fired IMO.

In closing… I already know what’s ahead with this coach and GM… The GM will NOT draft any QB in the first round unless of course they think he’s another Pat White.

This next season will be the same or even worse and I have zero idea why Ross does not see that the Tuna placed his fat belly over his eyes just as he has done to the Jets, the Pats and the Boys. He can now add the Fins to his accomplishments which add up to ZERO RINGS.

Other guy was right earlier, NY, nothing but Greaseball Italian mobster wannabes and fried rice eating Puerto Ricans. And they all have the same thing in common. Not one speaks the fookin English language

(( the day the earth stood still )) the movie is on amc

Is there an "impact" player at 15? Many people feel that Sporano's extension was an appeasement,so I think that our pick will truly be indicative of that. If we take a developmental QB, then the coach's writing is on the wall. We only take a QB there to replace Henne, not to compete with him!

Did Ireland throw Sparano under the bus? Does an OC look at this circus and say, "hell, yeah"? Just looking like a recipe for a top 5 pick in 2012...

I think we should draft a FG Kicker at #15, hell all we do is kick FG's anyway...oh and draft the best holder and long snapper, were gonna need em!

Wow, this blog has gone completely to you know where in a hand bag...........
it's going to be a long off season.

Please pass the red wine ALoco. Enough red wine and everything will be fine. Maybe a little of Ricky's weed too.

how much can we talk football ?

we need a rest from football talk,we need red wine .

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I will take it if Alaco isn't Bogartin it.

Who is Bogart anyway?

G @ 8:46...great post....but I gotta ask.....why are you stealing my line...get your own quote....lol

Man....1 guy post about he is LEAVING the blog....now all these new names and letters show up as sign in names......and to top it all off......we put him to sleep......

Poor guy....being forced to read and type in this blog.....poor...poor guy

evyrone forgets that belichik was nothing before tom brady, any coach can look like a genius with a good qb. its not the coach, its not the gm, not the oc, ITS THE DAMN QB, and until we dont have one, we will keep on mediocre

O-line and QB. Period. That is all. Everything else is okay to good. Fix the first two, the running game is alive and our receivers get balls that can actually be caught. NO tsaying we couldn't use an RB and a signature corner, safety, OLB but the O-line and QB are the worst problems (like I'm saying anything new here)

Long is darned good if he can recover from the shoulder problem. Should not have played out the year. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Shame on the coaches for keeping him active when it was obvious we were done.

LG is a serious problem right now. Incognito looks like he is the best center on the team. Could be upgraded though.

RT is solved by sliding Carey over. RT is a glaring issue.

So, at minimum, an LG and an RT.

QB... depends on the OC's philosophy. The right one is not on the roster (Duh). Saw ESPNs highlights of Newton and the kid can flat out play. But can he do it under center. He feels the rush and, unlike Henne, has a nice little step up to get away from it. Accuracy seems like it could use some work but he has touch and can sling it. I liked what I saw but I know it was a highlight reel and that he is grossly under-experienced. Still, if he is available and fits the new OC's system, I can see him as a good first round pick. He sure is exciting to watch and has one heck of a great attitude.

Oops. Meant RG is solved by moving Carey over.

Resign thigpen sign jocby Jones for a down field threat a new innovative oc not childress

Marshall, Bess, Hartline and Fasano could be WCO receivers. Henne is not as a QB- Big Deal. What are talking about?

Every take from December on I have disagreed with you about.

No thanks Chilly.
Take your tired old retread "dog and pony" show somewhere else.
Dolphins need a young energetic and creative mind at the OC position.

TO 'THE ARTIST FORMALLY KNOW AS.."

***OOO[{(||||)}]OOO***

Solid Point.

...and it will take more time to install a
'Full Blown West Coast Offense' than Tony Sparano has.

They'll have to design some sort of INNOVATIVE HYBRID of the West Coast.

THAT'S what "young energetic and creative" is all about!

If they succeed, then everybody gets to stay!

I love Cher so much. She keeps herself in good shape and her fashion sense is still fabulous.

I wish the Dolphins had maintained themselves as well as Cher has since her OWN glory days in the 70's.

The Dolphins were Cher once. Unlike Cher, we have lost our identity.

Hopefully the owners and players union gets a clue and hits the negotiations turbo... No NFL will suck next year if not.

DC Nolan did a great job of moving the DEF from 20+ to 6th overall vs yards. DEF is fairly stout but I would not hesitate to snap up a DEF player the caliber of Von Miller for more enenmy QB pressure. He will be gone by 15 imho.

I hope they do bring a serious OFF mind into the OC position. I wouldn't mind of they delved into the college ranks of they thought the brain and pedigree was their. Someone mentioned Mike Leach. While his TT OFF was good it is too extreme to make it in the NFL imho. He is just the kind of creative mind you would be looking for in an OC.

My early draft 2011 would go:

Stay at 15 and grab either OLB Von Miller or C Stefan Wesinewski. Both are studs...I would prefer Miller at 15 but he will be gone.

(If possible) Slide back and pick up some decent picks maybe our 2nd back. I would take C Mike Pouncey with this pick.

The 2nd rounder I use on WR Jerrel Jernigan. A 60 yard screen pass waiting to happen. He is a big play, 4.3 forty, ready to make explosive plays. He's small but has crazy movement skills. He did will find a niche on Special Teams returning punts and @ WR.

3rd rounder. I would add RB Noel Divine. This would give us two 4.3 speed, shifty, crafty, big play players. Both are super fast and good football players that understand spacing and setting up moves and blocks.

Devine may not make it to the 3rd round. The copy cat NFL hurts that chance due to his world class speed.

4rth round QB Colin Kaepernick. Height 6'6, 225lbs, forty times in the 4.4 range. Seems to have nice touch and accuracy while on the move. Can avoid the rush and buy time. He had 58.9% completion percentage in 2009 and 65.3% in 2010. He had 40 TD's and 13 INTs in that two year span. Nice groomer QB.

5th round FB Charles Clay. An athletic, big FB that can run. Will help Miami stay a bruising running team when Ricky is gone.

6th round TE Schuylar Oordt. He is a project of sorts but has nice updside potential:
4.57 40 time, 6'7" tall, decent hands that grabbed an 18.2 Yards per catch average.

7th round BPA. Get the most atheletic player you can find.

This would add as much speed and big play ability as one draft could get away with.

My FA Would be QB Kyle Orton, QB Vince Young or QB Matt Flynn. This means Henne has SERIOUS comp that he has to beat out or he watches from the bench. I think he would get beat out.

Cheers,
